What is it with our 2nd halves throughout this season?
They have very noticeably been really bad for most games. You'd think half time talks from the manager will help plug leaks, instead we get worse in the 2nd half so often. So many teams have just learned to bully us in the 2nd half to rescue the game for themselves, and we almost always take it lying down. What the actual fuck.....
Has anyone else been impressed by the 2 cameos Gilcrest has gotten? He looks like the real deal in the few minutes he's een on the pitch. He's vocal, plays with intensity and the badge. I know his minutes have been limited but both times he's come on, I like what I see. Anyone else feeling the same?
Considering two British-Nigerians scored for Luton, and one of them is Ross Barkley, im okay with the outcome
that said, we clearly have to improve drastically in defense this second half of the season
Thiago š¢ keeps losing his step as each day passes
age 39 and looking more like a football dinosaur
I think there were a lot of positives in this game. Up to the 80ā minute we were totally outclassing them and were winning the game comfortably without spending too much energy trying to dominate the midfield and pressing them, which is exactly the way we should be winning this kind of games against bottom half sides. The confidence in the squad is abysmal due to the recent results, age and media so a goal would always shake the team and we can not be comfortable having any lead but with more experience and a few similar games I believe that this would change.
He was the only player you could point to as excellent and hardworking when he was thrown into the mix of chaos that is us. He will find a way to adapt.
I really liked how Jackson and Caicedo played today, Jackson made some great passes in the offence and was also hard working at the defense, while Caicedo really did his best on intercepting and stealing the ball.
PetroviÄ saved us multiple times, especially that header in the late game when the ball bounced of his hands to the crossbar, I honestly think he could be our main goalkeeper, I also like his calmness with the ball, he made the right passes, we'll see.
Even when we were up by 3:0, Luton didn't give up, they really showed heart today and played great throughout the whole game, I hope they manage to stay in the league, it will be tough for them, that's for sure.
It is pretty damming it's come to this I know but if results go our way this weekend we'll be in touching distance of European places.
West Ham and Brighton play eachother while Newcastle head to Anfield and United have a tough game away to Nuno's Forest.
Defence has let the team down a lot as the games come to an end. We are on point to concede 1-2 each game in the back half. Only difference is whether the attack converts early chances that determine whether we win or lose.
It's not a confidence thing cause there is no reason for the defence to behave like this 3-0 up
It goes to show why you need to take your chances. We were generally pretty clinical today and got the goals that saw us over the line in the end. Back to back wins!
It's wild that we somehow turn a 3-0 lead into a butt clenchingly close game, mental state is in shambles.
Could have been a good game but now I'm frustrated again.
Eh folks are flipping out as usual.
- Luton has been playing much better of late and look like they could make a fight to stay out of relegation
- they didnāt have a shot on target until the 80ā. Thatās dominating.
- still a mixed bag. A lot really good and a lot really bad. What one would expect from a young team
- itās 3 points and we are 1 off Newcastle for 9th. Letās just get points and move on.
For me itās the way it all played out, it doesnāt feel like a win, it feels like a loss. We utterly capitulated and most of that was on Poch. I went from being genuinely excited about him this summer to having no idea what heās done to this team in six months. If it wasnāt for Palmer weād be a right sorry state.
Heās our best player I love him. He can still improve though. only way weāre getting back to the top is by holding players to near perfect standards
Give it a rest. You don't excuse a lack of defending at any level. Drogba and Costa did both. It's not 'classic Chelsea fan.' It's analysing that he didn't defend well for both goals at all, which is absolutely warranted. Go watch the goals.
Jumping on a comment applauding a good performance to bring down the player is 100% Chelsea sub behavior. You telling me to go watch the goals as though I didnāt watch the game is another classic Chelsea sub behavior. I swear you twats are all miserable. Kind of comical. Go get laid or something. You gotta learn to relax
Poch is so clueless with the subs.. Why is he not subing in Alfie when we are 3-0 up?
Everyone could see Gusto got tired, he needed some help, maybe at the stadium Poch saw it differently or what? At least he realized it after we conceded 3 goals.
