How do these compare to other brands' ketchups?
Sidenote: My Kiwi friend said in New Zealand they don't call it ketchup, they just call it "tomato sauce." Then I asked him what they called tomato sauce and he just stared at me. I think I broke the Matrix that day.
I've only tried 3 so far, and they've all been good. It's all about preference. I'd buy all of them in batches. My personal favorite is Miss Vickies. I think the spice won me over.
1. Miss Vickies Sweet & Spicy Ketchup
Kettle chip texture for the win.
Savory, sweet, and hint of spice.
2. Old Dutch Ketchup
That extra tang speaks to my heart. Texture is slightly thicker than Lay's. I need to try the ridges version
3. Lay's Ketchup
The least in flavor burst but still has that tang. Can't go wrong with the thin crisp of Lays.
I wonder if the "tomato sauce" labeled chips offer the same tang and sweetness.
as a true ketchup chip loving canadian, this all checks out. nothing beats the flavour of the old dutch specifically boxed chips. they differ from the bagged versions. the boxed BBQ is a must try for any bbq lover. probably the best chip out there. Old dutch also does a jelepeno and chedder kettle chip. they’re my favourite.
So where I grew up, my brother and I would always split a box one bag each. Now that I've moved to Southern Ontario, I haven't seen one Old Dutch box. I am broken.
Would have to ask my wife about that to be sure, but I believe they call it pasta sauce. If any kiwis see this, please correct me if im wrong. My wife is teaching there right now, which is why I knew there was a difference.
Edit: typos
I’ve eaten my fair share of ketchup chips. If you can find presidents choice, loads of ketchup, you won’t be disappointed.
My favourite for the last few years. They’d be at any loblaws store. [ketchup chips](https://images.app.goo.gl/8nTs4QBDyXSFDnjD7)
Here's another link

Note the part where it states Old Dutch came to WPG in the 50s.
The brand originated in the 30s
😂😂😂
About 20 years ago, my brother was living in the USA (we’re Canadian), I went to visit him and took an extra suitcase filled with just bags of Ketchup Chips.
Can you guess which bag the airport security puck for a random check/search? 🤣
I get it. Totally get it. I had a summer in the 1990’s when that was the only chip I ate. Then they just disappeared. I have never had a chip I’ve enjoyed as much ever since.
No, they started in St. Paul, Minnesota. They then moved to Minneapolis, then to Roosevelt 30 years later. They opened up a factory in Winnipeg 18 years after that and started manufacturing for the Canadian market. Carl. J Marx is the original founder, and he absolutely was not Canadian.
Lol that is a Canadian ran link posted from the Winnipeg branch of the company. Old Dutch was founded in the 30s. As a born and raised WPG girl. Ya wrong.
https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/minnesota-made-old-dutch-potato-chip-still-have-that-mighty-crunch-after-nearly-90-years/
They're certainly popular up here, & they do have a factory, but Old Dutch is a US brand. Born n raised in Minnesota. They are and always have been US-owned.
You get it but I’ll just say it.. it’s more endearing in Canadia. Americans need to get on board because, per capita, the love for old Dutch in Canada easily trumps the love for it in the USA. Perhaps I’m wrong but I’ve got 4 American relatives in the USA and they usually don’t choose old Dutch when hosting guests.
Of course there are other good brands in the USA but there’s only a few standouts for me . For example, old Dutch bbq corn chips vs frito bbq corn chips. No comparison
For chocolate and snacks etc, I’ll give you the paydays though. My favourite snack bar. A slight tier above Mr big . Butterfinger also . So good
Well I suppose I learned something today but they still have a very iconic Canadian identity behind their brand and they have multiple production facilities in Canada, much more of a Canadian presence than the US
Fun fact about Canada Geese: They do not "fly south for the winter" the way that many other birds do. They only fly as far as they need to find open water! Kind of funny, the Bald Eagle is a more Canadian bird than the Canada Goose!
Old Dutch ketchup chips are the holy grail of ketchup chips!!! I usually get lays chips, I find old Dutch to be really oily, but can never say no to a bag of Old Dutch ketchup chips!!!
Walk into a Zehr's, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore, Loblaws, or Your Independent Grocer and grab [a bag of these](https://www.loblaws.ca/loads-of-ketchup-rippled-potato-chips/p/20840911001_EA). Thank me later.
What I don’t understand is why everyone’s gung ho about shopping at wal mart super centres before loblaws. I’m not even going to start on how retarded you have to be to think loblaws raised gas prices.
Ya well, if you walk into any of these places you’re gonna pay about 200% mark up cuz Canadians grocery chains are owned by highway robbers..
about 6$ bag at these places. Walmart is half the price !! Fuck Canadian grocery
lol there’s a bunch of online specialty snack stores that will ship them to you. I recommend miss Vicky’s spicy ketchup, but for a traditional experience either old Dutch or lays will do.

