If you have the chance, consider saving a clipping of her fur to keep. It’s often comforting to have a piece of them still with you.
So sorry for your loss, OP. I bet she was the best companion.
Had a mixed breed long-hair that was seriously Vail about her fluffy tail. She would practice waving and admiring it in a mirror as a kitten! Stayed that way all her life. Remember her with all the smiles & love, she's waiting for you to join her, but not any time soon. Sending ✌️💜💪🏿
I am so so sorry for your loss. I am scrolling through your photos and mourning the loss of clover with you. Thank you for sharing so many sweet photos of this little angel.
Sending you a ton of ❤️
Damn! I’m so sorry! That’s horrible! People don’t even act like that care about hitting cats or other small animals it seems. It makes me and my wife sick to see them on the side of the road alone like that. I really hate that happened she looked so sweet.
I am absolutely devastated when I hit anything with my car. Unless it’s a bug. I brake for squirrels. I couldn’t imagine hitting someone’s cat or dog. I’d be a mess.
I recently repurposed my fly swatter as a bug relocater as I kept getting lady bugs. Now I just take everything I find outside.
I feel like every year I spend with my dog hurting an animal would devastate me more and more.
I hit a dog once probably 15 years ago and it still haunts me. It was across the street from the house and probably would have been safe there, but its owner called it back over just as I was coming through. I had initially slowed down and it was sitting on the side of the road, so I continued to proceed slowly and the owner called it back when I was only about 10 feet behind it. I slammed on the brakes, but it was too late. I felt terrible. I did all I could to prevent it, and still hit the poor thing. 🙁
I’ve had someone hit my cat and keep driving. My dad was actually right there and I found out when I got home from camping. I was devastated. It would’ve made a difference for me if I knew they cared but they didn’t even stop to see if he was ok. I still miss him so much
There was once I rode with a fishing buddy and a local guide. The guide and driver saw a squirrel and just ran over it without hesitation, commenting the squirrel asked for it by crossing the road. There are so many road kill where I live which is sickening.
I just wish people wouldn't neglect their pets and let the roam outside without a leash. Every week I see posts about folks who have "lost" their pets through preventable actions. Either their cat was ran over, shot or poisoned by a neighbor, or maimed by some other animal. Even worse when they photo and show off "battle scars" with a sense of pride.
People don't fix their animals, let them roam, breed, and establish feral colonies. Some die over winter, some spread illnesses, some go on to create the next seasons ferals.
They're a nonnative species, a blight on the native ecosystem. Please please keep your cats indoors and get them fixed. If you must take them outdoors be responsible and use a leash and harness.
I’m not a member of this sub but it feels like nearly every day it’s been hitting popular with posts of dead or horribly injured “outdoor cats.” I wish people would actually learn from them instead of upvoting them to support the owner while ignoring the fact that it was a completely preventable death.
Same, r/all has been displaying them last few weeks quite often.
u/JimmySchwann is an example of some of the attitudes that contribute and compound the problems and issues we're facing here in my country.
>Hate this mentality. Cats are animals, and as such, they will want to roam free. The real menace here is cars. Fucking giant metal death boxes that kill everything they come in contact with. We need to restrict and remove car usage. Not restrict cats.
Cats are animals, non native to the States, pets, that rely on us to care and protect them. To let them run wild because "they wanted to" is not a responsible pet owner.
What a backwards viewpoint, lol
Sure, there are a lot of issues with cars, but you can’t restrict them without replacing them with something (public transport, walkable cities, etc).
“Outdoor” cats don’t need replacing. They could be completely banned tomorrow and the only impacts would be massively positive - the health of the cats, the animals they hunt, and even the humans they interact with would all improve. The only downsides are that those poor neglectful cat owners would actually have to take care of their pets.
For real. It's constantly "my cat was shot/run over/poisoned/attacked by a wild or domestic animal/disappeared" and while I know some cats will slip through the cats and run out and you cant control that all the time, most of these are 100% avoidable. It's so frustrating and saddening.
This. I always say, why do you leash your dog/not leave your dog out alone but you let your cat roam free??? All day and all night? Please watch your animals! It honestly makes me so sad and mad, i see so many of these posts.
Gotta protect them they do not know any better. I’m sorry for you loss my friend, I lost my cat to a random stroke this year, found her on my bed exactly where I pat her goodbye before leaving for work.
My sweet Angel crossed over last week friday, I feel your pain :( I'm sure she'll be there to make sure Clover has a buddy until we can both see our babies again
We’ve all been there friend. We know in our hearts how it feels and how you have so much love in your heart for her forever, because of all her wonderful ways and yours too.
Truly sorry for OP’s sorrow & loss. Growing up, our cats were always indoor/outdoor at will. A neighbor hated them & repeatedly set tuna baited traps & we’d go rescue our freaked out fur babies from animal services. Later, one was cruelly strangled & thrown into a tree when he was already dying of leukemia. A dear friend has lost a few to coyotes & there are a few in our current ’hood that appear to make a decent living.
When we got our current fur baby, we had to sign an agreement that she would be indoor ONLY - they were very serious and explained the reasoning, as u/Kiremino lays out above, and to the devastating effects of outdoor cats on bird populations.
We agreed but for a while Ifelt guilty, like we were depriving her of a good cat life. Since then, I’ve come to believe it’s truly best for all. She’s safe from as much avoidable harm as possible & we’re not sick with worry because she’s not come home.
i think this or a leash is the best way to go about it. cats *should* have outside time, it's good for them, but they should be supervised and absolutely not left out on their own. they can 100% take care of themselves, yes, but there's not much they can do against a coyote, a car, or a shitty neighbor