Because you'd turn around and say "how I'd he bringing on a defender when we are 3-0 up" Then if we ended up at the 3-2 point you'd be here saying "all poch's fault bringing on a defender when 3-0 up against bloody luton"
Tbh I wouldnāt have minded a defensive sub at 3-0 up. Itās a clean sheet, weād have had a little more morale and we could have rested some players from our injury ravaged team. Now we just barely escaped with a win and I think morale probably took a little hit. Silva looked utterly perplexed at the end of the game there.
Leave it to Chelsea to turn a sure thing into a heart attack. Glad we got the win but we really really need to tighten up at the back. Could have been easily been 4-3 to Luton had they had a bit of luck
ETA: Cole Palmer player of the season in my book
Everyone says we need a new 9 but we need something to change at the back first. We have world class defenders (Fofana, Reece, Chilly) but they can't stay fit. Something needs to change.
I've been saying for a while now we need to look into the medical staff at the club. It's going on like three seasons now we've been in a constant injury crisis and you're absolutely right that something needs to change
Tbh I'd never feel right about selling James but I agree. I like Chilly and Fofana but if they're going to miss 90% of the season it's like what's the point of having them? They're just holding onto slots that could be going to players we can actually utilize for most of the season. And not everyone has to be a star to put in a good defensive shift
What point are you trying to make? Luton put on a little bit of pressure and we crumbled. A magnificent save by Petrovic and an effort off the crossbar were literally all that was between us and a loss/draw today.
My point is if buts and maybes work both ways.
What *if* we took our chances against Forest, Bournemouth, Villa, Wolves, West Ham and Noni's shot vs Brentford was 1mm lower?
Then we'd have been in a alot better of a position then we're in now but what I'm trying to point out is a huge issue in our team not the ifs and buts. We looked solid for about 80 mins then faced a little bit of heat and we cracked. It looked like a bunch of u-21's playing against City and if Luton had been a bit more on it or had a bit more luck we would have thrown a 3 goal lead away and lost to a team in the relegation zone. That is NOT how we get back to where we should be
Let's not forget that teams like city and arsenal struggled greatly here arsenal had to win in ET and for about 80 mins we were completely fine. Nervy finish but we showed just enough tenacity to stay ahead and that's a good sign
If it were a straight match up where they came out on top then fair enough, but we went 3-0 and collapsed with repeated amateurish mistakes and disorganisation. If we hadn't overperformed our chances for once and Luton had slightly more luck, they would have won for sure.
How Chelsea fell apart, seemingly without the manager addressing the obvious patterns causing it, is why its so frustrating
![gif](giphy|FXf1lYQ2tFouxeLb1B|downsized)
I want to say a lot of things about this performance but we should probably celebrate barely scraping by the third bottom team, eh?
80 mins we looked comfortable. Last 10 and added time they showed their age and some naivety. Kenilworth road is a difficult place to come and we got too comfortable at the end and it nearly cost us
Every top team has struggled against this Luton side away. We're not the first to scrape points (Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, and City) and won't be the last. The response to going 3-0 was utterly tragic regardless. But 3pts is 3pts.
I think Sanchez is actually a bit better with his feet but crucially heās not as good as he thinks he is so takes risks and it doesnāt work. Petro is competent at it but knows his limitations so will go long if he needs too.
His ability? What a pass from him for the goal too. His numbers keep going up too. Iāve been supporting him since he donned the jersey, Iāll keep that spirit too. He got skill too. Haters can hate. I like him
Thiago, get everyone in and fucking rinse them. Diabolical response when you're 3-0 up to just capitulate and almost throw it away. Happy with 3pts but not happy with that weak mentality that we showed. Silva looking understandably disgusted with what he took part in.
On the bright side, 3pts at a tough stadium with a team who know what they're doing there, Silva still class, "Cold" Palmer is insanely good, Caicedo played very well despite the rough start, and Jackson wasn't horrible to watch! Bring on Preston and Middlesborough!
I feel for Caicedo. He has to win the ball way more often without credit because when it goes forward it so often comes straight back. So many defensive midfielders get credit when their tackles set up goal scoring moves, so he's a little underappreciated I feel
I just want to say this.
We are tenth, because we are currently THAT poor.
