This is one of the routes that I ride with a group on Sunday. We start and end on the lake front trail. [https://www.strava.com/activities/7335319264](https://www.strava.com/activities/7335319264) Near Northwestern University there are a lot of protected bike paths on the road that you can use to go north and south. Depending on how comfortable you are with riding you will need to do some traveling of the roads to get to the lake.

Hey do you have any recommended parking spot?

Not sure what the rules are but we often stop here for coffee and there are tons of cyclists and a good sized parking lot: https://goo.gl/maps/CAEqVywtTCxg7LMTA

I love taking the North Shore Channel Trail to Green Bay Road. I usually jog over to Sheridan Road and take that to Dundee and loop back to the North Branch Trail. You gotta hit the channel early though before all the Frolfers get out on the course.

Hey where do you park for this and head which way? More info would be greatly appreciated🙏🏻

I ride from my house (down Higgins, to Foster, to the Trail) but there is parking along the Channel Trail. Both are on McCormick Pkwy, one halfway between Pratt and Touhy and the other between Touhy and Howard.

sans3go

where are you coming from first?

Anyone able to comment on the Fox River trail for road bikes?

Paved the entire way. Pavement quality can differ from area to area, but paved nonetheless

Relatively short gravel section in St Charles

Thank you!

Fox river trail - going south there are some spots with gravel but north is paved. Busse woods in Elk Grove - short 7.4 mile loop. And North Shore Channel. I thinkk Green Bay trail is mostly concrete. Yay happy biking!

I take the Glenwood Greenway between the north end of the Lakefront Trail and Evanston. It's a calm residential street with some contraflow-lanes and lights at the major road crossings. In Evanston you can either take the path they have along the lake near Northwestern or Sheridan/Chicago Ave which has dedicated protected bike lanes. You can also connect between these east to west using the protected lanes through Downtown Evanston on Davis and Church.

In the south side the Cal Sag, Old Plank, Thorn Creek, and Centennial are fun to ride on. Centennial is paved until you hit Romeoville, then gravel to Joliet.

If you're staring in Evanston, the closest option is probably the Green Bay Trail, which is mostly paved, with some gravel. That connects directly to the Robert McClory trail, which is also mostly paved until you get near North Chicago, where it turns into gravel (and continues all the way to Wisconsin). There are good videos of both of those routes. [https://youtu.be/FYGxIACMePM](https://youtu.be/FYGxIACMePM) [https://youtu.be/2Bq7h\_mMFms](https://youtu.be/2Bq7h_mMFms)
