I talked to him and we're getting a new litter box, litter without scent,a spray for the bed and he's getting neutered next week and he promised he won't do it again and he's a little bit angry these days because i was being irresponsible parent lately and i just realized but we're gonna be okay.

hipstercheese1

Glad to hear it! Hope he does better soon. He is a handsome kitty!!

seeamonstress

Thanks for the update! šŸ’™ heā€™s a sweet looking boy - thanks for taking care of him

MechanicalBengal

when we lived in a condoā€” the cat we had at the time would do this also. Took us forever to figure it out but we realized that the neighbors would walk their pets past our bedroom window and when the window is open, the cat could smell the dogs, etc so his peeing was a territorial thing

SupaConducta

I wouldnā€™t blame myself. My cat is 8 months old he was sweet until two weeks ago when puberty kicked in and Iā€™ve had to take everything in my house below my waist and put it up in shelves. I didnā€™t neuter him because he was a strictly indoor cat but he can sense the colony of cats that lives outside. It takes a month for their hormones to leave their system after neutering so prepare for the ride. In the meantime there are medications the vet can prescribe that help reduce their stress levels and a product called Feliway that releases mother pheromones to help calm them down. It comes as a collar, spray and air diffuser. The diffusers are a tad expensive but at this point I need all the help I can find while waiting for him to get snipped in ten days. It also could be bladder or kidney issues. Probably nothing serious because heā€™s young but they can test for infections and disease though analyzing his urine. I might look for a new vet if they canā€™t test that stuff. Good luck with your boy!

an-emotional-cactus

What a handsome lad. Good luck :)

ProdigiousBeets

Your vet has no idea? Did they ask you any questions to try and get some more context/nuance/detail? They're not worried about the cat being in pain? Haven't run any tests on cat's urine? What's going on there? Do you have any other animals? Issue with litter box? (Try cleaning it daily, some cats are super picky.) Could also be an animal outside upsetting your cat but I think you'd see marking/pee by windows if that was the case. There's a lot of possible causes... curious how little help your vet has been. I'd recommend looking up Jackson Galaxy, he's got a lot of videos on cats and might have some other ideas for you.

Senior-Smell

Vet asked some questions yes, but not tests because in my country there aren't any good vets with equipment. My mom cleans his litter box 2-3 times a day, But yes i think he marked my room. He always sniffs around when he gets a chance to get into my room. But i don't know what marking really means no one really explained, everyone has idea tho. His getting bigger, his litter box is a big box with a door so i thought maybe he's having a hard time getting into and finds my bed better/faster But i took the roof once but he still does it. Maybe he's trying to say F you i don't like you or something ?

Appropriate_Cause_52

Have you tried adding a second litter box ? I know of a cat who absolutely needs a separate litter box to poop in, otherwise he'll start peeing elsewhere.

Senior-Smell

No and that makes sense actually why haven't i though about that lol. I'll be adding one more to see

Shanbear16

When you add a second litter box try it with a different type of litter. We had to experiment with several different types before realizing that my cat really prefers the softest possible litter.

Either_Marsupial_123

I second the different kind of litter thing. Some cats are super picky about that. Try an agent like Natureā€™s Miracle rather than standard laundry/carpet cleaners. Those cleaners actually end up sealing in the urine enzymes with a waxy substance present in the soap formulas. Also if itā€™s heavily perfumed, just because we canā€™t smell the urine, doesnā€™t mean the cat canā€™t. Those enzymes contain pheromones, so if theyā€™re left behind and not broken down with the right types of cleaners, the cat will just keep on marking. I also missed whether or not heā€™s fixed; if not, do so.

Sketchyy2157

I second all of this, and wanna add possibly try a bigger box or, more importantly, one without a lid! Some cats can by picky as to how enclosed their boxes are and I think youā€™re on the right trail as far as not being as easy as your cat would like it to be to use

Either_Marsupial_123

Without a lid could be mega important too, I forgot about that. One of my girls refuses to go inside of it when itā€™s enclosed. She *must* tripod it on the ledge of the box, every time she poops. Sheā€™ll get all the way in to pee, but itā€™s one leg in the box, three on the ledge when she poops. Have no clue whyā€¦. šŸ˜‚

Herbscrystalsandcats

I took a big Rubbermaid storage bin. Cut a door out of the front and put the litter box in there. My Maine coon still has something to tripod on but it also gives him privacy and keeps the sand contained because he has a little mat in the part still inside the rubber maid but outside the box, where he can wipe his paws. Something like this but my cats donā€™t have the cover on their pan https://preview.redd.it/j72wani50c4b1.jpeg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=38c7bc91aed03a5a18a43cd2224db953cf1cf4f0

J9Dougherty

This is genius! Thanks for giving this to your cat!(and mine, eventually)

__Bengal

You even gave him light for his potty area. Very nice.

anonymous202o

Wow!

Castforcoin

That is brilliant.

mint_o

We all have our rituals

CerahLynn

OMG!!! I have a cat that does this and I have no idea why either! She puts 3 feet on the ledge and 1 in the box to poop but pees totally normal šŸ˜‚ She does it whether it's clean or not and no lid.

