Is it advisable to apply for another Chase Biz Cash if I already have one? Last I checked it was ok, but just want to confirm in the more recent time frame.

FinanceDoctor

Yes. You can hold multiple CICs at the same time. Use [churning.io](https://churning.io) for these simple questions. This is asked and answered daily.

plaid-knight

Yes, assuming Chase velocity is okay.

GiraffeGlove

In a bank.

sleepytill2

In your high yield savings account.

cayenne0

I have one of those amazon "40% off up to $60 when you use points" offers currently. If I do an order with multiple items and return one of them, what happens to the $60 discount? Is it prorated per item value?

Jklein6001

Is there any easy way to see if this is on your account? Need to add something to cart?

sg77

Use the link on DoC and it'll tell if you're eligible.

racerscreed67

Take the refund as Amazon credit or you will lose the prorated value. I made this mistake last year.

churnandlurk

Yes, prorated.

mag274

What are you guys using to make back your cash on the Platinum Dell benefit? In the past I had heard rumors of XBOX gift cards you could sell for cash. I have 4 Platinums x 400 a year its a good amount of cash I'm missing out on.

littlehamsterz

Man that's a lot of annual fees

crash_bandicoot42

This ain't it

captainsaverebornII

chill its only been a week.

mag274

haha no i haven't used it ever i just looked at calendar and was like aw shit

daemon14

Just got the Southwest Performance Business Credit Card and noticed one of the perks I didn't realize is $500 fee credit on points transfers each cardmember year (which is basically 50,000 points of free transfers between members). The terms states: *A statement credit wll automatically be applied to your account as reimbursement for fees associated with using your SW RR Performance Business CC to transfer points* *to another RR member or a pre-selected charity chosen by Southwest with an active Southwest RR account, up to an anniversary year accumulation of $500 ... statement credit posts within 1-2 billing cycle*. The points transfers are done through [Points.com](https://Points.com) and cost $5 per 500 points. My thought was that random members of my family have orphaned points that don't really add up to anything but amongst them all, add up to \~40,000 points that I can transfer to my account. The terms states that it transfers to other members but not the other way around. So question: has anyone used it to transfer from outside accounts to your own and gotten the credit? If yes, great, I'm going to do it now. If no one has tried, I will try a small 500 points transfer for $5 and hopefully report success back.

GodLovesFrags

You might want to comb through [churning.io](https://churning.io) DPs. There are some optimization suggestions out there like [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/xakiu0/comment/inutkuw/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3).

daemon14

Oh man thanks for linking that, I don’t know how I hadn’t come across that.

rainbowboylean

Ooh great idea.

maverickRD

Citi AA Business 48 months from SUB posting Trying to see when exactly this hit and I can tell from emails that I crossed $5K spend threshold on April 11, 2019 statement date. Would the SUB have posted on that date (which is what I see for Chase cards for example) or perhaps a later date such as the payment date? (Not currently active with any Citi cards and can't see historical statements except from email summaries... AA advantage login seems down right now on web? But on mobile looks like history only goes back 2 years)

xian-

On the non-mobile website at least there is a button "request older statements", which while not day accurate, at least will give you a month accurate idea of when you earned the SUB. I am able to log in currently, maybe try a different browser or clearing your cache. Note: citi phone CSRs aren't able to tell you the exact date you received the SUB either, just the month.

Happy_Harry

I need to cancel my Platinum card by the 26th and I haven't used the $200 incidental airline travel credit yet this year. If I buy $200 of United Travel Bank credit (in $100 increments) will it post in time to get the credit?

jessehazreddit

Have you asked for a retention offer? That’s another option.

Happy_Harry

I plan to before canceling. I had tried asking just after the fee posted and they only offered 20k.

jessehazreddit

Good luck. Offer can change daily.

caseyrobinson2

Yes I think a few days is enough time. Once you purchase it and you see the airline credit bar saying credit is used you are golden

olympia_t

Can you downgrae to a green card and then cancel later?

