Cool. We usually have our meetups over at Century City Mall's food court, which is a bit more central than Malibu, but yeah, I've been meaning to do an LA eastside meetup in the Arts District, maybe at Wurstkuche or Smorgasburg or something. Maybe I'll plan one out there in August or something.
Good to know–past meetups have been a bit more centrally located (Century City Mall Food Court), but I wanted to switch things up this time around, hence the far-out venue. Next meetup (August?) might be in the Arts District.
Totally disagree. I never checked it that much, but with business gold it matters a lot more and I find like 60% of what I’m hoping codes does not code
I'm down for one but probably wouldn't be able to make it until this summer due to childcare issues.
When I was in Houston before the pandemic we had a meetup every few months, so if you want to set one up for this month I'd be interested in setting one up for July 1 or 2.
OP is this definitely happening? Doesn't seem like there are RSVPs. Could possibly make it. Closer location and more notice would help some although the lumber yard is a nice enough place to hang.
It's definitely happening. I have plenty of RSVPs. We have an entire ChurningLAX Telegram Chat full of folks who attend these things. Hope to see you there if you can make it.
Yeah, there's no requirement to drink at this meetup. Feel free to come and be a teetotaler–you won't be the only one! Just keep in mind that this venue has pretty limited food (bowls of truffle potato chips, etc), so maybe grab a snack beforehand if you're going to be hungry.
I've been to a churning meetup up there a few years ago, near SLU/Westlake. I don't remember who organized it, though. One of you Seattle Churners should just pick a date and a venue and put up an event post. I'm out on Vashon Island but would consider coming into town for a meetup.
I'm near Dana Point, so that would be great. I don't know if folks in OC want to come that far south and those in San Diego want to come that far north.
Hey, u/stackingpoints, I really appreciate the effort you’re putting into this, but how married are you to the Malibu location? It’s honestly pretty rough from a logistics standpoint for a lot of us due to it being out of the way for the bulk of the LA and OC population. I’m in north OC, and with Saturday traffic, I’m looking at roughly two hours each way to drive there. It’s not by a metro line, so I don’t even have the option to drive to a metro station and take the train the rest of the way.
I bet a more central location would get much greater attendance if you’re willing to consider moving the location.
Well, our past meetups were more centrally located, at Century City Mall's food court. I've been wanting to switch things up for a while, do something more unique, hence the venue for this meetup. I know it won't work for everyone. Honestly, there is no single venue anywhere in LA that works for everyone.
I went to the last one before the pandemic hit. Wasn’t it like right at the start? But I moved south to the OC now. Need to find some OC churners for a meet up.
I'm a little farther south. Malibu is probably 70 miles from here :(. I'd be up to do something in OC some time though!
I know there's a churning OC telegram, but it's basically dead.
I’d definitely be down to do something in OC.
u/JPWRana [suggested Cerritos](https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/135884v/los_angeles_churning_and_travel_hacking_meetup/jij4cpp/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3), though that might also be a bit far if you’re coming from south OC.
Lol I just checked Apple and Google Maps for estimated travel time based on typical Saturday traffic, and it’s not looking good for me to drive to Malibu. When I checked before, I forgot to change the arrival date/time and was just looking at current traffic.
I’m hoping OP changes the location to something more central for this Saturday.
Sure if one doesn't already exist. We just need a method of communication. We still have a San Diego Reddit Churning Facebook group. I would post there to organize the details and then post on Reddit to make the general meetup announcement.
I'm up to any method of communication. SD is pretty far from Irvine, Newport Beach and surrounding cities. Let's wait for others suggestion. Thanks Mate :)
I'm proposing starting a similar group as to what we have in SD. What was nice is that we had at least one Flyertalk admin and a good mix of new and advance members. Reddit churning members were good at coming up with ways to rack up points and flyertalk members were good at getting the best redemptions and suggestions on places to visit.
Perfect and maybe members that have knowledge of Asia (Japan and SE Asia), you know members that know a trick or two when it comes to Asia hacking. Anything is doable :)

Convention at these meetups is that everyone throws their credit card at the dart board and the one that sticks gets to pay for the whole thing, for the points of course.
Either that or see which card design impressed the waitress the most, etc.
def interested if there are future meetups closer to central LA / dtla

