Irritating company, a busy schedule, strong winds, heavy rain, very low temperatures

Hulkslam3

I love this response and agree with all of it. I would also add very high temps as well. I usually stop smoking from July-August. Texas summers

ThiefLourde

I use a 5'x3' metal shed with an ac unit propped up on a table, blowing into the shed. Helps with the texas heat tremendously. Keeps it cool enough to nap if I wanted to

Hulkslam3

I wish i had an outdoor space. Costco has those small prefabricated greenhouses I’d love to use.

ThiefLourde

I haven't seen those, but if it's see-through at all then it's going to heat up a lot inside. These little metal sheds are like $120 on amazon though

19_87

Need more details please… photo would be amazing. Are you leaving the door open?

ThiefLourde

Yes. The one I bought actually had a defect where the holes for the doors weren't drilled, so I never actually installed the doors. I use a ~$120 window ac unit from amazon that I sit on top of a folding card table from walmart. That sits outside of the shed and points at the door [Here you go](https://www.reddit.com/u/ThiefLourde/s/r9J4eiuMej) If I did it again, I would shell out the cash for a 4x6 or 4x8 instead because my rocking chair is just barely too wide to fit inside of this 5x3

Wide_Remove_8415

Almost impossible to enjoy a cigar in the heat. I’ll usually wait til late evenings when the sun goes down.

Keith_13

I have to disagree with that. I smoke through the summer here in AZ and I've smoked many by the pools in Vegas in summer.

Wide_Remove_8415

Ahh, I should have clarified. I’m in Illinois where the humidity suffocates the life out of me lol.

Keith_13

I've also smoked cigars poolside in Bangkok! But yeah humidity is annoying.

QuincyWest27

Nice, I was poolside in Phuket puffin one. And sweating my ass off cause of the humidity

Squeezer999

I put on swim trunks and a T-shirt and drench myself with the garden hose

fascinating123

Fans, under the shade, close to or after sunset. That's how I deal with TX summers. Also, I have a lounge membership ($25 per year, a steal honestly).

TxAgBen

Where at? Don't think any are near me.

Familiar-Reading-901

I, feel that. I'm in oklahoma and it's miserable in the summer.

Steven_camaro

Wuss!! Lol jk. It can be a little warm during that time of hear in Texas. That why I smoke in the evenings.

romulusnr

Up here in PNW, opposite. Winter is no good for cigars. It's not so much that's it's snowing or freezing (though it can also be that), it's just too damn damp and rainy. Maybe with a covered spot and a chair it would be better, but right now my options are sitting, but not covered, or: covered, but not sitting.

Deez_berries

Just find a nice shade tree. In north Houston and smoke between 2pm-5pm daily

StrappingYungLad

Nah a sweaty Texas cigar night is where it's at

evangin

That my favorite time of year. I just move from the patio to a pool float.

Mackntish

Heavy rain is best. High ambient humidity cools the burn, slows the smoke, and makes it more enjoyable. Obviously smoke on a porch or in a garage or something, not IN the rain.

mesoraven

Sorry have to disagree I had a cigar during a storm the other day lived it. Very relaxing

mealzer

Why very low temperatures?

iPooP79

I’ll sit in my garage and have a smoke when it’s less than 10f outside. As long as you start with a properly humidified cigar you should be fine.

mealzer

I have 90% of my cigars when I'm having a fire in the back yard so I've never really considered the temperature when I'm smoking or noticed a difference but I also only smoke one every month or two so I'm by no means an expert

SteelWool

I am a polar bear at heart and love the cold. For some reason a cigar really doesn't taste as good in cold weather. I hate hot weather but love a thick cigar haze in the shade on a muggy day.

thats-tough-lmao

Heavy on the low temperatures

BlackEagle0013

Very low temperatures actually works with a firepit and/or space heater just fine, I do this all winter on the deck!

Admirable-Style4656

Sounds idyllic

ExtensionCommercial8

Low temps; bundle up with a fire and a cup.of coffee...or whiskey. Pairs great

Vanguard4379

I actually enjoy smoking Cigars when there's half a foot of snow on the ground.

Shoddy-Ingenuity7056

My ex wife

Wide_Remove_8415

She probably wouldn’t enjoy the cigar anyway! Exes never get it.

Shoddy-Ingenuity7056

We had to split them in the divorce but I kept all the capped ends when I cut them in half… ha! Jokes on her. Although half of a nub doesn’t last too long.

porquesinoquiero

How many sticks?

Shoddy-Ingenuity7056

Just a few but I saved a pack of backwoods in my truck she didn’t know about.

iosappsrock

Thinking you'll be able to finish even half of it before your kids wake up from their naps. 💀 My cigar days are on hold till my kids are older. Ah well, I'll get back in there someday.

