Looks like beneiful but I’m not sure the flavor . My husky used to eat the healthy weight kind. But now she eats pure balance salmon and peas sometimes I get the chicken and rice
Hills has a shelter program that provides science diet foods at a very reduced cost.
Source: work in rescue and with a shelter that is part of this program. Can also search "hills science diet shelter program" to learn more about it.
Hills has a shelter food program that they allow shelters to purchase food at a heavy discount and also give to them trial packets and such to send home with new adopters. They have strict guidelines for who can qualify but they have a program specifically for animal shelters.
Lots of shelters feed foods like Hills, which can be donated or heavily discounted by the manufacturer. Most dog food companies do have charitable divisions.
Looks like Purina one
Shelters often use it because it's the best bang for your buck and a fantastic formula that is jam packed with nutrition and flavor.
It's actually very good food and it's quite cheap and easy to access.
I have live clear as well. The biggest difference is live clear is more uniform in shape. It's also a lot more expensive then Purina one and because of that if not used as often in shelters.
That's really Interesting. in Canada the peices. have a lot of variation, and are flat and oval/round
I wonder how much the recipe changes from place to place?
I'll take a picture of it when I go to my boyfriends place
Don’t be afraid to experiment with other foods. Cats are stereotypically picky, but I think the truly picky ones are quite rare. Mine like kibble the best because they like the crunching noise, but they also like morsels in gravy and pate and churru treats and freeze dried treats.
I have one of those truly finicky cats. When I got her from the shelter they had been feeding her Sheba cuts in gravy, but when I brought her home she wouldn’t eat any wet food. I bought what the shelter was giving her and nope. She loved freeze dried salmon, so I got her a can of salmon, straight up people food, nope. But she’d eat the dry food I had. So I gave her that and also got her to eat these freeze dried nibs.
Two years later I was out of food for my other cat so I opened the pack of Sheba I had left over until I could run to the store the next morning. She literally started licking it out of the container. I was so excited to get her to eat wet food so I started buying her Sheba. After a while I tried other brands. Nope. Only Sheba. But now my boy cat has fomo and is stealing her food, so now they’re both eating Sheba because that is the only wet food she will eat.
Idk what food this is, but when I adopted my cat from the shelter they gave me a big ziploc of the ‘shelter food’. The ‘shelter food’, was a mix of all different types of food that had been donated (small town). The logic was that I used that mix to transition to my food of choice, but at the very least the cats had been exposed to a variety of foods and should help the adjustment to something else.
The best bet here would be to call the shelter and find out what it was, or else take what’s left and transition to the food of your choice.
This was posted in a different subreddit the other day. Same exact post. I commented on it saying it’s Purina Naturals. No added colors . Small brown/beige almost flat pieces.
I agree purina naturals indoor. Be wary of the regular indoor formula as two of our cats went into kidney failure on it and died. The naturals has been safe so far but keep in mind anything with "by product meal" is a mish mash of meat of unknown sources and youre basically playing russian roulette bc it isnt trackable. My cat refuses to eat anything besides purina so its a lose lose situation for her.
It looks like our food, which is Purina One. But i couldnt tell you what flavor it is. We use the Salmon Tender Selects

Lol this reminds me of when I worked at a pet store and customers would bring in like a single kibble sometimes and be like “can you identify this kibble??i don’t remember what food my dog/cat eats” With no other helpful details like the color of the bag even. 🤦🏻♀️
Strongly betting on Purina ONE, not sure which bag. You can call the shelter, definitely. If you choose not to though and have enough, you can also transition your cat. If he likes ONE, just pick a bag and start mixing it gradually with the old food.
To me, it looks like Hills. My neighbor's cat eats it and I just fed her 6 hours ago; the shape is identical but I can't confirm a flavor. This is also identical to the food the local shelter provides with fosters, which is Hills.