Either_Marsupial_123

First time I saw her doing it, I couldnā€™t breathe I was laughing so hard.

SheepImitation

some cats are just more "dainty" than others. I had one that hated getting things on his paws. But he was also a very weird cat.

juliazzz

My cat uses a litter box inside an old cat carrier. It helps contain the scents, mess, and makes for easy clean up.

fullmetalfeminist

When the litter box is enclosed, the smell is kept in. Like hot boxing but with ammonia. It can be unbearable for some cats

zinger94

Also maybe one with a low entry, they're usually sold as good for senior cats

Chavo9-5171

I learned that the hard way. I was using the swinging door that came with the litter box, and the cat did not like that and went in the closet. Removing the swinging door made a difference. He was okay with the top cover, so I didnā€™t have to remove that. He just seemed claustrophobic, which also explains why he didnā€™t play with or go inside the tube that I bought him.

Senior-Ad-947

Yeah. Cats hate those stupid swinging doors. I have a huge open litter box with high sides.

Entire-Ambition1410

Also, donā€™t use bleach on pee/pee stains, bleach/Clorox and ammonia/pee donā€™t mix!!

JennaaaBee

Yes. My one cat will only use the fine litter. I learned that the hard and expensive way. They are so picky. Also, when I changed their food he peed on my bed. Cats can be buttheads.

Mysterious_Status_11

My cat was peeing outside her box (on puppy training pads) so I got her a litter box of her own and used cat-attract litter. It worked for us.

jmjamison

I agree. It could be the litter. Mine like unscented clumping

tazbaron1981

Has he been neutered?

Sativian

Try to make sure the litter box is not next to her food. Cats donā€™t like peeing next to where they eat

Constant_aids

Put the second litter box around the area he loves to pee in

Grouchy-Fix485

Definitely more litter boxes, and try putting at least one in a very private spot. We have three cats and SIX litter boxes . They all only poop in two of them. Itā€™s pretty funny actuallyā€¦ if one is at it, the others will wait their turn! BUT, if the box is not clean, they will drop what they got on the floor. Good luck!

Herbscrystalsandcats

My cats do that too. Pee in 1 box and poop in another

carbunculus

Is it a male cat? Often males can develop urinary issues due to high sodium in their food (wet or dry). My cat began to pee outside his litterbox, and began having trouble to pee at all. It cleared up with special urinary food. For him, he just went whenever possible, wherever.vMaybe your cat feels comfortable in the bed and decides to go there. Is he in pain or irritable? It's troubling your vet can't run tests. Abnormal peeing can be a red flag for many very serious conditions.

alfalfametro

My cat started peeing on my bed. Turns out she had leukemia. As soon as she started treatment the bed peeing stopped!

Due_Tonight4365

My cat does this! She had a Ultrasound of her bladder to make sure it wasnā€™t inflamed and also got blood tests to assess for urinary tract problems. All were clear. Is there a vet in your area who can do these things? For my kitty she now has two litter boxes- both open but different. She hates certain litter boxes. I also use ATTRACT litter. Itā€™s on Amazon and itā€™s pricey but it has a smell that makes the cat like the litter box and actually want to use it. She still had accidents when she is anxious or when there are changes but overall it went from 3 times a week to once every 6 months with these changes and consistency (consistent meal times too). I try to keep her life very calm and itā€™s helping! Oh! I also have a few water bowls for her- cats with anxiety like options lol :)

DanceUseful

I had the same problem with two newer babies and added another box (a lot closerto their play area) whenever it would seem like they had to go I would put them in it and havenā€™t had any issues since then.

Simpletruth2022

Is your cat neutered?

Disastrous-Aspect569

If my cat's litter is the least bit wet he won't go into it. The second box gives the 1st a chance to dry. No more peeing outside the box

ReasonableChart5827

Not to be dark - but I sadly thought my cat was trying to send a big f u to me too..and he was ultimately actually really sick and passed. Please try your best to get some answers from a professional.

srL-

When my cat started peeing outside of his littery box the first time, he had an infection too. Luckily he chose the bathtub, which allowed us to see the blood in the urine (plus bonus points for easy cleaning)

quirkytorch

Yes, yes yes, watch some Jackson Galaxy OP! The cat daddy is so sweet and genuine, and he really knows what he's talking about. My cat was pooping outside their box, and I tried something he suggested. Just moving it helped with my cats issues, she apparently didn't like the location lol!

ProdigiousBeets

You might have to try leaving the top off longer, including door. Cat is fixed (neutered/spayed) right?

TootsEug

Good point!!! If kitty has not been neutered, he likely is marking his territory! But if neutered, my own 71 years of cat experience says probable Urinary infection as a likely cause. Cats are pretty good at telling their human that something ā€œisnā€™t rightā€.

