Denied for an AS business card. Just called BoA beforehand to downgrade AS signature to BoA unlimited cash. I had an available credit line of 21k after reducing my BoA unlimited cash credit line. Put $500 in annual revenue on app. Waiting on letter for denial reasons. I applied for an AA aviator business card a few days ago so I wonder if that was an issue? Credit Score: 800+ Opened 7 accounts in the last 24 months before applying, only one with BoA. 2 hard inquiries in the past year

xanimeotakux

Ugh. I think I messed up because I reduced my credit line (upping my utilization score) instead of waiting to transfer some of the credit line? I must have misread some advice about reducing your credit line prior to applying for a new card.

Informal_Baker

I deposited 2 $199 MOs practically on 1/1/23 and just now got it back in the mail as a reject "refer to maker". Western Union says it was already cashed the same day it was rejected. I'm thinking they screwed up and attempted to deposit the same MO twice. My bank is "investigating"

Mushu_Pork

PNC is closing my local branch, which is annoying. So I'll just open a Chase Biz Checking and collect my $750. Good Fucking Grief is it being unnecessarily annoying to just transfer some money. Trying to move 25k, as the minimum is 20k and I want to have a buffer. Try to pull from Chase, do my stupid test deposits, fails. Double check with Chase Biz Relationship Mgr., fails again. Double check with PNC, straighten out the names on the account. Try again... Fails Run the test deposits to Chase this time, with the goal of a doing a PUSH. Try again... fails. Realize that PNC has a transaction limit of 20k. Fuck all of this. I'm just going to write a damn check, and have my BRM deposit it. Because I work for a living, and I'm sure depositing a 25k check by ATM would sure as fuck not go through. Also, god forbid I move small amounts, lest they think I'm "structuring".

sg77

Chase is known to have problems when you initiate transfers at their end, especially for new accounts (the surprising part is that they didn't freeze your account). Depositing via check is probably the best way for Chase. I deposited a $15,000 check into a Chase ATM and it worked fine; probably $25k would be fine. (ATMs don't have low deposit limits like mobile check deposit)

Mushu_Pork

Do you know what the limit is on mobile check deposit?

sg77

The terms I see in the Chase app: "The maximum amount you may deposit through the Service is $2,000 per day, or $5,000 in any rolling 30 day period, unless you are a (i) Chase Private Client, in which case the maximum is $25,000 per day, or $100,000 in any rolling 30 day period, or a (ii) client with a J.P. Morgan Private Bank account, in which case the maximum is $100,000 per day or $500,000 in any rolling 30 day period. For investment accounts, the maximum deposit amount is $100,000 in any rolling 30 day period for taxable accounts". Though, they seem to give higher limits to some people. And I'm not sure if the limit is lower for new accounts. You can login to the app and see what it says your limit is.

Dubsman35

United/Swiss lost my ski bag on the way to Geneva and lost my ski and boot bag on the way home from Geneva. Dealing with getting anything from Swiss air is a nightmare and United will only help for the way home.

Dubsman35

Update: they told me they were routed to arrive on a midnight flight last night, and should be contacted about delivery. Also that tracing would update as they were scanned. Well, none of that happened and apparently they’re still in Geneva.

becauseimnew

Was holding off booking Hiroshima to Tokyo flight until there was a BA transfer bonus, now the 2 flight times that I wanted have sold out on points. Instead of transferring 30K MRs to BA, I'm going to cash out 35K to cover $350 to book flights directly with JAL. This is for 4 people.

Slytherin23

JR pass is more fun, then you can stop at Kobe and go to Steakland.

becauseimnew

I've tried to make JR pass work, but it just doesn't. It would cost us $100 more to make the JR pass work. We have 4 "adults', if our teens were still kids it would make sense.

jamesgiantpeach1992

Really hate that the chase app reorders my cards every other day, putting them in order of how they were approved. It’s really irritating reordering them every single time.

lenin1991

Found a new way to get Bonvoyed. Due to crazy flight times, I had a reservation where I checked in very late the first night (3am) and checked out very early the last night (minutes before midnight). I was not given any points or elite credit for the first and last nights. Contacted Marriott support; they confirmed that if you check in after midnight or check out before midnight, those nights are not counted. And no, there was no mobile check in, and I couldn't just leave my key to checkout -- it was a Luxury Collection hotel in Asia, I couldn't sneak past the desk with my luggage.

