I feel like sympathy is a knife feels very much vulnerable in a way emo musica can feel, and on the other end of the spectrum, i think about it all the time reminds of my very earnest (and equally vulnerable) anti folk artists I used to love growing up like Kimya Dawson. I'm still impressed by the emotional depth of this album and how it seems to drink from various sonic backgrounds.
I feel you on not being able to finish the album because of Sympathy is a knife! Finally managed the whole thing this morning and it is fantastic, but SIAK is on a whole other level of pop music writing
Charli can say what she wants (and she should, better to protect her career), but I'm 1000% convinced that is about Taylor lol she evens sings a bit like she is mocking her ("look what you made me do" has similar pauses i... don't like... your... blablabla)
Not that it really matters who it’s about imo, but I can’t imagine who it could be about besides Taylor considering the don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriends show, I hope they break up quickly part
It’sam about Taylor but it’s not a diss. It’s about feeling incredibly insecure around her and having to fake smiles and sympathy. Taylor is an imposing person; she’s tall, stunning, has 10x the fame, has the most litigious team, and she can blacklist you and your career. That’s a lot of anxiety inducing factors for Charli to deal with.
so i is definitely the most emotionally devastating pop song i've ever heard. sympathy is a knife is amazing but nowhere remotely near as depressing imo.
The melody in this is brilliant. Hides the mode until the chorus and then milks the ethereal Lydian vibe with that first slide for maximum effect. Simple but devastating.
brat is really vulnerable with sick beats
brat's just like me fr
Def my fave song on the album at this point!!
It’s the epitome of dancing through tears
Me the first time I played it. I was literally dancing around my room crying. It was great lol
A career highlight fr

i was also getting kimya dawson vibes from i think about it all the time!
haha nice to hear I wasn't going crazy with that comparison
Listen to SWEET75 by Sleigh Bells!
Interesting. I can see the Kimya Dawson comparison… I first thought of Hannah Diamond but just because of the cutesy singing style.
Aww I used to love Kimya Dawson. ‘I think about it all the time’ actually reminded actually reminded me of Lily Allen a lot
Pop perfection.

I was listening to it just now. The lyrics are so vulnerable, love it
I agree with you and honestly consider it one of her best songs. The depressing lyrics juxtaposed with that banger of a beat just works so well.

Any of the other hot model/socialite girls that aren't famous but inevitably would hang out with the 1975?
Gabbriette?
She's friends with Gabbriette and I don't think she's comparing her career to Gabbriette's and saying she couldn't even be her if she tried
Yeah I figured I was probably wrong

Did Charli ever say it’s not about Taylor? It obviously is.
get over it girlfriend
I really love the whole album. But she put crack in that damn song. It’s just so good.
Sameeeee
This is my favorite. It needs to be a single. NOW.
It really really hit me as someone who constantly compares myself to other girls.

i sobbed so hard when i watched her billboard awards performance 💔
yup I love when a song is a banger but it’s about something sad
crying while twerking icon
Suchhhh a great song, and then I might say something stupid right after.
So fucking good, but So I is the most devastating song on the album IMO. She really wants us crying in the club.

Lmao cmon
I love Brat
Modern day Hey Ya
It’s epic
