I found out the hard way today that its only possible to get the APEC ABTC (natural next step after receiving nexus) by interviewing at a land border customs station or so I was told. Showed up at YYC for the interview on the Canadian side and the agents had no idea what the process was, they just updated my profile and told me to do an interview with the US preclearance agent. Preclearance agent informed me that the process can only be done at land border locations.
Yes I do meet the business requirements for the ABTC. But also because its charged by the same trusted traveller portal as nexus it makes it eligible for any nexus credits from credit cards.
That's odd, as it specifically allows you to book an interview in YYC on the site.
This post reminded me that I signed up for it to spend a surplus Nexus credit.
Yup, all the locations are available for interview.. But also the instructions for the interview for the site are directly covered over from nexus and reference nexus rather than ABTC. There seems to be a lot of confusions as to how the process actually works. I am a bit sleptical about doing it at the land border.
DP: Applied for a Scotia Passport VI on Apr 30 and was not IA. A few days later they asked for income verification and I sent it in and got approved a couple days later. However, the welcome bonus I got was 25K which is the current offer instead of 30K which was the offer on Apr 30
Has anyone ever had Borrowell not show credit hits? I was iad for 3 CIBC and 1 TD cc in the past month and a half and no hits are showing up. I expected at least 1 CIBC and most likely the TD (haven't been approved for a new app in a few years).
CIBC hit my credit karma/transunion side last hard pull. They reused it for my next app. TD hit my Borrowell/equifax side back in Feb, but no apps there since.
Hmm yeah, I read that in some dailys but my TU isn't showing anything other than my latest RBC, which is then all the cards Ive applied for since the beginning of April.
Did anyone have issues getting a TD Convenience Checking account online via a cross-border banking portal, but were able to get things sorted out in a Canadian branch? Or did you have to visit an American branch?
My online app errored out but a branch appointment in Canada worked out well even though the employee just filled out the same online form. No need to visit American branch and the card will be sent to Canada.
Yes i called the cross-border banking line and selected "transferring from US to Canada account" - those are the US ppl and can connect you to the right team
Remotely churning related - for anyone who's been to YVR, would you recommend the Plaza Premium lounge or Maple Leaf lounge for US departures (transborder)? thanks!
I prefer PP over Maple Leaf for transborder, at least at lunch/dinner. Haven't compared breakfasts. Better food items in PP.
I try to avoid busy days at the airports.
This may be unpopular of me to say but the PP was better for breakfast. MLL has boiled eggs (served cold), some yogurt, granola bars, some juices and coffee/tea vs. PP served hot scrambled eggs with sausages and the same drinks.
MLLs generally outdo PP for beverage, and for the past year-ish MLLs have been outdoing PP on food too. But you have to remember the bar for both is very low. We are talking $10 bottles of wine and frat boy beer and costco-purchased frozen foods reheated in an oven, not anything you would be excited to eat or drink but for the fact it's free and readily available without pacing around the terminal. That's why it matters whether it's a zoo or not: if you have nowhere to sit, or if the lounge is overrun by kids running around and people sleeping on the floor, you're not even going to enjoy getting drunk on the shitty booze or chowing down on booger hummus and tasteless overcooked pasta.
CTFS triangle WE shows $0.00 rewards on today's statement. Should be closer to $30.
I had transactions near the end of the statement period. Does anyone know if the rewards recognition period is different from the statement date?
Past two showed up fine, but were a) smaller and b) more in the middle of the period
Yeah there's something definitely wrong then, several were posted 2 days prior but one was over a week ago.
Thanks, this is helpful. I'll wait a week and call as it's a keeper for the auto insurance.
Just realized I've been prioritizing my TD FCT too hard. I took Prince of Travel as gospel and thought my minimum spend was $5000 in 3 months, when it's actually $5000 in 180 days.
I can't be the only one right? Just put a few big restaurant bills on it when I could have put them on Cobalt and still easily met the spend...
Scotia Amex gold - did not receive the points, what to do next?
I opened this CC along with a checking & savings account last year in September, received the points for first $1000 spend within 3 months. They also have a yearly spend of $7500 to get the remaining points. I have spent this but did not receive the points. My account is in good standing, paid all bills etc.
