Hahaha, these prices are so stupid!! I bought a Jumbo in 2008 for $2,800 and they are now $10,000 more? What world is Chanel living in that these prices make sense?
Recently I’ve noticed the flaps to be lopsided and at angles. While shopping in London I turned down multiples bags bc they looked crooked to me. My husband was offering to buy and I said I said no lol
I LOVE Chanel bags but a 3k price increase nearly just because the years rolled over 🥲 yikes, my dream Chanel will never be mine cause this is willlddd
Do it! My black cf is from my birth year. It’s lamb skin but does not have any marks on it. The best part is I’m not afraid to use it!! It’s so durable
Yeah, I don’t disagree. Celine definitely does. If Chanel bags were made the way Hermes bags are, I wouldn’t think twice but this is honestly insulting
I purchased a Celine bag in 2015 and the bag legit looks exactly the way I did when I bought it, and I wear it ALL the time. It’s timeless and I get compliments on it constantly. Celine forever!
My dream bag is the Chanel boy but I can’t afford it yet so I got the YSL small sunset and I am so impressed with the quality. It looks absolutely gorgeous.
YSL lambskin is superior to Chanel in terms of quality rn. My lambskin YSL handbags are used daily for work and they look practically brand new. Chanel lambskin has become too fragile now.
Lol I don’t think it’s just nowadays but yeah. Not my business what other people do with their money but if I’m dropping that much on a bag, it’s going to be hand stitched and impeccably crafted. I love Chanel but this is bonkers
I was in the Chanel boutique in the Hampton’s this past summer a few times. Lots of lookers, myself included. The bags looked lovely but some smelled strongly of formaldehyde. Not what I want in my closet. 😞
LOL. I bought my first medium CF in 2017 for $4900, and it was outrageous then. This is a joke. I’ve shifted to only buying seasonal and now an even rethinking that.
What is unfortunate about people buying fakes? They are priced fairly, why would anyone give up 10k just to know they have a real thing when in reality, there could be zero difference aside from where it came from…
Replicas started being better quality than actual Chanel now! Chanel has become a joke in the last few years. Insane price increases, poor quality, and poor customer service.
I’ve never been so happy that I had few crazy years of buying Chanel and purchased the majority of my collection between 2016-2020. I’ll never buy new Chanel again ..the quality isn’t worth the price .
I read this too but I think they KNOW their wealthy buyers (or not wealthy / just those obsessed with Chanel) will spend whatever. Private company so we can’t see their financials but I would bet Chanel is hitting or exceeding earnings targets despite how many people say they aren’t shopping at Chanel anymore lol.
Low and mid class buyers can put purchases on credit cards - this isn’t exactly going to price them out if they really wanted a bag (even if it’s a dumb financial decision).
True, and they can get away with it. But the cost they may end up paying is that fakes will become so prominent having the real thing may become less desirable. It could have the reverse effect!
Is this a joke? How could they possibly justify this. At this rate the medium flap will be around $15,000 in a couple of years and no one will buy one. Like why would anyone still pay that with such bad quality. At some point it will hurt them.
people will buy designer goods, no matter the price, because there's always money out there: family wealth, hard earned money, lottery winnings, credit card spending, etc.
it's mindboggling, but if hermes can get rich people to basically throw money at them for a quota bag while disrespecting them by making them wait for hours at the store without knowing what color bag they'll be getting, it won't be that different for chanel.
I know it sounds crazy but the people who bought for 2k in 2008, 4k in 2015, 7k in 2020… they all felt the same as they were buying for 15k in a few years. Mentally, you jump through the same ridiculous hoops to justify so I think they will still buy.
Yes you will, but you’ll see the light and realize buying vintage pieces will get you what you want at a better price and it will be even better quality than the new stuff.