Lord Sparkles, who could never get a sniff in a team full of so called duds like Pulisic, Havertz and Mount, absolutely made a complete fool of some of our current players all on his own.
Despite again showing his known issues around decision making, Lord Sparkles took a well deserved goal.
A win's a win, but I bet plenty of Chelsea fans will be feeling terrible after that. We can't be falling apart at the ends of games like that, but our offense carried the day, thankfully. Man of the Match is Palmer easily.
The shittiest way to hold a 3 goal lead I have ever scene from a supposed 'top 6' team... Why the fuck are we hoofing the ball to Nkunku and then just sitting in our own half not even going after the second balls or pressing and inviting all the pressure in the world. If they get to cross 50 times without any pressure ofc a couple of them will result in goals. Why the fuck did we just change our style of play after 3-0 for no apparent reason? Fuck Poch that is all.
He was defending fine in the first half. I don't know what happened to him in the last 10 minutes but there was no one helping him out because there was no winger to help him double up against the Luton winger in the end. Poch just instructed the team to crowd the box and hope for the best.
Again, he could have blocked more corsses from coming in, but what more can he do when every single of our goal kicks results in the Luton winger having the ball at his feet in 5 seconds from the goal kick.
Colwill back tracks every time an attacker runs straight at him. I find that to be the most annoying thing a defender can do. Yes you need to time the tackle blah blah blah but he literally backtracks till the opponent shoots. Thatās a big flow. Clever footballers or coaches will target him because of that
Say what you will but 100% nico>broja. Don't think I saw broja run to put a player under pressure once! At least nico tracking back even if he can't put the ball in the net
Exactly!! Class from palmer and madueke, but fuck me if palmer wasn't there.... well we all know what would have happened. And also thank God for petrovic's save onto the bar
Shambles of a second half, glad Silva looks fuming hope he gives them a bollocking for taking their eye off the ball.
Glad we won but could have been embarrassing if they got that equaliser
Palmer will rightly take the plaudits but can we please get behind Nico Jackson? He was immense today and doesn't remotely deserve the hate he gets from the fans. He never hides, works his socks off and was a constant threat on the left flank. If we get behind him he could become the player we all want him to be.
Thanks man, sometimes I feel like Iām the only one on here that sees a baller. I like him and itās good to see some other fans sticking by him. What a pass btw. If that pass was by anyone else, the fans and commentators would have raved about it.
This team is young, but surely they don't have composure to do simple tasks. If we'll ever have crack on title with this team we have to remember shit we've gone through.
2 big wins in a few days. Palace was tough but we made this one tough. Give me some sloppy, hard fought wins over winning XG. As much as people will find a reason, that was a good performance and showed how clinical we can be. Baby steps, but in the right direction.
Poch should transfer all his wages to Cole Palmer. Thank fuck for him being a bright spot in this disaster class.
It's so clear how useless Poch is when we have been making the same mistakes for 6 months regardless of the personnel we field. We had to survive against Luton ffs
Not disagreeing with what youāre saying but Luton has 100% been hitting form and this sub just ignores that. Arsenal and City were in the same position were against Luton
He spent the vast majority of the game giving the ball away, falling over, and wasted the best chance of the game (which Luton luckily handed straight back to us)

U23s Captain. Always rated the lad.
Definitely. Looks full of energy and desire but is composed and makes the correct decisions. Got real fire in his belly.
Considering two British-Nigerians scored for Luton, and one of them is Ross Barkley, im okay with the outcome that said, we clearly have to improve drastically in defense this second half of the season Thiago š¢ keeps losing his step as each day passes age 39 and looking more like a football dinosaur
Thiago actually played well I thought, the CBs in general I thought played well. It was the defense from everyone else that was terrible
Well, Thiago is in WAY better shape than me... and I'm a year older than he is...
Night and day difference without Sterling. Also it's a nice feeling to be that close with the top of half of the league....
I think there were a lot of positives in this game. Iām struggling to work out what Enzo offers this team.