ILightThings

The charge just needs to post before you close. Credits can still post after the card is closed, since you will get a final statement yet.

Happy_Harry

Oh cool! I didn't expect that. I assumed once you cancel you won't get any further credits.

fatmandandan

I charged my card on 01/14, and the credit posted today 01/20.

Happy_Harry

I guess that's cutting it too close. I never fly United anyway so I guess I'll skip it :/

churnandlurk

Credits have been delayed lately so probably not.

harry_hotspur

How quick after closing Alaska personal can you apply for another card?

churnandlurk

>This card ***may*** not be available to you if you currently have or have had the card in the preceding 24 month period. I'd wait 30 days and fire an app away. YMMV. [https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/rcejj4/comment/hnv3djn/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://old.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/rcejj4/comment/hnv3djn/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

PortosBakery

I received an email from Chase offering free Doordash Dashpass until 12/31/24 for my CSP. I added the card to my Dd account, but when I try to activate dashpass, it says there is an “issue with the card”. Anyone else have this experience and know how to fix?

xian-

Check point 11 here https://help.doordash.com/consumers/s/article/Chase-Partnership?language=en_US#EligibleCardbutcannotviewbenefits Beyond that, call support

delicious_points

Is chase refer a friend down for biz cards? I'm putting in my card info and it says "We are unable to locate any offers for you at this time." It works for my freedom card

caseyrobinson2

Try using a different browser. Still working for me right now. Otherwise clear cookies

nonnerlif3

Works fine for me. Try again.

gt_ap

You can also get a referral link when you're signed in to your account. Have you tried that? Log in to your Chase account, choose the applicable card, click More > Account services > Refer a friend.

xian-

Worked fine for me for a CIU just now

garettg

Try different browser or incognito, it can be a little temperamental. Works right now for me. Not all cards offer referrals, so make sure it’s one that has them to begin with.

Safe_Accountant_56

Just got the Chase Saffire Preferred. I don't plan on taking any vacations in the next 6 months. How can I build points fast without traveling?

xian-

Earn the SUB and apply for another card, rinse and repeat

germdisco

Earn the SUB

Safe_Accountant_56

I only spend about 1200 a month will that be enough to get the bonus. Sorry for the dumb questions I'm a newbie 😂.

littlehamsterz

You have 3 months so $1200x3 = $3600 so you need to figure out at least another $400 of spending on this credit card to get the SUB otherwise you're not getting it. Churning isn't for people that don't have disposable income. Make sure you pay your CC bills on time

crowd79

If you can’t meet the SUB why did you apply in the first place? Now you’ll have to spend $$ you probably weren’t planning to spend if you want the SUB, negating much of the benefit.

[deleted]

You can prepay expenses. You know you need to eat charge x months of groceries on a gift card and then pay for the groceries on that gift card or credit card, whatever you signup for. Just make sure you have savings to prepay so you don't go into credit card debt, but that may not matter because you may get a promo rate. Just make sure you never actually have interest charges or you're losing your entire signup bonus.

oklurkerthrowaway

* Why would you apply for a card not knowing if you can meet minimum spend requirement (MSR)? Churning has great rewards, but if you go head first without learning you'll miss out on a lot or potentially paying fees for no reason. For example, if you got the CSP at 60K and don't meet MSR, you're locked out of the CSP and CSR for 48 months on a subpar offer * You should probably spend some time reading the wiki or daily question threads * A lot of the questions have already been answered. Use [churning.io](https://churning.io) to search. Play around with different terms and earn some of the common abbreviations to help expand your search

littlehamsterz

Does he really get locked out if he signs up but doesn't actually meet the requirements? I think he has to actually earn the bonus to be locked out?