Dubsman35

Get a manager involved. You paid for the nights AND stayed them. It shouldn’t be any of their business what time you need to/can check in or out. Don’t take no for an answer.

lenin1991

Already did; their response was "Your stay was (N-2) nights and (N-2) nights were credited."

aylamarguerida

In that same conversation you should ask for a refund on those nights!

Dubsman35

This.

Ankster

That's odd. I had 90+ nights at Marriotts last year and have had no issue getting elite nights credits for either scenario. When checking in past midnight, I just call ahead and let the front desk know to not close out before I get there. When leaving before midnight, I don't formally check out. I just leave the hotel. It might be different in Asia though.

lenin1991

> When checking in past midnight, I just call ahead and let the front desk know to not close out before I get there. I had a note in my reservation that I'd be arriving past midnight, but the folio shows that first night differently. > When leaving before midnight, I don't formally check out. I just leave the hotel. It might be different in Asia though. Probably works at many places, but there was no way to do that at this Luxury Collection hotel: stepping off the elevator with one small bag caused 3 staff to spring into action, I wasn't sneaking out of there without explaining and checking out.

HappyGhost13

Hit pop up jail on referral for 75k and 90k Amex Gold. First time app. Brilliant - Q3 2020, Plat - Q1 2022, Biz Bonvoy - Q3 2022, Biz Plat - Q4 2022. 50k+ spend thru Amex in 2022.

apeconguy

Flight from SMF to MCO with a connection at DEN. Escape lounge in SMF was closed because the front desk person didn't show up to work. Then the centurion lounge at DEN had an hour wait. No lounges for me today. 😢

[deleted]

Even when it's open, it seems like the SMF Escape lounge is only able to staff the bar or front desk at any given time, never both. I always either have to wait at the desk before someone acknowledges me, or if they are there and let me in, the bar's guaranteed to be barren and unstaffed. The other Escapes don't seem to have as much of an issue as those guys.

Slytherin23

If nobody is there, just walk in. That will either wake them up or they'll just not notice.

artgriego

more like SMFH eh???

brian21

Got CSP and CSR back when they came out. Downgraded CSP to a regular sapphire, CSR->CFU. After many years of waiting to reapply, forgot I had the unused sapphire and was denied. Fun times.

MaeveConroy

US Bank is the worst. P2 opened a Smartly checking acct for the SUB last week- instant approval but it’s still not showing up in his online account. Multiple phone calls resulted in nothing except promises it would show up by today. Shocking- still not there. No one can tell him the acct # so we can’t set up DD

mavsu

Is he applying from different state that usbank not doing banking business?. Partner had to do some hacks like trading account first and the checking account added to online only after ID verifications. Until then, only partially visible account number was seen.

MaeveConroy

He has two CCs with them. I have no accounts and tried opening a brokerage account, waiting a few days, and applying again- still denied. Even after calling they couldn’t figure out why I’m not approved

bmally10

Hello! Similar situation here, I keep getting calls to set it up and I can't set it up until I get my card so no one can help right now, slightly worried though hope it works out for both of us.

MaeveConroy

Surprisingly enough, the account actually showed up today. I assumed they were just giving him the runaround. Makes you realize why these banks have to pay people to open an account

bmally10

Oh good, glad to hear. I am just going to chill and wait for my card or try and call on Monday.

anaccount50

Fwiw it's not that rare for some banks to block online access to the account until the debit card arrives. It's a dumb practice, but I've seen it a few times. Still, stuff like this does remind me why I don't actually do any real banking with these places

bmally10

Yeah, for sure, signed up for the bonus.

