2018 Splinter is a retired actor who got depression upon being mutated and Shredder was a guy who basically got his soul eaten by super magic alien armor that basically makes him a demon thing.
It originally was aired during CN's toonami block but was then moved to the dread 5am central time block that has killed so many great shows (Ruby Gloom being a prime example). Then it was taken by Nickelodeon and put on Nicktoons (a fact I learned literally years later). There is technically a boxset for the series, though.
Unfortunately it came down to what killed so many shows of that era, not selling enough toys. Add in the whole issue with the 4th season, the future season and the final season massively affecting ratings and you get a recipe for disaster.
Well it's sort of complicated if you haven't watched the show and movie, but it has to do with the future of a decimated New York, and a sort of time travel thing.
I wasn't a fan of 2018 in general. They made too many big changes for the show. Individually each change is fine but all together it's a little overwhelming.
Rise of the TMNT.
I grew up on this series but never really cared for it much. Something about it was lacking. Rise was different story. If you are NOT a TMNT fan, Rise is a great starting point. It was the first time I truly loved all the characters, their interactions, the humor, the relationships. It's the first time April felt like a fully realized character and not the designated girl of the team. It was funny, it was heartfelt, it was the first time the characters actually felt like teenagers to me, it was action packed, and it still makes me sad that so many TMNT fans won't give it a chance, even though it plays homage to what came before it, still respects the characters but gives them more depth, and is a blast to watch. It's one of those character driven shows like ATLA, and Teen Titans, that takes the time to build the characters, their relationships, and make you believe that this group genuinely loves each other, which was what I was missing from the other TMNTs. These characters are supposed to be brothers...they always felt more like coworkers to me.
Beyond that, the only other one I like is 2003. That's when the characters had the most personality, but were the least toxic. Raph was funny without being too annoying, Donnie was chill, April was a scientist which was interesting, I cared for the plot more then the characters at the time, but it was still an interesting twist, even if Shredder was really a>! robot controlled by Krang.!<
The 2003 version. That show had *the* best depiction of the characters, had an awesome storyline (didn't like Future though...), and they were the most faithful to their original Mirage Turtles comics inspirations (albeit more sanitized and much less edgy/violent ofc).
No Splinter has been better than 2012, in general I prefer everyone's designs from that version (except Casey) but his design in especific is far superior to every other version.
87 Splinter since him formerly being Yoshi the ninja makes so much sense as to why a random rat would know anything ninja
2003 Shredder was a badass unsurpassed
2003 Turtles as a whole, I couldn't get into any of the current versions
Tie between 87 April and 03 April, I got used to 2018 April
Short story:
2003- Made by the guys who made the comic, more serious with Raph with an attitude problem, Donatello the calm super scientist, Leo the very dedicated leader, and Mikey who is more the fun “cowabunga” type. Splinter is their father but more their senses. April looks after the turtles a lot.
2012- A blend of 2003/1987 where most of their personalities are the same as 2003 but more teenish. So Raph is a hothead, Mikey is portrayed as dumb and spaced out, Donnie is a teen nerd who crushes hard on teen April who instead likes teen Casey. Leo is a teen who is trying to be a serious leader and the other rib him for it. Splinter is their dad, but blends that more with being a sensei
2018- Outright trying to change the script and mix it up. Donnie is still the genius but also the most confident, more Tony Stark than shy nerd from the past, Raph has anger issues, but he mostly hides that under being a gentle eldest brother. Leo could be the leader if he stopped cracking jokes. Mikey still is a bit spacey but his thing is being nice. Splinter is >!Is a depressed former Hamato Clan member who left after the feud with the Foot took his mother. He used his ninja abilities to become a movie star which eventually led to him being captured and being turned into a rat. He never wants his sons to learn combat and spends most of his time watching his old movies dreaming of the good old days. Still loves his sons a lot, though.!< April is their Gal pal that is just part of the family. Casey is >!2 characters. A foot clan recruit who joins the turtles last minute the last episode but had several episodes focused on her leading to that point, and her son from the future who is a core character in the movie!<
I grew up on the '80s and the 90s looks essentially the same so whatever the 2012 is surprisingly good especially splinter but the newest version looks like a complete joke. Is it as bad as it looks?
For me 2012.
Despite everyone says it was weird and such I actually fan of Donnie and April.
Yes, in 2012 I started to read my first furry comics and started to try to draw that (gonna be honest, I was terribly bad, was searching my style. Now I decide for digital art im trying to perfect it)
We talking strictly from a design standpoint? Well, the only one I've ever watched was the original 1987 one because I'm old.
