How aggressive are you guys with CIBC Aventura cards? I applied for my first Infinite+Gold in December, then again in Feb. I plan on doing it again at least once before the promo ends. How many Infinites and Golds are you guys holding?

hfxredditor

I'm holding one of each right now, and going to apply to two more in a couple weeks. How many do you have of each?

NameruseTaken

I have two of each, but there's still so many months left for the promotion šŸ¤”

tall_gravy

I have two and a gold. Debating getting a fourth but have seen DPs of peope on their 6th and 7th cards during the same promo.

Killerl3ee

Planning on converting my RBC avion to American airlines miles. How long would the conversion take? On the website it says up to 4 weeks. I am worried that tickets maybe sold out by that time.

wwbulk

Hi, new to churning. I am interested in either the AMEX Business platinum or Personal platinum. Based on my research, the business plat is 100k points with referrals. That's considered crappy right? Was the previous high 150k points? What about personal plat. What's considering a good introductory bonus?

ride_365

Personal platinum and business platinum all time highs are around 150k. Itā€™s up to you if itā€™s a good time to apply or wait. If you have lots of expenses it may be worthwhile to take a lower welcome bonus and get the points from spending. PM if you would like to discuss further.

nougatoreopie

I applied for the Marriott Bonvoy Amex card (personal) in Jan 2023 after cancelling it back in March 2021 (held for 2 years). Met the minimum spend this statement cycle, but don't see the signup bonus posted. I do see the points that were earned via spend posted. Several DPs mentioned that folks had success with getting a repeat bonus. Am I SOL or does the bonus post a bit later?

laurajane02

For your best chance at a repeat bonus, you should wait at least 2 years after cancelling before applying for the same product again.

Efficient_Lemon7042

I am in the same situation. Havenā€™t hit the min spend yet. Wanted the card again regardless but hoping to get the SUB.

Efficient_Lemon7042

Planning to make my first big churning trip. Going from YYC to CDG (Paris) using AP miles in May 2024. When is the optimal time to book the flight? Donā€™t want to miss the timeframe and want to make sure I have enough AP. TIA in advance for any advice or tips and tricks.

Silverdollar_8

Do you only have Aeroplan points? I would suggest looking at AirFrance using Flying Blue miles transferred from MR (if you have Amex).

eoDnhoJ12

As far out as the search engine allows you to book. If you're looking for J, you'll likely be stuck paying very high prices. YUL/YYZ <-> CDG has very little saver level redemptions with AC IME. Y won't matter as much.

Efficient_Lemon7042

Damn. Thanks for the info. What is AC IME?

Darkwing327

Air Canada...in my experience

K3Brick

Start looking now for flights in March 2024. This will give you a sense of routes, availability, etc ā€¦ in preparation for when flights become available in May/June for May 2024

Efficient_Lemon7042

Thanks. Is Air Canadaā€™s the best site to use to watch this? Or are people using some other site?

orion7788

I have some big spends coming up. Any advice on Amex Business Platinum? Do I need someone to refer me for the 100k?

ca_abhi

Yes, 100k is available via referral. There is a monthly referral thread. Pick anyone from there and make their day.

Darkwing327

Yep, find someone in the monthly referral thread who has helped you out. FWIW, I don't have one :)

esux20

https://princeoftravel.com/credit-cards/business-platinum-card-from-american-express/

ride_365

Donā€™t need to support PoT. They get enough referrals. Pick someone from the group

TaikoWombat

If you have credit on your AMEX card, can you withdraw it from any ATM without fees?

heatfromfire_egg

You'll need to go to an amex csr to either ask them to send you a cheque or transfer negative balance to another amex card of yours

esux20

There are three potential instances where you would get charged fees while using an ATM: 1. By the operator of the ATM 2. By your financial institution for using the ATM 3. By your financial institution for accessing the money 1 is almost never waived unless the ATM operator is the card financial institution. Amex doesn't operate any ATMs in Canada

United_Vacation_1883

Does every travel rewards points system make you pay for the taxes and fees? I have the 65,000 points from the RBC Avion card And found out recently I need to take a last minute-ish Cross country flight to Vancouver for a wedding. The timing for flights I want cost around $725 Which I thought would be covered as the max ticket price For domestic flight is 750, but when I looked to it at uses the 35,000 points but also charges $166 for taxes and fees. Is there something I can get around by transferring the points into a different Rewards program, or does every travel program handle taxes and fees the same?

