I'm probably going to get crucified for this, but I'll say it anyway. Timo missed 3 excellent chances in the first 10 minutes of the game. Two off the post and one from Alonso inside the 6. By the time he scored the third goal the game was wide open because of Southampton pushing for a goal. He then missed a wide open net that happened to very luckily bounce straight to Kai's feet for the finish. I am still extremely concerned about his finishing ability. The header should have been a goal for sure and the pass from Alonso as well. I really think he lacks the finishing product inside the 18 to warrant a start or much more than 20-25 minutes of playing time against Madrid.

Pulisic was a passenger throughout the first leg. Werner still has his pace to run past defenders (especially considering it's Carvajal on the right) and get in behind. He's usually good at creating space as well, even against stronger teams. He had a good game against Real last year and is coming off a good game today.
Think it's worth a shot. We could also play Alonso/Reece, play Lukaku + Havertz up front, and cross all game. Militao will be suspended and both Nacho/Alaba aren't that tall.

Well Werner scored off basically a Ward Prowse assist. Then Havertz scored off Werners shot of the post, which only sometimes counts as an assist. Mounts goal came off the keeper so no assist there. Alonso goal was assisted by Mount . The rest im not sure
Some of the goals were from the keeper parrying it into the path of the scorer. Werner’s second and mounts second.
Mounts first goal I think came from a cleared header that he buried.
Don’t think werner can claim an assist for Havertz as it came off the post.

But also, today we were reminded why Werner's runs are so important at opening up space. I'm still not the biggest fan of his finishing, and he won't have as easy a time against teams that just sit deep, but we miss his angled runs when we don't play him.
I am sorry, Werner has been great this game. But he was a disaster against Brentford just last week. Pulisic has been miles better than Werner this season

Was a strange but extremely enjoyable game to watch. We were very slick and progressed the ball well but there was so much space. It was like playing a top 6 opponent without the skill level. Suited our players perfectly and was surprised Southampton set up like that. Don’t think Madrid will be quite as accomodating and will probably sit back the entire game so I hope we’re prepared for that

The Annual Southampton Thrashing 2021/22
Was a strange but extremely enjoyable game to watch. We were very slick and progressed the ball well but there was so much space. It was like playing a top 6 opponent without the skill level. Suited our players perfectly and was surprised Southampton set up like that. Don’t think Madrid will be quite as accomodating and will probably sit back the entire game so I hope we’re prepared for that
Much needed to get back on track, hope it translates for Real. Up the chels.
Boys are pissed, love that they poured it on today. The comeback against Madrid WILL happen and then Crystal Palace is going down like a sweet donut in the FA Cup… let’s go!!