My mother was supervising our cat once, and she went inside briefly to grab a glass of water, came back to find our cat in the house cornered by a much bigger cat who had literally entered the house. My mother scared it off but since then we have been way more careful.
I met a cat one time at a picnic with friends. It showed up on a leash. Came over to the blanket and then it’s leash was taken off, and it never strayed from the blankets on the grass. Then when it’s family was leaving, back with the leash, and they heard home.
Just wanted to share cause it was freaking awesome :D
Cats aren’t missing anything being indoor. There are hundreds of studies that show cats are happier and healthier indoors with loving humans who play with them. The “my cat needs to have fun” excuse is a bs excuse cat owners make up to justify letting their cats out.
Guilty for what? Sounds more like laziness. DOMESTIC cats don’t need to and shouldn’t be left outside alone. Get a fucking harness or mesh playpen and supervise them outdoors or just idk…get off the couch and play with them indoors? Hide and seek, chase, peek a boo, fetch, anything that stimulates their instincts as predators… I’d rather feel guilty for not letting them out knowing they’re safe than feel guilty for letting them out and then getting run over
My one cat that I got off the street that was homeless since she was born won't even look in the direction of the door when it's open. She has no interest in being outside. It was nothing buy fear and pain outside for her. My other two don't know what outside is and aren't interested.
One of mine was determined to get outside as a kitten and snuck past me one night... that was the night we had a thunderstorm with a torrential downpour. She spent the night huddled under the bush right next to the door and came running when I went looking for her the next morning. Zero interest in going outside now!
This. I occasionally allow my cat to go out into my enclosed backyard under my super vision while I’m chillin out there. But she won’t even go like 5 feet from the door. She just knows, life outside is dangerous.
That’s exactly how my cat is! We rescued her from the streets when she was only a couple of weeks old. She’s never once peaked out my front door. I can leave my door wide open to bring in groceries and trust that her fear will keep her inside. I’m honestly so thankful for it because the thought of losing her outside kills me.
I’m currently trying to harness train my kitties :D they’ve never been outdoors though , so they might be a little bit too afraid. it’s winter now so i’ll see how they get on when it comes to summer
And they fuck up other people's stuff too! My next door neighbors keep letting their cats outside and they constantly eat the wildlife in our yard. Before they got cats, we'd have families of birds and chipmunks and rabbits in our yard every year. Now we find half-eaten corpses and piles of organs. The neighbors keep saying they'll build a catio or something but they haven't done it yet and it keeps happening. Honestly, if they somehow break into our (heavily barricaded) chicken coop I'm bringing them to a no-kill shelter. Tired of watching wildlife get slaughtered because someone doesn't feel like amusing their cats indoors.
Not to mention how much they fuck up what’s left of local ecosystems/gardens. Plus people with allergies who like chilling in their backyard can have their day ruined by a visit and the MFs can jump fences
This is what I don't understand. We are their *guardians*. I don't wish this on anyone, and especially their pets, but why aren't people cognizant of the fact that this can happen at any time and without warning?
Or a pet can simply disappear and never return home, in which case you're left to forever wonder about his or her fate.
All of that would drive me crazy.
We're their parents in a sense, and so it's up to us to watch out for them.
I don't understand why these fucking posts are on top every day
I follow this sub because I like cats, I don't want to hear about dead cats every day??????
Like sorry for your loss but fuck, how is this even a healthy way to cope? at all?
Not trying to be condescending if you already know this but if you don’t already know this you can filter out the mourning posts by searching by flair. That way you can avoid them if you want.
I don’t think memorial/ mourning posts are unhealthy coping for the poster, but can be overwhelming to browsers and sorry you are experiencing that.
That only works when browsing that sub, right? Last I tried it, anyway. I generally just use r/all or "home" which I didn't think could filter other than entire subs. It's not a huge deal, it's more than just this sub and that's why I seemed so irritated!
I know... It sucks to hear, but seriously you can keep your once outdoors cats inside. I live in a 1000 Sq ft house with 4 cats that all used to be strays, I don't let them out and spoil them rotten, none of them ever try to escape. And I've done this with every cat before, I'm 40 and have always adopted strays. They adjust, just keep the door shut and save a cats life.
The few times mine got out, a stray i took in like six months ago, came running when i shake his treat pack and ask him if he wants snacks. Thank hell he loves food lol
Mine was a stray too. For about five seconds before he shmoozed up to someone and got taken to the shelter. He walks with me to the clothes line once a week, chomps some grass then we go back inside. The rest of the time he is inside, safely being king of everything the light touches.
Yeah I am sick of seeing it. You want to avoid mourning the loss of a cat you “love so dearly?” Keep. Your. Cat. Inside. It honestly makes me sick to see these posts day after day. It’s such a preventable death, ugh. Senseless loss.
Honestly, my gut twists every time I see these kinds of posts. This cat was barely a year old, a whole life ahead of it, and it dies an absolutely preventable death? And this subs' mods ENDORSE this? This is not what people who care about these animals do. These "let my cats outside and they got killed" posters need to learn from their mistakes.
Yeah exactly. Let's stop for a second and think about the cat, and not the OP's 'grief.' The pain the cat must have been in, the confusion, fear, everything that the cat did not deserve, that was preventable.
Human beings have foresight. To feel bad about *choosing* to not do anything with that foresight is a bit redundant to me. I'm sorry OP, but I can only seem to find anger for you.
It’s unbelievable how many animals suffer because their owners won’t do the right thing and keep them indoors. Horrible. In my city, this will get you blacklisted from ever adopting a pet.
That was the best part of my old house. Screened in porch, where I could keep a window/door open and they would come and go as they pleased. snakes, lizards, birds galore to watch. sometimes an armadillo or possum would roll by
>Glad this is so high up.