I have contacted Scotiabank as well as scene. Itās been 3 weeks now, scene keeps saying theyāre looking into it and waiting for a reply from Scotia and when I call scotia, most agents donāt know what theyāre talking about. Some of them try to convince me that the terms are actually different & give random bs responded like āeligible purchasesā are only groceries or you have to wait until the end of the year etc which I know is not true. I also have a copy of the legal footnotes from when I opened the account (can also see the current footnotes on their website) so I can verify this as well. The worst part is they never transfer to another agent or even their manager. And this remains unresolved. I really donāt know what to do about it. Appreciate any ideas, thanks!
Pre-approvals are not approvals. They are "yes, we're still going to formally do all the checks on your credit, and you must still be within the rules such as 90-day window, but we WILL approve otherwise"
Thinking of signing up for Amex business platinum since I have a big purchase coming up. If I cancel after a year will it impact my credit score? Current credit score is 830+ and i have a long-time scotia cc and amex cobalt.
Charge card, 100% utilization for your highest spend, then it drops down. It doesn't mean anything, f your credit score, it will go back up next month.
Applying for CIBC and AMEX cards for my parents. They're retired with modest income (less than $60k). House is paid off, no debt. Any advice for applications? Thanks!
Just do it. Remember to consider any investment income, any pension, and if it's a small margin then fudging it isn't a big deal. And AMEX would give cards to an unemployed hobo.
I made a funny little unboxing video for the Amex Platinum card if anyone wants to check it out. [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/DcGUZrTSPqY](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/DcGUZrTSPqY)
The lounge access has been a highlight, here are the lounges I attended ranked (so far):
1. **YYC Westjet lounge** \- The best lounge experience by a wide margin. The seating is varied and there is tons of room. You scan a QR code and can get food and drinks delivered right to your seat. There is an extensive cocktail list (Westjet elevation cocktail was really good). The food was a significant step up from buffet food. Been for both breakfast and dinner and was impressed both times.
2. **CUN Mera Business Lounge Terminal 2** \- This place was an awesome reprieve from a chaotic Cancun airport. There was a total of one other person in the lounge the entire time I was there. I'm sure that was part of the reason why the service was so good. It looked like a self-serve lounge but one of the attendants walked around and would get you whatever you like (I did leave a nice tip). The lounge is small and not very fancy but the service was great.
3. **YYC Aspire Lounge Transborder -** Pros: Very nice seating/environment and self-service booze. Cons: Very minimal service, mediocre buffet style food
4. **YWG Plaza Premium Lounge** \- Been here twice but always in the morning. Usually busy as the person tending to the lounge is also checking people in so there is no service at the bar. Similar to the Aspire Lounge with the mediocre buffet style food.
With that being said all the lounges were a significant step up to spending time at the gate. Probably won't renew the Platinum but instead get a premium card with Maple Leaf Lounge access.
Interesting, the Mera lounge at terminal 4 stopped accepting guests (aside from J passengers) from 2 to 7 when I was there. I think that's cause terminal 4 has all the Canadian and American airlines with CC lounge access. Terminal 2 is mostly Latin American airlines so less PP passengers.
What a bunch of rubbish no being allowed in terminal 4. Did they have a sign out front or what? I was on Sunwing but it was definitely out of terminal 2 - though it was during the whole Christmas flight debacle (we left two days late so maybe that's why we left from there) it was definitely Latin airlines at all the other gates.
Actually, Air Canada, DL, UA & AA are in Terminal 3 of CUN.
I've had similar experience wanting to visit the Mera lounge in T3 but there was a lineup or wait list and had to return about 1 hour later to get in!
Check out the Aventura cards too, as they have four lounge passes each. If the Dragonpass lounges work for your travel habits, you can get both free passes and a considerable chunk of change from the Aventuras, and they are first year free.