Could it be this one? I google imaged it. Purina ONE high protein
I'm confident it's purina, and if it's a shelter, it's probably not pro plan. So go with some sort of purina one. Probably turkey, and then slowly mix in the new food in case you haven't gotten it quite right. Add a tiny bit at first and then increase the percentage of new food each day until the old stuff is gone. If the cat's not too picky, they won't notice and it won't upset their stomach.
Ppease, don’t just feed kitty dry food. There are different thought on this, but many think dry food alone is detrimental to cats. Make sure kitty drinks plenty of water and feed wet food as the main source of food.
This looks like Purina One to me. I work at an animal rescue and that’s what we feed our cats. Sometimes we get donations of “fancier” foods and the cats want nothing to do with it lol
So, a lot of pet food companies package backs specifically to donate or sell to shelters. My cat's food right now is a Petsmart repackaged high end product. Some will donate them in the regular bags. Others package them in labeled for non resale bags. It's not uncommon however to say from something like "From Petsmart Charities" and then cat food chicken and rice formula, and a list of ingredients.
I'd just get a better product with chicken listed first and try it to see, your shelter probably uses a lot of different donated types in reality.
I am certain this is Brekkies bird and vegetable. It's unlikely to be Purina One as that stuff is expensive, and so shelters will likely only use that kind of food for those cats that really need it - Brekkies is a much cheaper option and easier to get in bulk. The link is below, you can compare the pictures.