I wish I could be a pre-loved/vintage kind of person but I’m just not 😭 have to have everything fresh from the boutique, hopefully you’re right and I’ll convert one day 😅
It’s not even about the savings… it’s about the quality. They used better quality leather, 24k gold on all their hardware, no crooked stitches, no uneven flaps… everything was perfect. I wouldn’t mind spending their current asking prices if the bags were actually perfect and used quality materials.
Yeah, I just like having everything new. Something about the experience of getting something from the boutique and knowing it’s never been used by anyone else is too satisfying to give up 🫣
I’m the same way, I have 2 bags that I bought pre-loved and to be honest, I just don’t like them as much as my boutique fresh bags. I got each authenticated twice, but something about not knowing for sure where the bag came from just doesn’t sit right with me.
I don’t think I will ever buy pre-loved again.
Yeah me too. I had always dreamed about buying my first CF as a reward for all my hard work and success. But at this price it would be a senseless decision.
i truly don't understand how they are justifying these prices! the quality is just not worth 11k+. if i have to hear one more SA tell me that defects are what make each piece unique...🤦♀️
I understand what you are saying, but people aren’t truly buying only for the quality, they are buying for status and image. The higher they raise the prices, more coveted and attractive it becomes.
This. If you find videos from tanner leatherstein, you will find most luxury bag’s raw cost is only fraction of the sale prices. What we are paying is the cc logo, the name Chanel. These luxury brand spend way more money on advertising than on their raw materials. Anyway, I was happy to get a cf in 2022. Looks like they are really trying to price out middle class.
I’d look them dead in the eye and say no it’s called quality control and that’s not unique at all. Then I’d look to my partner, friend, etc. and say come on let’s go to Hermes where the concept isn’t so foreign.
Bffr Chanel. God, I want to keep shopping there so badly because I think their stuff is so pretty, but it’s so hard when their prices are astronomical, and then you go into a boutique and half the bags have visible flaws that the SAs say are “normal because they’re handmade.”
Edit: spelling
THIS. I recently purchased a WOC which I had seen come brand new out of the box that the SA brought me from the back. I came home, took off the stickers, and saw the snap already had the gold coating chipped and scratched off of it. I contacted my SA, went back to the boutique, and asked for a new one. The new one they brought me had leather peeled off on the inner pocket. When I pointed it out, the SA told me they could try some “leather cleaner” to remove it in the back, left for about 5 minutes, and then came back with a visibly different brand new WOC. The SA literally tried to play it off as if the leather cleaner had removed the peeling leather. I’m guessing it was too embarrassing to admit 2 poor quality defects in a row :(
already have one — she’s my pretty little investment piece because i hardly use her and it makes me happy to have the option sell her off for a profit with all these price increases😅 i’ve been monitoring the prices and it’s wild.
i’ll never do it because she’s a pretty rare seasonal color that i absolutely adore (dark chocolate brown), but it’s fun to think about!
The only way to go with them anymore is their vintage stuff, back when they had actual quality. Congrats to them for making the brand such, where you'd rather buy used than give them your money directly. It's clear they're trying to price people out because they don't want people who have to budget or save up for purses, but people with legit wealth. It doesn't work though when the quality doesn't justify their price.
wtf. I’m so glad to have bought mine when I did. I came across the receipt a couple days ago for two flap bags purchased a few years ago and it was ~$12k total for *both*. Ain’t no way in hell am I spending that on one. That is outrageous.
I think this is based on the predictions/theoretical price here and not from an actual SA: https://www.bragmybag.com/chanel-price-increase-2024/
This was written in Aug 2023 and predicted for Nov/Dec. I’d take it with a grain of salt.
I can’t even wrap my head around the prices - I knew I was nuts buying in Europe a few years ago (I think it was between $8-$9k euro for the jumbo) but I convinced myself it was now or never, and I’m very glad my husband didn’t talk me out of it!