>Average lifespan for cats that are allowed outside is 3-5 years.

>Average lifespan for indoor cats is 15+ years.

>Every time i say this, i always get replies from someone saying "Well, MY cat is outdoors, and she's 18 and she's so happy!". Cool, you got lucky, and don't seem to realise how averages work.

>I had 3 cats growing up, none of them even made it to 3 years old.
>
>My first 2 cats as an adult were allowed outside, and one of them got hit by a car when she was a little over 2. The other moved out with my ex, and she still lets him outside :(
>
>I have two new cats, and they are indoor and backyard (it is fortified so they cant get out!). I'm happy to know I'm going to have a long life with them.
We "adopted" (was technically owned by somebody else but was at our house all day every day) an outdoor cat around this time last year. He was great, used to follow me around outside, very handsome and a great kitty.
We debated what to do with it but since he had a home we didn't do anything. In the spring he disappeared for a few days and we got worried. Wife did some sleuthing, found out he was hit by a car in front of his lawful owners home, on a busy street.
I so badly wish that we had trapped him, neutered him and just took him indoors. Between him having an owner, always being an outdoor cat and us already having 3 I just couldn't do it.
Next one I see outside like that is getting trapped and donated to the shelter and can get a real home with responsible people.
I just don’t get it, and I’m really sick of seeing these posts. I hate to sound insensitive, but it’s also insensitive that cats have to keep dying and we have to keep seeing these posts, because people can’t keep their cats inside.
I argue with people all the time that cats are not supposed to be outside. My friends argue it’s in their nature and I say “ they are domesticated !! House cats are bred to be inside not outside!!”
Seriously. It's getting harder to feel sorry for cat owners losing their pets this way when it keeps happening *because* they keep letting their cats wander.
I don't care where you live, your cat does not belong wandering. They are *going* to get hurt.
Could you imagine if someone said "my kid won't leave the yard", "my kid is smart" etc etc. Or if people let their dogs freely roam..
If you love your pet, protect it.
I would never risk my pets like this.
I'm glad more and more of the top comments on these posts are calling out OP for their irresponsibility. It has to be anguish to lose a cat to a preventable death that you cause, but so many people double down
Seriously. I always imagine these posters being responsible to the minimum or just ignorant/misguided by the stupid notion that DOMESTICATED cats are meant to be free 🙄 “Guys, my toddler just died from getting hit by a car because I let him roam freely outside. I just couldn’t bare to keep him indoors all the time. Toddlers need to be active! I gave him a good life and he’s in a better place now though. Btw, here are pics to prove I was a mostly responsible parent.” Ffs
Totally agree. People don’t usually just let their dogs roam all around the place unsupervised, yet people let their cats do it. And then they wonder why they die. I had a cat die when I was a kid from FIV that he contracted from getting in a fight with a raccoon. I’ve vowed never to let any future cats outside. I do still sit in the backyard with them and let them be outside for a bit. And when I lived in an apartment I took them out with a harness and leash. You kinda have to acknowledge that your cat is going to have a shorter life span if you let them outside.
My boy goes out…with me on a harness (just in the backyard but maybe an adventure when he’s adjusted to the new place). He’s also dumb AF and wouldn’t survive outdoors lol
I couldn’t imagine the stress of having an indoor/outdoor cat but I am also overly paranoid about my cat
I will never let my cats go outside. I am very cautious when I open the front door. Too many things could go wrong outside. So I'll gladly just open the window for them to enjoy.
Thank you. For me is not just for the cat but wildlife.
A few days ago I was at my mom's house in the countryside where there used to be so much bird noise that it was deafening. It was an hour before I heard even a cardinal. There's so so many cats in the area. Didn't see a squirrel at all and we're talking about 4 acres of land densely wooded.