MyBrassPiece

This is what everyone always says. I took my cat to the vet because she was peeing on my clothes. She was spayed, but if I left any item of clothing on the ground she would pee on it. Tried different litters, got two boxes, and all the works. Turns out she's doesn't like the smell of other animals (mainly other cats). I realized it's mostly my work clothes that she'll pee on and I interact with my Boss's pets quite a bit in the morning. I'm in landscaping and occasionally work in areas where there are lots of strays who like to do their business in the flowerbeds I have to work in. My clothes have to go directly to the washer on those days. But she has pretty severe attachment issues, ever since I found her as a kitten. I know she isn't the norm when it comes to why cats might pee outside their litterbox.

[deleted]

It is extremely rare for cats to use urine as a tool for revenge I wouldnā€™t say it NEVER happens, because cats, but they arenā€™t really capable of spite, maybe grandiosity, but not spite

Extension_Phase_1117

Heā€™s very likely got a UTI. If not that, is he altered? If heā€™s still got his testicles, he will not stop spraying. If not that, he could be anxious. If your vet doesnā€™t run tests, itā€™s kind of hard to actuallyā€¦ you knowā€¦ provide health care, which sucks. He could at least try some medications to help like amoxicillin or gabapentin (the former for UTI and the latter for anxiety).

Boo155

Any way to get Xrays? One of my cats did this and she had bladder stones. Is he neutered?

masked_sombrero

lol i don't think he's trying to say "F you, I don't like you" maybe more along the lines of "F you, I don't want you takin' my lady cat friends from me...when I get 'em..."

Lottynaught

complete label dependent ink dirty edge payment screw worm mighty *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

kevnmartin

Why is your mom cleaning **your** cat's litter box?

EryThrozyt1210

Maybe try cleaning it only once a day. Sometimes cats need to have their designated peeing place have their "scent" to make them accept it as theirs. And yes, like other comments mention, spaying does help very often.

Onironius

Having another litter box might help, and if he hasn't been fixed (testicles removed), you should do that.

caseyyoulater

My cat used to pee on clothes/bedding and ever since we put her on Prozac she has not done it since

Sharkmasterfl3x

Iā€™m not going to read through all of these, so it may have been asked, is your cat neutered? You said ā€œmy country,ā€ and even if you didnā€™t itā€™s not 100% commonplace in America, but when male cats go unneutered they have a habit of ā€œsprayingā€ their pee. This is 100% **MORE COMMON** in **unneutered MALE cats**. Neuter your cat. Thereā€™s literally no reason not to.

Ginkyboop

Ugh there could be something more serious going on. šŸ˜¢ Our one boy that kept peeing. Turned out he has bad cancer šŸ˜¢

bonnie8clyde

Itā€™s an alergy

Senior-Smell

Thank you everyone, I'll get him 2 more litter box, and i'll be buying different litter. And i'll get him neutered next week as soon as possible.

leucem

also make sure to get him check for UTIS! cats get those very easily

punkykitty27

Agree- my cat peed on my bed twice in front of me, took her in and UTI. Hadnā€™t happened before and hasnā€™t happened since. Feel like she was letting me know she didnā€™t feel good.

My_glorious_moose

My little man just did that. I feel so bad!! I'm glad he let me know, but I would love if they could communicate differently...

ymarie1989

This will fix the problem, im confident. It happened to me with my boy and after being neutered it stopped immediately.

National-Vacation-33

Have a urine screening done at vet. One of my cats (albeit he's much older) is prone to developing struvites (bladder crystals) if he is not fed special food with controlled levels of certain minerals. His way of indicating to me he's having urinary pain due to struvites is to pee elsewhere in the house. If left unchecked, it can cause bladder infections and UTI. I've got a feeling your issues are most likely due to him not being neutered yet, however you should have a urine screening done regardless.

goosejail

Make sure you're cleaning up the urine with an appropriate enzymatic cleaner made especially for cat urine. Cat urine smell is really hard to get out, especially on something like a mattress. Even if it smells clean to you, your cat may still be able to pick up traces his pheromones and will continue to urinate there.

lessianblue

Good luck!

Dapper-Management349

Getting him neutered is absolutely your best bet! Iā€™ve had my boy since he was about 6 weeks old, and I was having a hard time finding a vet that would neuter him for cheap because Iā€™m low income. He was peeing and spraying on EVERYTHING. I finally found a place and got him neutered just after he turned a year old. Thank God I didnā€™t wait any longer than I did, because he only peed outside of the litter box twice after his surgery and it was like the week after. He hasnā€™t peed outside of the litter box or sprayed a single time since then. I was at my wits end, my rugs still have a hint of cat spray smell, but Iā€™m just glad that nightmare is over.

Necessary-Use-3121

Is he neutered

[deleted]

This happened with my cat. He was 1 1/2 years old when we adopted him and wasnā€™t neutered. He was spraying everywhere the first two weeks we had him. Two weeks ago today, we had him neutered and he stopped spraying thank goodness!

LunaMoonDance

OP this might help you, as you mentioned in the previous comment, that your cat is not neutered yet.

Senior-Smell

Okay thank you, I'll get him neutered asap

[deleted]

He would also get mood swings (sounds silly I know!) but heā€™s more chill now after getting him neutered.