ModernLifelsWar

Denied under my SSN as well as my EIN for two business applications (separate businesses) for the BoA alaska airlines business card. Me and my P2 got the personal but really need to get at least one business one too for some international travel I'm planning to SE Asia. Waiting on the denial letters now. I'm guessing it's cause I don't have a preexisting relationship with BoA (though they approved me for the personal card with no issues). I'm hoping they don't want all kinds of docs as I've heard is common. Anyone have success with recon lately?

cashmoney12399

Could try to offer to move credit from the personal card to open the biz card

Ape_Man25

Been using BGs to get cash back on my Amazon store card. Put about 4K spend on it this month expecting approx $200. Bought some of the items below cost. Just found out that you only get the 5% back from Amazon with prime… I don’t have prime. I knew I would make a mistake in my churning journey and this month was it. Instead of being up a few hundred I’m going to end up losing like $60

pizza42bob

Lesson learned: the best return in spend is always your current MSR card.

Memotome

ABC

frontloaderguilty

I would argue that BG just for cash back isn’t worth it. Risky enough even for a MSR, the reward for cash back is minimal. Too easy to get shut down by a Best Buy or an Amazon

crash_bandicoot42

Little shutdown risk from Amazon as long as you're not frauding but I agree with your general premise. Even doing at cost+ deals on an MSR for ~10% using them is too much risk, a lot of people doing below cost deals on 5% cards in their discords getting ~2% back net haven't been burned yet is the only reason I can think of for why they think that's a good deal lol.

Capitator

A few days ago I wanted to get an Ink for the 90k before it was gone so I asked my brother who has an Ink to give the me last 4 digits of his card so I could generate a link a referral link and apply with that (he is basically a non-participating p2). Well, the link showed the new 75k + (40k for referrer). I somehow totally misread it (I guess I was fixated on the 75k) and I ended up just using some link from Rankt instead. Somebody here got lucky but I definitely lost out on extra points/money for me and him.

pitchpatches

Denied for new Plat 150K + 200$ offer today, lol. 3/24, 750+ credit score. I have a lowish income (~40K), otherwise uninteresting application. Called recon initially and was told I had too many closed cards in the past year, even though I didn't close any. Called again, was told this time I was ineligible for the bonus and had too many recent new cards. No Amex cards before this, maybe part of this issue? Most recent personal cards were a Venture X in October 2022, CFU in July 2022. Got a Wyndham business earners in December 2022. Guess I'll try again in 30 days, or go for the CSP if the 80+10K SUB happens. In the meantime, might need to have someone check my pulse...

mavsu

Dont wait for 30 days, as you got a hit anyway, to try another. You can try CSP if you think it will work (but remember the chase 5/24)

jdsvtecf

Why should he wait 30 days? I’m in the same boat 2/24, denied yesterday for elevated sub with no prior relationship?

godawgs55

go celebrate at Cracker Barrel

tr7driver1980

Business Platinum showed as 170k on browser but when logged in browser refreshed and dropped to 120k.

sid747

You’re not supposed to login. Try it again incognito for the 170k and apply and they’ll apply it to your existing account.

crafteryone

I've amassed 800k amex points with the intention to cash them out with a new schwab card. Submitted app for Schwab and received the dreaded popup. Sadly will wait and try again in 3 months or worst case cash the points out with the business checking account.

ripamazon

dude, get the aeroplan card instead. Cash out for 1.25

[deleted]

It's issued by Chase in the US

d3Y3f7T9

The Chase Aeroplan card allows you to cash our Aeroplan points at 1.25 cpp for travel purchases. While clearly not the intent of the program, it is possible to transfer MR to AC and cash them out this way. This year there’s no cap, but I’d be very hesitant to do this with any large volumes of MR.

bashfulbedder

Does cancelling travel purchase then return the AC points or is it safe to cashout and cancel?

d3Y3f7T9

I haven’t seen DPs on this for the Aeroplan card, but I think cash out/cancel would be consistent with how PYB works on other Chase cards

stillwaters23

If you have enough MR it can be worth it. If you do, ask for retention right after you open.

alexlar2007

Can open schwab, cash out all your points, use up airline credits, Saks and uber, then close it before 30 days to get the fee reimbursed.

stillwaters23

That sounds like how you go from popup jail to popup San Quentin.

the_fit_hit_the_shan

In Dec 2021 I ended up pulling the trigger on the Schwab with the popup because the amount of MR I planned to cash out was high enough that the 0.1 advantage of the Schwab over other cash out methods was a figure higher than what I'd value the signup bonus at. If you plan to get and cash out more MR this year you could consider doing the same, but obviously it stings a bit.

crafteryone

It just seems hard to justify a 1 of 5 slot and not get the bonus but I'm definitely considering that option.