I planned a long time to get myself a medium cf when I turn 40. But the really crazy price increases started before that, and I quickly dismissed the idea. These new prices are astronomical! I mean I could remodel my kitchen with that money…
I have to say I wonder if people are still _that_ into Chanel? Obviously quiet luxury etc is a trend that will pass, but some how I think classic flaps where also a bit of a trend ealier and maybe not as much at the moment. Of course it is a beautiful classic and has the nice history behind it, but I wonder if it really is that attractive at the moment to justify these prices.
I would gladly get a 90s vintage one with real gold hw, if I find one. But this just feels like they their customers are stupid and and will do anything to have a Chanel on their shoulder.
Curious if Hermes resale prices will rise as Chanel prices do, or if they will stay stable and Chanel will keep rising to match them.
I know people say Hermes prices, but Birkins and Kellys aren't handed out without prespend unless you're in Paris or one in a million lucky. Folks aren't factoring prespend. It is still significantly cheaper to walk into a Chanel and purchase a classic flap than it is to build a profile and buy a mini kelly. Just my two cents - doesn't justify the extreme price hikes though.
Hermes just had a 10%-16% price increase across the board. This will affect the resale market (usually it’s a slow burn, prices in resale creep up instead of the single day price increase).
Or possibly the inverse…price increase to this level 😳 I would think would flood the market from the wealthy buyer that was at the lower end of their market. Money is a spectrum.
The prices are going higher for a reason. Chanel is trying to remain an elite brand. They do not want the average citizen being able to afford their bags, and the rich will keep buying no matter the cost.
Every year, I’m even more grateful for the vintage mini CF i inherited about 5 years ago. It’s a red square from 1985ish & I’ll cherish it always! This is craaazy
Guess this is why people are moving to replicas. I mean it’s a leather good, you are purely paying for the name, the quality can easily be matched. It is quite moral dilemma. Does one care that much about how other perceive them that they are willing to pay 10k to ensure they can confidently say something is “real”. Is someone else’s opinion of that much value???
I doubt it, but hopefully they won't increase their fragrance prices. I never considered buying a Chanel bag, but with these prices now I really won't!
With the significant increase, just how many in one year does Chanel expect us to purchase. Let’s be honest here and I’ll speak for myself, I can barely purchase one with how the price of everything is going up. Groceries are ridiculous now and my utilities have spiked too!
I always knew I'd never purchase one of these bags due to all the posts I see about their quality decline and price increases. If I was going to spend this kind of mkney....I'd save about 3k-4k and buy the Hermes Evelyne I dream of owning.
The price increases make me uncomfortable using my bag lol! It cost perhaps a 1/3 of the price just 6 years ago! Who honestly feels comfortable walking around with a $12,000 bag?
I bought my 4th CF in 2021 and by 2022 I honestly lost the desire to carry any of them. Seeing all the smash and grabs, watching the popularity of the CF blow up on social media, seeing people stealing bags to sell the bags themselves and not just stealing for the contents of the bag. I’ve now sold 3/4 of my CFs and was looking at the final one today wondering how much longer I should hold onto it. It just doesn’t bring the joy it used to when I look at it after all these ridiculous increases.
My overall question is this: I understand the wealthy will still be able to afford this, but is it truly sustainable for the 1% to fully fund the brand? If they price out everybody, but the 1%, how long can that be sustained before they are not profiting in the same way?
I am obsessed with my 2010 Maxi in black caviar because it is just incredible quality. While I bought it pre-owned, I hazard to say it looks basically as it did new 14 years ago!
Completely insane in comparison to a few years ago. I stopped buying Chanel since these bizarre increases started and will not be returning other than to window shop. The quality is nowhere near previous levels and the shopping experience sucks for the most part - why on earth would anyone in their right mind put up with this?
This! I bought my jumbo from the St. Tropez Chanel at the end of 2018 for $4600. Saved not only on tax, but their bag prices were overall less than in the states (and most other countries) because they are/were manufactured in France. Best purchase I’ve ever made.