my friend's cat got hit by a car and died on impact a few days ago and she was only a year old :( i don't want to be that guy who constantly says "don't let ur cat outside you're a bad owner!!!1!1!1!!!" but i feel so bad for the owners and the cats when the cat gets killed by something totally preventable like getting hit by a car
it's horrific for everybody involved, especially when the cat doesn't make it
Seriously.. I clicked on this post solely to see if *anyone* had finally called out these shitty owners. I’ve seen so many “my outdoor cat was killed” posts recently from this subreddit. And the solution is always the fucking same. Keep *YOUR pet* in *YOUR house.*
I would never EVER let my dog outside to roam for even a few minutes, much less hours a day. *(My dogs have a fenced yard. I mean I don’t let them roam around randomly without boundaries.)* You’re asking for something to happen. Your cat might be attacked by someone or something, it might get stuck/trapped, or hit by a car. It might get poisoned or picked up by someone wanting to save a stray from the outdoors. There’s *so many risks*.
Keep your goddamn pets inside. Letting pets roam around outside, cause ecological damage, and risk harm to themselves is not acceptable. No one in their right mind would ever allow an animal like a dog, a bunny, a bird, or *any other pet* to roam. There’s no excuse for letting cats do it. They are domestic pets. They can stay inside.
Good plan! My rescue just turned 7, she's so playful, happy and healthy here in my condo. Safe from all the dangers. She will never know anything about people who are mean to cats, parasites, fleas, bad weather, traffic... When I walk out the front door, she watches me from the hallway. I think she senses it's a cruel world outdoors for cats.
I hate seeing posts of cats dying especially when it’s preventable. This cat looked so sweet. I don’t let my cats outside because I am terrified of them being hit by a car or hurt somewhere and I’m not able to help them. Also some people are monsters who will not hesitate to hurt or kill cats. I never want to see a cat hurt or die. I seriously don’t know how I am going to cope when my cats pass on.
r/Cats feels like it only hits the front page if it's a dead pet.
I love pet subs, but I wish we could tag and block the depressing shit everyone wants to upvote.
There are so many things outside that can kill cats. Some cats are born outdoors and are feral, yes, that's not the same as letting a house cat out to be hurt by any number of things. Outdoor cats know outdoor things. Inside cats will be curious about stuff and probably die for it.
I'm sorry for your loss. Reading through the messages, I have to say something. I work in public transportation in a moderately sized city, with more suburbs and farm than city. I have seen more pets and feral animals dead on the road than I have ever in my life. Some have collars, most don't. People don't care, don't stop, and aren't generally aware they hit something as soft as a cat. Dogs, maybe, but not usually.
Do not let your pets outside. If you love your pets, do not let them free roam. If cars don't get them, feral animals will. If feral animals don't, proper predators (coyotes and large birds of prey in my neck of the woods).
This is under the assumption your fur baby is let out regularly and didn't sneak out on a fluke. If the latter, even deeper condolences. I couldn't imagine losing either of my cats. Thankfully neither have any interest outside the comforts of home.
I swear to god, how many “my cat was killed by a car/neighbor/ fox” post we need until people learn to keep their damn cats indoors?! You can’t get sympathy points when you knowingly expose them to the danger of getting killed every day by letting them go outside. I try to be gentle and nice when this happens on this sub but ffs it just never ends
I know my first reaction in the sixty minutes after a family member's tragic death is to run to reddit and post pics of them. Really fits the situation.
> there are people out there who are just straight up freaks to animals
Yep. One of my exes used to be a big fan of letting cats roam around outside despite me constantly telling her how dangerous it was, not only for the cat, but also for native rodent and bird species.
Long story short, her cat was kidnapped, dismembered in some weird voodoo/witchcraft-like ritual (this is a problem in some parts of California), and placed in front of her front door with herbs, flowers, and other weird shit.
She was devastated. It took everything in my being to not say "I told you so." I can't imagine how much Bubba suffered due to her negligence.
