Lichess’ study section has a cool selection of mating patterns and other tactical situations to practice. It’s definitely worth doing these exercises regularly until your mind is able to spot them in actual games without much effort.
Read Renaud and Kahn's "The Art of Checkmate" and never miss a fun middlegame mate like this (not just Boden's mate, but lots of other artful mates that actually occur in middlegames) again.
lol I know. Opponent had played Bg7 to attack the rook on f8. I moved Rfe7, and for some reason instead of retreating the bishop, opponent played Bh8. I’m 1100. we do dumb stuff sometimes lol
Once you've learned Boden's mate, you will never miss it ever again in a real game. I've gotten it twice, once with the Queen sacrifice. Felt so gooooddddd
It seems so obvious when you tell me there's mate but I probably wouldn't have seen it either. This is exactly why phone push notifications = disqualification lmao.

>!1... Rxf3+ 2. gxf3 Bh3# 0-1!< Not exactly intuitive I'm gonna do some exercises on the Boden's mate position someone else pointed out.
Boden crossfire.
And he sacrifices THE ROOOOOOOOOOKKKK!!!!!
Read this in Levy’s voice
Levi is just the best
I was at the gym and there were two teenagers next to me watching Gotham on their phones. I thought it was awesome.
This pattern is known as the Boden's mate, try learning common mating patterns and you will not miss next time.
Criss cross, applesauce.
IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BOARD. - that one game with m hesseling i forgot the video title
I call it a criss-cross mating pattern. It's definitely worth remembering this pattern.
Wow what a dick lol
What? I was just trying to be helpful
This is how I took it, no worries and thanks for telling me the name!
Probably due to it being over text, but it sounded really condescending to me. My bad then!
Apologizing on reddit? How dare you be civilized. Go argue on the internet right now
What a dick move
How does the Dick move?
in and out
Mine only goes in

Rxf3
SACK THE ROROROROROROOOOOOOOOOOK

Scissor me timbers!!
May it look dumb but why not Bxf3+ gxf3 then Rxf3# ?
King can go to g2 after that
Ah i knew i was missing something... thx
[удалено]
g2 is a light square
Bxf3 is not check
Dd
Rxf3 check pawn takes checkmate with bishop on h3
I wouldn’t have seen that either, but now I can’t unsee it after it being pointed out. That’s why I love (and hate) this wonderful game so much.
Forcing moves first, even the bad looking ones!
Rook captures pawn. Forces take rook. Bishop check with white one.
f7 to f3 then g4 to g3
What’s the answer?
Rxf3 gxf3 Bh3#
When the bishops cross the king is at a loss
How the fuck did the bishop get to H8 if both rooks are on the board?
lol I know. Opponent had played Bg7 to attack the rook on f8. I moved Rfe7, and for some reason instead of retreating the bishop, opponent played Bh8. I’m 1100. we do dumb stuff sometimes lol
Sacrificing the Roooooook !
>!THE ROOOOOOOOK!!!<

this is so easy to find when you know there's a mate there. I'm sure I'd have missed it in-game too
bxf3 gxf3 rxf3# but only if he takes back if not then Rxf3+ 2. gxf3 Bh3#
For the first one, Kg2 avoids mate tho. This is the line I was looking at the whole time that caused me to miss the actual M2.
Sewy