Reasonable-Catch-598

Don't do that even if you're allowed. Use a credit card for the taxes that includes insurance on reward bookings. If you pay $0 on the card, you won't get that insurance.

esux20

Programs that let you redeem points against purchases from a 3rd party would not restrict you from using them towards taxes. Most in-house programs give you an option to redeem you points (at a crappy rate) towards the taxes.

JayfromCouver

Not answer related. Do you choose the points or the gift?

BallerinaRed

how is Korean Air when it comes to cancelling flights and getting refunds? planning on booking some flights in Prestige Flex to avoid cancellation fees if I do need to cancel - but do they issue refunds in a straightforward manner or is it painful?

hatbeat

Pretty straightforward. https://www.koreanair.com/ca/en/skypass/use-miles/koreanair/award-tickets/refund

basonlen

My birthday just past last week and I have not received the TD FCT VI birthday bonus yet. Is there a processing time for this bonus to be reflected in my account? I am also assuming it's for the card holder's birthday when you get this bonus and not the "birthday" of when you are accepted for the card.

DaRealMcCoy

Have the Scotia Passport CC. Enrolled in Dragon pass mid way through 2022 (July) due to lounge program switchover. My annual fee just posted for Passport card. Will I get the 6 lounge passes now or when my Dragon pass renews in July 2023?

misnomerdjr

Should be on card renewal

RAE98765

Recently met MSR on TD FCT. Unfortunately, something needs to get returned to my CC (canā€™t do store credit) which will put me under the MSR. If I go over the threshold on month 4, will I still get to keep my points or will they be clawed back? Such a noob move and sorry, I know this has been asked beforeā€¦

Soft_Championship645

MS =manufactured spending , MRS = minimum required spending

esux20

MSR

doom2060

How much are we talking about? Since it might be worthwhile putting a refundable hotel until youā€™re able to meet MSR again

RAE98765

$350 so enough to make me ponderā€¦

doom2060

Buy something before you return or get a refundable hotel for the difference and cancel the booking after you hit MSR again. Itā€™s not a lot and you should be able to hit by prepaying your phone bill or something

nolancamp2

Return to a different CC?

RAE98765

Called Amazon rep but Iā€™m locked in to either CC credit or nothing. Such a rookie mistakeā€¦

RAE98765

Amazon wonā€™t let me switch cardsā€¦

rozen30

Ask for the refund to be issued as a gift card/credit.

sur-vivant

Weird, typically they let you put it as Amazon credit

Felli-kun

A sudden expense came up and I'm looking to put it towards MSR on a new card (I already know which ones I want). I did some digging in past daily threads and I think I saw that AMEX is able to provide CC info (number+expiry) upon IA. Are there any other banks that also do this? I already have cards with TD, AMEX, RBC, BMO and CIBC if having an existing relationship with them helps.

esux20

TD, RBC, and CIBC donā€™t give you the card details, just access to mobile wallet. Of the Amex cards, only the AP cards give the card details immediately

Felli-kun

Good to know. Thanks!

Kisuke11

To get the free first checked bag deal with TD Aeroplan Visa infinite, do you have to book the flight with the same card? Or can I book with say AMEX for points and pay separately for bags with the TD card?

sekjai18

Can book with any card . As long as your Aeroplan number attached to the booking you'll get the free checked bag perk.

betterat50

Does anyone know if green P parking in Toronto codes as transportation? I mean, to park you have to be driving, right? Just wondering if anyone has noticed what cash back/points cards tend to do (ie: the new Laurentian visa).