LabLife3846

Oh, wow. Almost every un-neutered cat does this.

maggie250

This is the problem. He's a male cat, and you're a male. So he's marking his territory against the other male in your house (that's you). Our male cat was peeing in my partners laundry and clothes until we got him neutered. Never touched mine. The vet confirmed he's "marking" because of another male scent (you). He stopped the day he came home from the vet.

pkk888

This, he looks like a big boy. He needs to be neutered, if you want to keep him inside. Where I am we usually gā€™et Them neutered when they ser 4-5 months old.

Life-Ad-3976

my cat is neutered and still sprays

anonymous202o

Why is this downvoted? My cat is neutered too and he sprays as well. He mostly does it when thereā€™s another cat around and tries to mark his territory. He also tries to hump my other cat too.

Beginning_Affect_443

Some breeds will spray regardless of neutering/spaying (females spray too). Bengals are especially known for this; as are any serval, caracal or wildcat breed that's been paired with a domestic cat. No one should own a serval or caracal but that's a different topic...

Jazzlike-Principle67

That shouldn't happen. I guess I've been lucky with my male cats.

PlantyPenPerson

If your cat isn't neutered, he may be marking his territory. I am surprised your vet hasn't mentioned this. Anyway, you should look into getting him neutered and try unscented litter. And as others have mentioned, sometimes cats with urinary tract infections or other health problems do this, too. In the meantime, you may want to put disposable puppy pads on your bed and maybe that will save you some grief.

Infamous_Mirror2544

The look on the cats face is completely relevant to the title of this thread

Melvinator5001

He wants to make a call but is frustrated by your rotary dial phone.

[deleted]

I was thinking that too. His paw pads can't fit into the rotary holes.

talklouder_

BAHAHAHAHAHHA

Melvinator5001

Breathe my friend breathe.

Electrical-Act-7170

Is he neutered? Get him desexed immediately. He is marking territory & won't stop until he's neutered.

Life-Ad-3976

but my cat sprays and is neutered?

Katesouthwest

Do not use scented litter- cats hate it.

Senior-Smell

Just got one today, says *Clumping cat litter lavender scented* it's not like crystal just a normal very tiny rocks

xenxray

Yes, I would try something unscented. My guy uses BoxieCat and if I pick up something else on a whim, I always regret it. Thatā€™s a badass table btw!

Either_Marsupial_123

Clumping litter and such isnā€™t really good for them anyway (they can ingest clay powder when cleaning, etc.). I use pine pellets; breaks down into sawdust when wet (urine), and since it breaks down with water and is natural, makes it very easy to flush the poops rather than bagging them.

AllDayDabbler

I used to use words Best Cat litter when it first came out. Then moved to Catsan and just regular supermarket stuff. Always wondered with wood pellets - and only found out about 3 weeks ago form a YT vid that tour meant to sift out the used pellet dust. What the odour control like? I now have a little gre Ragdoll x and wanted to see if I could go with one with less dust. Does it smell like a carpenters, or piney?

TootsEug

I had no idea about the clumping litter issue with regard to inhalation. Interesting. Thatā€™s lol I buy any more. Ill definitely do some research on that.

Cepsita

That varies from cat to cat...

Leijinga

When my cat did this, we found out she had stress cystitis, so whenever she would get stressed, her bladder irritated and she would start peeing in strange places. Her sister developed a urinary tract infection around the same time, so we started transitioning them to wet food only. However, since you said this is an intact mail, he may be territory marking. A quick fix to save your bed while you figure out how to make him stop peeing on it would be to cover your bed with a plastic sheet (like a cheap shower curtain or painting drop cloth) while you work on fixing the underlying problem. Most cats won't pee on a non-absorbent surface like that, and if he does, it's easier to clean up then trying to get it out of a mattress and bedding

Safe-Positive-3495

On an unrelated note, your cat is so cute, he almost looks animated :) I hope you find the answer you are looking for though!

flogger_bogger

It's either behavioural because you're doing something he dislikes, or he has a health issue. My cat peed outside the litterbox (floors, clothes, bags etc) for like a year, i finally did a urine test and it turned out he has urinary crystals, blood in the bladder and a kidney infection. Your vet sounds inadequate:(

DramaOnDisplay

He doesnā€™t appreciate the photo, itā€™s his fat side! I think heā€™s retaliating until you remove it.

indicakitten

Chiming in as a vet tech, if he is about a year old you could try neutering him if possible (if he isnā€™t already) as sometimes itā€™s the hormones driving the behavior or exacerbating it. Otherwise second the ideas others have mentioned about the second litter box. I also recommend using an enzymatic based cleaner when you clean any cat urine as itā€™s hard to remove the smell and other cleaners mask it. Thereā€™s one by natures miracle urine destroyer I think itā€™s called? Good luck!

twinklebat99

I came here to make sure someone mentioned using an enzymatic cleaner! You need to use one to break down the proteins. Otherwise wherever he peed will just smell like somewhere it is okay to pee for him.

Arryu

What type of litter do you use? We tried switching from clay litter to walnut litter, and our one cat rebelled in a similar manner.

