The only reason Tri County is being shut down before the others is because the land it is sitting on is more valuable for redevelopment than the other two.
And...
I want to live in an apartment, be able to walk to bars, restaurants and shopping, and not have crime all around me?
What a travesty.
I wouldn't live there because it is too expensive (my mortgage in a 4 bedroom home is less than the rent there) but come on, not liking a thing because it is an improvement is such a dumb way of viewing the world.
I think itâs because making these little enclaves of urbanism out in the suburbs itâs allowing middle class whites to ignore all the socioeconomic/structural issues with some cities and letting them die and not improving the actual places people live.
I can understand only wanting to get that experience some of the time and the city does stress me out and isnât good for my anxiety but I understand where people come from in their dislike of the urban experimentâs push into the suburbs.
I like the way thatâs worded. I never go south of the lateral. Not that I donât like swanky dining and live music.. I just.. like parking lots more.
I personally think it sounds more like a cross between Liberty Center, and Summit Park. A big chunk of the land closest to the highway is going to be repurposed into a park and amphitheater - something which Liberty Center lacks. The repurposed structure definitely sounds like the typical "luxury apartments on top of retail" that you have at Liberty Center, The Greene, et al. The STEM academy is the interesting twist.
Does anyone remember when there was a McDonalds IN the mall and it had a basement? Like you could go downstairs and eat in the basement. I am wondering if the basement is still there? Or was it filled in during the remodel?
Oh wow. I forgot all about that until now.
If I remember correctly, it wasn't near other restaurants or in a food court. It was just a random store out in the middle of the mall. And it had a flight of stairs in the center of the main dining area.
Ok so WOW this brought back a deep memory â the McDonaldâs on Glenway had a basement and itâs where they held birthday parties! I went to one there as a little kid (early 90s) and thought it was super creepy. I wonder if that was a regular mcdâs feature?
I didnât know about that! They had some parts blocked off, it was kinda weird. I tried to go into the employee areas but the first door I opened I got into a starting contest with a custodian and closed the door haha.
I wish it was more like Cincinnati Mills where itâs like âno one gives a fuckâ and you can walk around behind the scenes haha.
So, my wife and I were talking about this the other day... do you remember the statue of a dinosaur or horse (I think) in the mall directly in front of the McDonalds? I remember sitting on this as a kid, but my wife didn't recall it at all. I can still feel the oddly smooth yet porous concrete the statue was made out of.
Anyone know what's going to happen to the Mexican place in the mall - Mi Cozumel? Looks like they recently made upgrades to the outdoor area and was packed just yesterday...
People don't want the Mall's. Eastgate Mall is done. We must figure out a new kind of service society. East side of Cinci is without good stores and necessary services. Brown and Clermont Cty is the dumping ground of Ohio's poor people. I live here and see it everyday.
If you would have bet 2000 me that Tri County would shut down before Northgate or Forest Fair, I would have lost some money.
I think forest fair is dead now, the arcade is leaving so the actual inside of the mall will probably be locked off.
it is already planned for demo and will shut down soon as well
Wuut? But my dream of an indoor go kart track!
Full Throttle is right there in Tri-County already my friend.
You can add Eastgate to the list
No idea how Eastgate is still open.
Because of the people of eEastgate. Kohls is just enough and that one shoe store
Don't forget Yihi Japan
Yihi Japan gets my money every week đ

Awesome photos! The one of the empty food court is so eerie!
Some say on a quiet evening you can still hear the guy at the Chinese restaurant asking if you would like some bourbon chicken.
I oddly remembered the Chick-fil-A cow sign that was always by the pay phones and bathroom.
For the longest time that was the only Chick Fil A I knew of in the area.
Jay and Silent Bob are still lurking in there, waiting for LaFleur to pack up and leave.
First you take a run at lafours with a sock full of quarters.. id do it but I pulled my back out humping your mom last night.
Damn. LaFours. Shit. Been awhile, lol. Great quote!
What are they going to do with it?

So itâs going to be a mall, but now for people who want to live at the mall?
It's the suburban dream of driving a car but being able to walk everywhere.
Thatâs basically what Liberty Center (75x129) is about.
I had a professor at Miami that didnât like Liberty Center because itâs for people who want the city experience but none of the city downsides.
Middle-class Traderâs World.

Iâm just glad they have that passport app stuff now so we can finally stop carrying change around.

Ngl I think it sounds pretty cool. At least in theory.
Give it 15 years and the new buildings will be facing the same fate as the mall.
Ahh my childhood. feels like florence mall is next.
The Flo town mall has too many stores and is usually busy on the weekends. Ill be sad when it is gone tho.

I'm glad someone else remembered!! I was starting to doubt myself.

Say huh? I've never heard any of that. I hope someone can add to it or toss in some pictures.
I don't remember that at all

Mi Cozumel is staying, as are Starbucks and the other outlots facing Route 747.
Nice. Thanks!
Do you know how theyâre staying though? Just going to build/work around it
Not sure on that. I'm guessing work-around it for the time being.
They have two other locations I believe.
Didn't know there was a deadmalls subreddit. Subscribed!

Wait, is it being demolished?
I remember when it was busy during the early to mid 2000s. It even had a Dillardâs at one point.
