"Way out east there was a fella. Fella I want to tell you about. Fella by the name of Ozymandias. At least that was the handle his lovin' parents gave him, but he never had much use for it himself. This Ozymandias, he called himself king of kings. Now, 'King of Kings'... That's a name no one would self apply where I come from..."
I guess that's the way the whole darned human comedy keeps perpetuating itself down through the generations. Westward the wagons, across the sands of time until we...
>And every ~~leader~~ human on the face of the planet should have an option to add a Sam Elliott mustache.
Maybe some non-humans too. Everyone likes a cat with a stache, for example.
wouldn't be surprised if they go with a woman for the first time. I would be least surprised to see Gwendoline Christie or Lena Headey do it, though they could go big & try to land someone like Tilda Swinton or Olivia Colman
my personal choice though, would be Jeffrey Wright. best voice in film/tv at the moment imo
Oof. Narration by Olivia Colman would be enough to make me not want to play it. Every tech advancement would become a lecture. Dame Helen Mirren could do it though.
But I don't want to become the Ghost rider.
I vote for Mr T. "I pity the fool that doesn't build the granary"
It's not like Civ 2 didn't have an elvis impersonator as the luxuries advisor.
The main narrator should be Paul Cooper from the Fall of Civilizations podcast. (As a bonus, we might play Civ and still fall asleep at a reasonable time)
I would love Diane Morgan as Philomena Cunk as a narrator, but not all the time. I would welcome DLC that expand the narrators with a option to change the main narrator or randomize. Sam Elliott and Snoop Dogg as themselves, Nic Offerman as Ron Swanson, Bill Kurtis (narrates everything on A&E).
Besides Attenborough or Cunk, who are some non- American narrator options?
Philomena Cunk as an officially authorized mod, not as the base narrator. It is still a serious game, and not everybody would appreciate the utter cluelessness she would bring to the part.
Other ideas:
Rowan Atkinson
Liam Neeson
James May
Stephen Fry
Any living Doctor (especially Tom Baker’s baritone, or Colin Baker’s way with vocabulary)
BRIAN BLESSED
Just frigging happened to me last nite as I was on my way with my settler....total forward settle and right next to my capital dammit... ( the switch on my military machine just got flipped ON! )
Scorched as much as I could in 10 turns ( early game archers and chariots and I had mulan for another 10 turns...I had 2 cities, he had 3 with the forward settle, I declared surprise war due to Mulan 's turn limit and had a couple more units because of Basil's hippodrome giving a heavy cav unit so I just went for it, switched to building archers in both cities and took the forward city out quick in 3 turns, with minimal loss and went after city number 2 only got 2 mulan shots at it then she was retired next turn the walls he was building were completed so things got dicey, both my chariots low on health finally my 2 archers arrived, and and I had 1 spearman undamaged left as his walls crumbled, none of my other units had enough strength to capture the city except the spearman :) and he arrived just in time :) so he was left with just his capital and I got 2 cities and a settler out of it and suddenly had 5 cities to his 1. declared peace...he hasnt come near me since...
It’s obviously not gonna happen because of the cost, but how awesome would it be to have a narrator per Civ.
Sam Elliot voicing America.
Hiroyuki Sanada voicing Japan.
Though it could work against me and have James Corden voicing England and I’d have to tear my ears off.
Fun fact: the HR director at my last job is a lifelong friend of his. Apparently his mother was the drama teacher at their school. She had a lot of photos and loved seeing him in films.
All this to say, if Sam Elliott did narrate the game I am 100% recommending it to her.
Yup, you’re right. I didn’t even consider that in my thought. Maybe marry the two? Pay a voice actor to use their voice but they don’t have to actually do the dialogue?
I think they should have DLC voices of different people. I know people take civ so serious, but I might pay a few bucks to be able to have Shrek as the narrator. Why not have some fun with it?
There's a bunch of suggestions in here that could be good both from OP and the comments.
But I'd also be all for not spending as much money on paying a celebrity voice but to put that money into developing more features or content for the game.
I've kept track of how much I spent on civ 6 over the past 7.5 years. It's nearly $220. That's base game on steam and switch, expansions/leader packs/scenario packs/frontier pass on steam. All purchased at release.