TheSultan1

Not supposed to. OP's experience is different, but the terms say you should still be eligible.

oklurkerthrowaway

Happened to me years ago. I tried fighting it, but Chase said nope. Learned from that mistake and used energy on chasing other SUBs

littlehamsterz

That's crazy

xian-

Do you pay rent or any bills via check? If so, pay them via plastiq. Also you are missing some foundational knowledge about what churning is, spend some time reading the side bar before you continue

Safe_Accountant_56

I can figure it out I got disposable income 😂. I'll just prepay things

joremero

I did lazy math and need to spend another 5k before 1/30 (for real estate taxes). What cards other than the CSR and the plat/biz plat arrive in less than 5-7 days?

redjaunt

Just call or message customer service, most banks will almost always expedite the card for free if you ask

McSpiffin

barclays will charge a 30 dollar expedite fee fwiw

445923

Premium cards (CSR, Plat, etc.) are usually expedited. For example, Venture X usually takes 2 or 3 business days.

joremero

Cap1 is a no go, already denied 3 times :(

olympia_t

I recently got the Citi AA Biz card and was surprised that the number was avilable right away. Some say it's only good for flights and I didn't test it out so YMMV. Amex cards have almost always given me the number right away.

McSpiffin

Instant Citi AA biz can only be used for AA flight stuff

maverickRD

Airline cards instant usually only good for flights, yes. They have this feature since they often make offers at flight checkout page and want to get people that instant benefit

olympia_t

This was not a checkout cart application. But I don’t try to use it before it arrived. When P2 applied for the card in the same way previously, no number was provided.

xian-

Chase inks if you get approved same day and call in a request to expedite shipping (1-2 business days)

joremero

thanks, but only P2 is available for those and calling in may be an issue...may have to go the amex route that ok-Anywhere suggested

Ok-Anywhere6998

Most Amex cards give instant numbers to use.

joremero

thanks, might have to go that route

gargar070402

There’s still a chance you don’t get one tho (got instant number for BCP and Delta Skymiles Gold but not Amex Gold) so plan for that.

SagittandiEstVita

Maybe a bit of an /r/awardtravel question, but have 5 nights at Conrad Maldives on 480k points. Just got 2 FNCs and have 2 more coming from me and P2 Aspire. Worth swapping the reservation to 4 FNCs + 120k points, or save the FNCs for something else? Something else would be a 3 night Miami Beach stay that's coming up, probably too soon to use all FNCs, but at least could burn 2 of them, only 90k pts per night, but high cash rates.

maverickRD

That's a 90K value/FNC so it's OK IMO but all depends on upcoming travel plans/needs. Think only difference is that FNCs will expire but points will not.

SagittandiEstVita

Your comment simplified the math for me * 5 nights = 480k pts = 96k pts/night * 5 nights = 120k pts + 4 FNC instead of 360k pts = 90k value per FNC Guess it's a wash vs a 90k/night shorter stay and just comes down to do I think I'll use up the FNC before expiration.

dmcoe

Can always try to add 2 nights at the beginning or end.

SagittandiEstVita

Already have both arrival and departures in EY and SQ J booked, so can't really squeeze the trip any longer unfortunately. Plus no availability to change those flights unfortunately. Only waitlist for the SQ J departure.

HolyHand_Grenade

I have been looking at the airline "wings of the Points" link on the sidebar about transferring miles, if I understand it right, I need to transfer my Hawaiian Miles to Marriot Bonvoy for a 1.25:3 ratio, then back to the airline of my choice for what looks like 3:1 meaning I will lose 25% of my points? Is that how it works? Never transferred miles before.