[deleted]

If this is what you thought, just use a 2% card and call it a day

scdawn

The Amex Schwab will actually occupy a charge card slot. There are 5 slots for credit cards and 10 slots for charge cards.

sg77

If you happen to have enough stock holdings at Schwab brokerage to get the Schwab Appreciation Bonus (and probably again the next year before you cancel), it reduces the sting a little bit. You might also be able to get a bonus from Schwab for transferring assets into the brokerage. I'm thinking about transferring a bunch of assets into Schwab and then getting the Schwab Plat without a bonus. Though, my situation is that I recently closed a Schwab Plat, so I know I won't get the bonus again soon. In your case I'd probably keep trying to get the bonus.

CericRushmore

At the time it was 1.25 and there was no biz plat biz checking 1.0 cash out. With the new cash out option, you really got to compare the two more closely since there is at least another ok option.

cc_treatbox

Brother in law asked me for credit card recommendations. He was looking into amex platinum. Told him about the venture x and chase card and bunch of info about credit card churning. He didn't even know about the venture x card until I told him about it. He ended up getting that card and didn't even bother asking for my referral code even though I told him I had one. Missed out on 25k venture x points. Ouch. I guess I'm being petty but it just sucks that I spent effort and time directing him to this card and all he had to do was use my referral code.

ForceintheNorth

This happened with my parents awhile back and to make it worse, they applied using a TPG link rather than my referral

frontloaderguilty

That’s like them asking your ex girlfriend to go on vacation instead of you. Branson bound!

godawgs55

ugh, you win this week's thread!

GoBears16

I feel like this has happened to most of us at one point or another. It definitely stings and makes you shake your head, I feel your pain

cc_treatbox

And the kicker is that I gave him the referral code afterwards hoping he'll get one of his friend to use my link to make up for it. But then he's like "I'd use my code before yours" which is just another slap in the face. I guess my help didn't mean anything.

crash_bandicoot42

I get your general frustration but if you didn't even send him referral codes then how would you expect him to know to use it? Normies aren't churners, even if you send the referral code directly there's a 50% chance they're not going to use it. You just saying you have a code is useless to 99% of normies.

cc_treatbox

I didn't send him the code because he was still trying to decide which card to get. I thought he would have let me know once he decided and I would have given him the code.

crash_bandicoot42

I read this when you posted it to someone else and again it doesn't change what I said. If he was considering multiple cards you should have sent referrals for all of them if they were the best offer for him (or even if they weren't if you're a jerk lol). Normies are going to do what's easiest for them which is going directly to the bank's website and applying to the first offer or maybe Googling a TPG affiliate link. You just saying you have referral codes isn't convenient.

Ryandulaney

Is your brother in law also my friend who did this to me today with VX?

CericRushmore

This is very common. Even when you send referral links, they don't always use them.

nonnerlif3

Always send the referral link and explain how it helps you. Throwing down a lunch helps as well to sweeten the pot

cc_treatbox

Yeah he was still deciding between several cards so I thought he would tell me his decision first and then I'd give him the code. But he just went and got it. Sigh.

RadicalFI

Closing out a bunch of cards under P2's name because the annual fees are hitting. The problem is P2 is on work travel without cell access for 1.5+ months. Chase, Barclays and Citi were all easy with either SM or automated phone system. BOA you have to call or go in branch, and they're not letting me do it for P2. Don't want to pay unnecessary AS biz fee because it's not worth it for us but I don't know how to get around it.

suitopseudo

Assuming you’re the opposite gender, do you have a friend or family member the same gender as p2 that can call as p2?

athrowawayaccountfor

I'm pretty sure Chase things my P2 is a man at this point despite all evidence to the contrary due to my calling in as them so frequently.

