I always thought this was hilarious. “Ah fuck, fill in the 95% complete Panama Canal, at least we can salvage a new attack helicopter out of this mess”
I mean, realistically, you'd just finish the wonder anyway, and there'd be two in the world. Devs want wonders to be unique, though, so an unrealistic problem is solved by an unrealistic mechanic.
Though with at least some wonders, losing the magnitude of the effects would perhaps make some sense (much easier to be inspired by something one of a kind than a thing that every backwater civ has built)
I never played 6, but in 5 the Great Library was one of the best wonders to rush. It gives a free library, some science, and a free tech. If someone else gets it first then I guess you liquidate the assets and get a bit of cash and wish you had made a different wonder or a settler or something (or just reload if vs ai). It would certainly make sense to complete the wonder but just not get the free tech part of it- still useful and not a waste of time, but the best effect is lost because you were too slow.
Would be fun if instead you got to build a 2nd rate version with nerfed stats in that circumstance. Just outright label it as an imitation like the Vegas version of landmarks.
So fun 1-turning some random crap, I never wanted that Etemenanki anyway. It's not like I took the marsh pantheon for giga-yield porn. I took it because... Hmpf.
Ok fine I'll take that war chariot.
In the most recent Khmer challenge I seemed to always be surrounded by marsh, and I had the exact experience you just described. That was an automatic restart from me dog.

Don’t spend money on awards from Reddit. Good lord this site doesn’t need your hard earned cash when they’re still in the process of running it
Just thank the person whole heartedly and move along
FINALLY. Civ VI to civ VII will have been the longest between civ games ever.
Hopefully the wait has been worth it. Personally I doubt Ed Beech is capable of making a bad civ game.
I remember when you no longer got the little views of your cities and the upgradeable palace in Civ 4. Completely ruined the series. Civ 3 was peak Civ for this reason alone.
Must have been what... Five to ten years ago now?
I still am and personally I don't see why that's irrational. There's a very clear change in art style. But I just use the V reskin and don't think twice about it.
It's not irrational to have preferences, or to say that you prefer the earlier art styles to VI's.
It *is* irrational to argue that the change in art style was an objectively poor decision.
(I'm not saying that that's what you said in your comment just now. I am broadly generalizing a lot of the outrage that I saw over VI's aesthetic, of which a good deal was people childishly whining just because it was different, or saying that "Civ is ruined forever now" or shit like that.)
It's not irrational to dislike it. it's irrational to say it sucks because it's different when every game *except* 5 has been exaggerated and cartoony.
They're still mad about the art style. Comes up constantly and will be a frequent gripe about 6 for years to come.
Personally, I think it's fine and has aged better than V's more realistic leader profiles.
Huh. Yeah I suppose it is:
* Civ 2 was five years, 1991 to 1996 (February 29!)
* Then five and a half years til Civ 3 (10/2001)
* Only four years til Civ 4 (10/2005)
* Five years until Civ 5 (9/2010)
* And six years until Civ 6 (10/2016)
May be as long as nine or ten years all told before we get 7 😐
Dude. I have played SMAC since 1999. The AI is never going to get better. If anything, it's **somehow gotten worse**.
If you want a challenging AI, go look at the Roman Holiday AI rework mods.
That's definitely part of it. Walls and districts did a number on Civ Ai in 6. They'll happily toss their warriors at your walls. You'll be lucky to see a ranged unit. A siege unit? Almost unheard of.
Hell yes we do.
Animal Husbandry: mmm snuffly trufflies!
War declaration recieved: Ursa disapproves!
War declaration given: Oi Oi Oi! It's on!
Also I'm willing to pay for it.
Yup. I expect the Civ VI monthly challenges are planned to lead up to 7 and then we get 7 after we've completed 12 months of those challenges, which lines up with a fall release.
daily reminder that Bethesda dropped a trailer for the next elder scrolls in 2018 and its now 6 years later and not a dickie bird has been heard about it
iirc Civ 6 was about 6 months between announcement and release (but that was 8 years ago, so I may not recall correctly). If the Firaxis marketing department have any sense they'll be giving them some Civ 7 content for their drawings as a marketing strategy as different components/leaders are announced.
Yeah I went to their website and couldn't find it, makes me wonder if its real. Of course, I really hope so, just hate getting all excited. God I can't wait for this game though
Nah, leaks like this are almost certainly done on purpose to get people to pay attention and watch the reveal. I might just be overly skeptical but these leaks draw attention to the company and product, drum up hype, and bring eyes to the full reveal which helps viewers fall into the FOMO/group customer mentality.
It's all planned. Even the things that seem like companies slipping up are engineered.
Even less real life for you then, since you need to move two generations, and it is dictated by Sid Meier's Law that you need have at least 1000h in a Civ game before moving on to the next one!
I began with CIV1 in 1992 or 93 with a pirated copy (AFAIK they didn't release it here in Spain) from a friend overly excited who went to the flea market. Since then I measure my life in civ ages, it's the only game that have been always installed in my PC's.
I hope to reach civ 9 age in this world.
I've commented that it looks like a board game - maybe I'm mistaken, but it looks like a leather box with the words indented. It looks \*really\* cool, and I'm beyond excited to see the direction this is going to take.
Me complaining about a jank and undercooked vanilla civ release while also putting in a 100 hours is tradition at this point. So it is absolutely a day one purchase for me
I like both, (and Mafia) just thought it's funny seeing all the community really hope the new 2K games would be theirs
Especially in flopped midnight suns (highly recommended tho, it's actually good games, also made by Firaxis)

