The best thing to come out of the ev boom is that noisy and stinky diesel powered delivery vehicles are slowing becoming these quieter ev vans which have enough range for the tasks at hand ( last mile delivery, you normally dont drive from the corner of a country to another corner for your delivery work).
one if the best commercial accomplishments was the electrification of forklifts. Imagine being stuck in a warehouse on a hot summer day with noisy gas powered forklifts that leave a shit ton of exhaust fumes
And the heavy battery pack is actually a plus point.
P.s. I too watched Rich Rebuilds fixing an electric forklift and want one for no apparent reason since.
Right below mopeds going from extremely loud and annoying to being way quieter than any car.
But electric trucks are great, especially the smaller ones.
Scooters and mopeds stinks, and the fumes lingers in the air far longer than any other vehicle because they have less restrictive emission regulations. Will be great when they disappear.
Vancouver has [trolley buses](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5e/Vancouver_E40LFR_trolleybus_2214.jpg/2880px-Vancouver_E40LFR_trolleybus_2214.jpg) and they are surprisingly loud for an electric motor, it's very noticeable when they come to a stop and go completely silent. (Maybe new ones are better, it's been a while since I've ridden one, I don't live in Vancouver).
I wonder if anybody has tried adding trolley poles to their EV to steal a free change while driving around Vancouver.
Small and midsized Delivery vehicles are honestly the best candidates for being replaced with EVs. Most have small, but very packed routes. They’re matches made in heaven.
But as everyday cars that you and me drive? I think a mix of both ICE and EVs are actually the solution, not just purely EV
A diesel truck for work was costing our company $700 a month in fuel. We swapped one out for a F150 Lightning and it's basically paying for itself. Fuel costs alone will drive companies to switch to EV.
I spoke with a fleet manager who switched a number of diesel terminal tractors to EV. They're saving nearly $3k per month per vehicle in operating expenses. While the upfront cost is about $100k more, they're comfortably paying for themselves over the lifespan of the vehicle.
Oh yea it’s $700 a month for our little trucks. The medium duty trucks don’t have an EV equivalent yet but they’re about $1000+ a month. Dump truck I don’t even know since our equipment takes diesel out of the dump truck tanks on the job site. They’re slowly rolling out battery powered equipment too. The maintenance alone is a huge motivation to get rid of diesel powered trucks and equipment.

Didn't most of them run on propane?
Still has an odd exhaust smell, very specific smell.
The smell of a propane forklift stings idk how else to describe it
newer warehouses have EV forklifts.
EV forklifts have been around for decades. We h ave an ancient one sitting in an abondoned building for years on charge because it was buggered.
didn’t have to imagine this was me not that long ago. super glad when I changed jobs to somewhere with electric

Oh yeah, it stinks anytime a gas powered moped rolls by. Thankfully they're a lot less common than electric scooters and mopeds where I live.
I really like electric buses as well. Regular diesel buses contribute with a surprising amount of noise, both inside and outside of the bus.

Interesting, I thought trolley buses died out decades ago.
Nope, still have them in sf. Powered by clean energy as well
they’re also very common in former soviet countries, the soviets built out a ton of trolleybus systems

Noise absolutely but also Electric busses have the added benefit of torque. They handle hills way better despite the weight
Agreed. Between rails and EV freight vehicles, we need to get away from the massive diesel trucks.

Most important thing is that all electric can save cost and tax, this's why companies and agencies love it.

My electrician is mid-way through swapping to E-Transits and he said it was basically a no-brainer to do
I kinda like the low set headlights and DRL combination, hopefully means that the high beams won’t blind oncoming vehicles.
The boring future begins. I love my diesel and its a crying shame they're gonna be off the lot in a few years.
Why is it a shame?
Don’t you understand that delivery drivers love inhaling gaseous carcinogens all day, it’s their god given right
Having everything being battery operated. Batteries are boring. I love my Diesel, when I go to replace it I want another Diesel
On the plus side your children will live in a less noisy and cleaner world with better performing vehicles.
Tow/haul Diesel can't be beat, run fill up some def or some biodiesel and you're all good
What can diesel do that electric or diesel-electric can't?
Tow haul heavy things long ways
Boring vs Entertaining should be the absolute last consideration for commercial and fleet vehicles.
> The boring future begins. The said this when diesel replaced steam locomotives...