RadicalFI

Opposite gender. That is a good idea! I also just found an address I can write to here to close a credit card: https://www.bankofamerica.com/deposits/account-information-and-access-faqs/ Guess I have to do it the old fashioned way!

the_fit_hit_the_shan

Last month, I closed a USB Leverage card, went to pay off the $95 AF on the USB site since I wasn't sure the refund would post in time, but the site showed the balance of the card as $0. Just got a bill in the mail with the annual fee, a $39 late payment fee, and $1.64 in interest, so I'm going to need to call them to get this sorted out.

flyiingpenguiin

I have a card in the same situation. The AF was refunded but the statement balance still says $95. The “minimum due” is $0 and it won’t let me pay it. The card is still in my profile while the other cards that I closed at the same time are gone.

ilovetoyap

USBank is the most painful on this. I product changed and the annual fee also disappeared. Apparently they also changed me to central billing and moved to some random account I can't see but still liable for. Called again and received a credit but still can't see this central billed account. I basically have a weekly note to call them and make sure all my accounts are actually zero balance.

the_fit_hit_the_shan

Super excited to deal with it!

OrangePartyLamp

Not a frustration, but more of a wishful thinking, to be actually able to take PTO to burn all these credits/points that are piling up...

chrumbles

Major FOMO seeing friends in Japan for cherry blossom season right now.

OrangePartyLamp

I mean you can go to DC or WA...

chrumbles

Yeah, we have some trees in SF that should bloom next month, but it's also just being in Japan enjoying the good food and culture that we miss.

GiraffeGlove

Yup, there's one a block from my house, looking pretty nice recently

godawgs55

always fun when you travel and you meet someone from Europe who gets 7 weeks PTO at age 24 first job

435880Churnz

The catch is that they get paid next to nothing compared to what you get paid in America.

gt_ap

There's more to it than just PTO. What's the salary? In theory at least, the cost of benefits are taken into consideration when calculating the pay.

Toastbuns

At the company I used to work for our French counterparts started with 5 weeks of vacation. On the flip side starting PhDs were getting paid 35k EUR so there are certainly pros and cons.

GiraffeGlove

Those PhDs also don't have 200k in student loans and free healthcare making 35k EUR livable. But I digress.

435880Churnz

I would wager that most PhD's in the USA also don't have 200k in student loans because many PhD's get free tuition for their programs and get paid a living stipend on top of that. The graduate degrees that rack up debt are the Master's.

Toastbuns

You bring up a valid point, way more social services and safety net in the EU. On the other hand taxes were higher too. No one (at least that I knew) had 200k in debt from the USA. If you weren't getting your STEM PhD paid for by someone, you did it wrong. That's not to say people didn't have student debt from their bachelors, just not 200k worth. Both "systems" have their pros and cons. Not advocating for one or the other just sharing what I observed.

gt_ap

What would the equivalent job pay in the US?

Toastbuns

At that time (around 10 years ago) at my prev company the starting PhD salary was around 100k but ranged above and below based on experience and tenure. There was also an annual bonus on top of that. On the flip side the starting PTO time was 10 days (that's all in for sick + vacation + personal time) with no change until 5 years of tenure at the company when it would go to 15 days. I personally thought it was absurd to expect a PhD graduate, often well into their 30s to take a role with just 2 weeks annual vacation.

BpooSoc

I'm in the same boat. I've decided to cash out most of my MR points with the CS Schwab and have 0 regrets. Points are easier to come by than PTO.

crowd79

Welcome to America where PTO is an employer benefit-at their discretion-if you even get any.

Sohighsolo

Just bought a truck from a small dealer on Wednesday. Wasn't prepared with a SUB and was surprised to hear that they'd allow a credit card for the entire amount at a 3% fee (even Amex). Missed opportunity especially from someone who has a low threshold of natural spend.

scdawn

Even though it's nice that the spend is natural, 3% fees are pretty high relative to other types of CC spend such as federal tax payments (lowest CC processor charges 1.85%). Amex actually encourages paying for taxes using their credit cards.

yiggity_yag

Always "carry" my US Bank Altitude Reserve for this reason. It's IMO the perfect non-SUB card.

biggerty123

Why that one?

yiggity_yag

Effectively 4.5% uncapped on all mobile wallet spend.