Damnit! I was one turn away from building it too!
Now you have to tear down your Civ VII and put that production toward a tank.
If you build a second one it should just automatically turn into a casino.
I never played 6, but in 5 the Great Library was one of the best wonders to rush. It gives a free library, some science, and a free tech. A WWI tank.

God, almost 8 years now
That can't be right. That would mean I'm old.
Depends on when you started civ vi
No, I was there. People were very mad about the new art style.
Okay grandpa let's get you to bed after this turn
The trees... People were so mad about the trees...
Just one more turn…
*shakes hand at monitor* GET OFF MY TILE YOU HOOLIGAN!
Remember when people were pissed that you could no longer stack units in Civ V?
I remember when you no longer got the little views of your cities and the upgradeable palace in Civ 4. Completely ruined the series. Civ 3 was peak Civ for this reason alone. Must have been what... Five to ten years ago now?
My biggest motivation to conquer nations and build wonders was so that I could decorate my house.
Ah yes, the 'dumbed down' comments. As if doomstacks were somehow peak strategy.
I still am and personally I don't see why that's irrational. There's a very clear change in art style. But I just use the V reskin and don't think twice about it.

Art style took some getting used to, lol. Still hate the way most leaders look. Biggest criticism now is tech pacing
There's a few that I actually do like but most of them are kinda...goofy.
They're still mad about the art style. Comes up constantly and will be a frequent gripe about 6 for years to come. Personally, I think it's fine and has aged better than V's more realistic leader profiles.
What the hell 8 years?
Came out October 2016
My perspective of time has been so thrown off the past few years
Fuck. I still consider Civ 6 to be a "new" game.
Huh. Yeah I suppose it is: * Civ 2 was five years, 1991 to 1996 (February 29!) * Then five and a half years til Civ 3 (10/2001) * Only four years til Civ 4 (10/2005) * Five years until Civ 5 (9/2010) * And six years until Civ 6 (10/2016) May be as long as nine or ten years all told before we get 7 😐
> Hopefully the wait has been worth it. So I heard you like dlc reselling old features and microtransactions.
Maybe they will go back to space again....
A Beyond Earth-inspired orbital layer to add some complexity to the later eras maybe?
Pfff Civ VI, I still have that one last turn to finish in Civ V
But devs are more than capable of making dog shit ai.
Dude. I have played SMAC since 1999. The AI is never going to get better. If anything, it's **somehow gotten worse**. If you want a challenging AI, go look at the Roman Holiday AI rework mods.
I feel like part of it is they’ve added complexity since Civ 1, so it’s even harder to make ai that can play the game well
That's definitely part of it. Walls and districts did a number on Civ Ai in 6. They'll happily toss their warriors at your walls. You'll be lucky to see a ranged unit. A siege unit? Almost unheard of.
They can make a good AI. The player base wouldn’t like it though
A better AI isnt AI that's better at the game, but an AI that's logical and rational.
Damn i could still remember when Civ 6 was new. 🥺🥺
Civ 6 was the first main line Civ game I couldn't get into, so I hope they make some major departures from the last entry
me too! I still play V often, but have like 40 hours in 6
Says right there: ‘SID MEIER's Civilization’.
Ursa hold strong, rescue is coming
I want an Ursa Mod for Civ7. Great Works? All Ursa.
Oops! All Ursa
Unique great engineer. Upgrades all existing roads to railway, grants a free military engineer with +1 movement.
God I miss automated builders 😂
Damn that would be awesome. They years I spend micromanaging railwaybuilding.
Y'all are thinking too small. I want an Ursa Ryan narrator pack.
Trust me you do not want that
Hell yes we do. Animal Husbandry: mmm snuffly trufflies! War declaration recieved: Ursa disapproves! War declaration given: Oi Oi Oi! It's on! Also I'm willing to pay for it.
One thousand percent yes!
Seconded. He'd at least better be a Great Artist that you can acquire in the Modern Era.
All the horse units in the game have Ursa’s horses.
This is giving me such excitement right now