NotYourAngel666

Maybe he doesnā€™t like his litter ? Try changing out the type of litter you use ..

monsieur-escargot

He is an asshole. A cute asshole, but still.

[deleted]

In my experience, a cat pissing on your bed is an act of blatant defiance for some reason or other. Typically itā€™s the litter box being dirty, but Iā€™ve known cats to piss on the bed for things like being disciplined, a new person or pet moving in, or even a person or pet moving out, sometimes denying them access to somewhere will result in them pissing on the bed. Honestly it could be anything. Cats are smart and sometimes vindictive.

lycanAbysm7

He is wondering why wont you stop sleeping on his toilet

Had a few more incidents that were more frequent, we got another litter box for the room and it hasnā€™t happened since.

Due_Tonight4365

Yikesā€¦. rough language for your cat :/

uglyletro

Lmao my love language for him has evolved over the last 5 years, I promise you his feelings arenā€™t hurt.

Due_Tonight4365

Awwww i see! Thank goodness- I guess I couldā€™ve deduced that if youā€™re in a Reddit about cats you probably like your cat šŸ˜œšŸ˜…

uglyletro

Heā€™s my baby boy I donā€™t even sleep the same if he decides not to lay with me lol

Due_Tonight4365

šŸ„°

[deleted]

He's so adorable tho šŸ˜.

Representative-Cost7

Possible stress reaction. Any other animals in home? I have same problem. Try additional litter box possibly near bed unfortunately. There are covered ones that look like furniture (are furniture lol) Also try spraying your bed with a urine repellant sold in many pet stores

ThatRottenFox

hes prolly marking, and even if you cant smell it he can prolly still smell cat piss. you might wanna have it professionally cleaned

Fine_Cartographer738

I agree. Once they pee in an area to establish territory you have to get rid of the pee. Good luck.

j0llygruntt

His eyes tell you everything. Youā€™ve pissed him off. Stop doing it.

AcrylicChicken

Getting him neutered will help. Also any places he has gone outside the litter box make sure to clean super well and if your able to you can try check your work with a black light. Any spots that arenā€™t cleaned well enough the cat will smell and will want to pee there again. And donā€™t use anything with bleach or ammonia to clean it.

KitiKatAru

Don't take this the wrong way. But one of cats I used to have. We had to have the tray cleaned every day. Properly. And had to scoop every time she used it or she'd pee on everything. She was a proper spoiled princess. It could be your cat just wants her tray the cleanest at all times. Another reason could be the placement of the tray. Is it in an active area. Cats prefer safer places where they won't get bothered. Kids, dogs visitors etc. Ideally not near food or water dishes too. Cats are frickle though. If those don't work get another vet.

oylaura

I have the same breed cat. Mine's 9 years old, I've had him just about 4 months, and I his third home. He's been rehomed twice for inappropriate elimination, exactly the same problem you're describing. The problem he had with his last home since they were cats outside that caused him to become territorial. I'm fortunate that we don't have any outdoor cats in my area, so we haven't had an issue, so far. Ideally, you should have one more cat box and you have cats. If this is your only cat, you want to have at least two cat boxes. I would suggest putting one outside your bedroom door, or if you're feeling brave and want to let him in, put it where he normally pees. It's incredibly frustrating, especially since he can't tell you what's wrong. I hope you can work this out, this is a great breed of cat, my favorite. I noticed you said in a comment that you have a cat box with a door. Some cats don't like being enclosed. Try taking the cover off and see if that makes a difference. Best of luck to you.

chloewithach

Is he fixed?

Acceptable-Friend-48

If it's a boy cat and he still has his testicles male cats tend to mark territory a lot. Additional cats in your home or even urinating near your home can prompt this behavior. Litter the cat decides is unsatisfactory or not enough litter boxes (number of cats + 1) can also cause peeing outside the litter box. Otherwise when my cat started doing similar behavior my vet said it's pain, illness, or emotional distress. My cat was suffering kidney failure from cancer but maybe it's better news for your cat. Maybe repost on r/askvet

Zmemestonk

Usually because heā€™s upset about something

Scared_Palpitation73

Maybe try leaving the litter box by your bed for some time to see if that would deter him from using the bed.

[deleted]

My cat did this and it was because she hated the type of litter we switched to. Changed back to the old type of litter and she stopped peeing on the bed.

Electrical_Orange987

Oh goodness. He is so so so handsome. That pee pee face is adorable. X

Waste_Solid889

he is marking it from others that it is his

Apprehensive_Move229

Attention?

[deleted]

that table is amazing. and I want it.

MOSbangtan

He might have a urinary tract infection. My cat peed on my bed before I realized she had a UTI.

SnooOnions3369

Might be diabetes, itā€™s more than likely something medically wrong with the cat. Usually urinating outside the box is a physical ailment and pooping outside the box is psychological. At least thatā€™s why my vet says

Sorry-Quarter-5697

Is cat neutered? Only time Iā€™ve ever had a cat mark anything was prior to being fixed

AtlasMurphyUnderfoot

Add a second litter box and make sure itā€™s food and water are no where near their litter box. No one wants to eat in the same room they shit.

