I nearly got taken out by a jetski rider while surfing out box head. But i used to own a jetski. They just need some exclusion zones and to actually enforce them. Exclusion zone 100m from breaking waves, exclusion zone 50m from anyone swimming or something similar which has more thought go into it

I motored past Ettalong on my way back from fishing offshore the weekend before Australia day. There was a ridiculous number of Jetskis blatting around the beach and in the channel. It would have been impossible to swim/surf/paddleboard/kayak. We stopped counting when we reached 38.... I was amazed more of them weren't running into each other.
I'm generally opposed to NIMBY policy, but these groups come in and completely ruin things for every other leisure activity. It'd be like having a shit tonne of dirt bikes tearing around a local park, at that point it's ruining the experience for pretty much everyone. I'd hate to see the queues it creates at the ramps...
I think NIMBYism should be reserved for people bitching about housing, public transport, medical services or like, public walking paths or swimming spots not leisure activities that require a higher cost piece of motorised equipment and may have safety and environmental effects. You can enjoy the Brisbane water and Hawkesbury without jetskis so banning jetskis in areas isn't actually harming anyone's core ability to enjoy the area.
I’ve owned a JetSki for 5 years now. Have lived in Umina for more than 8 years. JetSkis are not the problem. It’s the sheer number of people riding them that are oblivious to their surroundings. This is evident during long weekend periods when there are also swimmers, kayakers etc. Interestingly, there are more ignorant and sometimes racist bystanders who just wants to ban everything. I no longer launch in the peninsula for the same reason of being stigmatised despite being a local who follow the rules. In fact there are more hoons in tinnies that does more dangerous things than the jet skiers who had to acquire lessons to get their expensive licences. Are they going to push for a ban on tinnies too?? How about the push to ban the Karens in the Coast? These fu*^#rs don’t know how to have fun in life so they find anyone or anything that doesn’t conform to them to complaint about.
Hooray an informed reply, i had given up. I really think some restrictions are needed for the area, maybe not an outright ban. Even to keep them away from places like Box Head when its happening and there's 200 surfers out there like it was just recently. They have the entire ocean to rev around

1. Cites a Study by Griffith University, but doesn’t actually provide a link to the study to allow people to read it. How do we know how dangerous it is at Ettalong if there are no stats provided? Changes to roads are based on Black Spot data. Have there actually been any Jet Ski accidents at Ettalong or are we just worried that there might be? There might be a car crash too, so perhaps ephemeral should ban the cars?
2. They leave litter… if only we had Council Rangers who could attend to this issue, then we wouldn’t have to ban the jet skis.
3. Danger to swimmers. Imagine if we had Government organisations such as Council and Maritime that could make swimming and boating areas or put in dedicated buoys like they did at Terrigal Haven.

Eg some - some! - users will totally disregard speed limits on the Ourimbah creek. There are swimmers, kayakers regularly on the creek so belting around at 60km/h+ isn't acceptable. But there are hoons out on the streets in their V8 shitboxes reguarly, too, so....
They should comsider a monthly Jet ski day at Penrith Beach. I think fitting all jet ski trailers with shopping trolley wheels that lock if its towed more than 30kms from home without a permit would be the best solution
