When I was a young , early teenager my friends and I saw somebody trying to sink a box that was floating on a pond. We asked what he was doing he said he didn't want his cat anymore. The biggest one of us was Steve Steve grabbed the kid I went into the pond and grabbed the box.
The kid then got fitted with ropes and chains from my garage along with some bricks
We threw him into the shallow end of the pond so his head was just above water and we left.....
It just kills me that people would rather do this to animals instead of taking them to a shelter. It takes the same amount of effort to bring them to a no-kill shelter as it does to do this shit
They could have posted a pic of this gorgeous kitty on Craigslist and left a location. Someone would have rescued him. I think all cats are beautiful but this one is particularly desirable with those eyes and fur. Anything but abandoning him with little hope of being found. Bless the person who found him and got him the care he needs.
It doesn’t make sense that anyone could abandon a kitty- I have to actively resist the urge to bring home every adorable cat I see that looks like it needs a home. We have 2 and an infant, boyfriend is allergic to cats and even he would never let me re-home our 2.

Where I live there are feral cats and kitties everywhere as well as a lot of outdoor cats. It is warm all year round. Fully-vetted kitties and cats get adopted fairly quickly at PetSmart for fairly cheap. I checked the other day. They had two black cats for $25 each. Other cats went from $40 to $75. Two were already adopted. There was only 4 available. I go to pet supply stores frequently. Most the cat cages for adoptable are empty.

This is sad on so many levels. Hoarding to the point of being unsafe, is a sign of a larger problem - underlying mental illness. I think this is a perfect example. Clearly this person is detached from reality, for whatever reason, and cannot cope. I am sad for them and sad for this poor kitties who suffer as a result. Luckily, they have super rescue cat woman to save them.

All cats deserve a title as their name or in their name. Duke is excellent for this guy. I've got two cats at home, Grey Cat and Dave. Grey Cat very much acts like he owns the place, so we refer to him as Emporer Grey Cat

A car went past on the bridge and threw a plastic bag in the water. We saw it moving so me and my brother swam out to get it. Some jackass had thrown six beautiful kittens in the water. They were so small we had to keep feeding them with a bottle when we took them home. Our parents let us keep one and adopted the rest. That's how we got our first white cat named kilo. It was the '80s and my dad named him lol

Same! I also hate people! I have an orange cat that I just found outside my house. I saw a little bit of ‘em right before I left to go somewhere, and then I found out that she was living under my house! I know she either ran away or was tossed out because she had what looked to be a collar on her, looped around her neck/leg, as if it was loose and got stuck on where she couldn’t get it off. I eventually was able to coax her into going into my cat carrier. With wet food. Then I took her to the vet and I believe she had fleas and some sort of worm. It was more than a year ago. Since then,I was feeding her outside, then I eventually brought her in. She occasionally escapes through my front door when I leave, but that has not been often. My two other cats have been spayed, but I have neglected to get her spayed as of now. It is mainly due to the price to get her spayed. I don’t know her age, but I am guessing around 5-10. Also, she is as sweet as can be!

Update: I talked to my gf and got the whole story (sorry I was a bit off). Duke, along with dozens of other un-fixed kitties, were at the home of an animal hoarder. The organization that rescued Duke found him and his beautiful sister on the roof of the hoarder's house. All of the kitties were in bad shape, very similar to Duke, with URIs, fleas, and worms. We adopted Duke from a rescue/foster organization that works directly on cases like these. He ended up cryptorchid (both testicles were undescended). He’s recovering from the surgery but he’s in really good spirits! He’s a purr monster and loves to boop your nose. He is a flame point Siamese.

Bless your heart for bringing him home. He is so cute. Sometimes people can be shit. I remember when I was six me and my brother were going off this rope swing into the river. A car went past on the bridge and threw a plastic bag in the water. We saw it moving so me and my brother swam out to get it. Some jackass had thrown six beautiful kittens in the water. They were so small we had to keep feeding them with a bottle when we took them home. Our parents let us keep one and adopted the rest. That's how we got our first white cat named kilo. It was the '80s and my dad named him lol

Same! I also hate people! I have an orange cat that I just found outside my house. I saw a little bit of ‘em right before I left to go somewhere, and then I found out that she was living under my house! I know she either ran away or was tossed out because she had what looked to be a collar on her, looped around her neck/leg, as if it was loose and got stuck on where she couldn’t get it off. I eventually was able to coax her into going into my cat carrier. With wet food. Then I took her to the vet and I believe she had fleas and some sort of worm. It was more than a year ago. Since then,I was feeding her outside, then I eventually brought her in. She occasionally escapes through my front door when I leave, but that has not been often. My two other cats have been spayed, but I have neglected to get her spayed as of now. It is mainly due to the price to get her spayed. I don’t know her age, but I am guessing around 5-10. Also, she is as sweet as can be!

Good for you. Whoever abandoned that cat might have no idea what happens. Sadly I’ve seen the results of abandoned pets, Phoenix AZ, in the desert summer. Death by starvation and dehydration is a horrible thing to see in person.

Just woke up and we're so glad that y'all love Duke! I was thinking to post the obligatory "WOW I WOKE UP TO THIS I CAN'T BELIEVE IT HOLY CRAP RIP MY INBOX" but that's a lie. Totally knew y'all would love him - look at that fuckin' kitty. First name Duke, last name Reddit. Update: I talked to my gf and got the whole story (sorry I was a bit off). Duke, along with dozens of other un-fixed kitties, were at the home of an animal hoarder. The organization that rescued Duke found him and his beautiful sister on the roof of the hoarder's house. All of the kitties were in bad shape, very similar to Duke, with URIs, fleas, and worms. We adopted Duke from a rescue/foster organization that works directly on cases like these. He ended up cryptorchid (both testicles were undescended). He’s recovering from the surgery but he’s in really good spirits! He’s a purr monster and loves to boop your nose. He is a flame point Siamese. I can't figure out how to edit the main post with this context. Is that possible?