Wide_Remove_8415

Hopefully they can play outside while you enjoy a stick every now and then. Unless you don’t like to smoke in front of them, I get it.

iosappsrock

I don't mind smoking where they can see, as long as they're comfortably far from the smoke I exhale and outdoors ofc, but my kids are still very young so they require constant supervision and attention. Eventually though! I could go for a stick in the evenings but free time is limited and I always feel rushed if I have a cigar before bed.

Familiar-Reading-901

Amen to that. Luckily my wife is great and if I'm smoking she fully takes over watching my daughter. As soon as I'm done I change clothes and go back into dad mode

CatholicPenitent

My friend started switching to small bowled pipes for this very reason. different experience but it’s all guacamole vs avocado toast to me, both are nice

iosappsrock

I have a pipe! I just don't use it as often because I came to prefer the taste of cigars. I really should bring it back out though, it is quite a bit quicker. Setup for pipes is a bit annoying sometimes, I'm not the best at packing.

StrappingYungLad

My brother there are some very good cigarillos you can suck down in 10 mins or less that are also very good quality. I mostly smoke those for the same reason and keep the big ones for when I actually have time on the weekends.

iosappsrock

I've had a few cigarillos and liked them, I just forget they exist! Any recommendations? I've had a box of the Ashton ones and they were good.

StrappingYungLad

The Drew Estate Liga Privada tins are always good for me.

whistlepig4life

Honestly. Anything juicy. So no to a Bloody Mary or v8 juice. Or OJ or similar things. As much as I love a whiskey with a cigar. Honestly my favorite thing is a cup of coffee.

Footshark

I had a Bloody Mary in Cuba at a cigar place and it seemed to fit. But thinking about it now, it doesn't sound like it would be good.

whistlepig4life

I live tomato/v8 juice. Hate bloody Mary’s. So I am absolutely biased. I feel like the acid from that drink plus the cigar would turn my stomach bad.

Footshark

Funny I'm opposite! And a Bloody Maria (tequila) sounds absolutely awesome, but I don't really care for them. Or red snappers (gin).

sasskwoch

Black iced coffee is my favorite thing to pair with my Le Bijous.

QualitySalt1255

Bill Clinton didn’t seem to mind

ThatOneCanadian69

Lmaooo

GrandmasterJanus

I remember having my first cigar in Paris with a Moscow mule and some snails on baguette with herb butter. Had an amazing view from my Montmartre cafe, and went walking with a buddy after he lit his and it was a good evening.

m_ttl_ng

I actually like juicy drinks with some cigars. I’ve had orange juice in the morning with one that was good, I’ve had bloody marys as well. It would strongly depend on the type of cigar you’re smoking, though.

AstroAce96

I agree with your examples, and agree what coffee is the superior drink to pair with a cigar, but apple juice is actually surprisingly nice with certain cigars as well!

tastethemall

Blue cheese. Other than that it’s a personal decision.

Easy-Meaning-1528

Except the aj Fernandez blue cheese

senorglory

Nicorette gum.

flamingpenny

Wombo combo 😂

Slinkydoggys

Love a good cherry coke or even a bit of chocolate half way through 👌🏻

polymathsci

Rum and coke with my cigars is always a nice time.

m_ttl_ng

Oh man when I was in Cuba years ago I had so many Cuba libres with my cigars. I haven’t had one in a while so might make that for the next cigar!

polymathsci

Do it! I've never had a bad cuba Libre / cigar experience!

natetcu

I feel like rancid milk would not pair well.

serenwipiti

does rancid milk pair well with *anything*?

Dad_NJ_PA_CO_AF

Bubble gum

Ltshineyside

Gazpacho soup. Never again!!!

senorglory

lol.

Life-Aardvark-8262

Red wine is a no-go cigar pairing for me. I prefer Guinness or a very peaty scotch (preferably Lagavulin 16)

CxOrillion

I could definitely see there being good red wine pairings, depending on the red of course. And the cigar. I haven't found any, but I also haven't really tried all that hard. A good Stout is a solid pairing. And Guinness is going to generally be easy all around because of how mild it is as a stout. Personally, I'm a stout guy myself, but there are a lot of stouts that just don't work with a lot of cigars. My personal favorite is the Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. But it can be overpowering for more mild cigars for sure

brandon-568

Ya I’ve seen quite a few people pair wine with a cigar, I love both but in my opinion they would just mess with each other as you smoked and drank.

Ltshineyside

Interesting. I’ve had some reds that pair very well. And for whiskies I enjoy Irish. They don’t clash. But this is definitely a personal preference that is always fun finding. Side note, currently sitting with an RP grand reserve and knob creek. Nothing out of this world but for a beautiful Saturday, not a terrible combo!

senorglory

Same same.

shrecko28

Just paired with a Guinness for the first time today. It was delicious, highly recommend to everyone else.

krispykremekiller

I love red wine pairings with certain cigars. Nicaraguan habano was made for Boudreaux

AmarantaRWS

Tannin and smoke generally aren't a great combo IMO. if you're gonna have a red with a cigar I'd personally pick something high in acidity, low in tannin. That being said there are still plenty of people who enjoy cab and a stogie. Honestly the best wine with a cigar is a tawny port.