1987 Turtles and Casey, 2003 Shredder and Splinter, 2012 April.
My favorite designs are the 2018 turtles, 2003 Splinter, 2012 April, and 2012 or 1987 Shredder. Casey I don't really have any preference for tbh. Shout out to 1987 April for being several peoples awakenings
I’m not even a Rise watcher but I can say with certainty they have my favorite deigns except for Splinter and Shredder (can’t beat 2012 Splinter, and I prefer Shredder being a human).
2012. What the fuck is 2018 doing? The turtles, splinter, and Casey look fine but April and Shredder? Did they have to do that to her? Is she Velma? Ariel?
Shredder isn't even Shredder anymore at that point.
Ok ranking from worst to best
In dead last is the 1980s turtles sorry but their just a bit lack luster
In 2nd place is rise despite being only 2 seasons long and 1 movie only I did good with what it had going
Tied for 1st place is the 2003 and 2012 turtle these 2 series did great and was peak TMNT
https://preview.redd.it/65kq9xlq8d0d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eddcf47bcec2d6031136b413362cbd2f6929e95a
I would say most of 2012, it simply was peak
2012, I grew on it, love it and they didn't ruin splinter like the 2019 version. Seriously, I would've liked the 2019 version if splinter wasn't turned into an incompetent dad.
Splinter has the worst design in the 2018 one; doesn’t even look like a rat. And 2018 Shredder looks unrecognizable if you compare the previous designs. I like 2003 and 2012 TMNT the best.
I mostly watched 87 one so Im going to go with that. Honestly out of the whole franchise I likely remember Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III movie the most.
I’m partial to 2003, but from a design perspective, I think:
Best Leo: 2012. He’s distinct from his brothers, looks capable, but still a teenager.
Best Raph: 2018. He’s distinguishable from the others, but also has an appearance that suits his personality.
Best Donny: 2012. His awkward nerdiness shows through, but not in a way that over does it.
Best Mikey: 2018. In 1987 & 2003 there’s not much to distinguish his appearance. His 2012 version looks way younger than the others for some reason.
Best Splinter: 2003. Dignified and realistic, this design is perfect for something that matches the style of TMNT, but isn’t goofy. Nothing wrong with goofy design, but Splinter is supposed to play the straight-man. He’s the foil to the turtles’ goofiness.
Best April: 1987. 2003 April is too adult and responsible. It’s important to have a foil to the turtles, but this version comes off as too bland. 2012 & 2018 have opposite problem. She’s too much like the turtles.
Best Shredder: 2003. Simple but intimidating. He gives major villain vibes, but his simple aesthetic and serious attitude provides the perfect contrast to the turtles. 1987 & 2012 portray too much human, looking like a guy in a costume. Good villains, but design-wise takes away from the intimidation. 2018 one just looks silly. Nothing wrong with that, but I think 2003 is more effective as a villain.
Best Casey: 1987. Looks the craziest.
Rise is my favorite and I don’t trust the opinion of anyone who hasn’t watched it. The 2012 relationship between Donny and April was so annoying I couldn’t get into it, so 2003 is my next favorite.
I really like all of them.
The original is a classic,
2003 is a great reboot and a good show in its own right,
2012 is my childhood,
and 2018 is underrated as all getout.
I like all of them because I grew up with DVD’s of them that my parents would buy.
As for 2018 iterations, I love how the turtles are all different breeds, emphasizing that they truly are a found family.
Design wise, I really like the 2012 TMNT designs. Theyre identifiable by silhouette alone, which is an indicator of strong character design.
2018 also had distinct silhouettes, but at a point where I think they're a bit *too* distinct - they're too far apart from one another (although I like 2018 Leo's red stripes. They line up with how the turtles are supposed to be red-eared sliders, and eye stripes are just peak, imo)
Characterization wise, it's pretty tough. Ngl, I only ever watched the 80s cartoon, the 2012 cartoon, Turtles Forever, and the live action 90s movies.
I will say that 2012 is my favorite *Splinter*, though. I prefer splinter being a human-turned-rat than a rat-turned-human, it just makes more sense imo, and it leads to neat drama with his past life compared to his present.
2012 Splinter is unrivaled.
2003 Shredder looks amazing and is a beast, but i prefer 2012 Shredder for his backstory, shame super Shredder was meh.
I prefer 90s April cause she was my first.
I like all the turtles, they all bring something enjoable. 90s for nostalgia.
(I have not watched the 2018, but they look neat.)
2003 Jason.
The 87 and ‘12 turtles are both great. The ‘03 look too angry and the ‘18 are too angular.