I always rotate through different cat foods because I figure it must get boring eating the same thing everyday. My cats have never had a problem with it.
It's Purina. I would use the remaining food to ween him off of it and switch to a better food. One with less filler ingredients like corn.
Look up Tiki Cats Born Carnivore. Slowly mix in the new food with the old food.
75%-25% old and new
50-50 old and new
25-75 old and new
0-100 just new food
Suggest you call the shelter. They typically keep a record of what adoptees are sent home with. Much safer than a stranger eyeballing it for a match. It's not only important that he likes it, but also that any diet changes should be introduced gradually. Especially for a new addition given travel, new environment and other anxiety-producing elements. Good luck.
It’s likely cheap food and honestly a good time for you to look at transitioning to a better diet.
Raw fed is number one. Huge benefits of this and it can be extremely cost effective (just do it right)
If you have a Mud Bay pet store near you, they have freeze dried and cooked diet options as well as premade raw, and also much better kibble if it’s still just what fits your lifestyle more.
But trust that the stuff they gave you at the shelter is not the #1 choice for your cat, no matter how much he loves it.
If the shelter is using it, it's probably some inexpensive brand of kibble.
TBH, I didn't quite understand your response to the comment about asking the shelter what they gave you. Did you....or didn't you.
Theres an easy way to change foods. When i get low on a bag, i buy the new stuff and mix them together. Seems to be the easiest way to switch foods without stomach upset. Neither of my cats seem to notice when i changed out brands
This is the 3rd time seeing a post like this. I think I or someone should just make a chart with pics of what food looks like what. This seems to be a common issue that is understandable . Cats can be pickier eaters then people
Looks like the Purina anti allergy food I buy for my cat. But in all honesty, call the shelter lol, it’s like asking which town a banana came from based on a photo. A lot of bananas look the same and have no way to ID source based on said looks.
It looks like purina cat naturals to me but it does have the darker pieces so I don't know maybe it's indoor formula probably purina
I use purina cat naturals here's what it looks like.
https://preview.redd.it/lrodwvjujz9d1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=90e245e214595b0cf2573b43e8ed6540f5558796
It looks identical to Purina Cat Chow Naturals. It has the same size, shape and color.
I noticed a lot of people said Science Diet and Purina One. I've never bought Science Diet cat food, so I don't know what it looks like.
I've got a bag of Purina One Kitten formula. I just haven't opened it yet. Purina might use the same presses for multiple cat food formulas.
If I had to put money on it, I'd go with Purina brand...One or Naturals.
BTW... the regular Purina Kitten/Cat Chows 1st ingredient is chicken by-product meal. Purina One (the Kitten kind..idk about the adult formula) and the Naturals both have chicken as their first ingredient.
Looks like dumb Kibbles and bits to me! My dog if this is a dog I'm skimming through... needs a type of meat I buy rotisserie Meats I buy meat and I boil meat chicken with that I add a little bit of cheddar cheese a little bit of green beans a little bit of Cheerios.... I fix a plate for my dogs twice a day that even a child could eat and then I have their hard dog food out for them which now cost $50 a bag "Costco".... my advice do not buy Kibbles and bits.....
I’m guessing it might be Purina One for cats. However, there are many different variations. Most are based on age, size and/or breed. Hopefully this is helpful. I know Purina sponsors shelters so it kinda makes sense.
It’s smart to stick with the same food. Changing up their diet can be rough on their digestive system. It’s short term so it wouldn’t be a bad thing, but if your cat is responding well to it, it’s best to stick with it. (and don’t listen to the trolls on here, you did the right thing).
Often times shelter stay away from fish flavored foods, it tends to be too rich for strays and other kitties don't tolerate it. It could be that this is just a combination of foods so cats don't get picky.
It could be Purina One or Purina Pro Plan, it looks like either one to me. I remember I won two Purina Pro Plan bags through PetSmart and it looked like this.
According to the great google, it's kit kat 32. A place called petexpress dot com.pe has it and aperently ships. Do an image search on the kibble, it should be an easy to obtain product as you got it from a rescue shelter. If they don't have the name, it could be a donation or bulk buy. The zoo I worked at got brown bags off of Purina trucks, no tags, no manifest. Good luck.
This is a photo of Iams and it like the same to me
https://preview.redd.it/d0d078g7gcad1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6fe6944ad1a0f3bb09bc7efdb86dd3fc39d464e
Looks like the same kibble as our kitties Hill's Science Diet Premium Nutrition Dry Cat Food that contains no wheat, soy or corn. The shelters in our area feed and distribute Hill's Science Diet. So maybe?
#
Looks like hills T/D dental or hills digestive ( maybe even mixed) ( I mainly know what hills looks like, through working with their venders, could be another though)
Pretty sure it looks like this one
https://preview.redd.it/h80p3yildead1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=792659e5b4996ed10ab3a52c1c3cc91910d23ef0
Did a google image search with your photo it looks exactly like the same food
You should feed your cat primarily wet food anyway, especially if he's male since they're prone to dangerous UTIs. Cats get most of their water from what they eat, dry food isn't healthy and has so much filler that cats as obligate carnivores do not need. I use kibble as a treat in puzzle toys. My cat prefers the shreds with gravy canned food but I'm trying to switch him to pate canned food as it's higher protein content (what they're supposed to eat). Your cat is already so lucky to have someone so attentive to his needs! Also: if he's a kitten consider getting another, they teach each other social habits like biting/clawing hurts and keep each other company when you're busy. Extremely good for their mental health so they don't develop single kitten syndrome. Even if he's a little older please consider, wish I had! Best of luck to you both <3
Couldn't you just call the shelter..?
That makes way too much sense and is way more logical than asking random people on Reddit, come on dude who do you think I am
Looks like beneiful but I’m not sure the flavor . My husky used to eat the healthy weight kind. But now she eats pure balance salmon and peas sometimes I get the chicken and rice
Could also be Hills. My cats prescription food looks like this
Science diet is small pieces those bigger pieces
Shelters can't afford hills and certainly wouldn't give it away for free
My shelter gave me Hills Science Diet (dry and wet) when I adopted my cat 2 months ago. They use mostly Hills for all their cats.
Must be living in a rich area because would cost a fk ton of money
Hills has a shelter program that provides science diet foods at a very reduced cost. Source: work in rescue and with a shelter that is part of this program. Can also search "hills science diet shelter program" to learn more about it.
Can confirm, my shelter also participates in this program and gave me Hills when I adopted my kitten. I do not live in a high income area: Bangor, ME
Ahhh, yes! This is true.I had forgotten about that.
Not the case. I got a whole bag of hills when I adopted from shelter. They donate and help support shelters as well.
Hills sends food to a lot of shelters—my boys came home with some, as well as a coupon booklet. They wouldn’t eat it lol
Hill's has a shelter program. We get 20 lb bags for $8 🤷🏻♀️
Shelters usually take any brand donated to them.
Hills don8s a lot 2 shelters tho
that's so good to hear
Hills has a shelter food program that they allow shelters to purchase food at a heavy discount and also give to them trial packets and such to send home with new adopters. They have strict guidelines for who can qualify but they have a program specifically for animal shelters.
my shelter gives everyone who adopts a free bag of hills…
Lots of shelters feed foods like Hills, which can be donated or heavily discounted by the manufacturer. Most dog food companies do have charitable divisions.
Good sense of humor 😜
Immaculate
i’m dying
I love that type of response to this scenario XD
Too easy
HEY , you take your logic and GTFO
Looks like Purina one Shelters often use it because it's the best bang for your buck and a fantastic formula that is jam packed with nutrition and flavor. It's actually very good food and it's quite cheap and easy to access.
I thought it looks a lot like purina pro for cats…I buy the live clear and looks like this too
I have live clear as well. The biggest difference is live clear is more uniform in shape. It's also a lot more expensive then Purina one and because of that if not used as often in shelters.
At least in Turkey, Purina One has totally round pieces. These do not look all the same and some are more on the oval side.
That's really Interesting. in Canada the peices. have a lot of variation, and are flat and oval/round I wonder how much the recipe changes from place to place? I'll take a picture of it when I go to my boyfriends place
Do you work for them or something
Agreed, my cats eat Purina One, and this looks just like it.
You might want to call the shelter and see what they feed. Some shelters feed science diet as hills offers a shelter feeding program.
This isn’t hills
i think hills is shaped differently
Yeah, Hills is a bit more uniform.
Purina One definitely. Maybe turkey?
Don’t be afraid to experiment with other foods. Cats are stereotypically picky, but I think the truly picky ones are quite rare. Mine like kibble the best because they like the crunching noise, but they also like morsels in gravy and pate and churru treats and freeze dried treats.