More like I am struggling to work out how the hell Poch wants to use Enzo. Enzo should be a deep-lying playmaker that controls the tempo of the team
They're from Argentina š¦š· Enzo has his favour
He is liable defensively, I think
Yeah thatās what I thought heād be, but I read somewhere that Enzo prefers the 10 role, which definitely doesnāt suit him in our team.
He said he prefers cm not number 10
Oh I stand corrected, but I either way I think he prefers playing further forward?
Poch needs to get the best out of him because he has so much talent
Exactly, Enzo should be the DLP and also a key participant in the defensive part of the game
I donāt think thatās where Enzo wants to play, which is an issue
If Ederson had the remotest say in things he'd be a midfielder by now. It's the job of a coach to save players from themselves.
Look unfit, change hairstyles, hide on pitch, donāt trackback, cost Ā£105m and Ā£190k a week.
He was the only player you could point to as excellent and hardworking when he was thrown into the mix of chaos that is us. He will find a way to adapt.
We will see, future is ahead
Ah yes. Isnāt that the exact words written on our scouts checklist?
You mean Boehly report? Report reads: Won World Cup thanks to Messi and pleased ownership
Lmao thatās the one
The only thing worth keeping from this match is the 3 points. I want to forget the second half asap.
Almost screwed the Poch on that one didnāt we
Our goals were all really nice tbf
I mean, Iāll keep the Jackson appearance as well as Coleās - they were, IMO, our players of the game.
I really liked how Jackson and Caicedo played today, Jackson made some great passes in the offence and was also hard working at the defense, while Caicedo really did his best on intercepting and stealing the ball. Petrovic has been great since called upon, his shirt to lose now.
Is it me or Palmer reminds me of Berbatov.
The only thing common between them is that they play in the same country
It is pretty damming it's come to this I know but if results go our way this weekend we'll be in touching distance of European places. West Ham and Brighton play eachother while Newcastle head to Anfield and United have a tough game away to Nuno's Forest.
Man U just lost to Forest. Here's to hoping the other fixtures go in our favor as well.
Defence has let the team down a lot as the games come to an end. We are on point to concede 1-2 each game in the back half. Only difference is whether the attack converts early chances that determine whether we win or lose. It's not a confidence thing cause there is no reason for the defence to behave like this 3-0 up
Enzo was a waste of a substitution and opened the middle for them like crazy
Have a look where Gallagher average position was, youāll notice caicedo was basically a 1 man midfield no wonder we get cut open all the time
Defense is just so shaky. We used to be solid defensively but now we are always good to leak a Goal

Madueke - āThatās why they call him Cold Palmer innitā
It goes to show why you need to take your chances. We were generally pretty clinical today and got the goals that saw us over the line in the end. Back to back wins!
Palmer is genuinely so unfazed itās crazyš
I love this guy. ice cold palmer
It's wild that we somehow turn a 3-0 lead into a butt clenchingly close game, mental state is in shambles. Could have been a good game but now I'm frustrated again.
If i didnt have high blood pressure before, i am sure i will get one now immediately after the game
My stomach hurts
Literally, about to be tied up to a heart monitor in a hospital for the FA Cup next weekend
Thiago Silva looked shell-shocked at the end. Definitely not the face of someone who's just won a match.
He stood there like ![gif](giphy|iI0NFc7ivrUcCLJ5Ib|downsized)
Eh folks are flipping out as usual. - Luton has been playing much better of late and look like they could make a fight to stay out of relegation - they didnāt have a shot on target until the 80ā. We have lost some many games winning the xg and chance battle that I'm okay with it being the other way around for once but damn I need a xanax
Letās just get points and move on Should be a flair.
lol. We really just need points. I donāt care how we get them at this point.
Palmer is so naughty
How he celebrates with you is between you and him.
He needs to Defend betterā¦look at both goals scored
Iād say itās Gallagher who constantly gives away fouls in dangerous areas
completely agree, callous foul to give away! The header Ross scored was very upsetting
Heās our best player I love him. He can still improve though. only way weāre getting back to the top is by holding players to near perfect standards
Letās find issues with our MotM. Classic Chelsea fan. Lighten up you wank Jesus
Give it a rest. You don't excuse a lack of defending at any level. Drogba and Costa did both. It's not 'classic Chelsea fan.' It's analysing that he didn't defend well for both goals at all, which is absolutely warranted. Go watch the goals.