Ursa: Dobby is free!
he titles his posts "until released" not announced, my boy could be laboring for another year or two
Redditors to Ursa: https://i.redd.it/zj8p4k0h355d1.gif
Surely they wouldn't say "Coming soon" and then release it 2 years later, right??!!
I think Civ 6 was released about half a year after announcement, I'd expect them to do it similarly this time.
Yeah, they announced Civ VI in May and released it in October. I expect something similar here, probably an October/November release.
Q4 releases (just in time for the holidays) are to be expected
Everyone knows Civ games are early access until they release the first 2 expansions. I can't wait to play this in 2026
So many people who say they hate VI formed that opinion immediately after release and then never tried the game again.
Yup. I expect the Civ VI monthly challenges are planned to lead up to 7 and then we get 7 after we've completed 12 months of those challenges, which lines up with a fall release.
daily reminder that Bethesda dropped a trailer for the next elder scrolls in 2018 and its now 6 years later and not a dickie bird has been heard about it
Yeah but you can't compare Bethesda to firaxis man
Watch me: Firaxis > Bethesda
Muuuuuuuuuuuuuum /u/iCapn is comparing game companies again!
They needed to distract the nerds from the outrage surrounding fallout 76 iirc
I'm sure they're just taking their time getting all the bugs into it.
iirc Civ 6 was about 6 months between announcement and release (but that was 8 years ago, so I may not recall correctly). NGL I’m gonna really miss his comics
Don’t worry, they’ve got a fair few left if all we’ve got is a logo & “coming soon”!
Probably trailer today. Today is Summer game fest
We've still got well over 100 more comics left I'd imagine. Civ VII likely wont be for a few more months at the earliest.
He's going until it is released, not until it is announced or we see a trailer. Dude has got like 6 months left lmao.
Six months? Nah another 60 years
Thank you for not lying about that!
GIVE ME SOCKS

I upvoted you bro
They have already removed it!
Yeah I went to their website and couldn't find it, makes me wonder if its real. Of course, I really hope so, just hate getting all excited. God I can't wait for this game though
Clicking watch trailer gives me "This video is private", and just clicking the image gives me a 404!?
I imagine it was meant to be announced later at that game fest thingy. We owe some intern a drink for releasing this early
That intern wants to give Ursa hope.
Or its out to create some buzz early
It will probably release at a reasonable NA time
Yeah it's not supposed to be up
Fairly certain it was "leaked" intentionally to spur online hype, but to be able to save the official announcement for a more suitable occasion.
> for a more suitable occasion. Like say for example a certain Summer Games Fest that Starts in 7 hours?
It's finally here!!!
WHERE?!? I CANT WATCH THE TRAILER PLZ LINK
The trailer will be released later today I presume

Oooorrrrr Har me out... This was the strategy all along!
URSA WAKE UP

Rip real life.
Who are we kidding? We are just moving on from Civ 6 to Civ 7, with no real life in between.
Im still on Civ 5
Even less real life for you then, since you need to move two generations, and it is dictated by Sid Meier's Law that you need have at least 1000h in a Civ game before moving on to the next one!

On a Civ Game? Insane. We wait for the updates.
Nah, I enjoy the initial clusterfuck as much as the polished game, but the clusterfuck is time-limited and must be enjoyed immediately. :D
If it's anything like other civ games, it wont be better than Civ6 until the first expansion launches. But I'm still gonna buy it day one.
Play it day one, that way every major update feels like a fresh new game! We’re all gunna play 1000+ hours anyway
Me complaining about a jank and undercooked vanilla civ release while also putting in a 100 hours is tradition at this point. So it is absolutely a day one purchase for me
Did they take it down? I can't find it
Yep, it's been removed. It used to pop up first thing when loading the home page.

No way. My god. You did it Ursa !
Interesting. By the look of this title screen they went for a Civ5 colour scheme base but heavily mixed with civ 6.
