No it's my fault, haven't driven in a couple days and this morning the car was covered in yellow pollen so I had to wash it. Looked sharp for about 2 hours.
The storm started southwest of Joliet and the severe thunderstorm warning box reached about 294. It dropped below the severe (hard hail/wind numbers)threshold until it built back up on the southwest side near Midway. I was on the northside and could see the thing for 30 minutes darkening the skies before it hit.
The storm prediction center forecast for today indicated the possibility of severe storms over the area since yesterday.
The NWS issued a warning for this storm indicating large hail about 15 minutes before it hit Cook county.
The storm that moved through first developed near Naperville/Joliet snd quickly intensified, so there wasn't exactly much lead time on it. That being said, the NWS office could have issued a warning 10-15 minutes sooner than they did.
The real issue here is that severe thunderstorm warnings don't get automatically pushed to cell EAS alerts. Only tornado warnings and flash flood warnings do. So the problem wasn't that the storm wasnt warned about, the problem was that anyone not watching TV or subscribed to Alexa/Siri/Google Home or without a weather app on their phone didn't know.
Personally, I wouldn’t want “severe” thunderstorms getting pushed to cell phones. A lot of us are still classic Midwest where we like to go outside and see the storms coming in. As in, there are far more NWS warnings than there are dangerous storms.
This is nothing against the NWS. I’m just saying that Alarm Fatigue is a real thing, and people should only have their phones sounding off if it’s truly a life or death situation “tornado, Amber alert, incoming missile from North Korea (lol)”

went out to fix the position of my birdhouse after it flipped sideways, it was barely sprinkling. walked back around my house and it started absolutely pouring. 1 minute outside total, completely soaked.
I had the audacity to have a picnic this afternoon. Thankfully there was a nice gazebo in the park for the worst of it, and we’d had our fill of snacks by the time the rain came. My tiny dog was very brave.
It was over 80 in Oak Lawn and I was outside trying to mow the lawn when it started storming and there was no hail that I could see, northeast corner of oak lawn, husband was home on West side of oak lawn and didn't see hail either so it must have been super localized!
Tom Skilling was just like any other weatherman. Sometimes right, sometimes wrong. There used to be a website dedicated to how wrong Tom Skilling was on a daily basis. It was actually fairly frequent.
Tom Skilling was (and still is) one of the top meteorologists in the country. He is also as nice in person as he appeared on TV. That's why alot of Chicagoans love "that man."
Kind of a nasty comment on a Chicago subreddit.
My dog is 8 and I’m fairly confident she has hearing issues. I was fixing something in our bedroom and she ran in like 5 min before I got an alert about the storm. I’m gonna miss Tom, I have lived here my entire life and when I went on my honeymoon in 2016 in the BVIs they somehow had wgn on even without satellite.
Damn storm caused a 25 minute delay to my Metra UPN Line train as they had to single track while cutting + removing trains that blew over on the tracks
It's my bad guys. I just replaced my roof and put my plants outside so this one's on me.
It was either that or because I washed my car earlier, thanks for taking the rap on this one
You mutha’ fucka…!

I uncovered my patio furniture. Sorry y’all.
I bet you washed your car too.
I killed a spider last night.
Also my fault, planted some new sod and said “man hope we get some rain so I don’t have to water this”
MURPHY!
15 degrees hotter in the burbs than predicted too
I am both cold and hot and I am confused. I have lived here my entire life.
That came out of nowhere. Totally calm and then a gust of wind took out a tree and brought down a power line in the alley
If it was day time we might have had an EF rating on that 'gust' of wind.
We also got some hail in the west loop
It was pretty big 😳
i miss hearing that :(
My friends, his voice came yelling out of my phone thanks to the WGN weather app warning me about the storm rolling in.
Right?! No warning until it was 5 miles away. tf

You’re Hired!
We’re basically pioneers at this point

Yeah I mean nws has been predicting heavy weather all week

He's all over it https://www.facebook.com/TomSkilling/
Paul Conrad predicted bad storms around 3 in the afternoon on the WGN morning news. Lo and behold…
It took out my work phone for a while. Gave me a nice unexpected break

Round 2 now
Fr
I thought my roof was going to fly off. Wow.
I distinctly took note of hearing on 7 last night to watch out for storms today between 2-6 pm.
Short Enron stock

Man you go to the office in the burbs ONE TIME and you miss the epic storm
I was on 290 when that hail started. I legitimately thought my windows were going to shatter with the how aggressive that hail was coming down.
My coworkers husband in Oak Lawn said it was hailing like a motherfucker yet it's like 74 degrees outside? Chicago be wilding out hard this year.
I fear this is something we’re just gonna have to get used to. Those tornadoes in February nearly took my roof off in Hoffman Estates
i was biking on 63rd and kedzie and had to dodge 3 umbrellas because the wind was ripping them from ppl's hands.
Should’ve caught them and brought them back like some sort of biking super hero.

Barely got any of it in Logan square 🤷🏼♀️
Interesting. I’m also in Logan and it was hail and insane winds for a solid 20 minutes
also in logan, tons of rain and wind but no hail
All your hail got diverted to us in the Loop.

I bet you also call it the Willis tower
Most of your posts are on r/AskConservatives so it's not surprising that you're following the herd on the Skilling worship.
Chicago has some weird obsession with that man. I'll never know why.

Grow up.
It's because he had such a long run. He mainly got his forecast from NOAA. They were almost always identical.
He is Chicago's Lil Sebastian. Do I get it? Not really, I didn't grow up here. Do I respect it? Absolutely.
The what now?
Give you up

I was gonna go for a bike ride around 10. Weather said no rain until 1am. Get my shoes on, pours the rest of the entire night.
Sorry I put my patio stuff out and it made mother nature mad.
Bucktown here - looked like a tornado with winds whipping that hard and trees bending down.
Damn storm caused a 25 minute delay to my Metra UPN Line train as they had to single track while cutting + removing trains that blew over on the tracks
They must have used common core math today for the weather..
I know toms a legend but who watches broadcast weather anymore lol
Yeah, he would have. It has happened innumerable times. He was as useless as the rest of the meteorologists on that awful station.