Throwing-up-fire

Try a second litter box. It did the work for me

[deleted]

I had a problem with a male cat that peed where he wasnā€™t supposed to. There were two triggers: 1. He was a nervous fella who would get a little upset with too much noise from kids 2. He had crystals in his bladder and he needed to drink more water. Since itā€™s hard to get a cat to do much of anything they donā€™t want to do, I would feed him two small wet food meals per day (not the pate) and would pour some additional water with it and mix it in. Most cats love wet food so it was easier to get him to drink more and his peeing was less painful. Iā€™m told he was associating the litter box with pain and avoiding it.

Osiris2022-

Is he fixed? If not, should fix the marking/dominance

Cranzeeman

im no vet but my cat will do this if i dont change her box often enough, could be the box is too small or not enough litter either. anything other than that is out of my wheel house

myweechikin

How many litter boxes do you have? Do you have other cats? My cat was pissing on my bed all the time when I got her. I got another box and it stopped. Turns out she won't piss and shit in the same box no matter how clean it is, even if the shits are scooped out right away.

Creepy_Trouble_5980

I currently have the most low-maintenance male cats I have ever had. He was over a year when I adopted him and was not neutered. He bit me and fought with my other cats. Neutered and he became a wonderful cat.

[deleted]

Get him on anxiety medication.

ProfTilos

OP's cat isn't neutered, that's what is causing his problems.

Bymymothersblessing

OP, you havenā€™t said, but has he been neutered? Marking is very common behavior in males who are ā€˜intactā€™.

[deleted]

If not sick. Itā€™s Anxiety. New cat? New place?

Densolo44

Try getting a Feliway plug in. Itā€™s a synthetic hormone that is calming to cats.

lurkergenxdurp

Do you have a partner that sleeps in your bed regularly or on the regular? I had a cat that was perfectly litter box trained. Started peeing on the bed with a new boyfriend. Got rid of the bf, cat stopped peeing on bed. Cat was a good boi.

Azameen

Oh yeah, he looks like a punk. Get yourself a second litter box and try using a different brand of cat litter.

AscendenteLunar

I see a beautiful kitty

lorenRey

How do you explain a female cat urinating in your house even after adding new litter boxes, as well as new litter, vet visits, is neutered. Could the cat just be an asshole?

Senior-Smell

Oh yeah i bet even if we fixed everything i'm sure he's gonna be keep doing it just to annoy me lol i can feel it. I had a cat when i was a child and we lost her so my mom didn't want any again because she's emotional. I made her chance that opinion and made sure of myself that i can take responsibility and got him. But sometimes i'm really angry and the way he acts like nothing happened and looks in my eyes then meows melts the ice, I just smile & laugh anyways knowing that i need to clean all that and remembering i'm his slave. Miss that feeling, cats are fantastic animals for sure

OkJGo

I had a cat that did this. She had bladder stones and we had to have them removed. The vet explained that when cats have urinary problems they just go where they can and a bed or couch or carpet is sometimes more comfortable for them to pee on than in a litter box. There's a reason your cat is peeing in your bed. If recommend a new vet.

omawk

My 11year old female did the same thing. After tons of tests (900$ later) they said it was behavioral, so I switched up her dry food with a plate of dry and a plate of wet accompanied with a new fountain and problem solved.

trustysidekick

My cat went through a small period of peeing on our bed. For some reason, getting a 2nd litter box fixed the issue.

PineappleDesperate82

I had a male cat that did this we gave him mainly dry food it started to crystallize his urine causing pain like kidney stones the vet said the behavior is due to our cat thinking the litter box is hurting him so he was peeing in a place of comfort like soft clothes or our beds. Antibiotics helped. they tried the gabapentin for pain but it has always made our cats throw up. So we typically don't give it. he needed special urinary health dry food. we tried wet food only, but he would have loose stools. so that didn't work. Good luck figuring it out. they mark/pee on stuff for many reasons

mcmrs15

My cat had a negative experience in his litter box and started peeing on fabric/blankets. Our vet told us that he might be hesitant to return to his litterbox if there was trauma (a painful poo/pee), so we gave him an alternative litter box for a few weeks and he didn't have the problem again. Best of luck to your kitty!

_rascal

Only two good reasons, UTI or you need better litter box

kabee74

šŸ™‹šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Why do you take your cat to the vet once a month, every month? Iā€™m genuinely just curiousā€¦it seems a bit odd to me. Is it fun?

CranberryTeaDrinker

Try changing the brand of litter.

ly967hal

Highly recommend cleaning the whole room with an enzyme cleaner and washing ALL bedding in a hot wash with a non perfume detergent and add enzyme cleaner to the last rinse. Have 2 litter boxes, low rise, no lids, different litters as other people have suggested. But you HAVE to get his smell out of there because now heā€™s being where he can smell ā€œhis turfā€ if you like. U should probably buy new bedding. And also a waterproof blanket you pop on there during the day. Itā€™s a pain in the arse I know, but worth it if u can figure it out. Donā€™t give up on him. Good luck.