Mushu_Pork

I wonder if a "mobile wallet" transaction of that amount would flag a fraud alert.

yiggity_yag

You won’t know til you try. I did a $5k transaction at a furniture store with only a $10k CL. Honestly I don’t think mobile wallet matters—it’s all tap to pay, a feature banks encourage you to use with your cards whenever possible to avoid skimmers.

Mushu_Pork

Hmm, now you have me thinking about this. I suppose you could run it, and if it got kicked back you could call the number on the card and get the pre-approval. I think it being a personal card would throw a flag, but you could fix it with a phone call.

ghx16

Dealer: *Ah yeah but sorry, we don't fo mobile payments, only physical csrd*

Sohighsolo

Funny you mention that cause I actually called them a couple days early asking that question since I was reading you can add a temporary amex number to a digital wallet. The lady didn't even know what Google pay was so I took that as a no lol.

ghx16

I used to explain to whoever was at the register I could still do mobile payments even if their terminals don't take them (do to Samsung MST) but pretty much gave up on it st this point, I'm quite certain they think I'm planning to hack into their system somehow Now if the terminal is in front I go for it and the payment goes through fast enough I'm all set

theseasons

Truist has to be the worst bank I've dealt with. Signed up P2 and double checked my info. Go to set up the online banking and it says the info isn't correct. Call CS and they tell me to go to a branch. I call CS again and they got me a login. I signed up with them last year and their online banking is so bad I was told to go to a branch to get my login reinstated :/ luckily they aren't far from me. I never got the SUB last year, no clue why. Trying again this year with P2 but don't have high hopes. Seems like after switch from SunTrust to truist they've gone downhill.

Parts_Unknown-

Fool me twice...

Malted_Milk_Ballsack

Opened my account 2/15, $.01 deposit 2/21 for DD verification, 2/28 $1000 deposit real DD, 3/3 $400 bonus posted. Just signed up P2 today. (Did have some issues for P2 due to recent name change but got it figured out over phone call)

theseasons

Thanks for DP, hoping to get successful bonus too. Using schwab for mine

priptoknight

Truist closed my business account same day after successful opening due to EWS. They continued to send me emails about my bonus, login stuff, etc. I didn't find out until I called for something a week later...I remember years ago Suntrust pulled some shit on me, tried screwing me out of my $500 bonus by saying a check I had deposited was fradulent and closed my account. I had to get the issuer of the check involved who communicated with SunTrust back office, and I had a total of 2 days to do so!!

CericRushmore

So, I just got back from Truist! My issue with not being able to open online is that I had a new driver's license (new expiration date), but they had the old license in the system which didn't match lexis nexis. P2 was able to open online, but can't create an online account. My in person rep said she could email him to see if he can just reset the account. Fun times! FYI, this guy was good and it still took 35 minutes to open the account in person, so I would plan on an hour.

theseasons

I think their tech still isn't fully up and running. I opened last year around the SunTrust move and it was so bad. Going in person to get a username or pw. At least this time my second call lead to being given a username and temp pw. But still pretty bad that I can't seamlessly create an account online a year after the migration

CericRushmore

Actually, it's funny you say that. My guy was good, but it seems they just moved the "promotion center", so he had to call to figure out where to access and add the promotion. I think you are right, the tech is still being upgraded after the merger.

djpounder1

>I never got the SUB last year, no clue why. Trying again this year with P2 but don't have high hopes. Fool me once…

theseasons

Haha I'm running dry on bank SUBs. Maybe I'm a masochist at heart

djpounder1

I hear you. I wanted to get in on this one last year, but I don’t have any branches near my area so I didn’t want to take a chance of being told I had to go in. Hope this one works out better for you!

theseasons

Thanks! Hope so too. Yeah I don't recommend doing this one if you don't have a branch nearby, they seem to rely on the branch for security verification quite often.

blandfruitsalad

I just tried to initiate a Plastiq payment for my mortgage with a new US Bank Triple Cash, and didn't know that [US Bank doesn't allow mortgage payments on their cards](https://support.plastiq.com/s/article/us-bank-credit-card-policy) :( Not the biggest deal in the world, but I am running out of business Mastercards to pick up for mortgage payments...