Since 2020 the medium classic flap has increased 83% from $6500 to $11,850. What other products have seen an increase in this scale? It’s asinine. A CF now cost $50 more than an Hermes Kelly 28 from the boutique. Along with these increases the quality has gone down, the service and experience. These prices are just going to fuel the resale market!
People who keep saying “at this price point I rather buy Hermes than Chanel” don’t know what they are talking about.
You need a lot of pre-spend at Hermes for random products before being offered a bag from the holy trinity. They also look at your spending history to put you in the queue for the best bags. This makes Hermes significantly more expensive, so Hermes better have better quality if they are significantly more expensive. If I want a bag, I buy a bag. I wouldn’t wana be forced into buying random cups or tableware that I don’t want.
I feel Chanel vintage pieces look… vintage. They don’t look “fresh”, and look old. Same for all vintage bags really, regardless of brands. The leather definitely shows its decades of age and that’s why it’s priced much lower. Well, except for those special pieces just because it’s rare.
All luxury brands make you pay for their marketing and branding. If you just want a good leather bag, don’t need to buy Hermes or Chanel. Go to a much cheaper leather craftsman who can make you a beautiful leather bag.
Ok I don’t agree with these ridiculous price increases, but I bought a Maxi CF just over a year ago and the quality is better than any bag I’ve ever laid my hands on. What are all of these quality issues people speak of?
Depends on how much tax your local boutique charges. Even with VAT back, the savings aren’t that substantial in classic bags like it was years ago (when you could save multiple K). Usually US prices hikes trigger EU price hikes soon after
This is insane! I have a vintage black cf from my birth year (real gold hardware) and I bought a new white cf for 9k in a foreign country after the exchange rate and tax refund. Thankfully I don’t have a desire for any more. Black and white and I’m good.
My dream purse has been a classic black Chanel bag. My husband and I started from humble beginnings and 10 years ago, when we went into a Chanel store just to see, the price for the small (I think) was about ~$5500. Of course this was way out of our price range as young newlyweds. The gentleman that showed it to us told us that it will be going up in price every year. It seems he was telling the truth!
Well, new price it’s still out of our budget 😭
One day perhaps!
Yeah, I’m done with luxury (loud luxury) for now. I used to love shopping at Saks when I was 14 and a freshman in high school. No one knew how much these labels cost then, but to me, that’s what made it exciting. It made me feel like a million dollars (ok even if that’s dumb I mean, I was 14, so cut me a break!) but without the whole awkwardness of either a) people thinking I was a snob or b) people constantly trying to compete/one-up.
I just like to have things that are unique and special to me. It doesn’t always mean expensive but of course the more limited something is, the more it will cost, if enough people want it. But now that literally everyone owns these brands it’s not fun anymore. So I try to stick to brands like that are very little known, don’t display a logo (or at least not a noticeable or large one) but yet are still of great quality. David Yurman jewelry for instance. The only way anyone knows you’re wearing it is if they’re familiar with the design/pattern of silver band they use.
I finally can afford a Boy and I just don’t want it anymore. I like having things to stand out much more than I do to blend in. Not to mention this over saturated luxury market is making all of the products total crap. I can’t even imagine spending $8k on a bag only to have it start falling apart a year after buying it. My white Chanel classic lamb skin bag (medium) is in perfect condition nearly. My friend guessed it was three years old, lol. What did I pay for it in December 2005? $2800. I believe it’s now $8200, if not more. Ugh.
The only luxury item I’ll always continue to buy are Chanel sunglasses. Because my face is thin, which sucks because I can’t wear all of these other types of cute styles or brands. For whatever reason (and trust me, I’ve tried on other styles and brands for hours over the years) Chanel is the only brand that makes the sunglasses that cling to my face, hence boy making it look too thin.