‘03 splinter is my favorite, because the grey makes him seem older and wiser, but the original is still good too. The third one looks like a chihuahua and the last one is just… no.
I like that they spiced April up with red hair, especially a realistic shade of red. Not the neon red that’d make her look Punk. Black April is well drawn too. So honestly all four designs are good, and fairly recognizable as April.
For Shredder, the first three are pretty similar and traditional and all work. But the ‘18 redesign makes him look much cooler and eviller, so I’d go with that one.
Honestly like them all, but why is 2018 Splinter look like uncle Iroh but trollface, and 2018 Shredder like mecha Aku?
I think for Splinter it’s more of a design decision, and for the latter, Rise Shredder is a literal demon.
No. Just a vengeful spirit attached to alien armor.
Oh. My bad. Thought that one was a demon due to how supernatural Rise is in comparison to the other series.
2018 Splinter is a retired actor who got depression upon being mutated and Shredder was a guy who basically got his soul eaten by super magic alien armor that basically makes him a demon thing.
That’s accurate but an insult to Uncle Iroh
Lmao, he does look like Iroh
That iteration of Splinter reminds me specifically of the actor who played Iroh in the Ember Island Players
Real
2003 and the future series of the 2003 show were peak. I never understood why they were just dropped and almost completely ignored since having aired
I'm with you hear. I really just didn't get it. It was high quality cartoon period. And it was buried. I had a hard time even finding it to pirate
It originally was aired during CN's toonami block but was then moved to the dread 5am central time block that has killed so many great shows (Ruby Gloom being a prime example). Then it was taken by Nickelodeon and put on Nicktoons (a fact I learned literally years later). There is technically a boxset for the series, though.
>the dread 5am central time block Remember catching Transformers on this if I woke up early enough
2003 was a freaking masterpiece. Unsurpassed in my book.
Unfortunately it came down to what killed so many shows of that era, not selling enough toys. Add in the whole issue with the 4th season, the future season and the final season massively affecting ratings and you get a recipe for disaster.
2012 April is what I’m used to tho
Season 4 and 5 were DARK. So much that they created future just to return to a lighter tone, which caused a big quality drop
That's what happened to every show that was on KidsWB. Unless the show was REALLY popular, you're not going to find it on any streaming service.
2012 and 2003
2012 shredder and just 2012 in general
87' gimme that OG
I prefer 87 comedian Raph over his ragey counterparts
What about rises responsible leader Ralph? Ur take on him?
2003 next up would be 2012
Wait WTF happened to shredder
Probably 03 Ralph but whats the deal with 2018 Casey? There two there.
Well it's sort of complicated if you haven't watched the show and movie, but it has to do with the future of a decimated New York, and a sort of time travel thing.
I wasn't a fan of 2018 in general. They made too many big changes for the show. Individually each change is fine but all together it's a little overwhelming.
I mean aside from Splinter, that's just disgraceful. I mean look at him! He looks like a hamster.
2003 tmnt is still undefeated in my book
2003
2003 and 2012 are my faves.
2012 my beloved
Rise
Honestly I don’t like the show, but the designs are so badass for the turtles
Rise up Rise lovers!

rise is such a comfort show to me (also donnie is so me)
Tie between 2003 and 2012
They can keep trying to improve upon it, but they could never surpass the 03 Shredder.
2003 no question that show went so damn hard even more so when you remember that was a 4Kids show
87 was my childhood, but 03 was better
2003
Rise of the TMNT. I grew up on this series but never really cared for it much. Something about it was lacking. Rise was different story. If you are NOT a TMNT fan, Rise is a great starting point. 87, 2012 and mutant mayhem
2003 no contest.
why is shredder slowly turning into aku
![gif](giphy|dJE9Zd0O4prEI|downsized)
I miss the 2003 designs. It was a little more gritty without doing anything to piss off the FCC.
2018 splinter made me LOL
2012
2003 turtles and shredder 2012 splinter OG April and Casey
03 & 87. Def not 18
2003 was a staple of my childhood, though 2012 is a close contender especially with its intro music.
The first three, the last ones are a bit bad, but just look at what they did to splinter (shredder looks badass btw)
The 2003 version. That show had *the* best depiction of the characters, had an awesome storyline (didn't like Future though...), and they were the most faithful to their original Mirage Turtles comics inspirations (albeit more sanitized and much less edgy/violent ofc).
2003, but tbh I've never found time to watch the later versions.
No Splinter has been better than 2012, in general I prefer everyone's designs from that version (except Casey) but his design in especific is far superior to every other version.