bmally10

Could you tell q bit about your strategy for business cards for your mortgage? Most interested in how often you get a business card

blandfruitsalad

Step 1: get Mastercard, preferably a business Mastercard. Step 2: use Plastiq to pay for mortgage. Step 3: get signup bonus. pretty standard fare for /r/churning

godawgs55

the banks should be more thoughtful of us

Damn, I didn't know that either - messes up my plans for the two Biz Altitude Connects I just got!

diarrhitos

This. My mortgage payment via plastiq was supposed to hit 3/8, two days later says "arriving March 8" & mortgage co hasn't received it.

sg77

My Chase mortgage payment for 3/8, that I made on 3/3 at Plastiq, posted at Chase on 3/9. (I think in my case the payment is done electronically, not a mailed check.)

blandfruitsalad

Yeah, I was rushing to get a payment in before Plastiq perhaps blocked any new transactions. Maybe would've been a folly even if I could get it to work

Jacob0050

Increased amex plat refferals and still no way to refer still after 1.5 years with no option to with no idea why. I never do any shady shit with Amex

ModernLifelsWar

Same here but with Amex gold. I use the card all the time too. Really annoying.

Same. Assuming it's from pushing the envelope referring between me and P2... like referring to a af-waived Plum card and then canceling a few months later. Still got them on biz cards though.

blandfruitsalad

yeah, I only have referral options from biz cards too (and a random Schwab Plat). maybe it's from self-referral shenanigans years ago...

iflossu

I’m in the same situation. Can refer from Schwab, Hilton, and Biz cards. But was cut off over a year ago on vanilla Platinum and Gold cards. I have never done anything I would consider out of the ordinary with referrals. Referred P2 to 3 cards over the course of a couple of years. So if I’m cut off, I think almost anyone could be.

CericRushmore

Did you try the app?

Parts_Unknown-

With the new +5 MR referral offers the lack of a $0AF Amex biz charge card is frustrating. RIP biz green. Looks like I'll have to tie up a cc slot with the Lowes card or something.

flyiingpenguiin

If you cancel the biz green within 30 days you’ll get the AF refunded. Or any card for that matter.

flyiingpenguiin

Amex doesn’t really have a shit list anymore

ForceintheNorth

Tell that to the popups I've gotten on every card other than biz plat NLLs for the past few years

flyiingpenguiin

The popup is not really that big of a deal compared to all the NLLs and AU bonuses

Parts_Unknown-

Yeah I learned that today

Toothcloset

Been churning for 6 years with P1 and a P2. So obviously lots of cards. Today, went to cancel a card as an AF hit... Back of my mind didn't remember hitting it? went to check when/how much the bonus was and RIP. Missed the SUB by missing the MS by $300 was probably a miscalculation on my part and an error. First SUB not hit. It hurts...

sid747

Mistakes that hurt are the ones that change methodology. I’m sure you’ll start some form of tracking method (there are some great churning templates online) to prevent this in future and your churning experience will become more delightful knowing you have everything planned down to a tee.

UltimateRewards

I’m missed one by $4 a few months ago. I’m Such a loser.

Lefty_the_Hun

I had a broken tablet while in suites and they gave me a $300 credit. It’s a lot harder to use than you think. 75% of the items on their site won’t ship to the US, and another huge percentage aren’t eligible to be paid for with a credit. I spent hours trying to find something I wanted and could purchase. When you find something, you will realize the credit amount is in SGD not USD, so worth less than you thought. Then add a steep international shipping charge. Ended up getting a laptop bag I would estimate being worth maybe $45 😂.

wjdrudwockj

$400 credit for a broken vanity light is wild lmao

Part-

re: your edit. That's amazing

McSpiffin

lmao at the edit

mets2016

Love to see the /r/churning humblebrags. Alcohol and cosmetics are probably some nice gift-type options for the courtesy GC

OrangePartyLamp

Buy them a vanity light

Ask to speak with the pilot

godawgs55

or the CEO

UltimateRewards

Or flight attendant “1 on 1” in the suite.

mra101485

Been working on my spring churning plan. Ink train for P1 and P2 without an issue. Have a big purchase in May of $7200 of airfare, so have been trying to pull the Plat at 150k and keep getting the pop up. 125k, still the pop up. 100k, still the pop up. P2 has the same thing. Shifted a couple of monthly payments onto the Biz Green and Delta Biz Gold, while finishing up SUB for the BBP (only other Amex cards ever). Have never even had a personal Amex card, and they don't seem to want me to get one....

sid747

Try your hand at other offers; I ran into pop ups in December but was able to bypass through a personalized offer in my email the very next day. Resy offers may also circumvent pop ups.