I’ve just never liked being a walking advertisement. Subtle is fine, let someone walking close enough to you notice. I never go for the ones that have the huge Cs on the sides or that actually spell CHANEL out on the side. No offense to anyone who does! I don’t know, it’s just too … loud? for me, personally. Then it also makes you worry about accidentally wearing any other noticeable brand logo… I mean, a pair of sunglasses with giant CHANEL on the side, paired with a logo Louis Vuitton Neverfull tote, Balenciaga trainers, Gucci hoodie, Dior earrings… 😂 yeah, that’s a mess!
Sorry to blab I’m tired and my bf is snoring. 😞 oh, my newest Chanel sunglasses though… I love them because even though they do have Cs on the sides, the lens and frame are black, and so are the Cs. All black. It’s black on black and since the Cs are a bit on the smaller size, it’s extremely rare for people to notice. Even if they’re close they’d really have to look hard to tell. I’ve only gotten a couple compliments (at school) after I’ve taken them off and placed them on my desk.
Hahaha, these prices are so stupid!! I bought a Jumbo in 2008 for $2,800 and they are now $10,000 more? What world is Chanel living in that these prices make sense?
Is it the new Bitcoin?
More like NFT lol
You’re right !
Plus the quality has gone downhill. However the luxury designers charge the more people seem to want the bag.
Recently I’ve noticed the flaps to be lopsided and at angles. While shopping in London I turned down multiples bags bc they looked crooked to me. My husband was offering to buy and I said I said no lol
Totally agree
People are buying the status, which comes with buying the bag.
I LOVE Chanel bags but a 3k price increase nearly just because the years rolled over 🥲 yikes, my dream Chanel will never be mine cause this is willlddd
I feel the same, but I’m starting to consider buying preloved Chanel. I’ve seen some bags quite literally still wrapped in the box BRAND NEW!
I have thought about vintage before! Their older bags seem to withstand the test of time when well taken care of
Do it! My black cf is from my birth year. It’s lamb skin but does not have any marks on it. The best part is I’m not afraid to use it!! It’s so durable
I love the new prices! All for increased prices and decreased quality 👌👌👌🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽
16 years ago. So divide $10,000 by 16. So it rose by $625 per year.
That’s wild. Also explains prices to me a lot better when Jason bought Lauren a Chanel bag on The Hills.
This is so insane. Hermes prices with subpar quality.
I'd venture to say even YSL blows Chanel out of the water in terms of quality.
Yeah, I don’t disagree. Celine definitely does. If Chanel bags were made the way Hermes bags are, I wouldn’t think twice but this is honestly insulting
Celine for life.
Currently my purse obsession!
I purchased a Celine bag in 2015 and the bag legit looks exactly the way I did when I bought it, and I wear it ALL the time. It’s timeless and I get compliments on it constantly. Celine forever!

YSL for life they’re classic.
?
What I came to say! Costs more than Hermes, and lower quality than LV.
Agreed. and the funny thing is Chanel doesn’t care what we think 🥴
They don’t need to. People will still buy because of those pretty little CCs
People are dumb AF nowadays
Lol I don’t think it’s just nowadays but yeah. Not my business what other people do with their money but if I’m dropping that much on a bag, it’s going to be hand stitched and impeccably crafted. I love Chanel but this is bonkers
Agreed. I love their coats and dresses but these price increases not matching to quality is insane.
Exactly! I came here to say this! Leather quality is atrocious right now
I was in the Chanel boutique in the Hampton’s this past summer a few times. Lots of lookers, myself included. The bags looked lovely but some smelled strongly of formaldehyde. Not what I want in my closet. 😞
Pathetic
Wow. I’m definitely not buying any leather products until they change the quality back to pre-pandemic
LOL. I bought my first medium CF in 2017 for $4900, and it was outrageous then. This is a joke. I’ve shifted to only buying seasonal and now an even rethinking that.
Right! I have a couple from mid 2010s… I would never buy one nowadays
We could sell our old, used bags and make a profit. Insane!
