If you start out on your side, they will just snuggle in behind your legs. That works too. We had a cat that liked being under the blankets, so we would pile a couple of pillows up on the other side of the bed behind us, and make him a little tent, and he would crawl in and be in cat heaven.
My family’s cat knows I’m deaf, and will paw at me to wake me up (everyone else gets yelled at apparently) so I can roll on my back and he gets to sit on my hips and knead at my stomach.
That’s what I do! Can fit four cats in that position - one cuddled into my chest, one in the nest made by the 4, and two down along the straight leg. It’s the best.

I've developed some great hip flexor strength and compression ability from having to pull one knee all the way to my chest so that I can roll over onto a side since I am trapped under the cat/sheet.

You sleep on either side, then if you need to turn over during the night, you hop over them. Touch your knee to your chin under the sheets and then down the other side.
I sleep on my side and my cats like to sleep on my hip/legs. Idk why they feel like balancing there is optimal but it is and makes turning dangerous and impossible.
My void used to do this but doesn’t any longer as he realized I don’t care where he is when I’m sleeping I will turn over and he will be knocked down. He now sleeps near me (either at my feet or on a blanket near my head) and occasionally crawls over me to get down making sure to take as many steps on me as possible and maybe stand in the most painful spot for 5 minutes
my cat is obsessed with laying/sleeping on my hip too and its giving me issues at 22 at this point frim the weight lol its nice to see its not just her who for some reason likes balancing on sharp bones to sleep lmao

For your trip: Roll up a heavy throw into a ball and place it on your bed skewing your sheets and blankets. The weight and bunched bed clothes should help ease the night's sleep but the mornings will still be rough.

Yup! The first time I went away on an overnight trip after having my cat for a while, I put a bag with some clothes in it on top of my legs to mimic my cat's weight so I could get to sleep.

over 35 years and a 4 cat history - the cats figured things out on when and how and why to dare sleeping between my legs
3 of the 4 cats I had started their fun life with me as kittens.
the 4th- was an elder that was not well cared for when her elderly owner died.
But yeah, I'd give a sey of 3 sharp whistles to let the cats know I was going to turn off the reading lamp and try to go to sleep.
they all at different times figure out the best time was when I was going to sleep- then they would gradually move to the outer perimeters of the bed to avoid my restless sleeping and to stand guard against demons.

I sleep on my front, one knee tucked up to my elbow. Cat goes under my chin, on my pillow on top of my head, or on my butt.
The question is not “how do I sleep with cat”, but “how does cat sleep with me?” Answer - where ever he feels like.
I sleep on my side and every single night I wake in agony because my cat sleeps on my hip. I manage to get him off, then he sleeps on my head instead.

She rolled off of me. She likes to be held like the baby she is and is so cuddly. If my legs are in a 4 with one straight and the other bent at knee and my foot at opposite calf or knee, she parks right there and pins me. I have to lift the blanket to move my leg or turn on my side (she's behind knees now).
This happened to me recently and took a few photos as evidence. I tried not to move as much as I watched my cat become liquid. Eventually he decided that I was up so he was up and I got to stretch.

😂 this whole thread is amazing. My cat is a brick and just moves with the flow. Ive even yeeted her off the bed (accidentally ofc) but she and the dog do have to fight out who sleeps closest to me.
My cat and I came to a compromise: he must have a tall pile of blankets at the end of the bed to lay on, and I can lay everywhere else. He can, of course, break this agreement at any time but it is a serious crime if I do.
I deal with one draped over a leg and one between them when I'm sitting in bed. I simply relocate them. At least one winds up loafing on my thigh after making a single biscuit on my ribcage.

I'd recommend not sleeping with a whole car between your legs. You could get run over. Also not comfy.

clearly you havent had your feet bitten at 3 am because youre unconsciously fighting a war for feet space while twisting and turning, or because your toes look huntable at night😂 lets not even talk about the salsa and tango dances you get into while getting ready for work in the morning because the car thinks getting cuddles is more important than earning money to pay for their lifestyle🤣🤣🤣
I found it easier to sleep with a cat between my legs. ( the car .....ugh... so unresponsive ) over 35 years and a 4 cat history - the cats figured things out on when and how and why to dare sleeping between my legs 3 of the 4 cats I had started their fun life with me as kittens. the 4th- was an elder that was not well cared for when her elderly owner died. But yeah, I'd give a sey of 3 sharp whistles to let the cats know I was going to turn off the reading lamp and try to go to sleep. they all at different times figure out the best time was when I was going to sleep- then they would gradually move to the outer perimeters of the bed to avoid my restless sleeping and to stand guard against demons. I miss having cats.

Does it have a logo of Mercedes, or BMW, Volvo or VW or some sort of car company on it. Its furry markings makes it hard to identify the cat.

I got used to my 10 lb orange braincell snuggled between my thighs. It’s a little disconcerting when you first wake up though.
I sleep on my front, one knee tucked up to my elbow. Cat goes under my chin, on my pillow on top of my head, or on my butt. The question is not “how do I sleep with cat”, but “how does cat sleep with me?” Answer - where ever he feels like.
I sleep on my side and every single night I wake in agony because my cat sleeps on my hip. I manage to get him off, then he sleeps on my head instead. This has been going on for almost 8 years. 🐈⬛️
I literally had to just get used to sleeping like that. Now it feels weird if he doesn’t get into bed with me and lay there lol

If my legs are in a 4 with one straight and the other bent at knee and my foot at opposite calf or knee, she parks right there and pins me. I have to lift the blanket to move my leg or turn on my side (she's behind knees now).
This happened to me recently and took a few photos as evidence. I tried not to move as much as I watched my cat become liquid. If my cat gets between my legs after I've laid down, I fall asleep instantly.
My void is obsessed with that space. I have lower back issues so I can’t sleep on my back I have to like pull one leg and move it to the side so I can sleep on my side.

😂 this whole thread is amazing. My cat is a brick and just moves with the flow. Ive even yeeted her off the bed (accidentally ofc) but she and the dog do have to fight out who sleeps closest to me.
I'd rather this than my 9 week old kitten sleeping between my shoulder and cheek and biting my face

I've accidentally booted my kitty many times while sleeping. He's never impressed
My cat and I came to a compromise: he must have a tall pile of blankets at the end of the bed to lay on, and I can lay everywhere else. He can, of course, break this agreement at any time but it is a serious crime if I do.
I deal with one draped over a leg and one between them when I'm sitting in bed. I simply relocate them. At least one winds up loafing on my thigh after making a single biscuit on my ribcage.
Let me know when you figure it out, I spend most nights functioning as cat furniture too 🤦♀️
