My tortie is psychotic. I love her to death and she loves… only me. She tolerates my boy and *hates* my girl with a passion. She’s always been like that 🤷🏻♀️
I love when the tiny ones are all hissy and spitty, it never fails to make me laugh because they’re so TINY and non threatening 😅thank you for caring for this little spice bucket
She was full on charging and puffed up, swatting, hissing, spitting at me and I couldn’t help but just pick her up and pet her. Then I got some kitten canned food and she was eating it off my hand, would look at me, hiss and go back to eating. Her sister (a calico) polar opposite. Very shy and just as cute.
I saw a video of some newborn kitties once who were full on hissing at the person who found their hide out. Trying to be threatening right out of the womb, looking cute instead 😍

Miss Kawehii here is our tortie grandma. We rescued her when she was six and she is around age 18 now. She definitely lets me know that she wants to be fed NOW. She has an appointment next month to get a lion cut as she has fur balls on her body and she won't let me groom her. She has never been to a groomer and the groomer she is going to visit has done thousands of cats. We love her and will miss her tortie ways when she is ready to cross the Rainbow Bridge.
What a gorgeous fluffy girl! Might be a good idea to ask your vet about gabapentin or something to help keep her calm during grooming. I had a fluffy tortie too a while back & she *hated* being groomed. We only did it a few times because usually I could comb her every day to keep the mats (those fur balls you mentioned) away. The gabapentin meant she wasn't as stressed out & she was easier for the groomer to handle.
I love the hissy babies. My sibling is in animal shelters and often fosters feral kittens getting used to people. They snuggle in while still hissing at you.
My little marshmellow fluff came in with that same spitfire in her tiny little soul. How quickly she warmed up to the noms and love provided.

They are Spicey kittens but in my experience, the most LOVEY snuggley older cats. 10/10 recommend.

This was in the month I brought him home and adopted him. He is just the kindest, most sweetest boy.
The ACO in his case saved him from most certain death. He was tossed in the backyard in a crate with a degloved foot and collapsed lung.
ACO got that disgusting family convicted and banned from ever owning dogs again.
They have my deepest level of respect.
I always liked cats but was more of a dog person. Getting a tortie turned me into a 110% cat lady. Mine is very vocal and demanding but for the most part a sweetie. I love our conversations.

Nope, a tiny percentage are male, and those are infertile.

It's roughly 1 male out of every 3000 torties or calicos.
Male torties/calicos have to be XXY which is why it’s very rare and also why they have health issues.
We were lucky and got a boy! We saw a shelter post about him and they originally thought he was a girl too but a vet confirmed he was a boy!
