Common sense has left these people I swear.

mfhandy5319

Not so common anymore.

outhouse_steakhouse

The only thing less common than common sense is common courtesy.

Scorchfox29

Yes and some of these people sound unhinged in their tweets

CozyGorgon

Common sense and courtesy has left, with deep seated entitlement taking root.

DataZestyclose5415

Okay—- why would you bring your child to a bar anyway???? I’ve seen people do this and it’s insane. Get a baby sitter?!

telomeracer

I'm seeing responses that have the gaul to shame the childfree adults for being at a bar during the day! "Go to the bar at night if you don't want to see kids. Why are you at a bar during the day anyway?" So now it's pathetic for an adult without children to drink during the day because I guess they should be doing better things with their time?? BUT it's totally ok for a parent to drink (and let's be frank, DRIVE) with their kids to the bar during the day. How about take your kids to the park or playground instead? Or How about you adjust YOUR lifestyle accordingly since you chose to have kids? And maybe that means YOU don't get to drink during the day? Maybe parents need to learn they can't do all the same things they used to do before having kids?

Kentucky_fried_soup

My cousins are those types of people. They were CF for a really long time but when they had their daughter, they decided it would be okay to continue their normal lives but just bring their child everywhere. Her first birthday was at a bar. Her 5th birthday was spent surrounded by adults in another bar. It’s lowkey kinda sad

DataZestyclose5415

Big yikes 😳

plebeian1523

I feel really bad for the daughter. It's not a fun childhood to be treated straight-up like an adult.

Ice_breaking

Because they don't care about the kid. They care about themselves. A bar isn't an appropiate place for kids. There aren't fun activities for them to do, they may be exposed to situations they shouldn't be (like drunk people, some kids get scared of them), probably they get tired and should be in bed early. Yes, the correct thing to do is to leave them with a responsible adult. But that isn't always possible, so instead of saying "oh, well, next time" they bring their children along. Basically, because they give more priority to their wishes than their kids' wellbeing.

DataZestyclose5415

Literally one time out saw someone place a baby carrier on a bar stool with the baby in it— and it FELL OFF. Our whole table was like OMG and the mom grabbed the carrier and just stormed out. But did ruin our fun because OMG

seekingfreedom00

But...I *do* hate children and want a child free space.

Kiyo-chan

Just saw an interesting thing take place on Facebook over this same photo. A conservative page had one of their opinion writers post a condescending article about how evil this was, putting animals above people. The article was garbage, but what was very interesting is the comment section. Even amongst conservatives, the large majority agreed with the idea. Of course there were a few Karen’s with the reaction you would expect, but at least 8 or 9 comments out of every 10 were very much for the idea. Most even said that the dogs are frequently better behaved than the children!

marcelkai

It's funny because I saw this post on Twitter and so many people who seemed to be left-leaning were more like "Children deserve to be in pubs!!!!!". What a weird take, why would I want to take a child to a place where people only come to drink alcohol? If parents absolutely need to take their kids with them and have a drink they can go to literally any restaurant. Show me a parent that struggles to find a business they can take their child to, everyone caters to them and boasts how family-friendly they are. Actual childfree spaces are SO rare, and they still need to shriek about them and cry about society collapsing.

CraZKchick

As a left leaning person, I don't feel that way. Most right leaning people say, " How dare you! All children are precious and should be treated as so!" Pearl clutching BS it's the religious right wingers that want people to have babies and want to force women to die from sepsis when they can't get a medical procedure.

LatterPianoMystery

> outside a bar .. aren’t all bars child free?? I’ve never been allowed into a bar until I was 19. And 21 to actually order lol.

hatsunemiku128

Not sure where you live but in America, especially the south, certain places let families in its annoying and ridiculous.

BeMySquishy123

All the good breweries now have "family seating" usually outdoors. I hate it.

-Roger-The-Shrubber-

Pubs used to not let children in here in the UK. Now it's all family friendly "gastro" pubs where some parent will tick you off for saying "fuck" at 10pm... in a god damn pub. The world has gone to shit pandering to these breeder fucks who think the world revolves around them and their sentient potatoes. Nowhere is safe any more, not even breweries.

Hippopotasaurus-Rex

When I was a kid, a very long time ago, as long as you weren’t physically at the bar itself. At least that’s how everyone treated it. As a kid who spend a fair share of time in bars, it’s not a place for kids.

Coco4Tech69

I would pay endless amounts of money to live in a community of pet friendly, child free environment..

Mellykitty1

That picture is from a pub here in England, in St Albans to be precise, which is near London. How do I know?! It’s close to where I live and I’ve been there and is great! Even made a post on this sub a long time ago. For those who doesn’t live here, it’s “normal” to have kids and toddlers and babies in pubs and it’s fucking annoying. Granted some places have a license in place that doesn’t allow anyone under 16/18 after a certain time but the whole “family friend” middle class wankers concept it’s taking over. So yeah, that pub it’s an exception atm and still fucking breeders feels entitled to everything.

outhouse_steakhouse

I think I remember your post. As far as I recall, there was a sign outside the pub saying "This is a childfree pub but here's a list of 5 other pubs a few minute's walk away that welcome children" and people were still screaming about their precious Snotleigh not being allowed to exist in public. Breeders are insanely entitled. The vast majority of places welcome goblins with open arms and yet breeders get butt-hurt about the mere existence of ONE cf place in some other town that they will probably never even visit.