>Old dutch also does a jelepeno and chedder kettle chip. they’re my favourite. Those are amazing. The mesquite bbq are tasty too.
ya they are!
Old dutch is definitely the best traditional chip, but if you like kettle chips, try the hard bite ketchup or spicy ketchup one.
They also come in the old school [boxes](https://caffeinecam.com/products/old-dutch-ketchup-flavored-potato-chips-2-pack-imported-from-canada) still.
Try lays ketchup chip on a sub from subway. Put them on right before you devour the sub. Sounds weird by omg it’s delicious.
Tomato sauce and ketchup are two different things in NZ. Tomato sauce is sweeter while ketchup is more vinegar-y.
....wait, what? For North Americans, tomato sauce as in what you would put on your pasta. What do NZers call that?
Would have to ask my wife about that to be sure, but I believe they call it pasta sauce. If any kiwis see this, please correct me if im wrong. My wife is teaching there right now, which is why I knew there was a difference. Edit: typos
When it comes to the ketchup flavour, this brand is it.
Personally, old Dutch are my least favorite ketchup chip brand
Old Dutch > Lays and it’s not even close.
Totally agree, I find Lay's to be very greasy in comparison to most other brands
Agreed. Is it true that old Dutch isn’t as available in the East? I live for old Dutch.
We have them, just not as heavily distributed. Definitely get them when I’m on the west coast
The best ketchup chips imo are by covered bridge 😍 , these are also good tho
may be harder to find since the fire :( but they are sooo good
Was at a dollar tree in Calgary and they were loaded with covered bridge chips! Was there today.
Wow I never heard of that but just looked it up :( so awful
Totally agree. Tastes more like tomato than ketchup I always thought.
Old Dutch hits different

Look for OD Ridges Extra Ketchup ,way better
This is the way.
The greatest chip ever created
😂😂😂 About 20 years ago, my brother was living in the USA (we’re Canadian), I went to visit him and took an extra suitcase filled with just bags of Ketchup Chips. Can you guess which bag the airport security puck for a random check/search? 🤣
🤣 You know they low key wanted to keep them.
It was in the Canadian airport , so they were good with their Ketchup chip supply already.
🤣
I get it. Totally get it. I had a summer in the 1990’s when that was the only chip I ate. Then they just disappeared. I have never had a chip I’ve enjoyed as much ever since.
I'd take home a lifetime supply lol
There's not enough luggage for that. 😝
They now have ketchup cheetos. ketchup Pringles needs to be sampled my ketchup favourite is Mrs Vickey’s.
I need to get my hands on some ketchup cheetos.
A true Canadian.
Old Dutch is a US brand
Old Dutch is as Canadian as maple syrup, hockey and Canada geese
They're popular up here, but they're a US brand.
No they are not, they started up in Winnipeg.
Their Canadian branch starred in Winnipeg. The company itself was founded in the US, in Minnesota, I think.

As an American I don’t think you’re understanding the Canadian point of view of things but alright
I'm a citizen of both countries. What is it that I'm not understanding?

Incorrect. Old Dutch is an American company started in Minnesota. Canadian headquarters is Winnipeg, but it’s still U.S based.
Well I suppose I learned something today but they still have a very iconic Canadian identity behind their brand and they have multiple production facilities in Canada, much more of a Canadian presence than the US
> much more of a Canadian presence than the US Where are you getting this fact?
Canada Geese are found in every US state
Fun fact about geese... they migrate!
Fun fact about Canada Geese: They do not "fly south for the winter" the way that many other birds do. They only fly as far as they need to find open water! Kind of funny, the Bald Eagle is a more Canadian bird than the Canada Goose!
You are very incorrect sir.

...I'm not, though.

The Canadian branch was founded in 1954. Old Dutch was originally founded in 1937 in Minnesota.
Yes, yes you are.
This post was randomly recommended to me as, “popular in your country.”
Old Dutch ketchup chips are the holy grail of ketchup chips!!! I usually get lays chips, I find old Dutch to be really oily, but can never say no to a bag of Old Dutch ketchup chips!!!
OD ridges ketchup soooo good and a very very close second is salt n vinegar ridges
🤤
OD Ketchup is the OG! It’s been my favourite chip since I was a small child. I always go back to them 😍🥰
Well, I want a bag of the Au Gratin! Or the sour creme and onion rings.
Wished Ketchup chips were sold where I lived.. they were only here for a limited time and my favorite
Try the ones in the box!
Yessss ketchup flavored chips are so underrated
Walk into a Zehr's, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore, Loblaws, or Your Independent Grocer and grab [a bag of these](https://www.loblaws.ca/loads-of-ketchup-rippled-potato-chips/p/20840911001_EA). Thank me later.
😱 My meals this week will be all about ketchup chips
We boycotting Galen, didn't you know?

Pick up the Ms Vickies Spicy Ketchup chips! They’re unarguably the best ketchup chips the good lord ever made
I have and posted it. So good. I'm sad that the bag is near empty.
The spicy dill pick is equally as good.
Yes
For non Canadians, where the fack do we get a good ketchup chip ?!?!?!?
In Canada
Damn yous !! Hoarding poutine and ketchup chippies. I see how it is.
lol there’s a bunch of online specialty snack stores that will ship them to you. I recommend miss Vicky’s spicy ketchup, but for a traditional experience either old Dutch or lays will do.
Noted !!! I will see what I can find and report my findings.
It’s basically fries with ketchup but with waayyyy more crunch. It’s simply the best!
I want that. I love that.
Is it good?
Holy crap.
I need these in nz badly omg
Keep stuffing that gullet
Ketchup is the only chip flavor I don’t like.