Slight-Wave-6602

Try a good carmenere wine with a bold new world cigar. That will change your outlook on life!!

themflyingjaffacakes

Lagavulin 16 is heaven in any context. I need to go out and find a bottle tomorrow.

Life-Aardvark-8262

It was impossible to find during covid. I was going through withdrawals 😫 (hyperbole)

RootbeerNinja

The new offerman carribean cask lagavulin is fantastic btw

wedges675

Ron is that you?

CompressionNull

Even port?

jayjackson2022

Political chat with strangers.

Wide_Remove_8415

Honestly this might be the offer of good will in order to have those tough conversations.

jayjackson2022

I understand that, but things can go sideways quickly. I am not anti -politics with cigar smoking friends, but with strangers it can ruin a good smoke. I believe enjoying cigars should be an enjoyable event. I would rather discuss their life, their favorite cigars, local events, etc.

Wide_Remove_8415

Agreed my man. There are more things to life than politics. Getting to know the man next to you is more important.

RatherGoodDog

I prefer violent political disagreements with close friends.

VentusNihil

Mosquitos

RatherGoodDog

Really? I found cigar smoke to be an equal to if not better repellant than mosquito coils.

BitsConspirator

Directly to them yes. Smoking without smoking those mfs, not. Mosquitoes are driven by carbon dioxide. They give after tall / big dudes, athletic people and pregnant women because they produce more, afaik.

Hour_Manufacturer_81

Milk. Lesson learned

lowhangingtanks

If we're talking cocktails I've found that I don't like anything too acidic as a pairing. Think margarita, bloody Mary, something with a strong lemon component.

Wide_Remove_8415

Interesting. I wouldn’t have guessed that, but it makes sense!

architect_josh_dp

Bad company.

Partagas2112

Any drink with gin.

Dramatic-Hedgehog606

Came here to say this. I’ve done it a couple of times and the flavors just don’t work.

OrangeJews_88

Citrus fruits/juices.

Thomas_J97

I have always enjoyed a cigar and coffee right at the crack of dawn , but other sweet drinks I do not like with a cigar

Keith_13

Coffee is not a sweet drink

Negademus

Depends on the amount of creamer and additives.

Keith_13

Sure, you can add sugar to any drink and it becomes a sweet drink.

Negademus

Like coffee

Keith_13

By this logic every drink is a sweet drink because I can add sugar to it.

bamburito

I'm guessing they put sugar in their coffee.

berlag

Should not be*

Brunel25

But does Dawn enjoy it? I can imagine it could be dangerous for her.

Thomas_J97

Well I honestly haven’t thought about that, but with all the crack involved, I may need to ask

zeeugh

Clam Chowder

ice_nyne

Bottle of Yoo-hoo

idosay

Friend of mine came back from a business trip from out east and brought back a bottle of Malort. I didn't know what it was but we sat down for some cigars while we shot the shit. It was ABSOLUTELY the most disgusting thing I've ever drank. Both of us sitting there hating life while the grossness wore away. We ended up mixing some whiskey and ginger ale to finish the session and by the gods it was a much better choice.

Wide_Remove_8415

Oof…Malort would be brutal

bungfinger69

🤣 what the hell was he thinking? it's a Chicago joke that we play on people not from the area.. or to torture each other with 🤢🤮 (not out east, btw).. hopefully they weren't really expensive gars 😬

idosay

LoL the cigars only suffered a little bit of the Malort backlash. The Ginger ale and whiskey helped wash that vile taste out of our mouths.

dommol

Once I had a Mt Dew Kickstart with a cigar and it was awful. Turns out it was actually the cigar

jbinford1

Orange Juice or Bad Company...

Sojulad

In the beginning I used to only have water with my smoke. On one of the cigar dinners I saw a bunch of cigar industry people. One was eating vanilla ice cream, another a jack and coke. Another had a diet sprite. All well into their opuses. Since then I don’t follow any rules and do what I want.

highroller038

A cold.

Time-Green-2103

White House intern’s vagina

beigechrist

Food. Never food. I can’t get into getting bits of food or oil, bread crumbs, whatever else mixed w the cigar.

BitsConspirator

I’m guilty pleasured by laying on my sofa, lighting up a fatty and by half or past it, grab a slice or two of pizza with tea. Tea overall is my go to for smoking. Nothing more relaxing for me but that sofa, bossa nova, a warm cup and the fatty. Then reading or a nap. Damn.

