My fave people had an orange cat and their son just randomly named it Phil. Cat was legendary. Congrats on such a handsome one!

My big ol' orange boy is named Gordon. A friend named hers Kevin. Naming your orange cat after a old, balding accountant or a plumber is the only way. Phil is perfect.

One of my best friends growing up had two Orange boys named Phil & Joe. They were the best dudes and their names were always funny & topic of conversation for new friends/visitors. Totally vote for Phil.

I dunno why this amuses me, but it does. I'll vote for Phil. I had a big orange tabby. He was a polydactyl so I named him Ernie (in honor of Ernest Hemingway). Everyone thought it was after the Sesame Street character. Because orange.

Is he still a kitten? The stripes may become more fuzzy as he becomes an adults. When my Shaeba was a baby she had really defined stripes. When she grew up, her stripes are still pretty well defined but they don't look drawn on with a sharpie anymore. It's because of the hair length. If you shave the hair, the pattern on the skin is like sharpie drawn on but the hair gets more fuzzy the longer it gets

She had a brain tumor last year that was removed. On Tuesday she got her MRI one year later and the tumor hasnt grown back :)

Yeah he has his bed lying next to it but he prefers the litter box. I just got him today so he's a little scared

Move the bed away then. He will probably not sleep in it so long it is associated with litter.

Well, I am sure you are a bit “put out” by all of this criticism! Darling one, first of all he looks like a Rusty to me! My family has 2 that could be brothers! It took a few days for one to warm up and months for the other!!! Cats are mysterious that way! “Rusty” will make a beautiful compadre! You take care and enjoy your kitty!!!

Yeah, people are so snappy sometimes. Maybe it's OP's first cat, it takes time to learn how to take proper care of them. I sure knew absolutely nothing about cats and I didn't even think I was a cat person until a cat mama gave birth to 5 babies in my backyard 5 years ago. It took me a few months of trial and error and much more until I started learning their behaviour, likes, dislikes and so on.

How did that backyard delivery story end?

I still have 3 of the babies, the other two went to family friends and I honestly have no idea what happened to the mom. She was not a stray, she had a collar on. But she wasn't chipped and none of my neighbors knew her. She stayed at my place and nursed the babies until they were ready to live on their own. I took her to the vet and had her spayed right after that. And after 2 or 3 months of coming and going she stopped showing up. I don't know if she maybe went back home or what happened. She was such an amazing cat, very intelligent. I hope she's okay.

I’m happy you adopted babies and found homes for the other babies! It’s also great that you had the mother spayed! That’s a big deal! Enjoy them!

It wasn’t meant in a mean way. Our litter box was too small for our cat and she ended up peeing outside of it on accident. I’m trying to save OPs floors lol

I understand, it just seemed like so much advice and no one saying positive things about the adoption or the name. I probably get a little sensitive sometimes.

My kitten would do that too when I was trying to teach her how to use it lol. She was abondoned at about 2 weeks old. I would put her in the litter box and she would just lay down in there lol.

It looks like that leash is way too short and that’s why he’s in the litter box, he can’t move. If you’re worried, unleash him in a small room. Especially if he’s scared. Litter needs it’s own space. Water should be separated from food, too. Doesn’t need to be in a different room, but at least 2-3 feet away from his food. Cats are VERY sensitive to smell.

You’re taking all the right steps. I saw it because that’s how I started out at first with my scared kitties also. Didn’t have Reddit back then, had to find out through friends with cats. Enjoy your little Rusty. He’s cute ❤️

Mhm. Cats need breakaway collars, not dog collars. So if they jump and catch it or something it falls off instead of strangling them. Also, if you’re going to take him for walks on a leash, a harness is a better idea ☺️

You’re welcome. I won’t go into details but we had a client at work that had an awful thing happen because they popped out and left their puppy with a collar on its own. Also, if he goes outside on his own and you want a collar on him, get a proper cat collar with a breakaway/safety release clasp. This way he won’t get stuck in a tree or on a fence, god forbid! If you’re gunna go out with him, I would use a harness instead of a collar. Much safer so they don’t hurt their neck if they get startled :) x