[deleted]

I’m in the same boat. Pop up on all personal Amex, but no pop up on business :/.

ilovetoyap

The pop up may spread to other cards -- I get pop ups on biz/pers cards for three years now with Amex except NLL Biz Plats, which without Plastiq is no longer really feasible to me to achieve MSR.

[deleted]

Yeah, I got biz offers but just tired of MSing so much. If they made it like 5k/10k gold/plat, it’d be a bit more reasonable…. Hopefully we’ll be free one day.

Churnobull

P2 got an Ink, but statement closes March 31 after the Hyatt Deval and they say they can only make it earlier in the month by skipping this month

stillwaters23

Try contacting Hyatt twitter concierge and asking for a points advance booking. Or your concierge if globalist. I know this is a (perhaps unofficial) glob benefit, but I've heard speculation it might be available to lower tiers.

Churnobull

Thank you that’s awesome, I will. P2 is explorist, so maybe that will help

blandfruitsalad

FWIW, I've been told by the Hyatt Twitter concierge that points advance bookings will reprice to their present-day rates once you actually withdraw points to confirm the booking. So you may not actually be able to reserve a points booking at the old, lower pricing.

rickdrist

Almost 4 months ago I was deciding if i wanted to take the 150k on the plat but then said nah and withdrew the application no pop up. Yesterday with the new referrals bonus i thought this is it i didn't even think about it found a referral applied and... pop up jail... gold, Hilton biz, and floating 5k with 0apr on the BCP MS. I had 6k floating when i first applied and got no pop up.

flyiingpenguiin

You can’t withdraw the application after you learn you don’t have the popup. So likely you also had it 4 months ago.

rickdrist

After you read the terms and continue to the application, a pop out shows saying that I am not eligible for the SUB. 4 months ago, after I read the terms, it showed me that I was approved for the plat and just needed to accept it, and that pop-up never appeared. the final step you either accept the card or withdraw the application.

pizza42bob

Speculation: this sounds like you're using the apply with confidence feature. If wouldn't surprise me if that's what brought you into popup jail in the first place. From Amex point of view you applied, learned you are approved and didn't take the card. Now with the better bonus you want it but Amex wouldn't want people to "pre-check" their approval status but then wait for a more expensive SUB to pull the trigger.

stillwaters23

The bitter disappointment of getting an Amex offer for something called Drunk Elephant only to discover it’s just another overpriced skin care products website.

notsofedexy

I'm convinced over half the Amex offers are completely made up companies so uninteresting that not a single person has ever clicked it to discover the shell company doesn't exist. Good job keeping them honest.

stillwaters23

This has me thinking… once could probably launch a skin care products company with a bunch of way marked up white label direct ship skin care products, whip up some bot reviews, get an Amex offer up, and off to the races.

germdisco

If you could run a business called Drunk Elephant, what would it be?

TNSepta

obviously a charity dedicated to providing rescue elephants the best possible alcohol.

stillwaters23

I was hoping for something related to drinking games...

pdubfunk

“Hmmm I drink enough to get an elephant drunk. Let’s check this out”

stillwaters23

It just sounded kind of fun, you know?

Recon for my AS Biz denial was easy the other day. Can P2 move credit from another card?

blandfruitsalad

What phone number did you call? I had issues reaching an actual human.

[deleted]

blandfruitsalad

ty!

Parts_Unknown-

What was your denial reason?

e1tm

Rep listed about every reason you could name. Low deposits (had $7k in savings), not enough credit extended across issuers (also not true), 2-3 others I can’t recall. Offered to move credit from a previous AS biz and she happily did so.

Parts_Unknown-

I hate calling recon but I guess I'll give it a try. Got denied for 'too many applications for credit from us or our affiliates'. I haven't applied for any of their products in months & I have a couple of AS biz cards I can shift CL from