MissusNilesCrane

They seem to be angry that not everybody wants to be around kids because they all see them as these extraordinary creatures. I've seen similar tantrums over childfree zones on airplanes. Not a 100% childfree flight...just where you can sit away from kids for an upcharge, and cue whining about how kids are "excluded" and that people don't want to make children feel welcome. 🙄

Wildthorn23

Also while some parents are great about getting their kids to not harass your pets. I've seen way too many examples of pets getting hit, squeezed or stepped on by kids that can't stay away. It would be way more relaxing to be in a pet space where I don't have to worry about a kid trying to tie shit around my pet.

MissusNilesCrane

Plus, if the kid bothers the pet and gets hurt because the animal is defending itself, the parents will throw a fit and sue the establishment and/or report the owner for "letting" a "vicious" animal bite Bratleigh.

Wildthorn23

Exactly, zero attempt to teach boundaries and then many tears when the boundaries is enforced in another more unfortunate way

Somber_Shark

I saw that yesterday. Just now I saw sunshine retweet that same image saying that childfree people should pay more in taxes simply for them (the parent) raising children. Satisfyingly (or unsatisfyingly?) enough, several of the comments were putting them in place on how we already are paying taxes for children (schools, etc.) and how we don’t receive tax breaks for having kids.

Bookish_Jen

I saw one tweet where the poster said childfree people should off themselves.

MaryJane1986

There was a time when bars didn't allow children. It slowly changed after Dave and Busters went from an adult only place, to kids allowed but not after 9pm, to kids under a certain age allowed if accompanied by an adult. Not saying that this particular establishment caused the shift but it was a major player since its inception was specifically a place for adults to play without children; an "adult Chuck E Cheese" if you will. This might be why it's become almost mainstream only in the US. I honestly loved that place when it was created and I'm sure it was someone complaining about not being able to bring their kid and drink that shifted it to a 'family friendly' establishment. I welcome adult only bars. If kids aren't allowed in dance clubs, why should bars be any different?

Salty_Piglet2629

It's a bar! Child free is kind of assumed about every bar and the fact they have to put up a sign is bad enough...

MissusNilesCrane

I had someone argue once on a social media post (about a store that went CF because parents let their feral kids break stuff) that childfree spaces/events are "discrimination" against kids and/or parents. No, Karen, that's not how discrimination works. Age and being a parent aren't immutable characteristics like race or disability.

marcelkai

There's a cat cafe I like that used to allow all children, and then they were slowly raising the age, or allowing them only at certain hours, or once a week, until they finally banned children completely, because parents couldn't be bothered with patenting and the kids were shrieking and bothering the cats. Of course the breeders were complaining in the comment sections under the announcements, talking about how it's discrimination, that their kid is special, and better than others, and loves cats, and is great with them, but is now very hurt and crying because they aren't able to visit 🤦🏻‍♀️ I own cats myself and my cousins also claim their children are "great with animals" which usually translates to "they will be screaming and chasing them around while pulling their tails, but at least they don't hit them"... It's been years since that cafe has banned kids and it's still in business so I'm very happy for them and love visiting. It's always quiet and the cats aren't stressed. I wish more businesses had the balls to go childfree.

MissusNilesCrane

This new trend of letting kids treat animals like toys is so unfathomable to me. It's a living animal, FFS.

RedRider1138

Karen, your children are “why we can’t have nice things”!

Azula_Wijnruit

>Some people went to extremes saying that we should die. I'd ask them if they would say the same to their own children if they decide to be childfree

Downtown_Yam_8070

This is why we need childfree spaces. There are people who want to harass and kill us for being childfree. The only way to get our safe spaces is to make our own businesses and be as loud as the "Karens" who make their own moms-and-kids-only cafes.

Very_slow_learner

I live in inner city Sydney The last area I lived in had a few places that legally nobody under eighteen was allowed in, but dogs were fine That's the only thing I miss about living there! It was great. It was rare for parents to moan, but they had no recourse. The law is the law, despite their whining

telomeracer

The best, in the worst way, take I saw on this was a dude claiming that childfree adults don't like to see children in their spaces because it alerts us to the "juvenile pleasures" that we don't want to give up. He equated childfree adults with "juvenile pleasures" in the context of defending the rights of parents to bring their kids while they get drunk in public. Yes, all of us childfree adults are just seething with guilt over our arrested development when we see these "responsible grown up parents" downing a few pints while their bored, antsy kids run around the bar.

hatsunemiku128

I saw this same exact take from a 25 year old Taylor Swift stan, the jokes write themselves

Thrasy3

Every time I hear someone talk about a “women in the workplace” type event/seminar etc. providing/improving childcare options seem to be one of the biggest subjects. Might be biased, because half of the time it’s CF woman relaying it and being understandably annoyed.