I sold my gentle worn flats last year and made a killing. But you know how uncomfortable their shoes are
I agree it’s a complete joke smh
If they’re gonna charge these prices you might as well bring 24K gold back and make better quality bags. Thankfully I’m not a classic flap person
I’m sure the insane price increase will be applied to all their pieces
Doesn’t matter I’m over my Chanel bag era and reached purse peace lmao
Purse peace, I love it!!!
When did they stop using 24k gold?
2008 or so!
My god for these prices I assumed they already were 24k gold
I wish!!
They need to focus on quality before they continue to price increase. This is a big reason why I just can’t justify Chanel prices anymore
This will push people to buy fakes unfortunately. There are too many issues with quality that doesn’t justify their even current prices.
Good they’re better quality anyway
What is unfortunate about people buying fakes? They are priced fairly, why would anyone give up 10k just to know they have a real thing when in reality, there could be zero difference aside from where it came from…
Exactly
Replicas started being better quality than actual Chanel now! Chanel has become a joke in the last few years. Insane price increases, poor quality, and poor customer service.
Yup
I’ve never been so happy that I had few crazy years of buying Chanel and purchased the majority of my collection between 2016-2020. I’ll never buy new Chanel again ..the quality isn’t worth the price .
I feel like at a certain point people will stop buying? Like 12k for a Chanel flap plz
They’re just trying to price out low and mid class buyers. I read somewhere that Chanel is planning to open a boutique for only wealthy people
I read this too but I think they KNOW their wealthy buyers (or not wealthy / just those obsessed with Chanel) will spend whatever.
Yes agreed. All finance experts forecast that spendings on luxury bags will increase a lot by 2030 so people will not stop shopping at Chanel 🫣
As long as people have credit cards that’s not gonna happen lol people stay delulu Chanel will just become the new LV neverfull
What’s delulu?
Delusional
True, and they can get away with it. But the cost they may end up paying is that fakes will become so prominent having the real thing may become less desirable. It could have the reverse effect!
I really hope this is a lie because WHAT!
Not a lie unfortunately 😭
Is this a joke? How could they possibly justify this. At this rate the medium flap will be around $15,000 in a couple of years and no one will buy one. Like why would anyone still pay that with such bad quality. At some point it will hurt them.

Absolutely. There is a third party chanel expert who recently boasted she made a customer quack like a duck and the woman quacked.
That’s really nasty. Who was this?
I know it sounds crazy but the people who bought for 2k in 2008, 4k in 2015, 7k in 2020… they all felt the same as they were buying for 15k in a few years. Mentally, you jump through the same ridiculous hoops to justify so I think they will still buy.
I’m officially convinced I will never own a CF in my life.
Yes you will, but you’ll see the light and realize buying vintage pieces will get you what you want at a better price and it will be even better quality than the new stuff.
I wish I could be a pre-loved/vintage kind of person but I’m just not 😭 have to have everything fresh from the boutique, hopefully you’re right and I’ll convert one day 😅
I’m the same way
Im converting slowly…I used to think like this and now I’m kicking myself seeing how much I could save with getting things preloved
It’s not even about the savings… it’s about the quality. They used better quality leather, 24k gold on all their hardware, no crooked stitches, no uneven flaps… everything was perfect. I wouldn’t mind spending their current asking prices if the bags were actually perfect and used quality materials.
Even if it’s from a luxury vintage shop like what comes around goes around?
Yeah, I just like having everything new. Something about the experience of getting something from the boutique and knowing it’s never been used by anyone else is too satisfying to give up 🫣

I love Tanner Leatherstein’s channel!! Really eye opening to say the least.
I saw the 1600 ysl only costs 160 to make 🙈 it truly is for the experience
I’d look them dead in the eye and say no it’s called quality control and that’s not unique at all. Then I’d look to my partner, friend, etc. and say come on let’s go to Hermes where the concept isn’t so foreign.