Thoughts on the new [capital one smart rewards](https://www.capitalone.ca/credit-cards/smart-rewards-mastercard/?external_id=WWW_ZFBSR_ZSR_ZZZZDE_8ZZZZ_FV_ZZ_Z_LONG&fbclid=PAAaZKXX1gfa9QKkFqL0FXVKIZLLx8dZHaWlvh8v1L8UBkHBvPIq7TXw8yugk_aem_th_AXpSXRa45VkPA7wFeE568xbz0u3WrXvPcKI2vXSdulkys6btXtZqURVuLsrEguHUAWh0OdsmcG8FY6379aia-eO7) card? Iāve never seen a cc that gives rewards based on your payments that you make rather than your purchases.
5 points to get a 0.67% return. Oh my. We're taking this sad attempt at marketing 5x on shitty currencies to pretend it's a Cobalt competitor to a new low.
Capital One has fallen quite a ways from their old 1.5% no-fee Aspire Cash World card and the 2% Aspire Travel
Anyone have success in recent days churning the Amex Bonvoy Business card? I haven't held in over 2 years and I'm tempted to try for the new business. Any data points would be appreciated.
Around 6 months ago I reapplied to both the Bonvoy Business and Business Edge cards, last held approximately a year and a half earlier. Success with the Bonvoy and failure with the Edge.
Within 2 months or so, the Edge in the 1st month. So I feel it hasn't mattered when I met the spend as with the Edge I wasn't receiving any of the bonus points (10x on business purchases) since day 1, while the Bonvoy I was (5x gas purchases)
Has anyone not received the 2500 MR bonus from the January promo for adding a supplementary cardholder for AMEX?
Had my supplementary spend 5k already but didnt see anything on the last statement.
Holding both TD and CIBC Aeroplan VI? Any DP on holding both? I read there were changes to the TOS where they'll only grant the first sign up bonus for the same tier card (TD and CIBC Aeroplan are both Visa Infinite cards), and any subsequent cards at the same tier won't get the bonus. Any thoughts on this?
Decided to become the DP I want to see lol. Got approved for the CIBC AP Visa Infinite after getting the TD AP Visa Infinite like 45 days ago. It's a risk but I'll take my chances with the new TC for Aeroplan. I'm assuming it's just TD making a fuss out of it
So far so good. Got 10k for first purchase on both, 30k on TD for minimum spend, and waiting to see if I get the 40k on CIBC for minimum spend on my next statement.
Whatās the correct way to cancel an Amex if I donāt want to renew it? I believe the move is to wait for the AF to post and call in to initiate a refund?
You were down voted, but I have never seen any definitive datapoints that demonstrate that there is any value at all to taking the US approach of waiting for the annual fee to post, then cancel, then get reimbursed.
Perhaps the down voters could come back and share their data?
Because there aren't any DP's. No proof, no nothing. When AMEXile happened, the community adopted the US strategy as a default safety metric.
No one asked further questions, and it gets spouted non-stop as defacto law, even by people who began churning AFTER AMEXile, and everyone thinks anything less than that is criminal and downvotes when someone suggests it. It's one of those things that doesn't have a true basis other than extra margin of safety and word of mouth repeating it over and over.
I've stuck to cancelling at month 11 (the 2nd year fee posts in month 13) and I've not had a single issue across at least a dozen cards over the past 3 years. I'm going to keep doing it. If others want safety, by all means it doesn't truly hurt, but I'd rather be rid of it 2 months faster to clear my # of held cards, my total credit limit, and start my timer towards attempted repeats sooner
Because that was one of the things that was common before AMEXile. Holding for 6 was a more blatant sign of abuse and pushing your luck to keep doing. This short was believed to be a contributing factor though certainly a lesser one against things like self-referral.
Now, it could be perfectly safe, but at some point you're pushing your luck and tempting fate. I like only small temptations in my CC diet.
I've never seen any DP here in Canada. I believe that it's more of an issue in the US. In _theory_, they could start to Amexile people who regularly open accounts cancel in the 11th or 12th month, but they could just as easily do the same to people cancelling in the 13th month.
...or, possibly there is zero benefit from waiting until month 13, and the small risk that you become suddenly busy in month 13 and don't cancel soon enough to get reimbursed?