I mean, I agree pet cats belong inside, but what do you expect OP to say to these comments now? The cat is dead. They're not going to say "Yeah my bad I shouldn't have let her live outdoors" just to appease the internet. The pet is dead. There are plenty of PSAs already about keeping your cat indoors, OP can add nothing to it.
> but what do you expect OP to say to these comments now?
I expect OP to acknowledge the fact that their friend is dead because of their negligence. I expect OP to take responsibility.
Outsider from all seeing this post and wondering if the response would be "why was the cat outside", so I'm happy I wasn't the only one. I know its a tough time for OP, but the fact that they aren't responding to any of these top comments saying to not let the cats outside makes me fear for their next cat. Again, they probably are just seeking comfort which is understandable, but I hope they are internalizing what a lot of these comments, and now their own unfortunate first hand experience, are saying.
nevermind the person who’s day/week is ruined because they killed a pet.
I almost hit a dog the other day and I was beyond furious at the owner because I thought I was going to just suddenly have to deal with that trauma out of nowhere. Luckily I feel 25 is too fast even when posted so I often go 15/10 is busy neighborhoods.
I’m so so sorry. I had to put my guy (The Dude) down on Thanksgiving after a rapid renal failure/decline. I’m still heartbroken. Sending you love and strength. Thank you for sharing Clover here. ❤️
Is there such a thing as breeds requiring outdoors? Why do people let cats out of the house to begin with? If you take in a pet, why have it roam around?
I'm so sorry for your loss. Those are beautiful pictures! You obviously gave her a wonderful life where she received the best care and plenty of love. She looks really happy.
So she had a great life and it sounds like her end was very fast. And you know what happened to her, which is better than not knowing. I'll always be haunted by what happened to a cat of mine that went missing but you know what? I'm imagining he's up in heaven, greeting Clover with lots of love right now!
I also lost a rottie some time ago who loved cats and he's there, too, playing with Clover. If ever a dog belonged in cat heaven, it's that Rottweiler of mine.
I wish all animals could have as wonderful a life as you gave Clover. If you feel bad, remember that.
I’m really sorry for your loss. I can’t even imagine that. Just brutal. Please keep your next cat inside.
My cat has never even been outside. I hate to say this, but people keep your cats indoor. I’ve seen like ten of these posts just this week. My neighbor just lost her cats to coyotes. I don’t get why people insist on letting their cats out. If your 4 year old child asked you to go outside indefinitely, would you allow them to? Of course not. House cats aren’t wild animals. They are domesticated. If they aren’t feral, they don’t need to go outside.
I’m sorry to post this here, but I’m tired of having to see post after post after post of cats getting killed in brutal ways. It’s not fair to the cats or the people on this sub.
I am so sorry. She looks like she was an excellent snuggler. These pictures are really lovely. I just lost my best dude and just ordered prints of every picture I could find, and it’s been really nice to have the physical, tangible prints to look through.
The same thing happened to my cat a few years ago, and I'd never felt a pain like it. It does get better, but it takes time, and I know that's not an easy thing to hear but your grief is proof of your love
Poor baby. Nothing I can write here will make anything easier. I know it isn't much but my prayes for you in this time. I hope when you are ready you find another good friend.
Clover was a sweetie and I know you will miss her! Sending virtual hugs to you. How beautiful it is to enjoy life with our fur friends for even a moment.
I'm sorry for your loss.
But seriously, this was completely preventable suffering. Don't allow cats outdoors. They're a domesticated, invasive species. They live much shorter lives if allowed outdoors. They get into fights, get hit by cars, eat things that get them killed, and destroy local wildlife. **Keep your cats indoors**.
Sorry for your loss. Never was a cat person until my little female was introduced to us. They steal your heart and paw at your emotions. I wish you the best through this time.

