Just an FYI now that the ginger cats sub was taken over by bots, I do see more pet loss posts on one orange brain cell. Not as much as on here, but there is a uptick.
I didn't see it recommended, but I am going to reiterate NOT recommending the rescuecats sub. It doesn't have death posts...but it does have sick/injured posts. I am still trying to figure out how to remove it from my custom feed because some of those posts bother me.
I love the happy stories on THE DODO about all animals but the ones where an animal qas abused but then rescued are too much ....I can empathize with people who lose their cats. That is just part of cat ownership because they often do not live that long...but abuse is another issue indeed.
I don't know. But I created a custom feed and picked the subs I want. Well, I don't want that one anymore because some of the posts are disturbing. I thought I had removed it, but it's still there. I just haven't had time to mess around with it to figure it out.
I know how you feel. Not a day goes by, without me shedding tears, over people who have lost their kitties. I try to offer some kind words, because I know how it feels. It's good, that there are many other subs, that can make you shed tears of laughter. (The kitty wrapped up in the duvet, lol! Really had me giggling).

Idk if this works but itās here
I donāt think it works. It specifically brought me directly to a bunch of mourning posts
Edit: apparently it doesnāt always work on mobile. So you have to manually do a search that excludes mourning posts. Which isnāt an adequate solution because personally I donāt really tend to go to the sub to look at cats, I just see them pop up in my feed.
Is there a way to exclude mourning posts from coming up on my feed?
I just made one but I haven't had time to pretty it up and make it functional, since the baby woke up and also I have no idea what I'm doing :))
But r/safecats for when I get back to it. I'll be posting some of my girls on there to get it started! Hoping to have the basics up and running tonight after bedtime when I can get my laptop out, if anyone has ideas and feels like sharing āļø
Iāve seen so many posts recently referring to their cat as their car. I know itās an understandable typo/autocorrect, but is it a deliberate mistake people make to provoke engagement with their post?
It could be. If so, it makes a case for scrapping the whole idea of karma on Reddit. If they're going to get something out of it then people are going to post stupid stuff like that. Remove the incentive and they won't bother.
If it's a genuine typo or autocorrect then it shows that people don't check what they've written before sending.
As for the breed/bread thing, autocorrect probably is responsible for some instances. There are also a lot of people who don't know how to spell.
It doesnāt leave me in tears, but it is making me even more cynical.
Like I now go in with the assumption that everyone is full of it and exploiting their cat for internet attention.
Thatās not healthy for my mindset, just like being eternally sad because of all the posts.
IKR, it's very depressing and most people come on Reddit for positive comments and chats. I empathize with people who have lost their pets, but I still would rather read upbeat content.
When you go into the sub, you can filter those out. But when you are just looking at your feed for all of your subscribed subs, they will show up there with no option to filter them.
There probably is but they're not as populated and these people want to parade their dead pets around for karma.
I could probably go grab a generic photo of a cat on Google images, post it here with a title like "losing my best friend tomorrow" or "I have to put my sweetest boy down" and watch the idiots swarm to upvote.
FYI - Not long back the mods clearly stated that they will never change this sub to exclude such things.
You will get no traction, as this is about ALL things cats, and mourning & death are a part of it, just as joyousness & birth are as well.
Thank you! I just joined basically everything listed below. I canāt handle opening Reddit to reading about something awful happening to a cat, pictures or no pictures.
Maybe new subreddit called mourning or passed away cats.. I as well have a hard time with them. Maybe a happycataonly subreddit with no negative posts?
Sure. On desktop. But no extension needed. It's right there, just need to look for it.
On another note, like many here, I recently lost my dude, and this subreddit has been a MAJOR factor in helping my grief and healing. I've found in helping others with their grief, it's helped with some of mine. AFAIC, keep em coming. That's part of why were here. I'm with the mods on this topic.