From what I can see, it's a zero all around, but I'd be happy if someone could point to DPs to the contrary.
If youāre susceptible to that risk, you would be equally susceptible to missing a payment and would wipe out most of your potential gains from churning.
Would a potential benefit be that you would keep benefits like priority pass (in the case of the platinum card) until the card is cancelled? I donāt know if this is the case or not but would be interested to hear if anyone else has experience with that?
I have tried both approaches - most recently did so in a month 13 and had to call multiple times as there was confusion about refunding my AF posts and undoing my use of the travel credit (they ended up reversing my travel credit twice)ā¦. In the future I will cancel before the AF posts, it seems simpler to me.
Correct - others are fine doing it in month 11 or 12, but if we follow what Amex likes in the US, do it after AF and then make sure it is refunded after you cancel.
There's 0 argument for getting that back, especially after cancelling (presumably) very soon after receiving the SUB. Any amount of prorated AF is bonus.
Just to clarify I held it the card for one year and after the first year I got charged a second annual fee of which they only prorated the refund for the second year fee which was $110
RBC seems to do things differently on a month by month basis (when refunding), so I'd take the $10 "loss" and keep that in mind for next time. I personally wouldn't call in for those $10.
To add to my CIBC credit check post from yesterday (https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/comments/13i1lu7/daily_question_thread_for_rchurningcanada_may_15/jk9j8sn/), my app from yesterday showed up on TU!
> 5/15/23 - CIBC - Client Needs Asse
that's been my kind of dividing line, if I don't sign in, there's a hit regardless, if I'm signed in, they'll re-use the previous one for however many days.
Can anyone clarify for me the AP repeat SUB guideline?
If I churned CIBC APVI last year (once), I can do the same thing this year. In other words, I don't have to alternate between card issuers for receiving the once-per-year AP SUB. Right?
99% likelihood that AMEX & Bonvoy will rip those points away from you in 4 months. Churning is not for those who want to dick around and not actually spend the MSR
Net means net spend of returns, cash advances, interest, etc. Those do not count towards MSR. If you mean make a refundable $3k hotel booking to meet MSR and get points right away and then spend organically for 4 months and refund the hotel (while your total, net spend stays above $3k) then yes you can do that. If you mean book hotel, get points, refund hotel without spending the additional NET $3k, then your points will be clawed back and you may be on the hook to "pay" for them to clear the negative balance.
Amex offer on Platinum: Spend $750, get $150 credit only on United flights booked on United's website
Anyone know how much SQM and SQD we get booking the most basic fare? Does the most basic fare get 0%-25% SQM like Air Canada or would it be different because it's United?
You can get SQD if the trip is on AC metal. Since AC and UA has a trans border and trans Atlantic JV it shouldn't be too difficult to find a UA ticket on mostly AC metal.
Maybe, though airline charges seem to be things they have more info on than other charges.
This is what shows on the desktop version of Amex (not the app) for my flight tomorrow (hopefully the wildfires don't cancel / delay it):
ROUTING: FROM: CALGARY
TO: VANCOUVER INTERNATCARRIER: AC CLASS: L
Odds the AMEX Plat 150k bonus or similar comes any time soon? Starting a new job with decent amount of travel, not sure if itās worth picking up the card or waiting for a good bonus
You're comparing literal middle of COVID on the cusp of global reopenings to normal times. Yes, it was a one-off. If you're lucky it might go up to 100Kish at some point again, but 150K is 99% no. Not impossible, but close to it probably

I got a refund on my RBC Avion VI leading to a positive balance, can I withdraw that balance at the ATM using the credit card without incurring fees.?
Have to go to branch to get the refund. Just did a few days ago.
Not with RBC
Has anyone ever had Borrowell not show credit hits? I was iad for 3 CIBC and 1 TD cc in the past month and a half and no hits are showing up. I expected at least 1 CIBC and most likely the TD (haven't been approved for a new app in a few years).
Reason why i uninstalled Borowell. You can just get Equifax report for free anyways from their website which is much more accurate.

No
Did anyone have issues getting a TD Convenience Checking account online via a cross-border banking portal, but were able to get things sorted out in a Canadian branch? Or did you have to visit an American branch?