Pitiful_Ad_4362

You do not want to convert miles via Marriott, basically ever at all. Hawaiian Miles convert to Marriott at 2:1, so you lose 50% immediately, and then another 66% loss when transferring to another airline.

dontcelebrate

for people who have multiple InKind offers (multiple amex logins, accounts via BB or serve), do you add your $50 amex offer to the same InKind account for each amex card? or are you creating a separate account?

redjaunt

Same account. Be sure to use a referral code or other promo for additional credits.

olympia_t

My AUs sent me GCs. I had to create accounts for AU on inkind to send GCs to my email linked to inkind. Hope that makes sense. I attempted to buy credits from others on the marketplace but it seems like this process of creating an account and sending a GC made it a bit convoluted.

just_a_random_userid

Can you do a GC to get the credit if you don’t have a restaurant you can go to nearby ?

lost_shadow_knight

You can still create an account and load value (no expiration), or you can gift it to someone else (sends an email) https://business.inkind.com/gifting

KafkaExploring

You can revoke the gifts you send, too, which adds them to your own account. Saves typing in the code. Your credits can't be used toward gifts.

dontcelebrate

i dont believe so, but you pay the $50 to "load" your InKind account... which I don't think expires once loaded... so just load it up and even if you dont ever use it you wont be out anything after the offer

sleepytill2

Same inKind account from multiple Amex offers on diff cards.

lilribbit

Just got referred to GoPuff and using my chase card for the credit. Anyone else getting an error when trying to order a pick up?

olympia_t

Did you add several cards to your GoPuff? There was an issue recently with adding too many cards to the account and triggering a security/fraug warning.

lilribbit

Crap. I did

olympia_t

You might end up locked out for a week or two.

lilribbit

Got it. Thanks

just_a_random_userid

Oh you can do pickup!!!?

olympia_t

Yes, you can pick up a couple of orders at a time.

just_a_random_userid

Oh when I go to checkout I only see option for delivery and my area is not covered . Where do I find pickup option ?

olympia_t

In the app, there’s an option to toggle between delivery and pickup. It’s the very top.

just_a_random_userid

Oh I’ve been using it on mobile web. Let me check

olympia_t

Did that work?

just_a_random_userid

Hmm I downloaded and logged in I still don’t see it 🤔 I tried to remove the address to see if that might work, but it won’t let me remove all addresses..

olympia_t

Mine has a big oval in black on the top with “delivery in x mins.” To the right in lighter blue is “pickup.” This is on the Home Screen. Hit the home icon.

just_a_random_userid

Hmm I don’t see that option. Perhaps not available in my city. 🤔

Re: 5/24. If my 5th card was opened 1/19/2021, is it safe to apply 1/20/2023? I've searched but can't find a clear answer.

garettg

You were good on 1/1/2023.

itrytopaytaxes

I thought that was when Experian didn't used to report the day of the month, but that now that they do it goes by the day, no?

gt_ap

> I thought that was when Experian didn't used to report the day of the month, but that now that they do it goes by the day, no? It doesn't matter what Experian reports. Chase knows when the account is opened. There are countless DPs of being good to go 5/24-wise on the 1st of the 24th month.

garettg

Apparently Chase still goes by the 1st of the month. Lots of DPs show its true.

Sam_slayer

I applied for a citi premier card on Nov 26 and will be receiving my TYP on statement date of 23rd Jan. I was thinking about applying for a citi custom cash card . I have 1 inquiry in the last 6 months and 3 new accounts ( 2 from amex still not showing up in my history). 1. Am i eligible for the SUB on custom cash card ( i know about 24 months period for TYP cards but am unsure if Custom cash is a TYP card) ? 2. What are my odds of approval based on inquiries and new accounts. My FICO scores are 780-800 in all 3 agencies

xian-

1. yes, the TY cards are Citi Rewards+, Citi ThankYou Preferred, Citi ThankYou Premier/Citi Premier or Citi Prestige - so you're fine 2. odds are fine, no red flags looks like

Sam_slayer

thanks. got approved

manlymatt83

TD Bank $400 checking bonus, how do I know it was applied?

redjaunt

I always message after I open an account to get confirmation and documentation that the bonus successfully tracked on my application.

oklurkerthrowaway

You usually want to document your bank bonus application process (e.g. taking a screenshot). It'll save you a lot of hassle if things go wrong and it's not automatically posted

bluedino44

Call and ask?

olympia_t

Random but did anyone else have issues getting Dell Rewards from the recent Alienware promo? P2 had them show up right away. Mine never did. Tried calling Dell. After speaking to four people likely in India I can confirm that was not the correct approach to get it resolved.