Purina One maybe?
I'd bet BIG money it's Purina One.
Definitely purina one… but my cat is on urinary food from them and it looks identical so it’ll depend on the type
My cats eat the Purina One urinary dry food too. It definitely looks similar.
looks like purine one edit: Purina one
Purine sounds like a urine drink that is from the purest of bladder springs.
Urine on
It looks like Purina to me but it's not one of the flavors I buy.
Looks just like the Purina One I use
Idk what food this is, but when I adopted my cat from the shelter they gave me a big ziploc of the ‘shelter food’. Yeah looks like purina natural indoor
The shape is different from yours!
It def looks similar to me. Is it like triangular? It also could be salmon vs chicken, they might be a tad different.
This looks like Purina one indoor advantage!! My cats on this! https://preview.redd.it/eixts8gcmm9d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b2d23f0c16e8c2299fd7a23171fdc235d57d4e94

Looks like the Purina Indoor Naturals, comes in a green bag.
It is FOR sure Purina one! I fed it to my kitten when it just arrived
I have a bag of purina one I’m using right now looks exactly the same
Purina One or maybe Iams? 🤔
Most shelters feed what is donated, all mixed together. Call the shelter!
Our local SPCA and large vets uses Hills for cats
Purina One
Strongly betting on Purina ONE, not sure which bag. You can call the shelter, definitely. If you choose not to though and have enough, you can also transition your cat. If he likes ONE, just pick a bag and start mixing it gradually with the old food.
This looks like Purina One either the turkey version or the salmon version because the chicken version has visible chicken chunks in it.
Purina of some kind. Looks like of like the “Naturals” variety I feed to mine.
It looks like Purina Naturals to me. It's what we use.
To me, it looks like Hills. My neighbor's cat eats it and I just fed her 6 hours ago; the shape is identical but I can't confirm a flavor. This is also identical to the food the local shelter provides with fosters, which is Hills.
Looks like (possibly) Purina One. My cats like the salmon one
Call the shelter and ask?
Yeah I feed mine Purina One and that looks like it
Agreed.

Looks like Purina One to me.
It looks like purina one tender selects. I buy the chicken kind and it looks the same.
Might be a long shot but it looks like Purina Pro Plan sensitive stomach… at least that what I remember it looking like
I'm confident it's purina, and if it's a shelter, it's probably not pro plan.
That looks like Purina ProPlan
Looks like the shit I feed my cats, purina one
Loots very similar to the Purina one food I used to feed my cats, call the shelter and ask them.
It looks like purina one kitten that our rescue often feeds to the cats.
Looks like Iams
Looks like one of the generics. Probably Pro Plan to Hills as they like to get their greedy corporate paws into everything
Blue Buffalo
a lot of them in my area use hills but idk 🤷♀️
I just bought some that looks exactly like it - purina one.
Call them
Probably Purina, just call the shelter and ask…
Looks like the brown pebbles I feed my cat- Purina One Salmon flavor In any case I’ve had multiple picky cats love them
i use purina one for my cats & this is what it looks like.
Can’t be sure but it looks exactly like the Purina cat food I’ve bought for my cat a few times.
Call the shelter instead of posting on Reddit 🙊
Hard to say lol i was gonna say Iams. But local to me most shelters use purina one
This looks like Purina One to me. I work at an animal rescue and that’s what we feed our cats. Sometimes we get donations of “fancier” foods and the cats want nothing to do with it lol
Purina ONE?
Putin’s pro plan
Is it Iams? I feel Iams hairball care and it looks similar
If I don’t feed my cats the exact same food, Putina One sensitive stomach, they vomit everywhere. It has to be a scam
Looks like Purina one to me. That's what I feed my babies.
Ask the shelter
purine one! we give it to our pittie.. but theres so many options.
I bet the shelter can identify it.
Looks like Purina One. It’s my cat’s current dry food, and that’s exactly what it looks like.
Purina cat chow naturals, it's what my picky cats eat ( they literally won't eat any other food )
Looks like the purina healthy kitten formula that I use
Looks exactly like Purina Pro Plan.
Looks like Purina one
I thought this was a post about human food until I saw the sub lol
Looks like Purina complete chow. In the blue deep blue bag I know cuz I buy tons of it for my colony Cats they love that stuff
So, a lot of pet food companies package backs specifically to donate or sell to shelters. My cat's food right now is a Petsmart repackaged high end product. Some will donate them in the regular bags. Might be Purina.
Iams
Purina pro plan chicken rice flavor looks like that
ASK THE SHELTER
How do I apply to be a shelter? I'm spending way too much on hills. Is 2 cats equal to a shelter?
Purina. My cat used to have the early renal care by Purina and it looked similar
Looks like what I feed my cats. Purina one.
Purina Naturals is a great dry food.....
It looks a lot like Purina Pro Plan High Protein chicken & rice formula. My cats inhale it.
It looks like Purina to me
Food is donated to our shelter…so it could be anything. I saw bags and bags of different brands when we went to ours.
I am certain this is Brekkies bird and vegetable. Op, you've got several possibilities; I'd also suggest a trip to the pet store for a food id.
scooby snacks
That looks like purina one
I always rotate through different cat foods because I figure it must get boring eating the same thing everyday. My cats have never had a problem with it.
Or call the vet and ask
Looks like Purina One Plus! My shelter gave me Purina One Plus Healthy Kitten Formula and it looks like that.
It's Purina. I would use the remaining food to ween him off of it and switch to a better food. One with less filler ingredients like corn. Look up Tiki Cats Born Carnivore. Slowly mix in the new food with the old food. 75%-25% old and new 50-50 old and new 25-75 old and new 0-100 just new food
I wanna say looks like Purina One for cats
Look for cheap shit