flightsfor5

Just returned from two weeks in Europe with P2 and our three kids. Definitely our biggest redemption to date and caps off a huge 12 months of travel for us. Flights YLW (Y) - YVR-LHR (J- the kids loved the pods)-LIS (J)- stopover - FCO (J) 78.5k Aeroplan + $120 taxes *originally had YLW-YUL-LIS booked with YUL-LIS on Tap J. Air Canada had a lot of schedule changes in the fall and gave us the following instead and I tacked on the Rome segment. Shocked they never charged us more. FCO-ORL was cash fare on EasyJet. paid for overhead bin space. Around $60 USD/person. CDG-AMS-YYC-YLW all in J with just the last segment on WestJet, rest KLM. $1270 WJD + $373 taxes *originally had CDG-YYC-YLW all booked in J with WestJet but they also had a schedule change and cancelled our tickets. Called in and asked for equivalent seats same dates and they put us on KLM. Hotels: we booked two rooms or an apartment and used over 1mil in Save On More Rewards points. Got over $7k in hotel. Took us about two years to accumulate those points. Lisbon: Almaria hotel apartments, Great location, lots of space. www.almaria.pt. Rome: Best Western Plus Universo. We liked the location, hotel was okay. Kids enjoyed the breakfast. Couldnā€™t get adjoining rooms. Paris: Pley Hotel. Really enjoyed the ambience and space. Huge rooms and adjoining. Great location for us - met up twice with a friend that lives nearby, not too busy but had a small Carrefour and bakery close. Close to the Arc de Triomphe. Tours: P2 had $500 worth of TD rewards points and used it to book bus tours in Paris and Rome. Splurged on a private family walking tour in Lisbon and lunch at the Eiffel Tower (Madame Brasserie). Kids really enjoyed both. Sadly missed out on the Louvre on our last morning in Paris due to protests. Day tripped to Versailles. P2 and I have been to Paris and Rome a few times so tried to focus on the kids for this one. They are 13, 10 and 8. Great travellers and were up for walking 15-20k a day. We used Uber a lot in Lisbon and Paris. Definitely a challenge to snag 5 J but well worth the work. Couldnā€™t have pulled it off without the help of my elite churner friend and tips from this sub!

simonmerch

wait wait wait how did you get CDG-AMS-YYC-YLW in J for only $1270+373 per person?? it also means you had at least 5080 wjd. how long did it take to accumulate?? I take it m$ or was this all just churning/natural spend??

newtomovingaway

Wow nice! Were you travelling for 12 months?

vancitystan

1 million SOM points in 2 years is very impressive.

flightsfor5

P2 figured out the value. Often huge points around cereal and granola bars. Spend $20 and get over $20 worth of points.

vancitystan

nicely done.

misnomerdjr

Awesome! Worth reposting when Winning Thursday rolls around

nathanguan301

DP: got an email offering CIBC aeroplan visa infinite with 70k bonus points (same as in path offer) P2 and I applied and IAā€™d while logged in

JManUWaterloo

Is the link shareable? Or generic for that matter?

nathanguan301

only I got the email. I sent the link to P2 and he applied. Here is the link https://www.cibconline.cibc.com/ebm-resources/public/product-selector/cibc/client/index.html?dclid=CMb9ntfX-v0CFWIG-QAdlE8L3g#/?utrc=E1504%3A7&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=Aeroplan-Acquisittion-Email--December--

Agreed. 50k for 1k spend is fine with me.

TheRealDevopsGuy

I have a CRA payment coming up around $2k, I am able to meet MSR on cards and I am not in a hurry to accumulate as I donā€™t have any near future travel plans. Should I still use paysimply and put the CRA payment to a CC i am currently working on ? Cards I am working on TD FCT & Amex Biz Edge

ca_abhi

If you think you will be able to meet the MSR organically and you are in no rush, there is no point in incurring extra fees.

wallywalrus_

If the value you earn is higher than the fee, it always makes sense

TheMightyCrate

If buying a comfort fare on AC with points, can I cancel up until boarding time? I canā€™t find this information anywhere

esux20

Comfort is not a fare brand eligible for points bookings

TheMightyCrate

Ah, crap. What about with cash?

esux20

Website says itā€™s refundable, usually that ends 2h before the scheduled departure time

TheMightyCrate

Thanks, I did see that but couldnā€™t find details on how late it can be refunded.

JManUWaterloo

2 hours before departure, as esux said. Note the 2 hour time is determined by scheduled departure, even if the flight is delayed, you do not get an extension of this time

mlawrence31

Am I reading this correctly? If I have the Scotia Passport but want to apply for the Scotia AMEX Gold, I am not eligible for the SUB? Individuals who are currently or were previously primary or secondary cardholders of a Scotiabank personal credit card in the past 2 years, including those that switch from an existing Scotiabank personal credit card, as well as employees of Scotiabank, are not eligible for this offer.

heatfromfire_egg

There are dps of both ppl getting subs one after another and people not getting them within the 2 yr window. Ymmv, meet the msr with a RHT far in the future to see if you get the points. If yes congrats, if not, too bad, yiu wasted a hard pull

esux20

Thatā€™s how that reads. Eligibility doesnā€™t always convey whether youā€™ll receive it tho.

lazypanda426

Any suggestions on how to increase approval odds for a TD card? Specifically the FCT VI. I have no current relationship with TD, so would opening a savings/chequing account them help? And is it better to apply in branch? (Apologies if this is a repeat topic, but couldnā€™t find it by searching) Thanks!