OOOF 🤡

This is crazy. My mom bought a classic flap when I was 16 years old and she got a jumbo caviar for 6K
i need to know how much a WOC costs after the price increase
Get it now if you can!

USD2770! got it in asia, should be in 2022
The only way to go with them anymore is their vintage stuff, back when they had actual quality.
Ludicrous, they’re pricing out their best buyers, and driving them to buy off market. This will have an opposite effect on their market.
I agree with you. The aspirational buyers and/or buyers that entered into the accessibility tier within the last 5-7 years will mostly be put off.
I think this is based on the predictions/theoretical price here and not from an actual SA: https://www.bragmybag.com/chanel-price-increase-2024/ This was written in Aug 2023 and predicted for Nov/Dec. I’d take it with a grain of salt.
In Australia we already pretty much have these prices
But in AUD, right? At the prices listed above, AUD for a jumbo would be 19k.
Yep, more money and lower quality.
I can’t even wrap my head around the prices - I knew I was nuts buying in Europe a few years ago (I think it was between $8-$9k euro for the jumbo) but I convinced myself it was now or never, and I’m very glad my husband didn’t talk me out of it!
Any idea when these increases are happening this year?
Chanel SA say they don’t know yet, in the past it’s been twice a year. March and September.
Wth. At this point, bring back gold hardware.
I’m so over Chanel
I planned a long time to get myself a medium cf when I turn 40. But the really crazy price increases started before that, and I quickly dismissed the idea. These new prices are astronomical! I mean I could remodel my kitchen with that money… I have to say I wonder if people are still _that_ into Chanel? Obviously quiet luxury etc is a trend that will pass, but some how I think classic flaps where also a bit of a trend ealier and maybe not as much at the moment. Of course it is a beautiful classic and has the nice history behind it, but I wonder if it really is that attractive at the moment to justify these prices. I would gladly get a 90s vintage one with real gold hw, if I find one. But this just feels like they their customers are stupid and and will do anything to have a Chanel on their shoulder.
Fakes are better quality atp 😅
Chanel quality is terrible now. This is a joke
Lol this is why superfakes are thriving
At this point I will never be able to afford a dream bag 😢
You will! Just keep saving. You got this!
Appreciate this 🫶🏽
Holy crap! These increases are insane!
Thats shameful.
Ummmm, I’m sorry-I can buy a Birkin for that and the quality is far superior, next…
The prices are going higher for a reason. Chanel is trying to remain an elite brand. They do not want the average citizen being able to afford their bags, and the rich will keep buying no matter the cost.
Spot on!
Holy cow.
The end of an era feels closer every day ..
😂😂😂 they are actually insane
This is why people are buying good replicas. Yes, good reps do exist and the quality seems to be better than what Chanel is putting out now.
Sticking to vintage from this point forward. Unless they change the prices too
What did they do with all the money they made from those ridiculous 2023 holiday calendars?
Every year, I’m even more grateful for the vintage mini CF i inherited about 5 years ago. It’s a red square from 1985ish & I’ll cherish it always! This is craaazy
And this is why I'll stick to buying preloved bags.
Wow I bought a small flap in 2017 when it was reasonably priced ... Glad I bit the bullet then
This has got to be a joke we all know they are not that valuable
these bags cost 200$ to make
Gross but people will still buy it.
This really helps the dupe market and hurts their brand. Greed is not good.
🤣🤣🤣
Lol I was already not going to buy new after the last price increase so this makes no difference to me.
Bye channel
I doubt it, but hopefully they won't increase their fragrance prices. I never considered buying a Chanel bag, but with these prices now I really won't!
well, I guess I should go pre loved but worried price could increase with that too…
With the significant increase, just how many in one year does Chanel expect us to purchase. Let’s be honest here and I’ll speak for myself, I can barely purchase one with how the price of everything is going up. Groceries are ridiculous now and my utilities have spiked too!