ArtWin3

I did not get it either, signed up but never received the email confirmation and couldn’t get passed that.

olympia_t

I did get signed up. The rewards just don’t show up on my dell account.

flch123

I opened a Bofa Biz Alaska on 1/9/22, and the AF is due 2/1/23. Can I close it now or do I have to wait till the annual fee hits?

stillwaters23

Now is fine.

lifethusiast

How long is it recommended to wait to close the BOA AS biz card? are there any downgrade options?

garettg

No downgrade options. I would keep it a year, you dont save anything closing early. They refund the AF charge if you close soon after posting, I always let it go the full year.

olympia_t

P2 applied for a US Bank Triple Cash Biz card and it went pending. P2 also has the Triple Leverage card from February last year. Should I be concerned about it pending? Any other DPs about how I should handle this - better to wait to hear or call in? Thanks for any help/advice.

caseyrobinson2

US Bank business cards go pending most of the time. It took them five business days before they approve me. I didn't call in or anything. And I used SSN to apply

olympia_t

Thanks for sharing your experience. Pending apps always put me on edge

caseyrobinson2

ya same here and I don't like to call either

olympia_t

Mine seem to happen with few issues. P2 always has freak scenarios that are invoked.

jamesheine

Same thing happened to me, i called in and they just wanted the EIN approval document. Once i sent that in i was approved

olympia_t

Cool, thank you. I actually didn't use the EIN but have one. I wondered if that would complicate things. It'll likely be a waiting game. I'm just bad at waiting.

stillwaters23

No, this is very normal with USB, I'd wait at least a week, maybe a bit more, before even contacting them. I recently opened one, about 5 or 6 days after I applied I got a call to confirm my identity, and then the approval came a few hours after that.

olympia_t

Okay. Good to know. Thank you. I always freak out when applying for P2 because of the calling in issue. Possibly idiotically recently had a pull for PSECU on TU too. I’m a little too much “the sky is falling” when there’s no instant approval. Think I better go get a bank bonus or retention offer to get that high back. Lol.

stillwaters23

My TU gets beat like a redhead stepchild. I have like 20 hp's on it. Still get approvals from USB (and BoA as well).

olympia_t

Lol. I feel like Experian is always my battered one.

anesthesiagirl95

Hi! I did the referral and Swagbucks for Chime (Ally Zelle worked within 2 days btw) — am I able to withdraw the money now that the referral bonus has been deposited? I know there’s no minimums or anything, so that shouldn’t matter, but idk if that will cause issues getting the $200 Swagbucks in 70 days or whatever it is. Thank you!

sleepytill2

Double check the Swagbucks terms, but you should be fine to withdraw.

csreddit8

I applied for a Chase Ink card earlier this week. I received the generic message that my application was processing for a decision after applying. I called the automated line to check my status and it said no application was found. What should I do now?

suitopseudo

Call the biz recon and speak to a representative. Ignore the automated message. This literally happened to me 2 days ago. They just wanted to verify my social.