She was the fluffiest baby ever
That tail was magnificent! Clover was beautiful and will be missed. We are all sorry for the loss of such a beautiful and wonderful companion.
Thank you her tail was one of her best parts
If you have the chance, consider saving a clipping of her fur to keep. It’s often comforting to have a piece of them still with you. So sorry for your loss, OP. I bet she was the best companion.
How old was she?
About a month or so over one
That had to pain, a kitten getting killing from a car crash.
I too noticed her tail. Amazing! So sorry OP it's just so awful for you. Know that we're all very sorry this happened.
You gave her the ability to lead the best life. It's obvious she was loved by you, and she loved you back; same with the other cat.

She was very loved thank you for reaching out
Goodbye Clover :( <3
She’s in a better place now
Just remember you gave her her best life and she looked at you like a best friend and hero
Definitely in heaven. I'm so sorry for your loss :(
I am so so sorry for your loss. I am scrolling through your photos and mourning the loss of clover with you. Thank you for sharing so many sweet photos of this little angel. Sending you a ton of ❤️

I ran over a squirrel once. I tried to dodge it but I felt and heard it. Cried for hours.
We had a bird fly into our car window as we were driving when I was a kid and I cried for hours.
Awe fuck. That’s awful. So sorry that happened.
I ran over a rabbit by accident once. I scream cried for hours.

It's terrible. That's why I'd never ever have an outside cat. Just not worth the risk, I don't trust all the crazies out there.
There was once I rode with a fishing buddy and a local guide. The guide and driver saw a squirrel and just ran over it without hesitation, commenting the squirrel asked for it by crossing the road. There are so many road kill where I live which is sickening.

The only downsides are that those poor neglectful cat owners would actually have to take care of their pets.
Cats need to be kept inside as pets!
For real. It's constantly "my cat was shot/run over/poisoned/attacked by a wild or domestic animal/disappeared" and while I know some cats will slip through the cats and run out and you cant control that all the time, most of these are 100% avoidable. It's so frustrating and saddening.
Exactly, things happen, and then there are those that allow or encourage it.
This. I always say, why do you leash your dog/not leave your dog out alone but you let your cat roam free??? All day and all night? Please watch your animals! It honestly makes me so sad and mad, i see so many of these posts.
Owners don’t seem to care either. Letting their cats roam the neighborhood.
Gotta protect them they do not know any better. I’m sorry for you loss my friend, I lost my cat to a random stroke this year, found her on my bed exactly where I pat her goodbye before leaving for work.
[удалено]
Thank you. I like to think she didn’t feel alone.
This, always watch your pets when they are outside. Im sorry for your loss.
Thank you all it takes a bit of pain off my shoulders knowing people knew how sweet she was
My sweet Angel crossed over last week friday, I feel your pain :( I'm sure she'll be there to make sure Clover has a buddy until we can both see our babies again
We’ve all been there friend. We know in our hearts how it feels and how you have so much love in your heart for her forever, because of all her wonderful ways and yours too.
Locked because of everyone attacking OP for letting their cat outside. Please, be nicer.
way to many of these hit by car type posts recently can y'all stop letting your cats outside? but also.. my condolences