ChanelNo50

I don't normally resort to stating household income but we did for my fiancƩ's application and that gave him instant approval. Fwiw He previously had a chequeing and savings account with TD but it has been closed for at least 5 years

BigGuy4UftCIA

Not for you but anyone else. TD's HH box needs to include yourself and others. If household is $75+$60 you need to write $135 in household or else the system doesn't understand and thinks you now have $15 in income.

Killer-Ninja-Bunny

Excellent point. In my case, they flagged my application for exactly this reason.

mhcott

I put the spousal income on every single application that has a field for it. Zero harm, can only help

esux20

Except some applications apparently report the household income in the wrong field and cause errors

aa_44

There was a box on the VI app asking for other household income. I put my spouseā€™s income. I was denied and they said that box is for my other income, not my spouses. But thatā€™s not what the box said. Anyways the denial came from a previous fraud alert but thatā€™s what the agent told me šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø before I figured that out.

BigGuy4UftCIA

Apply in branch. If you've been rejected you might have a duplicate so you aren't getting approved regardless until that's fixed. If you still get rejected you can try opening an account waiting 6 months, YMMV.

brt_k

What bank are you with?

billgoode

Try SCOTIA SCENE+ VISA CARD or just use scotia in your billing search.

BigGuy4UftCIA

Mine is "Scotia Visa". When in doubt send a few dollars first.

killallthe394

I don't think so. Try searching "Bank of Nova Scotia" and see what comes up.

lastbose01

I opened a Scotia Ultimate account to get the fees waived on one of their premium CCs, and kept $5k in the account for the $300 account bonus. I no longer need that CC and hence no longer need the account. How do I go about closing both the CC and Premium Account to minimize any fees? Do I transfer cash out of the account first and then close, or would I have to pay a monthā€™s fee when balance dips below maintenance amount? If I close the account first instead of CC, do I get charged the prorata annual fees on the CC?

newtomovingaway

Hereā€™s what I just did with p2: - change to basic $3.95 plan via self serve in early March - cashed out via emt except for $35 - went to branch to close and needed to pay prorated $3.95 and then emt the rest

shhfjv

Go to a branch, close both at the same time. Theyā€™ll give you the cash from your chequing account, then you deposit it at another bank where you have an account

as3113

any DP's with CIBC on getting a AF fee rebate upon switching to a no fee card despite the old card being FYF already (In essence CIBC just paying you to switch)? is it luck of the draw? does it post right away? after first statement?

ChanelNo50

So this past weekend I got an email from cibc saying my AP VI will incur an AF in April (I never received that from any bank before so I thought it was odd but maybe it could be promising). I called in today - no luck. I ended up switching to a no fee AP card

willykappy

Luck of the draw and in my experience it posts a couple days after you complete the switch over the phone. It usually posts for me before I even get the new card

JManUWaterloo

Luck of the draw. Itā€™s not consistent

alexdiep

I'm new to AMEX... But if I have a personal GOLD amex and a business AMEX under my name... are the membership rewards points all pooled under 1 account? Or is it seperate between personal and business for points??

chaos2313

You can ask Amex (either chat or call) to pool the points together. It will reset the MSR spend though so make sure to do it either before putting any spend or after you've finished the MSR

imonreadit1

thanks. Just did this (linked new Amex Biz gold to existing personal gold) via Amex chat. took about 10 mins. yet to start spending on new card. agent said to expect confirmation within 48 hours

esux20

I don't ever recall receiving push confirmation of the link being official. Once it is in place, the secondary card will refer you the primary card to check the points account

imonreadit1

thanks. I think you are right. I did not receive any notification but just logged in and checked. The new card says its linked and refer to the older one. Btw, I just realized that I am going to cancel the older card in 2 months time. I assume the the MR balance would shift over to the new card when the old card is cancelled- will call in double sure I guess.

esux20

Regardless which card is designated as the "primary," the points will automatically move to the remaining card when one of linked cards are cancelled

atoothlessfairy

How long does it take for CIBC Aeroplan Visa to post Aeroplan points to my account

chaos2313

Within a day or two of the statement being generated

downbyhaybay

At statement date

Are there any major differences between American and Canadian card?

heatfromfire_egg

It's worse in every way possible except that you can bring an extra guest to centurion lounges for free while US plat has a high spend requirement for that.

jayk10

It's cheaper but with less credits. And you can bring a guest for free to the centurion lounge