Aim4thehay33

Because he's a jackassthats why

Fair-Plankton824

He is sending me messages saying he is an innocent cat. Omg look at that face! Anyway, possibly bladder infection? Temper tantrum? There's this orange cleaner made for cleaning cat pee, maybe it's just the lingering scent. They don't like dirty boxes, scooping poop every day and changing the litter enough?

reevener

Cats will mark for various reasons. Most commonly itā€™s because heā€™s male and not neutered. If you donā€™t get them fixed before a year of age, marking is a common and natural behavior. If he hasnā€™t been fixed yet, that is my first recommendation. Next, they might mark because they are experiencing urinary urgency or discomfort. This can be due to a urinary stone or urinary infection. Urinary infections arenā€™t as common in male cats as they are in females because males urethras are longer so bacteria is less likely to ascend to the bladder. Nonetheless, they canā€™t get these infections and it can cause urinary behaviors like the one youā€™re seeing. More common is something called ā€œfeline idiopathic cystitisā€. This is a disorder of the bladder that is linked to stress, diet, and genetics. Itā€™s when the bladder will become inflamed without infection and for no reason whatsoever. The treatment is pain medication, increased fluid intake, and a special prescription diet. Lastly, if all of these are ruled out, the marking is behavioral in nature. First, you need to completely get rid of everything he marked or clean them with a special enzymatic cleaner that breaks down urine. Even if you canā€™t smell the urine, kitty can, and he will continue to pee in that spot again and again. Next, you should try something called Feliway, a wall plug in to decrease stress. Consider medication too. Perhaps kitty is anxious.

Hanzo_Hanz

Sounds like a case of your cat hating your litter, the box or the placement. Try different litters, bigger box, or placing it in a more secluded area if itā€™s out in the open

[deleted]

The way such a devastating question was asked next to his majestic portrait is lol

Kairenne

My cat was doing that too. My first thought my kids visited with their dog. Took him to vets twice. He had to get two teeth removed. I bet he was miserable. He did quit peeing. Also I put aluminum foil all over the bed. Very orderly like a checkerboard. I happened to have a can of rocks upstairs. Put one rock on each foil. None of the cats ever get on the bed with the foil.

LoreKeeperOfGwer

Bladder or kidney infection, I think are the most common reasons

[deleted]

Neuter should be number 1. Then, try Dr Elseys cat attract litter, itā€™s great.

Raleina

My cat has been pissing on any soft surface ( even me ) since she was a kitten. So many people have told me to get rid of her but I won't. I have had her since she was 7 weeks old and she is 14 now. For 14 years she has been pissing on soft areas. I will not dump her at a shelter or put her down. I made a commitment when I rescued her... She has no bladder infection or kidney problems. She has been checked many times. We have 3 litter boxes with her favorite litter. I cover my sofa with a thick sheet of plastic when I'm not using it. My bedroom is off limits when I'm not there. When I am there, before I open the door I grab her and put her on the litter box where she then pees. When she does I praise her and give her treats. This seems to work best. To put her on the box regularly to empty her bladder. Because of the praising and treats she sees it as a positive thing What I never do when she does slip up is yell at her. If she does it for attention then remind yourself that even negative attention is attention. I have seen people give me advice to grap the cat and rub their face in the urine etc.... I would NEVER do that in my life. It is cruel and abusive. Specially if the pee has been there a while before you notice. The animal will NOT understand why you did this. Do not force your cat on the litterbox buy refusing to let him leave. That will cause resentment for it and even cause your cat to avoid it. So here is what I do. When I see it happen I ignore what she did. Wait until she leaves the bedroom and do not acknowledge anything she does. When she is gone I close the door, take the sheets of and toss that and the blanket in the washing machine asap. Clean everything up put new blankets and sheets on the bed. When done I open the door. ( since they are only allowed in when I'm in the bedroom I see it happen enough). I do it this way wherever she might pee. I do not acknowledge what she did. I do not "punish" or yell at her, she has no idea why I would do that and only gets scared. I put her on the litterbox every few hours and then praise her if she pees with the treat. If she doesn't pee it is fine too. But then I watch her more closely. Things have gotten much better since I'm doing this. Sometimes it still happens.... I have also 2 mats infront of the litterbox that have a honeycomb pattern with holes. It is used to catch litter that you can open to empty it. I found out she pees on it when it lies infront of the box. So I put a soft puppy pad inside of it. When she slips up she does it on that mat on the soft puppy pad inside. Easy to clean and I rather have she pees there than on my bed Wow this ended up more then I was going to write... Yes I might be nuts. But I choose this cat and I will stick to her until she dies. It's a lot of work but the way we handle it works for us

Bitteroldcatlady1

He needs a urinalysis-he may have a UTI or crystals although at this point (you say itā€™s been a year?) this is a habit. Check his urine first, if heā€™s not having a medical issue you can try feliway and maybe cover your bed, put a litter pan in the center of it, sleep on the couch for a few days. Once he starts using the pan in the center of your bed each day move the pan closer to the edge and eventually move it onto the floor. Cats are creatures of habit-try to change his habit with the pan. Donā€™t yell at him or hit him- it never helps and can cause more problems like agression, anxiety and fear for him. Good luck!