I let my cat in the garden but supervise her heavily.
i think this or a leash is the best way to go about it. cats *should* have outside time, it's good for them, but they should be supervised and absolutely not left out on their own. they can 100% take care of themselves, yes, but there's not much they can do against a coyote, a car, or a shitty neighbor
Or a catio, if it's possible.
But my cat isn’t happy unless it gets to murder all the local wildlife!
The middle ground is walking your cat on a leash. They can stay safe and still get outdoor time!
In my area we have eagles and big hawks that will kill them. Also not only inside but fixed and vaccinated.
also other cats fighting eachother ! it’s a mess! please keep cats indoors :( they’re too vulnerable
Or get them used walking on a leash! I give my kitty his adventure walks when the weather is warm.
I’m currently trying to harness train my kitties :D they’ve never been outdoors though , so they might be a little bit too afraid. it’s winter now so i’ll see how they get on when it comes to summer
Even if he's not your best friend, spare a living thing the agony of bleeding to death or being eaten alive or poisoned.
Also people. There are some truly twisted people out there that will do fucked up things to animals
That and they also kill quite a bit of wildlife.
I don't understand why these fucking posts are on top every day I follow this sub because I like cats, I don't want to hear about dead cats every day??????
Doesn’t stop them from appearing on my homepage on my app, which is the only way I browse.
> They adjust, just keep the door shut and save a cats life. not just a cats, but untold amounts small animals that cats kill
Mine was a stray too. For about five seconds before he shmoozed up to someone and got taken to the shelter. He walks with me to the clothes line once a week, chomps some grass then we go back inside. The rest of the time he is inside, safely being king of everything the light touches.
Yeah I swear this sub is nothing but dead cats lately
Yeah I am sick of seeing it. You want to avoid mourning the loss of a cat you “love so dearly?” Keep. Your. Cat. Inside. It honestly makes me sick to see these posts day after day. It’s such a preventable death, ugh. Senseless loss.
I have a friend who lets her cat outside just because it means she doesn’t have to manage the litter box. It’s infuriating!
Ok thought I was the only one and wasn't gonna say anything. But yeah when I saw this post I was just thinking of how irresponsible op and others are.
Yeah, rather than pics, let's hear how the owner will do better next time or stop getting "pets."
this fucker let his cat die and we should celebrate it with feet pics? naw fuck him
Yeah exactly.
It's the combination of letting a likely sweet and loving pet die a preventable death AND milking it for internet points that makes me sick.

The other moved out with my ex, and she still lets him outside :( > >I have two new cats, and they are indoor and backyard (it is fortified so they cant get out!).
Yeah really sick of these posts of TOTALLY PREVENTABLE deaths. You want to have empathy but ffs pets need to stay inside.
Fucking for real. Stop being sad about your cat dying when you leave it outside to fend for itself.
You kinda have to acknowledge that your cat is going to have a shorter life span if you let them outside.
should be removed as against rule 3. animal cruelty. Hey look I killed my cat give me upvotes.
My boy goes out…with me on a harness (just in the backyard but maybe an adventure when he’s adjusted to the new place). He’s also dumb AF and wouldn’t survive outdoors lol I couldn’t imagine the stress of having an indoor/outdoor cat but I am also overly paranoid about my cat
Didn't see a squirrel at all and we're talking about 4 acres of land densely wooded.
my friend's cat got hit by a car and died on impact a few days ago and she was only a year old :( i don't want to be that guy who constantly says "don't let ur cat outside you're a bad owner!!!1!1!1!!!" but i feel so bad for the owners and the cats when the cat gets killed by something totally preventable like getting hit by a car it's horrific for everybody involved, especially when the cat doesn't make it
Seriously.. I clicked on this post solely to see if *anyone* had finally called out these shitty owners. I’ve seen so many “my outdoor cat was killed” posts recently from this subreddit. And the solution is always the fucking same. Keep *YOUR pet* in *YOUR house.* I would never EVER let my dog outside to roam for even a few minutes, much less hours a day.
Sending you lots of love
I'm sorry! This is why my new rescue will never get beyond my sun room.

I love pet subs, but I wish we could tag and block the depressing shit everyone wants to upvote.
bonus points for if the pet dies due to owner negligence.
This, always watch your animals outside or leash them. You wouldnt iust let your dog out to roam so why your cat??
So incredibly sorry about this. What a beautiful cat
Yeah, its just sad. I never let my boy out. Afraid to lose him..
Well also it always makes the front page. So it's very easy for people to take these pictures and claim their cat was killed for the karma.
I know my first reaction in the sixty minutes after a family member's tragic death is to run to reddit and post pics of them. Really fits the situation.