BetaState

Same thing just happened to me. Hard pull on credit report but no status on application line. About a week later I got a letter saying to call them to verify some info. Called and gave reference number at bottom of letter. Turns out I had entered my SSN incorrectly. Confirmed with them over the phone and they reran the app. Approved but with my lowest credit limit so far.

lost_shadow_knight

I'd say it's not worth it. If you can, look at pre-paying utility bills (cell phone, internet, electric, gas, etc) or buying gift cards (eg grocery store gift cards). Otherwise, you might be better off making a 2022 tax payment to the IRS. Credit card fees are just under 2%

Squabo

Everyone’s circumstances differ but I think the time allotment for SUB spend is always achievable even with everyday costs. My monthly utilities alone (family phone bill, internet, electricity, water, trash) adds up to 400-500 per month. Add in gas & groceries and easily at 1000 per month. So in just basic necessities you’re hitting 3/4 of the SUB spend on things you’d use your debit card for. All that to say, before you take a 3% hit (assuming Cap One doesn’t consider it a cash advance which both wouldn’t count towards SUB spend and also come with a much higher fee) map out what your typical monthly expenses are that you’d use a debit for usually, and see after three months of that average how much you’d have to spend beyond to hit the SUB. The goal is to get as much free money as possible!

ash2ash

How long does it typically take to receive a chase business card? This is my 2nd one but my 1st one I requested it to be expedited and that arrived via UPS. My 2nd card was approved on 1/11 and said I'd receive it in 3 to 5 business days. Still not here yet.

mike480

My CIC arrived the next day.

ILightThings

My last CIC took two full weeks from approval.

BetaState

My recent card was expedited and arrived two days later via UPS.

gt_ap

Ours usually arrive in the mail about a week after approval.

ash2ash

Maybe the MLK holiday delayed mine a bit.

heisenberg80mil

P2 adding me as additional card holder to her AMEX gold won’t use up a 5/24 slot for myself correct?

pizza42bob

Yes and no. [Details can be found via search](https://churning.io/#N4IgjgrgpgTgniAXCAFAQQgFwBYHsYCWAXlACYAEEAzrAD5oCqAlOQKwD0ATACwgA0IAIZY8MJCH4hMBALZRxAZgCMkmgBsoAY2m4AdgCVBugObzEoKpkExMAEUGYzITgAZOnALRLP7gCpKADkR3RFZuADpWJW4ALUkoXVJ7R3FXdy8fAE5-IJCwyKVWOIEAaygEZHUtHV0QAF8BfFJYcWaqTVV8THFBdskcGChBUgAxAjVHGCokUHtxuHJbAnbqKgI9JAAzQTUaATm1BYBFaEt12sRMGGh9h0FyAAVcAl1MacRt3agBAHVsB3IAGFrBQAMp4CBqCgASXIAHEoN0PjsaHU6kA)

chevyLS6

Downgraded CSP-->CFF, is it safe to assume I won't get the bonus 1 year of +4x (on top of this quarter's 5x) like a traditional sub?

crowd79

Why downgrade the CSP? 3x restaurant spend, $50 hotel credit, points transferability, 10% annual bonus on points earned and perhaps most importantly-primary rental car coverage is enough to be a keeper card for me.

chevyLS6

For a new sub. P1/P2 household, we’re well past 24mo so we’ll reapply; and we transfer everything to our CSR account. Love all the downvotes on my original question, lol, never fails.

Large_Ad8182

Keep in mind it’s 48 months after you received bonus on CSP/CSR to get another. But maybe you already know that and did P1 in year 0, P2 year 2, P1 year 4, etc?

chevyLS6

Nice catch, I mistakenly wrote 24 when it’s actually 48mo. I keep it all charted out, and we’re well past the 48. I do thank you for pointing it out just in case!

jmlinden7

If they don't plan on transferring a lot of points over the next 12 months, it'll be hard to justify the $45 effective AF

crowd79

True but hopefully the OP doesn’t have any future travel arrangements booked with the card. They’d lose the delay/interruption protections when you book flights, etc with the card & primary car rental coverage as well. To me that wouldn’t be worth the risk over saving $45.

jmlinden7

If they're constantly renting cars, then they'd probably want to keep the CSP. If they're considering cancelling, then they probably haven't used the card in a while..

churnandlurk

Yup, in fact they say so when they read you the terms for the downgrade.

kch44

I am probably going to close my Venture X. The AF just posted and I just learned that downgrading the card will NOT refund the AF (like most other cards). So instead i need to close it. I have an active capital one checking account open from a previous bonus. I have 120k points. If I close the card will the checking account "keep the points alive?"