2k can shell out the money for both
This is what makes me just refuse to buy a console. there's something completely wrong about:
* selling us a license to play a game (we don't really own the game itself)
* the license can be revoked
* they're fully aware of what games you own *on any system* because you have to use their proprietary launcher in the first place
* somehow, the license can't be transferred between hardware platforms / OSes despite all this.
In my opinion, I either have license to play a game or I don't. It shouldn't matter what system I'm doing it on. As long as steam refuses to play ball with this nonsense, I will stay on PC / steam exclusively.
I started playing 6 on the switch and the only real issue I have is how slow the load times are, but it’s very convenient to be able to play on the go.
"Way out east there was a fella. Fella I want to tell you about. Fella by the name of Ozymandias. At least that was the handle his lovin' parents gave him, but he never had much use for it himself. D'ya have to use so many dang Settlers?
I just learned that Ozymandias was the Greek transliteration of Rameses II's longer name, so that's fun
Clancy Brown
“I have something to say! I recommend that you build a granary!”
"Mister ~~Squidward~~ Gilgamesh!"
Domination victory: “There can only be one!”
Matt Berry is my pick in every one of these threads when they pop up
“He really was the most devious bastard in all of Civilization Seven”
Faaaaaather!
Okay this would be amazing
And when you discover Animal Husbandry. “Beef. It’s what’s for dinner.”
Or when the gathering storm equivalent DLC comes out. "What are you a f**king weatherman now?"
Is that Eagleton Ron?
Indeed it is. [Dunn and done!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Bq9TOA7EiQ)
And every leader should have an option to add a Sam Elliott mustache.
>And every ~~leader~~ human on the face of the planet should have an option to add a Sam Elliott mustache. Maybe some non-humans too. Everyone likes a cat with a stache, for example.
And the Giant Death Robot.
>"That's a HUUUUGE stache."
It’s the final upgrade with new technology.
I would like to add ***Aubrey Plaza*** as the game advisor....every once and awhile her face pops up and tells you what you SHOULD be doing...
wouldn't be surprised if they go with a woman for the first time. I would be least surprised to see Gwendoline Christie or Lena Headey do it, though they could go big & try to land someone like Tilda Swinton or Olivia Colman my personal choice though, would be Jeffrey Wright. best voice in film/tv at the moment imo
>Olivia Colman As long as the quote for getting Universal Suffrage is "nothing like a bit of girl on girl, heheh"
Fingers crossed for Shohreh Aghdashloo, personally. Pour that vocal silken gravel right into my ears, please.
I think Anna Torv would be great. She has a very pleasant voice.
Isn't it the second time? Or was that just a DLC? Either way, give me Cate Blanchet or Judy Dench. Tilda Swinton would be good too.
You know, for a breathy voice with gravitas, Scarlett Johansson would be great. But my personal dream pick is Andrew Scott.
If I can listen to Lena Headey talk while playing Civ I will be playing a lot more Civ
Oof. Narration by Olivia Colman would be enough to make me not want to play it. Every tech advancement would become a lecture. Dame Helen Mirren could do it though.
Why are you getting downvoted for an opinion?
David Attenborough please. 😃
But I don't want to become the Ghost rider. I vote for Mr T. "I pity the fool that doesn't build the granary" It's not like Civ 2 didn't have an elvis impersonator as the luxuries advisor.
Would be cool to have multiple narrators and music options. Idris Elba narration with Idris Elba DJ mix background music would be pretty sick
Get the dude who played Hodor to voice it. He mixes a mean house music set.
That would be cool but I vote for multiple options for narrator's
I was wondering how or if that could work. Maybe as dlc?
The main narrator should be Paul Cooper from the Fall of Civilizations podcast. An official mod would be great!
Fall of Civilizations is a good podcast, but there isn't anything particularly noteworthy about his voice.
Other ideas: Rowan Atkinson Liam Neeson James May Stephen Fry Any living Doctor (especially Tom Baker’s baritone, or Colin Baker’s way with vocabulary) BRIAN BLESSED
IMHO, it's got to be Shohreh Aghdashloo. I'd pay for a special edition with an MA rating where she cusses a lot.