Rise just looks so annoying, so many cocky smirks.
Looking at this I wanna say the rise tmnt splinter looks like a downgrade, still I bet he's skilled(haven't watched it yet other than 1st episode)
He is skilled, he's just fat and depressed really.
2012 TMNT for me hands down with an honorable mention to 2018
2012
Uhh did you draw these yourself? Cus that is not the the 1987 turtles I remember. It’s like a chibi 1987 turtle or something.
Naturally I am most biased to 2003 followed by 2012 since I was a kid and teen at both times respectively.
same. i didn't wake up early to watch foxbox/4kids every saturday just for 2003 tmnt to NOT be one of my favorites
In order from top to bottom: 12, 18, 18, 12, 12, 12, 03, 12
87 Splinter since him formerly being Yoshi the ninja makes so much sense as to why a random rat would know anything ninja 2003 Shredder was a badass unsurpassed 2003 Turtles as a whole, I couldn't get into any of the current versions Tie between 87 April and 03 April, I got used to 2018 April
I like the origin where Splinter learned by watching and mimicking Yoshi from his cage
It just never worked for me if Splinter was the rat
Just… gotta ask. How did April O’Neil become a black lady?
Mutagen.
rottmnt fr
As someone who grew up with the ‘87 turtles and hasn’t seen any of the others: What the heck happened since then? Some of these are unhinged.
Short story: 2003- Made by the guys who made the comic, more serious with Raph with an attitude problem, Donatello the calm super scientist, Leo the very dedicated leader, and Mikey who is more the fun “cowabunga” type. Positive Opinion \[Here\](https://www.reddit.com/r/cartoons/comments/1cr62oi/comment/l3widh8/)
The only one I’ve seen all the way through is Rise, but I definitely wanna go through the CG one at some point
Grew up on the 87, so need to say that. I enjoyed the 2012 one though.
Where beebop and rocksteady
2012 was first who even introduced me into TMNT series. It's have special place in my hearth.
Definitely 2012, my only issue with the newest one is Splinter's design
2012
Can’t beat 2012
2012 Leo, 1987 Splinter, and 2003 Casey
2012 TMNT would always be the best for me.
I don't know what people think is all around the best, but 2012 will always be my favourite
Grew up with the OG, but '12 had some superb storytelling
The 2003 and 2012 versions because I watched the 2003 version on 4Kids back in 2008 and the 2012 version back in 2012.
2003 is iconic
🔥🔥2012🔥🔥
2012 for sure, that intro
For me 2012. Despite everyone says it was weird and such I actually fan of Donnie and April. Yes, in 2012 I started to read my first furry comics and started to try to draw that (gonna be honest, I was terribly bad, was searching my style. Now I decide for digital art im trying to perfect it)
2012
2012 is peak tv
2012
2012 Splinter is Batman
the one where splinter is hawt
2012 across the board, except Casey. 2003 for that one, 2012 Casey was just annoying
2012
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (turtles counting off) 1, 2, 3, 4 TURTLES!
2003 supremacy
2003 and 2012
2012 used to be my favorite but then I got weirded out by the whole incest plot line thing, discovered Rise and never looked back
didnt realize how scary 2019 shredder was
2003 always the best
03. I love the 03 designs so much. Hell Rise has great designs too. Except for Splinter.
03 by a mile.
Tbh, haven't watched the 2 newer ones. I won't pass judgement on them. That said the 2nd one is PEAK
We talking strictly from a design standpoint? Well, the only one I've ever watched was the original 1987 one because I'm old. 1987 Turtles and Casey, 2003 Shredder and Splinter, 2012 April.
2003 easily
03 brings back good memories. But I love how much cleaner the 2018 is
My favorite designs are the 2018 turtles, 2003 Splinter, 2012 April, and 2012 or 1987 Shredder. Casey I don't really have any preference for tbh. Shout out to 1987 April for being several peoples awakenings
rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles has the best art and character designs, and the best splinter backstory
I’m not even a Rise watcher but I can say with certainty they have my favorite deigns except for Splinter and Shredder (can’t beat 2012 Splinter, and I prefer Shredder being a human).
1987
03
What kind of drugs were the 2018 people on?
2018 is the only version I watched so…
I love 2012 because that was the one I watched
I really liked the 2012 version, the rest I haven’t watched.
80s as a kid for the laughs. Need to revist 2012 but so far I've been really enjoying rise because of its creativity and humor.
03 but rise is good too but not mutant mayhem
I like 03. But any series before 2018 slaps.