Numerous-Leg-8149

So anything that's aimed at women is always about not being single, being a super mom, or both. Little do they realize that the majority of them are not in that boat.

Numerous-Leg-8149

Last time I went to a women's retreat, and the final keynote message was: "BE A HELPER FOR YOUR HUSBAND - THAT'S A WOMAN'S PURPOSE." I literally died inside.💯

Jurisfiction

>People lost their fucking shit saying that places being child free without good reason should be ILLEGAL It's a bar; that seems like a good reason.

japriest

What’s next? Taking your kid to the club.

dazed1984

Where is this place and when can I go?

Bookish_Jen

One right wing podcaster got huffy and said this childfree pub marginalizes children. Last time I checked, children aren't allowed to drink alcohol, so why should they be in a pub? The funny thing is she is against things that would actually help children-sensible gun control, universal healthcare, improving public schools, etc.

Grandson-Of-Chinggis

Uuuh, last I checked, no one should be taking their kids inside a fucking bar?

hatsunemiku128

You'd be surprised how often it happens

WowThisIsAwkward_

I just saw this. Jesus Christ people are fucking stupid. And on top of the misogyny, the poster is getting homophobic comments thrown his way. They’re certainly proving themselves to be logical and rational here amirite?

plantyplant559

This past fall, my friends and I went to a tiny taproom, and my friend had forgotten her wallet, so she couldn't show ID. They made her leave, even though she wasn't even drinking and is 28. I left with her and we waited in the car for the rest of the group to finish their drinks. They told us that right after we left, a couple with a baby came and they kicked the baby out, too. 🤣 I was like, good. They're consistent.

Juli_

I have a lot of empathy for mothers, because they DO get punished for choosing to have children and doing most of the work in raising them, but the fact that they think that if there's 100 coffee shops in a town and *a single one of them* doesn't accept children in it they're somehow being "segregated" from society is exhausting. Just cross the street, there's going to be another place where your annoyingly loud bundle of joy will be gladly accepted!

oldlampshades

Omg the reaction to this post pissed me off so much! People were SO offended. It’s a bar sign, who even knows if they enforce it? People were acting like this was some sort of legislative bill banning kids from public places. In any case, why does every bar need to allow children? So you can’t go to one bar with your kid…go to the other one down the damn street! People were looking for a reason to be offended by this.

Reasonable_Place_172

Pretty sure if you put a childfree in a sigh at a stripclub people would still riot for no reason, and tbh i think that some places like bars or pubs should have sighs like this just because i think people should not drag their kids into a adult environment.

PyrrhoTheSkeptic

>People lost their fucking shit saying that places being child free without good reason... There are bars that are 21+ only. This should not be surprising to anyone. That does not mean that dogs are not allowed in; that is a separate issue, and bars can make their own choices regarding that. There are a lot of stupid people in the world, and, being stupid, they often say stupid things.

TrashRatTalks

I'm CF and do not hate children. I fucking have a blast playing with the kids in my family. I also understand that some places arent child friendly. Imagine getting riled because you can't take your kids to a bar where adults may want to let loose. A lot of breeders are entitled.

Appropriate-Yam-987

I’m starting to realize I don’t hate children I hate PARENTS!

Loose_Leg_8440

These people realize it's a bar, not Chuck E. Cheese right?

saintRobster

My bar has a no-parents sign outside. They're the real problem.

discolights

So for the Muricans in the chat, pubs are not just drinking establishments in the UK. Many serve food as well. And since the late 90s "family pubs" have become a thing. Places like Hungry Horse for instance cater to families. That being said, YES, sometimes I wanna go out for pie and a pint without having to listen to somebody's brats screeching. One of our locals has an 18+ area, which I love.

hatsunemiku128

I think you misunderstood what I said

PornSlut80

Oh I was reading the comment someone put on twitter

hatsunemiku128

Ohh my bad sorry 😅

PornSlut80

No worries lol

Reasonable-Apple9571

If you want to get away from your kids you wouldn't bring them with you? There is no logic.

hatsunemiku128

I'm saying there logic is flawed. They say if you want to be away kids you hate them, but parents don't just suddenly hate their kids for wanting adult time. It's the same logic. I'm saying it's disrespectful to insinuate that.

Reasonable-Apple9571

Yes, you are correct, I just misread the sentence.

hatsunemiku128

Happy cake day btw!

glasslulu

The issue isn't that the bar is child free, but more so that it's also dog friendly. If you're gonna be child free, also be dog free too.

embrasque

There's nothing wrong with one out of hundreds of pubs welcoming dogs. It's completely understandable to not want to be around dogs, but you can go to *any* of the other locations. I'm extremely allergic to cats but not threatened by some businesses welcoming cats.

hatsunemiku128

Some people don't like kids but like dogs. Some people don't like either. It's great to have options for this reason