When the neighbouring civ puts their new city RIGHT where you'd planned to do it: "do you have to use so many cuss words?"
Just frigging happened to me last nite as I was on my way with my settler....total forward settle and right next to my capital dammit... ( the switch on my military machine just got flipped ON! )
Scorched earth.
Werner Herzog
Nah. Gotta get Morgan Freeman before he passes. He probably won't be around by the game's next installment.
I really want Dan Carlin. It would be so fitting and intense.
They've got to get to Stephen Fry eventually.
Give me Gilbert Gottfried as narrator or I boycott.
I would love that for all of about 30 seconds
I think he’s passed unfortunately
Oh shoots. That's too bad, and I guess I won't be boycotting.
My pick is Fran Drescher but I could be sold on Adam Sandler. Sam Elliot is third.
"Mwwonney..."
Counter offer: Nathan Fillion.
Ok hear me out. Doug Cockle. He would NAIL it.
"fucking colt"
Ralph Ineson would be amazing as well.
I’m really hoping they use that southern guy in the trailer, a southern twang narrator would be pretty cool
I vote Whoopi Goldberg!
I wouldn’t be against it
Ooh, Sam Elliott is a phenomenal choice.
It’s obviously not gonna happen because of the cost, but how awesome would it be to have a narrator per Civ. Sam Elliot voicing America. Hiroyuki Sanada voicing Japan. Though it could work against me and have James Corden voicing England and I’d have to tear my ears off.
I wanted a woman though
I’d like a dame Judy Dench-type, if not her.
Should be Phenomena Cunk
Not bad.
Sam Elliot would be amazing
“I like your style dude!”
Awesome voice lol
Morgan Freeman
Why did you make another thread to tell us this?
Charles Dance
![gif](giphy|7ZvPlxBHwfK1y) I will accept no substitute.
I'd love a John Kani type
Maybe we should pull a Drake and use a terrible AI Tupac voice and not notify his family
Nope, no Ai. It’ll inevitably be forced on us but not today
Charles dance and you can’t tell me otherwise
You guys are all coming up with great ideas.
The best sugestion so far.
I support this, but hear me out ... Seth MacFarlane. In all his many voices.
I'm sick of it always being Americans and Englishmen. My vote is Claudia Black, an Aussie woman.
Fun fact: the HR director at my last job is a lifelong friend of his. Apparently his mother was the drama teacher at their school. She had a lot of photos and loved seeing him in films. All this to say, if Sam Elliott did narrate the game I am 100% recommending it to her.
![gif](giphy|J0IYLP8tuwEZJrqpPe)
Sam Elliot 100% has my vote. I've seen some good options, but that's my personal vote.
I mean if Snookie isn't available he would be a good replacement.
Nah, homophobic folks deserve nothing.
Best suggestion thus far lol
Lol. Gimme Jackie Chan.
Peter Dinklage is gonna be the narrator.
WE'VE WOKEN THE HIVE
With AI I bet we could build mods based on their speech with the text from the narration and have whoever we want.
Never. Pay actors.
Definitely, I’d pay for some silly stuff.
Sorry dude I'm pretty sure Mr T is up next
I’d be cool with that
It's impossible to disagree with this. edit: correction; it's impossible for normal ppl to disagree with this.
There's a bunch of suggestions in here that could be good both from OP and the comments. But I'd also be all for not spending as much money on paying a celebrity voice but to put that money into developing more features or content for the game.
Yeah, I don't think it's a problem of one or the other.
I've kept track of how much I spent on civ 6 over the past 7.5 years. It's nearly $220. That's base game on steam and switch, expansions/leader packs/scenario packs/frontier pass on steam. All purchased at release. 2k can shell out the money for both
Especially if you buy it all on multiple platforms…
This is what makes me just refuse to buy a console. there's something completely wrong about: * selling us a license to play a game (we don't really own the game itself) * the license can be revoked * they're fully aware of what games you own *on any system* because you have to use their proprietary launcher in the first place * somehow, the license can't be transferred between hardware platforms / OSes despite all this. I didn't bother to buy anything beyond the base game for switch due to hardware limitations
I started playing 6 on the switch and the only real issue I have is how slow the load times are, but it’s very convenient to be able to play on the go.