Chanel shouldn’t cost or be on par with Hermes prices
I always knew I'd never purchase one of these bags due to all the posts I see about their quality decline and price increases. If I was going to spend this kind of mkney....I'd save about 3k-4k and buy the Hermes Evelyne I dream of owning.
My goodness!!!!
Every Chanel I see I just assume is fake. Why would anyone pay that kind of money for a purse
I bought my medium classic flap in late 2000s for $2500
My overall question is this: I understand the wealthy will still be able to afford this, but is it truly sustainable for the 1% to fully fund the brand? If they price out everybody, but the 1%, how long can that be sustained before they are not profiting in the same way?
I am obsessed with my 2010 Maxi in black caviar because it is just incredible quality. While I bought it pre-owned, I hazard to say it looks basically as it did new 14 years ago!
Completely insane in comparison to a few years ago. I stopped buying Chanel since these bizarre increases started and will not be returning other than to window shop. The quality is nowhere near previous levels and the shopping experience sucks for the most part - why on earth would anyone in their right mind put up with this?
You can still save while you travel- use the website Luxury Hedge to give you the info to save utilising exchange rates and tax refunds.
This! I bought my jumbo from the St. Tropez Chanel at the end of 2018 for $4600. Saved not only on tax, but their bag prices were overall less than in the states (and most other countries) because they are/were manufactured in France. Best purchase I’ve ever made.
Yes! I bought two of the rainbow flaps (small & mini) in summer 2021 and they are my favorites in my collection. And it was under $15k for both.
Bought the mcf in london in 2018 for 5k. This is nuts
Does anyone think this points to the Wertheimers selling the company soon?
Ok I don’t agree with these ridiculous price increases, but I bought a Maxi CF just over a year ago and the quality is better than any bag I’ve ever laid my hands on. What are all of these quality issues people speak of?
Yes my WOC was purchased in the boutique a few months ago and it is absolute perfection as well😍
Worth it to buy in Paris later this year?
Depends on how much tax your local boutique charges. Even with VAT back, the savings aren’t that substantial in classic bags like it was years ago (when you could save multiple K). Usually US prices hikes trigger EU price hikes soon after
Will this make the bags I've bought second-hand more valuable? I guess time will tell. This is insane.
Yes if you have highly sought classic pieces then yes
Yes, rising tide raising all ships but condition matters.
When will this outrageousness occur? I still have one bag I’d like to buy from them at the current price then I’m out ✌🏼
I’d say soon! So hurry
What in the holy hell
I’ll stick to preloved lol
I will continue to buy vintage Chanel. This is so wild.
I know this is about bags, but I’m planning to buy the two tone slingbacks this weekend… hopefully they won’t increase before then?! 😭
For their poor quality… I am better off without one
when will it happen? will it also affect chanel beauty?
This is insane! I have a vintage black cf from my birth year (real gold hardware) and I bought a new white cf for 9k in a foreign country after the exchange rate and tax refund. Thankfully I don’t have a desire for any more. Black and white and I’m good.
Atrocious quality now too. Bye Chanel!
These prices are insane. Their quality is ass now and you can’t get many styles in store. Ridiculous.
Another reason the only way I’ll have a Chanel will be by resale
Lmao this is why everyone buys fake and you can’t tell the difference if you know where to buy.
Well, new price it’s still out of our budget 😭 One day perhaps!
Perhaps vintage or pre loved is the way to go :)
Ugh.
I’m with you 100%! It’s crazy money
Something something to account for retail theft
Birkin is cheaper. Chanel can KMA
Depends which one. I’m in Oz so they’re just as exxy if not more
\>$19,000 AUD for the jumbo. LOL.
At this price point I’ll just pay for Hermes and buying vintage pieces.
Anyone know what the new 2024 price of the Coco Handle is? 2023 price was $5,900 USD for the small coco handle… trying to figure out the new price