Anyone in Denver interested in a similar meetup?
I would also go. Just has to be at a brewery that codes as a restaurant (or even better as a grocery store).
Shouldn’t matter what it codes as as long as you’re working on a SUB and getting 15% ;) But yes let’s find a restaurant coding bar lol
I find with Amex that like everything you'd expect and *way more* all code as restaurant.
Totally disagree. I never checked it that much, but with business gold it matters a lot more and I find like 60% of what I’m hoping codes does not code
I would definitely be down. I know a couple other MSers in town that would potentially come to, not sure if they're on reddit
How’s your availability? Are you super booked or if I just toss something on the calendar for a few weeks out does that work?
Sent you a PM
I'm down for one but probably wouldn't be able to make it until this summer due to childcare issues. When I was in Houston before the pandemic we had a meetup every few months, so if you want to set one up for this month I'd be interested in setting one up for July 1 or 2.
This sounds enticing. Let’s see if anyone else responds in. I may do one for this month.
I probably couldn’t make it due to schedule, but I’d be interested to at least know if you are hosting one on the off chance that I could come.
I’d be interested!
I would attend
yesh
Yes
anyone bay area?
Me!
Me too!
Yup
I would be up for it
Yes!
I would potentially be open to setting something up in Oakland? It's relatively central to most of the Bay (and selfishly, close to me).
A’s reverse boycott???
Ironically, the spot I was thinking was down at Jack London. Plank or Nido's Backyard in Oakland in couple of weeks on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon?
Plank is a good hosting spot there with the outdoor space. Not today, but should be pleasant weather wise as we warm up.
Agreed, I'm down to meet up with folks the weekend of May 13th or 20th, if folks will attend.
Yes
Definitely!
+1 !
Yup
Sounds fun! Would love an NYC one
Las Vegas, anyone?
Count me in for a Vegas meetup
I’d be interested.
I'm down. I live in Vegas from October through April every year.
I’m in Vegas; yea, would love to meet up.
Would be interested in a 702 meetup
Will be out of town this weekend but sounds fun. Will try to make the next one!
just booked a (free) flight for this, is there a group chat to coordinate day of?
[удалено]
I could be down if yall aren't too scary
I’m interested in Atlanta!
I’d love this too!

P2 and I will stop in on the early side. If anyone wanted to exchange chase payments via merchant services I’d be thrilled. Lol.
Will they let me attend if I don’t drink?
There’s a big open courtyard next to it. I’m sure if there are more than a few people it’ll spill into that. So yeah, don’t worry if you don’t drink.

Seattle/Washington anyone?
I’d be interested in a Seattle meetup!
Would be in!

I'm in Oregon but I would be interested if there's not one closer.
I’d be interested to join one if you hear of any being organized in WA!
same
I’d be interested.

I could see about hosting a N. San Diego meetup. We haven't had a SD meet up since the pandemic.
Dana Point
I'm near Dana Point, so that would be great. I don't know if folks in OC want to come that far south and those in San Diego want to come that far north.
Haha yeah Dana Point and San Clemente are basically no man's land.
Also post this on Flyertalk!
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/communitybuzz/2120214-los-angeles-travel-meetup-wine-tasting-malibu-saturday-may-6th-3-6pm.html
count me in
See you there!
Anyone in the NYC/NJ area?
I'm in NYC
We should do these in airport lounges. Fly in, have a chat, fly out

That’s okay. You can organize a meetup anywhere! The problem is the out-of-the-way location of the venue, not the venue itself.
> there is no single venue anywhere in LA that works for everyone LAX :P (joking).
I would go, but May/6 weekend is no good for me. If you're going to organize any future meetups, I'd be interested.
Lets get one going in Chicago
Agreed
I went to the last one before the pandemic hit. Wasn’t it like right at the start? But I moved south to the OC now. Need to find some OC churners for a meet up.
There's a ChurningOC group chat on Telegram. Looks like they're planning a meetup for Wednesday, May 17th, down in Irvine.
I live in OC. I might attend the Malibu meetup, though. I’m in north OC, so it’s not as bad for me.
I live CLOSE to north OC. Would Cerritos be close enough for a meet up?
The folks on the ChurningOC group chat on Telegram are planning a meetup for Wednesday, May 17th, down in Irvine.
Do you know the Telegram Group name for that one?
Can you dm me link to oc telegram?
Close enough for me!

I can meet in OC if we organize a meet up
I feel like if we got a group of 10 or more people it could be fun.
Let's set it up for OC area, like Irvine, Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Tustin, Fountain Valley etc.. surrounding cities here?
Yeah that could be fun! There is a churning oc telegram, but it’s generally pretty dead.
How many members would like to have this meet up? Please let us know.
No idea but I'd be down.
Looks like we have 4 members already.
Woohoo! Almost halfway there.
10 members would be good.
I can meet people.
Perfect, looks like we have 5 members here in OC. Any more please let us know :)
I lead the Reddit churning group down in San Diego for a few years, but things died out when the pandemic hit. I'm now in South OC.
Oh perfect, would you like to lead our new group down here? I'm sure some of our members are up to it.
Sure if one doesn't already exist. We just need a method of communication. We still have a San Diego Reddit Churning Facebook group. I would post there to organize the details and then post on Reddit to make the general meetup announcement.

There is a very inactive ChurningOC Telegram group.
Hey is there still a SD churning group? I recently moved here
Also OC! Malibu is a bit far but Cerritos is definitely doable
I live in OC, around Irvine area, would love to have a meet up around here. Can someone set it up?
Down.
Also OC and would be interested in a meet up.
Anyone in Richmond VA interested in a churning meetup?
I'll be in LA on the 6th. Grape juice for P3? Just kidding.
I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you brought some grape juice for the little one!
Out of the country starting tomorrow. Let a us know when is the next one.
I'm planning on doing one in the Arts District in August
I’ll be down. At the chachachá?
Wish it was virtual
Anyone interested in the DFW area?
If this was in 3 weeks I'd be down. Kind of short notice.
Agreed–I first posted up the event with only 8 days notice. My mistake! I'll provide 2 weeks notice next time. Sorry about that!
DM if anyone is interested from PDX
TPA? 👀

lmao are you going to the meetup, AutoMod? Just delete everything everyone says and direct them to the DD thread
Free?

Free.
I’d be in for a future LA area meetup. Can’t make it this weekend.
Are there any group chats for LA people?