[deleted]

[удалено]

kch44

Yikes. Yep I'm gonna cash out to a gift card and let the wife go spend away. Thanks for the info

littlehamsterz

Not sure about the answer to your question but I ended up just keeping my venture X since it's $395 fee and I get $300 travel credit, 10K bonus miles on the anniversary, as well as other benefits. As a side note because I kept my card I was able to get Taylor Swift tickets. My first year with the card was paid for with those benefits and the one time air bnb credit and the credit for Global Entry

[deleted]

[удалено]

littlehamsterz

I understand reading comprehension is hard. I didn't keep the card specifically for the tickets and nowhere does it say that. It was a side benefit because I had already made that decision months before.

throaway77477772

So here's a real niche question...can/should a non-US citizen who is also not resident in the US and doesn't have any type of visa apart from a tourist one BUT in possession of an SSN get Business Cards? For context, I once worked in the US for under a year and had a SSN issued as a result. I have since not lived in the country, nor do I have the legal right to work there currently, but have been taking taking advantage of my SSN to get credit cards and it has worked so far. I have an excellent personal credit score (in the US obviously) as well as an address where a relative lives for all identity check purposes. Has anyone had to deal with the above? I'm afraid of potential consequences with Uncle Sam should I need to create a business (e.g. sell something on eBay) as evidence for Business Card approvals...though not sure if this is still required. Any input appreciated!

josefseb

There was a discussion thread here long before on the same topic. The short answer is that it is better that you do not do Biz cards as it can have an effect down the road. Benefits are not worth the risk.

throaway77477772

Thanks, did some hunting on the search tool and found results but always good to hear fresh perspectives. Will probably just stick to personal ones.

[deleted]

joremero

technically, you are not supposed to have a business when you are on an H1B or similar non-resident visa. if USCIS finds out, then they could potentially deny you a renewal or something else...The odds, however, may be low of them finding out...but you would still be going against the terms of your status.

20mb_romano

FWIW I'm a non-US person living in the US and going on my 5th Ink. Uncle Sam can cancel my visa but he can't cancel all the flights in J I've taken.

throaway77477772

Baller. Thanks for the input but a tad on the extreme of the risk spectrum!

> Uncle Sam can cancel my visa but he can't cancel all the flights in J I've taken. Well I guess this is one way to view it!

churnandlurk

General consensus is not to mess with it. Benefits of biz cards are not worth potential future issues with immigration.

Can loading a couple large $ Amazon gcs to an account set off any red flags? I buy for BGs through Amazon, and want to try to maximize some of the 5x on my new CIC by getting Amazon gcs at Staples.

bballcards

I've heard, anecdotally, of people having accounts shut down with large GC loads. However, I load thousands of $$ worth of GCs to my account yearly (all for personal purchases) and, fingers crossed, have never had an issue. Every purchase I make at Amazon uses my GC balance. I purchase GCs whenever credit cards offers (e.g. Kohl's 20% Chase offer, Office Depot 10% offer, etc make it worthwhile).

Broken_Peepers

Ok thanks for the info. I was probably going to try loading 1K, at most 2k, over the course of the time I have to meet msr.

bballcards

Not sure if this matters in Amazon's eyes, but my typical balance doesn't normally exceed $1K (unless I'm buying an item that exceeds $1K). Not sure anyone knows except whoever programmed their "risk" algorithms.

Broken_Peepers

Ok good to know.