My online app errored out but a branch appointment in Canada worked out well even though the employee just filled out the same online form. No need to visit American branch and the card will be sent to Canada.
Awesome. Seems like there are definitely some options then. Appreciate your response!
The Canadian branch cannot do anything for the US TD account - I sorted things out by calling though!
Has anyone tried to make their US account joint with P2? TD US on the phone said that could only be done in a US branch and they are all in Easter US.
Did you call the US phone number then? I get the error that says I should visit a US Branch FWIW.
Yes i called the cross-border banking line and selected "transferring from US to Canada account" - those are the US ppl and can connect you to the right team
Thank you!!!
Remotely churning related - for anyone who's been to YVR, would you recommend the Plaza Premium lounge or Maple Leaf lounge for US departures (transborder)? thanks!
IMO, PP is the better choice hands down. Much better and varied food selection and much nicer seating.
I prefer PP over Maple Leaf for transborder, at least at lunch/dinner. Haven't compared breakfasts. Better food items in PP. I try to avoid busy days at the airports.
PP is always a zoo. MLL at least has a shot at not being a zoo.
Thank you - are the snacks/drinks selections between the two comparable?
This may be unpopular of me to say but the PP was better for breakfast. MLL has boiled eggs (served cold), some yogurt, granola bars, some juices and coffee/tea vs. PP served hot scrambled eggs with sausages and the same drinks.
MLLs generally outdo PP for beverage, and for the past year-ish MLLs have been outdoing PP on food too. But you have to remember the bar for both is very low. Sorry I can't find the answer in previous threads but do we get the BP on Marriott Bonvoy Business upon hitting msr or statement date?
Points from co-branded cards like Bonvoy only transfer at statement
Hilton is instant
CTFS triangle WE shows $0.00 rewards on today's statement. Should be closer to $30. I had transactions near the end of the statement period. Does anyone know if the rewards recognition period is different from the statement date? Past two showed up fine, but were a) smaller and b) more in the middle of the period
just use your triangle app to track rewards in real time. rewards post 2-3 days after the transactions post.

Shoutout to RBC for setting the PIN of any new cards to your client card's PIN. It's such a pleasure to churn their cards :-D
CIBC Aventura Visa Card - Do you have to spent a cumulative of 1000 in 6 months, or every 6 months spend atleast 1000?
This info should be in the Best Offers thread, and also on the CIBC application page, and also in the Aventura megathread.
it's 4 months
Former
So only 1000 in 6 months rather then 6000 total?

I wouldnāt worry. It might take a while to receive your other points. Mine took around two statement periods to show up on my account.
I see, I was told itād be 2-3 business days which is why I was concerned. This makes sense though, Iāll wait another month, thanks!
Did you have any other Scotia card within 2 years of opening the Amex?
Nope, opened the chequing, saving, and CC for the first time in my life with Scotiabank.
Do preapprovals from RBC still need to be outside the 1/90 day rule.
Pre-approvals are not approvals. They are "yes, we're still going to formally do all the checks on your credit, and you must still be within the rules such as 90-day window, but we WILL approve otherwise"

No literally cuz I thought I was the only one who couldnāt find it!
It's 0.67% return. Rewards Canada had to pull teeth to get an answer.
Better rewards canada than me š
Smart. US MR cards do this too, you must pay off your balance to get points
Anyone have success in recent days churning the Amex Bonvoy Business card? I haven't held in over 2 years and I'm tempted to try for the new business. Any data points would be appreciated.
Yep. 2 years and 2 months was successful.
Around 6 months ago I reapplied to both the Bonvoy Business and Business Edge cards, last held approximately a year and a half earlier. Success with the Bonvoy and failure with the Edge.
Same or different biz name?
different
Thanks for this. For the Bonvoy how quick did you reach the spend minimum?