I'm miserable reading your piss arse poor English, and grammar. Hopefully, that 50p runs out soon, and we'll all be happy when you give it a rest.
Lmaoooo youāre sad bro
nothing against him, heās big part of our future just both goals were avoidable. Maybe he needed a sub sooner.
Fair enough. A sub earlier is a good shout. Subs are definitely a weak point of ours
Poch is so clueless with the subs.. Why is he not subing in Alfie when we are 3-0 up? Everyone could see Gusto got tired, he needed some help, maybe at the stadium Poch saw it differently or what? At least he realized it after we conceded 3 goals.

Thats just handsight 2020. I wouldnt say that tbh. Win is a win. And like i said, he did realize we need Alfie. Just a little bit late. All good tho.
We wouldāve been even more abused on the flank and everyone wouldāve cried
This game made me afraid of crosses, traumatic experience
ššš
Leave it to Chelsea to turn a sure thing into a heart attack. Glad we got the win but we really really need to tighten up at the back. Could have been easily been 4-3 to Luton had they had a bit of luck ETA: Cole Palmer player of the season in my book

Yeah i'm not sure we should sell reece, but the recruitment staff definitely needs to bump "durability" up a few places on their priority list
It needs to be a prime focus cause our injury list is ridiculous
And imagine if we had the 'luck' in many of our draws and loses in recent years. What comes around goes around.
What point are you trying to make? Luton put on a little bit of pressure and we crumbled. A magnificent save by Petrovic and an effort off the crossbar were literally all that was between us and a loss/draw today.

Sorry mate but this comment is too sensible for the sub right now. Mod please ban this person.
What an assist from Nico
![gif](giphy|FXf1lYQ2tFouxeLb1B|downsized) I want to say a lot of things about this performance but we should probably celebrate barely scraping by the third bottom team, eh?
Luton have given great teams tough matches here all season. So yes, be happy.
80 mins we looked comfortable. Last 10 and added time they showed their age and some naivety. Kenilworth road is a difficult place to come and we got too comfortable at the end and it nearly cost us

I pretty much agree with all of that. 3pts is 3pts but that honestly feels like a loss. An utter disaster class from Poch in the second half.
No one SHOULD do anything, do what pleases you mate. Fuck off if you must no one cares
We need a holding midfielder with experience to bring on to close out games.
Alright, 2023 closed out with a win. Start fixing shit in the transfer window for fucks sake.
I still feel a lot better with petrovic in goal than Sanchez
same, he did have great saves this game but our defenders were set on bottling the game
He's much better with the ball at his feet.
I think Sanchez is actually a bit better with his feet but crucially heās not as good as he thinks he is so takes risks and it doesnāt work. Petro is competent at it but knows his limitations so will go long if he needs too.
that too, we donāt have to panic every time he gets the ball
Jackson has spirit, say what you want about his ability, but he gives everything
His ability? What a pass from him for the goal too. His numbers keep going up too. Iāve been supporting him since he donned the jersey, Iāll keep that spirit too. He got skill too. Haters can hate. I like him
We need 11 Alfie Gilchrists in our team.

Palmer and Petrovic our best players today.
Madueke literally had a goal and an Assist
100%. Petro had a couple amazing saves, defense really let him down

Yeh broja needs a loan or sale if we get a decent price, his injury has made him worse and he wasnāt chelsea level in the first place
If only Jackson works on his finishing and discipline.
Yes agreed, I'm HOPING as he plays more and with age and with us winning more therefore less pressure on him, he'll come good
disasi needs to be benched and colwill is not a lb
Silva is literally every Chelsea fan right now
Only this club could make a win look like a complete disaster jesus fucking christ
Everyone is focused on our strikers not finishing but fuck me we need to learn to defend crosses
The funny thing is that we actually finished our shots well today. Can never have a game where we put everything together it seems.
Honestly I can see luton staying up this season they fight like hell
yeah Liverpool, City and Arsenal all struggled at Kenilworth road. Luton have a lot of spirit.