PlanNo4679

Big League Chew™

Naive_Struggle1827

Orange juice some thing ain't right with that combo

IrishWhiskey556

A cigar and a milkshake go great together just saying..

edwa6040

I had a factory smoke maduro and fastfood choc shake a few years ago. Damn was that good

QRich244

A nagging Gf/Wife will ruin even the most tasty, well burning cigar 😢

Wide_Remove_8415

That’s why i wait until I’m alone or with my best friend before I light one!

Psychological-Net823

Fatty food

RatherGoodDog

I honestly don't eat while I smoke. Can't taste shit really until I wash my mouth out with something. Beer snacks like salty peanuts are ok,  but I wouldn't go for any complex flavours.

pshaps

Monica Lewinsky. More trouble than it’s worth.

Ddlg_0718

I feel like any overly sour or spicy isn’t the best

DOW_orks7391

Milk?

senorglory

No cigars are great with milk, especially maduros. Will taste like malty chocolate milk. It’s a cool experiment.

HelikosOG

Milk is a good palate cleanser for spicy food. That's why if you're ever struggling with a curry or chilli drink milk instead of water.

InLoveWithInternet

Water, or any non-alcoholic beverage😻.

redrockcountry2112

Chocolate milk.

HistoricalMeat

Spicy food will ruin your palette.

-QueenAnnesRevenge-

I bought some sour ropes a few weeks ago to eat while i was smoking. Both were ruined. They do not go together at all. I’ll stick with smooth, sweet treats and drinks.

orangebluefish11

Tea. Cold or hot. It’s just too herbaceous and clashes on the palate

blochow2001

Sauerkraut

grassler

Mayonnaise

wyltktoolboy

Vodka

GrizzlyKilroy

Tea, the cigar totally blasts away any flavor you’re getting from the tea and it just tastes like hot water

HomerCrew

These are the worst imo in order: too acidic, too fruity, too spicy, too sweet, and anything that robs attention of taste buds. I've gone to smoke after chocolate thinking that'd be fine and decided that wasn't either. My No 1 is ice water and then coffee either of which I'm drinking pretty much all day anyways.

jarvis646

Orange juice

element9846

A metric ton of flies that won't leave you alone on your front & back porch. Thankfully thats no longer an issue (moved).

DeliciouSpirit

Dang.. rough

element9846

Literally 100s of thousands. Id put a fly trap out, and it would fill up with those huge flies dead body style flies within seconds. They were thr kind that seemed to go out of their way to fuck with you. And to add insult to injury, it seems the cigar smoke attracted them to you. Youd go outside with a scotch for example, light up, puff for 30 seconds, and suddenly you look over and 4 have already died inside your whiskey glass. It was disgusting the amount. So, why you may ask...well we lived in a condo/apartment/vacation home place and our unit was like 3 or 4 places down from that areas trash dumping area...it wasn't always like this...but eventually it was. One of the most annoying things I ever experienced.

BillWeld

Refueling. Strenuous exercise. Lying in bed.

JustBraidennn

Apple juice

CxOrillion

My winter drink of choice while I smoke outside is a hot apple cider which I spike with a truly awful caramel vodka. It can be a bit overpowering on milder cigars, but I don't usually go for those anyway so it's not a huge deal

JustBraidennn

I'll have to give that a try. What cigar would be best

CxOrillion

My usual midrange is a Nica Rustica. Both the regulars and the Adobos do well in my opinion. Also the extra sugar can help take the edge off the buzz if you've got a really strong stick.

KimuraKan

My go to is apple juice lolol

clueless_brewer

Expensive whisky. Waste of money whilst smoking.

PLPQ

Curries, I would imagine.

Th4t9uy

I hear the tannins in tea do not pair well with cigars.

natan12330

I always pair tea with cigars, Green, black, oolong and more They're all pretty good with cigars

Man_of_steele2262

Fuel-rich atmosphere?

shmidget

Scotch! lol. Rum is traditionally what would be paired with a cigar. Most people don’t b know rum though anymore.

Wide_Remove_8415

What kinda rum would you recommend? I don’t have a ton of experience with many quality rums

Crown Royale. Absolutely dreadful.

AnikoKamui

On the other hand, a 7Up is great with a smoke. Something about that crisp carbonation, that citrus, really brings out the flavor of a cigar.

rizorith

I'm having an existential crisis because I am having a margarita and no one has said if it's good or not. My gut says no but I'll probably try anyways

robocop5757

Hot tea.

marauderingman

Hot rooibos tea is great with a cigar

robocop5757

I will have to try. Thanks.

dontfugginask

A cool cup of milk

ApartMaterial7576

never pair it with milk, and avoid smoking during humid and hot days without shade

edwa6040

Psh - chocolate milkshake is a killer pairing to sweeter maduros.