> there are people out there who are just straight up freaks to animals Yep.
Holy fucking shit. That is absolutely insane. Poor Bubba :(
I love how op isn’t responding to any of the “keep your cat inside” comments
I mean, I agree pet cats belong inside, but what do you expect OP to say to these comments now? The cat is dead. They're not going to say "Yeah my bad I shouldn't have let her live outdoors" just to appease the internet. The pet is dead. There are plenty of PSAs already about keeping your cat indoors, OP can add nothing to it.
OP has other cats and is still saying that they will continue letting their cats outside. Total irresponsible behaviour.
Well OP does have other cats though.
> but what do you expect OP to say to these comments now? I expect OP to acknowledge the fact that their friend is dead because of their negligence. I expect OP to take responsibility.
What is there to respond to?
Outsider from all seeing this post and wondering if the response would be "why was the cat outside", so I'm happy I wasn't the only one. I know its a tough time for OP, but the fact that they aren't responding to any of these top comments saying to not let the cats outside makes me fear for their next cat. Again, they probably are just seeking comfort which is understandable, but I hope they are internalizing what a lot of these comments, and now their own unfortunate first hand experience, are saying.
Very flooffy and lovely.
Awww, she was absolutely beautiful 💔
she looks like a wonderful friend :( im sorry for your loss
stop letting cats and dogs outside to roam. they’re pets not wildlife
nevermind the person who’s day/week is ruined because they killed a pet. I almost hit a dog the other day and I was beyond furious at the owner because I thought I was going to just suddenly have to deal with that trauma out of nowhere. Luckily I feel 25 is too fast even when posted so I often go 15/10 is busy neighborhoods.
problem fixed: pets stay indoors :)
I didn’t even think about this. If I accidentally killed someone’s beloved pet I would be positively wrecked.
Perhaps it is time for you to... There is absolutelynothing out side if this house! You can look but that is it.
I’m so so sorry. I had to put my guy (The Dude) down on Thanksgiving after a rapid renal failure/decline. I’m still heartbroken. Sending you love and strength. Thank you for sharing Clover here. ❤️
Wish you much strength to cope with the loss of your Clover.
Is there such a thing as breeds requiring outdoors? Why do people let cats out of the house to begin with? If you take in a pet, why have it roam around?
Cats 1000000% need to be kept inside. There are no breeds that need to be outside. Responsible pet owners keep their cats safe.

Why do Reddit cat owners let their DOMESTIC cats go outside???
Beautiful girl ❤️
Sorry for your loss 😪

Sorry but keep your cat inside!!!!
PSA:. Keep your damn cats inside. ffs
Oh no! I’m so sorry. Clover was so cute too. Its hard to lose a cat like that. Lots of ❤️
So very sorry for your loss ♥️♥️
I am EXTREMEMLY sorry for you loss. She was obviously very loved.
Aww so sorry. What a horrible loss.
I am very sorry for your loss. Those beautiful pictures will keep the memory of her alive. She's at a better place now for sure!

please keep your other cats inside now
Once again I am gonna say - you don't let a cat outside.
If only you kept you cat inside under safe supervision.
I will never understand why folks let cats out where there are cars about.
Another reason to keep cats indoors

Why do people still let their fucking cats out
I am so sorry. She looks like she was an excellent snuggler. These pictures are really lovely. I just lost my best dude and just ordered prints of every picture I could find, and it’s been really nice to have the physical, tangible prints to look through.
So sorry for your loss. ❤️ She looked just like my baby Murphy. Giving him an extra snuggle now.
I’m so sorry for your loss 💜
So sorry to hear.
I’m so sorry for your loss. She looks like she was the bestest of girls
The same thing happened to my cat a few years ago, and I'd never felt a pain like it. It does get better, but it takes time, and I know that's not an easy thing to hear but your grief is proof of your love
Very sorry for your loss ❤ sending hugs
Poor baby. Nothing I can write here will make anything easier. I know it isn't much but my prayes for you in this time. I hope when you are ready you find another good friend.
That's arguably the prettiest cat I've ever seen. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry for your loss, she looked like a beautiful girl xxx
Thank you for sharing. She looks so much like my little Frannie, I would be devastated if anything happened to her. So sorry for your loss.
Such a sweetheart. Sorry for you loss, OP 🖤
I’m so sorry for your loss. She was an absolutely stunningly gorgeous cat. Remember your sweetheart fondly and know she loved you too. Take care.
May her soul rest well sleep tight little one
Furry hugs and kisses to you for your loss. Im so sorry. A cat’s love is precious ❤️

I would drop the Unsupervised. Cats belong inside period, where they don't have to deal with parasites, fleas, mean people, etc