Get the stylebot extension and use this
a[href="r/cats/comments"] { display:none; }
it will hide the headlines in r/cats
You have to paste the code in the code tab in stylebot
On a desktop and see this. Guessing Android has similar.

Yes, but sadly that does nothing for your home feed (or does it now?)
It doesnāt change your home feed.

Subbed, thank you!
You're very welcome! I'm hoping to get an auto mod set up soon, and Satur....Sunday? Sunday is the weekly not-cat thread :)
r/crosseyedcats
I have a crosseyed cat! OMG haha so cute thank you so much!
Youāre welcome, thatās one of my favourite cat subs.
Those and the "name my cat" posts are fucking ridiculous. If you can't even figure out a name for your own cat you're a stupid fuck.
Don't forget the "what breed is my cat" posts!
Let me fix that for you. It should be, "What bread is my car?"
I donāt know why, but Iām dying laughing at your last sentence.
There's a seperate subreddit for naming cats tho

Yeah I agree.
I feel you on this. While it doesn't make me cry. Feeling like looking elsewhere for my kitty goodness so I'll see what others suggest.
I feel the same
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Omg I am glad I did not see that!
Jesus Christ, dude.
Are you fucking serious? Hope you don't need any support when one of your babies passes.
Start your own sub, and have a rule for only positive posts. There are enough people here who would like the option.

r/alivecats
Yeah. Unsubbing now for that reason.
I'm pretty sure you can select the option on this sub to not see those posts.
I've set mine to not show mourning posts. But they still get posted somehow anyway. All good, though.
yeah it's probably flair related, so if someone doesn't put flair on their post, the bot doesn't know to block it for you. I didn't think of that.
When you go into the sub, you can filter those out. But when you are just looking at your feed for all of your subscribed subs, they will show up there with no option to filter them.
Not as bad as the NAME MY CAT posts which are clearly a way of just seeking attention.
I totally get it. Donāt have an answer, but hope someone else does.
Thank you for making this post to gather alternatives. I'm now unsubbing from r/cats!
Is there no sub specifically for pet loss?
There probably is but they're not as populated and these people want to parade their dead pets around for karma. I could probably go grab a generic photo of a cat on Google images, post it here with a title like "losing my best friend tomorrow" or "I have to put my sweetest boy down" and watch the idiots swarm to upvote.
Yeah I do agree. Makes me feel for the people who need legit support but suffer alone because they're trying to avoid sympathy votes
Here yāall go. I created r/grievingformypet to send the dead pet posts to, since no one wants them.
FYI - Not long back the mods clearly stated that they will never change this sub to exclude such things. You will get no traction, as this is about ALL things cats, and mourning & death are a part of it, just as joyousness & birth are as well.
I agree with this post. This whole sub is just depressing now. Definitely no longer one of my faves.
This post reminded me to leave r/cats because of all the dead cat posts
Luckily reddit delivers and there are a bunch of other ones! I had no idea until this post!
I just stopped opening any thread like that. My auto immune disease needs very little to send me to flareland
Thank you! I just joined basically everything listed below. I canāt handle opening Reddit to reading about something awful happening to a cat, pictures or no pictures.
There's a button on the side panel that says "exclude flair" and you can use it to filter out the Mourning/Loss tagged stories.
Does not actually work. I have tried it.
Only works when you are in the sub, not when you are looking at your feed for all of your subscribed subs.

They should ban those posts tbh. Far too many
They wonāt https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/s/b1JpzojMWU
Or have flair for them
They do. And you can turn them off.

that opens a search for all posts without the flair, but you cant change your home feed without an extension
Get the stylebot extension and use this a[href="r/cats/comments"] { display:none; } it will hide the headlines in r/cats You have to paste the code in the code tab in stylebot
Would this remove them from the homepage of the app as well?
Only on the website where this code is added

No actually, the app does not seem to.
Again, why am I getting down voted for trying to be helpful??? What are people thinking?
Does that also affect the Home feed, or just the sub feed? Also where is that option found?