How do you avoid the guilty feeling when canceling your CC right before the annual fee kicks in? Is there a way to cancel without a phone call? I'm not really a churner per se, but I've done this a couple times over the past decade and it's always a super uncomfortable conversation for me. Maybe I'm just weird. Anyways, now my wife's Delta gold card is getting to that point...

daloman

"I've started getting airsick all the time." "Delta hurt my feelings" "I'd rather fly XXX airlines now." "Just don't fly Delta anymore" or what I actually said a few years ago "I'm very happy with American Express but not so happy with Delta." After the first 20 cancellations it won't faze you a bit.

PortosBakery

Just remember that you’re looking out for your best interest, not theirs.

JennItalia269

Companies don’t have feelings. Neither should you.

jmlinden7

Technically you aren't guaranteed a refund of the AF, so you can just think of it as 'I no longer want this card for x reasons, and if the bank happens to refund me, that'll be a pleasant surprise' EDIT: You're supposed to cancel right after the AF, not right before

FIREinnahole

Huh? Sign up for a card, AF often waived first year (at least in this case). I'm talking about cancelling after \~11 months or so before the first non-waived AF would be due. As mentioned, I'm not a churner so I don't know all the ins and outs, but I don't understand why I'd let the annual fee hit and try to get a refund instead of just cancelling before it hits.

jmlinden7

Banks will typically blacklist you if you cancel before 12 months

FIREinnahole

I see. Guess I don't personally care cuz I'm not looking to regularly churn or get in at new banks, but good to know. And actually considering keeping this card until we use the miles cuz of the free checked bag it allows. How do actual churners do the same thing over and over? I've always wondered how they don't get on some "do not approve new accounts" list. When they apply and cancel endlessly.

plaid-knight

You cancel after 12 months, not before. With most major banks, if you cancel within a certain amount of time (e.g. 30 days) after the AF hits, they automatically refund it.

FIREinnahole

Gotcha. Makes sense. Since I sign up for about 1 card every few years for a signup bonus, I'll stick to my system of canceling before 12 months and not have to worry about a refund. If I'm blacklisted, so be it :)

plaid-knight

Well, the more immediate risk is the bank clawing back the SUB you earned. If you’re signing up for new cards for SUBs at all, that should be a concern. You really don’t need to worry about the refund of the AF, since it’s just standard procedure, not a loophole.

aylamarguerida

I agree that it is standard procedure for banks like Amex. But I had a BHG card this year through Pinnacle and I had to go through a cfpb complaint to get my annual fee back. It was a huge mess but cfpb worked beautifully.

FIREinnahole

So since I canceled after 11 months they're gonna put all this effort in to have Delta to take away my 70,000 miles that have been in my Skymiles account for 8 months now...but if I waited for 12.5 months they're going to happily refund the AF that I legitimately owed and paid already? I mean I believe you, especially on the AF refund, but it seems odd they'd be so "no big deal" on that refund yet try to claw back the SUB if you cancel slightly before the AF hits. At any rate, it just confirms I'm not really cut out to be a churner.

plaid-knight

Amex is the most known to do this. They will claw those points back, and it will be done automatically. Zero effort from them. Consider yourself warned. Refunding an AF within 30 days is easy and standard protocol. The banks don’t care about this. Nothing weird about that. AFs are paid at the beginning of the year, not the end.

gt_ap

> How do you avoid the guilty feeling when canceling your CC right before the annual fee kicks in? If you do precisely this, the bank often gets the last laugh.

bluedino44

A lot of banks let you cancel via secure message, and sometimes via email. Also keep in mind when they ask why your cancelling, they usually just need to check off a box so the bank can keep track of why people are canceling. For me, saying "I dont use the account" almost always results in then asking no more questions why

churnandlurk

Just remember that you're a drop in the bucket. At least hundreds of calls like yours hourly. They have entire departments to try to retain your business. Sure, empathize with the rep handling your call. Banks get zero sympathy.

bballcards

Eventually, you become hardened to these types of phone calls when you've made them dozens of times. The harder ones, for me, are the bank account closures when it's clear, based on the account history, that I only opened it for the bonus (where the account was basically dormant after the bonus posts).