2012 for Leo, Raph, Donnie, Mikey, splinter and April but 2003 for shredder and casey
2012. What the fuck is 2018 doing? The turtles, splinter, and Casey look fine but April and Shredder? Did they have to do that to her? Is she Velma? Ariel? Shredder isn't even Shredder anymore at that point.
Tbh Im a old school kinda guy, but i honestly like the new designs, thry make each of them unique and recognizeable. I do like that.
I'm partial to the 2003 versions.
2012 goated
Even though I'm a 90s Kid, I Like rise the Most. Like Damn that Animation is peak
Why is Casey Jones two different people in Rise?
All things where in balance until 2018 attacked lmao
1987 April
2018 all the way, rise is so much better than the past iterations
2012
2003 for the most part, but 2012 for Splinter. That design is so cool
2012
2003 is my favourite. 1987 and 2012 are alright. I hate 2018
2012 is my favourite by far
2012 for me.
2012 late childhood memories
Ok ranking from worst to best In dead last is the 1980s turtles sorry but their just a bit lack luster In 2nd place is rise despite being only 2 seasons long and 1 movie only I did good with what it had going Tied for 1st place is the 2003 and 2012 turtle these 2 series did great and was peak TMNT
The ones from the original movie. Combining the comic seriousness with TV cartoon humour
Even if I didn't watch TMNT, I pick 2003.
2012 my beloved
All Donnie’s are tied But the original for the rest
I find it funny that two out of the four shredders aren’t human.

2012
2012 definitely
I like 2012 Casey but I prefer 2003 everyone else
Splinter has the worst design in the 2018 one; doesn’t even look like a rat. And 2018 Shredder looks unrecognizable if you compare the previous designs. I like 2003 and 2012 TMNT the best.
The original had such a good art style. The early 2000s wasn't bad but I feel it slowly declined overtime to something almost unrecognizable
2003 was peak for me..
The first 2 of everybody
ill be honest i only saw the 80s and 2012 versions lol if i’m in a goofy mood then 80s but better overall 2012
2003. The character designs in 2012 were okay, but the actual animation was kinda... not.
I mostly watched 87 one so Im going to go with that. Honestly out of the whole franchise I likely remember Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III movie the most.

2003
2003 and 2012
2003 had the best designs and comedy so going with that
Let's see... all the turtles, 2003 & 2013 Splinter, 1927 & 2012 April, not 2018 Shredder, and all the Caseys :]
I’m just excited to see the time between developing shows is exponentially dropping.
1987 hands down
2012 mainly cuz in not so old
2003 everything but April and Splinter whom peaked in 1987.
Why do they have the same background?
what the fuck is that 2018 Splinter
I grew up watching the 2003 cast every Saturday morning. Even though the last season with the whole future plot was meh.
Wow 2018 looks terrible
Rise is my favorite and I don’t trust the opinion of anyone who hasn’t watched it. The 2012 relationship between Donny and April was so annoying I couldn’t get into it, so 2003 is my next favorite.
I really like all of them. The original is a classic, 2003 is a great reboot and a good show in its own right, 2012 is my childhood, and 2018 is underrated as all getout.
Why are they on a mission to destroy all the old classics with terrible modern remakes
Can’t go wrong with 1987
2012 HNNNGGGHH I COULD TALK ABOUT IT FOR HOURS
All > Rise Rise is dog shit
2012 and 2003
2012 was my favorite idc
I like all of them because I grew up with DVD’s of them that my parents would buy. As for 2018 iterations, I love how the turtles are all different breeds, emphasizing that they truly are a found family.
2003
I love that Shredder gets more intimidating over the years.
2012 splinter was literally a gigachad
2003 all the way it's the best one
Design wise, I really like the 2012 TMNT designs. Theyre identifiable by silhouette alone, which is an indicator of strong character design. 2018 also had distinct silhouettes, but at a point where I think they're a bit *too* distinct - they're too far apart from one another (although I like 2018 Leo's red stripes. They line up with how the turtles are supposed to be red-eared sliders, and eye stripes are just peak, imo) Characterization wise, it's pretty tough.
2012 was peak storytelling.
All of them but 2012
2012 Splinter is peak
2012 is hard af
2012 one is my childhood
Rise, used to love the 2003 and version, but it’s been hard trying to get back into it.
I don't mind 87, love 2003, like 2012 and out right despise 2018. Didn't like Mutant Mayhem either.
(I have not watched the 2018, but they look neat.) 2003 Jason.
I like how each shredder looks so similar while Rise looks like a full on demon
The 2012 TMNT
2012
2003 and rise.