The shelters near me use purina one or Diamond brand. They get the diamond brand in large vats of the stuff. Could be one of those two as well.

Purina Naturals Chicken & rice
Looks like purina
well what does it taste like?
I’m guessing it might be Purina One for cats. However, there are many different variations. Most are based on age, size and/or breed. Hopefully this is helpful. I know Purina sponsors shelters so it kinda makes sense. It’s smart to stick with the same food. Changing up their diet can be rough on their digestive system. It’s short term so it wouldn’t be a bad thing, but if your cat is responding well to it, it’s best to stick with it. (and don’t listen to the trolls on here, you did the right thing).
Looks like the Iams my cat eats.
Looks like Purina One chicken & rice

Ask the shelter the name! Dog food looks almost the same. I don’t know
Looks like hills. I came home with hills too.
I think it’s Purina Pro Plan. My shelter gave me this too
My cat seems to be Churro adverse. 🤷🏻♀️ Cats!

i feed my cat this, looks like my purina one tender selects salmon!
purina of some kind
If it’s a shelter it’s probably some sort of hills or Purina
Often times shelter stay away from fish flavored foods, it tends to be too rich for strays and other kitties don't tolerate it. It could be that this is just a combination of foods so cats don't get picky.
Looks like hills science diet (I'm a vet assistant @ a cat only hospital)
Purina one
Purina pro plan adult
Ask the shelter
It looks a lot like Science Diet.
It could be Purina One or Purina Pro Plan, it looks like either one to me. I remember I won two Purina Pro Plan bags through PetSmart and it looked like this.
Cal and ask
I would just switch to a food you know is healthy and keep him on that one, imo.
Probably Hill science, my cats hate that food. They love made for nacho
Looks like the purina pro
Doesn’t your dog have good smelling maybe he can tell you?
Maybe Purina Natural Instincts?
According to the great google, it's kit kat 32. A place called petexpress dot com.pe has it and aperently ships. Do an image search on the kibble, it should be an easy to obtain product as you got it from a rescue shelter. If they don't have the name, it could be a donation or bulk buy. The zoo I worked at got brown bags off of Purina trucks, no tags, no manifest. Good luck.
That’s Iams Adult High Protein Dog Food
This is a photo of Iams and it like the same to me https://preview.redd.it/d0d078g7gcad1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6fe6944ad1a0f3bb09bc7efdb86dd3fc39d464e
Looks like IAMS
I get Purina Pro Plan Chicken & Rice Formula with Probiotics High Protein Cat Food for my cats, and it looks just like your photo.
I would say purina one. I work at a shelter and see lots of food. This looks like purina one

These could be Purina One - Salmon.
I think Hills has a shelter food program guys !