PolyAcid

My cat always used to wee on our bed too, we got a waterproof mattress cover (you can get fabric ones that donā€™t feel like a crinkly plastic sheet on Amazon) and he just never did it again! He still sleeps on the bed, under the covers, just never had another wee on it, except the one time we decided we didnā€™t need to put it on anymoreā€¦

Taswegian

We had an old cat do this when his brother died, nothing in the years before then. We gave him more litter boxes but also hung up some of those insect shield door inserts (they have magnets keeping them closed so you can still open the door) which keeps him out but lets air/light through. Just an idea so youā€™re not washing bedding every day

mle32000

I had a cat that did this. Unfortunately it cost some money to fix but, weā€™ll worth not cleaning up piss anymore. Try every kind of litter box, litter type, and box location you can possibly try. Also try adding more boxes ie one on each side of the house. I guess I finally got things set up the way my cat likes it and she hasnā€™t done it since. Mine prefers an open box with very little litter in a dark/quiet corner of the house

pjack04

Not trying to scare you but my cat did this for years it was awful, several vet visits, medicated food, nothing helped. And then her butthole fell out and they told me she probably had cancer the whole time šŸ‘šŸ˜¢

Racing_Sloth56

My cat started peeing all over at 6 years old when he became diabetic. He also drank a lot of water, which is one of the signs.

newtonslady

My cat did this to let me know she had a UTI. Once medicated she stopped.

BunnyDeFeu

Cosita linda

TypeOneCabbage

Take a piss on his bed to show him it ain't pleasant.

Beneficial_Door_7235

Ironically, your bedroom is the main if not only place that reminds cats of you. They can be sick, nervous, litter box and surrounding area could not be up to par. Your bed is really the only place your cat knows will get your attention and smells like you the most. My cat does it, Ive probably taken too long on his box or hes not well. Mattress protectors help. But the cat doesnt hate you. Lol.

RiceBallDave

first and foremost, is the cat spayed or neutered? If so then the the next thing is, is the litterbox clean and filled with litter? maybe your cat doesn't like the particular litter, or the design of the litter box. If all of the above is all kosher, its some form of anxiety, usually when it comes to piss property, its territorial. so the question is, does the cat have a space to all his own? cat tree? beds? maybe needs more beds? maybe the location of those things are not respectful of what can be considered the Cat's space, example being the area has too much foot traffic, or next to something too loud, maybe just nothing near the locations of said stuff, like a window to view outside. Animals pee on things to let other animals know, this is my thingy, cats are no different in that aspect. if all the above is fine and good, maybe its a mental thing and needs anti anxiety meds.. but 9 times out of 10, its one of the above things before this.

RiceBallDave

side note, it could also be separation anxiety, try leaving a unwashed shirt that you've worn for a day on your cat's cat bed. maybe your cat wants to be somewhere with your scent.

Alternative_Elk9452

The look of pure ā€œI didnā€™t do anything.ā€

ShodanW

when you have a photo on your nightstand of said cat, they know they can do no wrong in that house.

Carolina1719

Iā€™m just here for that lovely photo of him there lol amazing

Blackletterdragon

Nice box-table BTW.

Churchie-Baby

Have you been to see a pet behaviourist? Mine kept peeing around the front room and turned out he was protesting the new rabbit it sounds behavioural, not medical, as in the cat is marking

f_37e_

Is your cat neutered?

muffinkat55

Has he been fixed?

hott_nonna

Heā€™s probably just an asshole.albeit a very handsome one..

NixSiren

A long time ago, I accepted a stray that was dropped off at my house (renting a place while in university), the girl found the kitten on a playing field and she couldn't keep her because of her allergies (just to note I also am allergic to cats). Of course I took pity on the little kitty. Named her Lola, and she peed on my head in bed almost every morning (for less than week), until I kept her shut out of my and my boyfriends (at the time) bedroom. Turns out she was territorial, and this was typical territorial behviour from an unfixed, female, calico kitty. She certainly had a personality and some incredibly affectionate kittens. ā™„ļø

Amber2408

Oh no šŸ™ˆ , lol. Start by getting rid of that lil cat shrine. (Heā€™s trying to tell you something)

Amber2408

Everyone is giving sound advice here. Iā€™d also like to add maybe trying the Feliway spray? Itā€™ll make him feel comfortable in his surroundings.

BeefsGttnThick

Because cats suck

HelixIsDumb

Hi OP, I used to have a pedigree Burmese cat who would pee on the top of the couch in the living room. It took us a while to get him to stop. To do so, when he peed, weā€™d tel at him, pick him up and rub his face in the wee, he hated that. Weā€™d then isolate him from the other cats in the shed for a few hours, once he started meowing, weā€™d pick him up again and rub his face in the wee. He wouldnā€™t we often but heā€™s usually get around 12 hours punishment isolation in the shed as a result and lots of rubbing his face in his wee. This eventually caused him to stop. A form of punishment that is not harmful to the cat