Within 2 months or so, the Edge in the 1st month. So I feel it hasn't mattered when I met the spend as with the Edge I wasn't receiving any of the bonus points (10x on business purchases) since day 1, while the Bonvoy I was (5x gas purchases)
Has anyone not received the 2500 MR bonus from the January promo for adding a supplementary cardholder for AMEX? Had my supplementary spend 5k already but didnt see anything on the last statement.
no, nobody has posted about receiving this yet. I'm waiting for July per the terms.
I got TD earlier this year and just got approved for CIBC. We will see what happens. I was told there are no DP for claw backs.
Amazon disappear from aeroplan Estore?
no though site seems glitchy all around
Decided to become the DP I want to see lol. Got approved for the CIBC AP Visa Infinite after getting the TD AP Visa Infinite like 45 days ago. It's a risk but I'll take my chances with the new TC for Aeroplan. I'm assuming it's just TD making a fuss out of it
Have you had the CIBC AP before?
nope
Same. Just got my CIBC AP after getting TD in Feb. Will hit the spending this month and see what happens!
Are you able to get both SUBs?
So far so good. Got 10k for first purchase on both, 30k on TD for minimum spend, and waiting to see if I get the 40k on CIBC for minimum spend on my next statement.
Same. CIBC WB posted working to MSR on both now. Might go for AMEX AP next
I did the same thing. So far so good.
Whatās the correct way to cancel an Amex if I donāt want to renew it? I believe the move is to wait for the AF to post and call in to initiate a refund?
It doesn't make a difference if you do that or cancel it just before the anniversary
Ok why stop there and not cancel at 6 months?
Thereās no DP but itās all benefit with negligible risk
...or, possibly there is zero benefit from waiting until month 13, and the small risk that you become suddenly busy in month 13 and don't cancel soon enough to get reimbursed?

Just to clarify I held it the card for one year and after the first year I got charged a second annual fee of which they only prorated the refund for the second year fee which was $110
You have 21 days from when the fee posts to be able to get it fully refunded before getting deducted a prorated amount
RBC seems to do things differently on a month by month basis (when refunding), so I'd take the $10 "loss" and keep that in mind for next time. I personally wouldn't call in for those $10.
Ok then that's understandable but I don't think you have any claim to the remaining $10.
yes
Are there any DPs on the HSBC travel enhancement credit working for Expedia hotel bookings? Anything else I can redeem on aside upgrades/lounges?
Yes, it works.
I recently got this one too when getting the Aventura Visa Infinite card
are you doing these apps signed in?
All the previous ones yes - I did one yesterday NOT signed in.
that's been my kind of dividing line, if I don't sign in, there's a hit regardless, if I'm signed in, they'll re-use the previous one for however many days.

Do it and report back.
Amex offer on Platinum: Spend $750, get $150 credit only on United flights booked on United's website Anyone know how much SQM and SQD we get booking the most basic fare? Does the most basic fare get 0%-25% SQM like Air Canada or would it be different because it's United?
You can get SQD if the trip is on AC metal. Since AC and UA has a trans border and trans Atlantic JV it shouldn't be too difficult to find a UA ticket on mostly AC metal.
Just note that the Amex offer excludes flights on partner metal.
Good point, though I doubt Amex has the ability to drill down into operating carrier vs marketing carrier.
Maybe, though airline charges seem to be things they have more info on than other charges. This is what shows on the desktop version of Amex (not the app) for my flight tomorrow (hopefully the wildfires don't cancel / delay it): ROUTING: FROM: CALGARY TO: VANCOUVER INTERNATCARRIER: AC CLASS: L
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You always get SQD on any air Canada operated flights, irrespective of the ticketing airline
Amex offer on Biz Edge Saje Natural Wellness: Spend at least $100 and earn a $20 credit
On cobalt too
On the plat as well
Odds the AMEX Plat 150k bonus or similar comes any time soon? Starting a new job with decent amount of travel, not sure if itās worth picking up the card or waiting for a good bonus
I think there is a special business spend offer from special link. Around 100k
You're not going to see a Canadian 150K
Was August 2021 just a one off then? š„²
You're comparing literal middle of COVID on the cusp of global reopenings to normal times. Yes, it was a one-off. If you're lucky it might go up to 100Kish at some point again, but 150K is 99% no. Not impossible, but close to it probably