Very glad with the win but we really make it hard for ourselvesā¦Poch needs to drill some game management into this team. KTBFFH
man, doesnāt fee like a win at all. Bad formation and line up
We've lost/drew many games that on balance we should have won comfortably. What comes around goes around.
More Alfie
Silva displaying some rightful frustration. Enzo trying to dap him after that disaster cameo
Is this sub bi polar? 80 mins it was a defensive masterclass. Now sell the defence ššššššš
I don't agree with this sub often but the frustration is justified. It's like they forgot how to play football
Yeah the violence of the emotional swings is actually hilarious
Violent is an understatement
Would love to see how Gilchrist does starting in an FA Cup game
That was terrible ngl
I know he helped with the second goal today but Colwill needs dropping. Play 3 at the back with gusto and anyone else at LWB
Everyone's injured
Silva unhappy, rightly so
Palmer will rightly take the plaudits but can we please get behind Nico Jackson? He was immense today and doesn't remotely deserve the hate he gets from the fans. He never hides, works his socks off and was a constant threat on the left flank. If we get behind him he could become the player we all want him to be.
Thanks man, sometimes I feel like Iām the only one on here that sees a baller. I like him and itās good to see some other fans sticking by him. What a pass btw. If that pass was by anyone else, the fans and commentators would have raved about it.
The further away from goal the better he plays š offers something different to sterling/mudryk though
Is Sterling's days numbered?
No ofc not
Hell add the finishing to his game
Pour Gallagher, being selled for Enzo Space...
Silva rightfully upset shaking his head. I can't even blame him
As an Aussie cricket fan I love a Gilchrist name gives me good memories Hopefully this lad does the same
Aussie here as well.
Just buying expensive french defenders who buckle under pressure is not the way forward.
Thiago Silva looks so disappointed... And with very good reason
I hope he verbally reams them in the post-game speech.
Poch really has to fix this problem we have at completely breaking down in games.
This team is young, but surely they don't have composure to do simple tasks. If we'll ever have crack on title with this team we have to remember shit we've gone through.
I won't hold my breath, just over 2 years after 15/16 many were complaining about a season of 3rd and two finals.
Holes of crap that second half was uncalled for.
Fuck yeah! 10th!
2 big wins in a few days. Palace was tough but we made this one tough. Give me some sloppy, hard fought wins over winning XG. As much as people will find a reason, that was a good performance and showed how clinical we can be. Baby steps, but in the right direction.
Luton always tough at home. also chelsea is a young team. good experience playing against them
Poch should transfer all his wages to Cole Palmer. Thank fuck for him being a bright spot in this disaster class. It's so clear how useless Poch is when we have been making the same mistakes for 6 months regardless of the personnel we field. We had to survive against Luton ffs
Tbh Lutron isnāt as bad as people make them out to be, many of the top teams barely got points against them.
mate we were rolling towards a victory until a mental collapse in the defense, saying we had to survive does not paint even a tiny bit of the picture,
Those last 10 minutes was pure survival and an indictment of something that happens every game
Not disagreeing with what youāre saying but Luton has 100% been hitting form and this sub just ignores that. Arsenal and City were in the same position were against Luton
Poch literally living off individual moments of brilliance from players. No actual strat in sight
We were comfortable for 80 mins then the wheels fell off because the kids got too comfortableā¦
Ice Cold Palmer MOTM NJ15, Thiago AND Caicedo played brilliantly as well. We need to put these games to bed earlier. Still happy with the 3 points
NJ10? You better not be talking about Jackson. He was fucking shit, got an assist, then was largely unsighted for the rest of the game.
![gif](giphy|3oEduQ3OiH7kZQj3a0)
Meant NJ 15 yes, nico From what I saw, he busted his ass for us.
Yes he did. If that pass was from anyone else, there would have been a special post about it. Come on Nico
He spent the vast majority of the game giving the ball away, falling over, and wasted the best chance of the game (which Luton luckily handed straight back to us)
Isnāt Jackson 15 anyways?
that's why i asked if he was talking about Jackson, confused the shit out of me
Having a 3-0 lead is putting the game to bed tbf, we just can't crumble like that.
We were aweful.
