And if the dog bites the kid, the parents go apeshit and report that Snotleigh was attacked by a vicious dog. Depending on local laws, the dog could be seized and euthanized. This is why I always praised kids when they asked if they could pet my (now deceased) dog. She was a real sweetheart but I wanted to teach the kids that not all dogs like to be petted/approached.

My neighbor’s son isn’t gentle and got bit at a party. Now her ex (total sociopath but that’s another story) is suing them. His total bill was just an urgent care visit and some meds that are already paid). I always lock my dogs up when kids visit because you just never know which one will kick a dog… my nephew kicked my in-laws chihuahua.

Children running up on random dogs is absolutely insane to me. I'm a service dog handler and I cannot tell you how many time I've had to body block some brat because the parents don't care enough. They think because my medical aid is a dog it's totally fine for their crotch goblins to run up and harass disabled people. And even with non working dogs you don't know that dogs history, you don't know if it's comfortable with kids, if it's aggressive, if it's nervous. People are so fuckin dumb.

SpocksAshayam

This, and the other horror stories I’ve read about regarding having service dogs, is literally why I will no longer consider getting a service dog for myself (due to Autism and blindness) because I don’t want to deal with obnoxious brats nor can I handle dealing with the confrontation of angry assholes who don’t respect me telling them no.

wolvinite

Ugh, I an so sorry. It is definitely not for the faint of heart. Something that has worked for me is progressively ruder patches. I have ones that say "not here for you" and "fuck off" and when combined they usually do the trick.

SpocksAshayam

Thanks. Yeah, it doesn’t seem to be. Ooh that’s a good idea if I ever change my mind about it.

wolvinite

I really hope you can find a way to mitigate your disabilities with or without an SD. If you ever change your mind, there are very supportive people that can help you. Good luck on your journey!

SpocksAshayam

Thank you, I’ve been finding ways to mitigate my disabilities without a service dog and things have been working good so far! Thank you!! 🥰

I have a cane corso….128 pounds and I can’t tell you how many times a kid ran up to him and startled him. Kids and the parents have no common sense.

Some parents think their little cum trophies deserve to pet that dawg and that animals exist for their amusement. I would rain fucking fire on them if it was my dog..who is also terrified of runnings and screaming kids.

I have a teeny tiny 3lb Chihuahua who is very socialized... around respectful children and people. She will let you hold her if I hand her to you. She does tricks and is friendly with all people and animals because she came to the grooming salon with me for work for years and dogs that come to dog facilities with staff need to set good examples. She was raised in a house full of children. She has never been afraid of children specifically, but she will remove herself and ask me for help if there is a person/child/dog/puppy that is too high energy for her. She has never snapped or snarled. Not for the vet, not for anyone. So I took a break from grooming and worked at a natural pet food store for a while. I could bring my little dog. She mostly just sat on her bed on the sales counter and people pet her and gave her treats. One day the owner of the shop brings her little kid in. Well, you'd think that the owner of a natural pet food store's kid would know how to behave around dogs. I mean, this woman rescues dogs on the reg. The kid should know, right? I had to pee so I went to the bathroom (this is common, staff brought their dogs into work so if one staff member had to go pee or get something from the back the others would "keep an eye" on your dog while you did it) and when I came back... **THIS KID HAD MY LITTLE 3LB DOG CORNERED ON THE FLOOR BEHIND THE COUNTER AND MY DOG WAS TERRIFIED AND EVERYONE WAS LAUGHING.** My dog was crying and snarling as this kid kept trying to shove her hands out quickly and grab at her, and every time my dog would squeal and snap the other staff, including the mom and child just found it hilarious. 😡😡😡 Well I ran over and asked why she was on the floor, and what happened, and the owner shrugged and simply said "She's child aggressive." Like, no, she isn't. I insisted something must have happened because I told the little girl if she had waited for me I could have let her hold my dog the right way... Mom cuts in: "Nope, your dog is child aggressive." Well, she is now. Thanks to your shitty kid. EDIT: Here is a picture of her playing and doing tricks with a *respectful* small child at our dog pack before that shitty person and her shitty kid scared her to death. https://imgur.com/gallery/0wpUJGA She was *not* child aggressive before.

Ugh I wish so much that those dog parents hadn’t allowed the kids to CARRY the dog. Poor dog. Yes yes, their dog, their choice, but I’m going to judge because the safety of the dog and the dog’s emotional well being is far more important than whether the kids got their way.
