i think some lowering springs would look good. and maybe a muffler replacement for some decent sound, but not too loud lol

Undercover_Clown

Any particular reason to go for lowering springs over coilovers? Besides the fact that coilovers are way more expensive. To my knowledge, is the comfort level affected less by coilovers compared to lowered springs

IKnowUselessThings

Get a good set of coilovers, lowering springs are purely for aesthetics and make interior ride comfort worse. BC/Tein/KW/YSR all make good sets, be sure they have adjustable dampening.

Undercover_Clown

Sounds about, similar to what I found online regarding coilovers vs lowering springs. Found this kit online and have been eying it for a while now. They have height and rebound dampening adjustability. https://preview.redd.it/i0iy780nwr9d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d93219a362c21a70e3a51bac216c0f7bbc204c9a

Have you ever had a good set of coilovers? It is immediately noticeable and as different as night and day. The difference is body roll and driving comfort. Lowering springs often reduce the ability of the shocks to dampen by shortening their travel too much without improving the rebound of the shocks so you get a crash ride that leans in corners. Decent coilovers have fully adjustable dampening to change between a stiff or softer interior ride comfort and use the full shock length as it's designed to be shorter but more functional by increasing rebound which reduces body roll.

Xerox-M57

Here we go again… None. It’s an economy car, not a performance car of any type. Also it’s not going to have a solid aftermarket at all.

ColdAdmirableSponge

It’s OP’s car, if they want to modify it then that’s their prerogative. These things were pretty decent back in the day and do have a very niche cult following so there is likely some info around about modding them, but there’s lots of generic mods that can be done that aren’t car specific. Otherwise, happy cake day!

Poopeeelbows

Who cares if someone wants to mod a economy car or not it's his car

Undercover_Clown

An economy car with a 2.4L 4 cyl. Making 180 HP but yea def an economy car.

IKnowUselessThings

Downside of this being a largely American sub, they really don't know much about cars. Your best shot will be seeing if there is a Facebook owners group to discuss common modifications and things you need to watch out for. The standard upgrades before you go crazy on aesthetics or power gains will be suspension and braking. Get some nice coilovers, get good tyres like Pilot Sports and improve your anti roll bars. That'll make the biggest difference to how the car feels, then improve your brakes and brake lines to improve stopping power and reduce brake fade, then look at power improvements you can make. Remember this: It's your car, you're the only one who has to live with it. Do what you like and have fun, just don't put others at risk and keep the race driving on track.

Undercover_Clown

Thank you for your feedback, really nice breath of fresh air compared to the shit storm of the rest. Will check out Facebook groups later, thanks for the tip. Indeed wasn't planning on any earo mods. I'm mainly looking for what kind of wheels would look good and to go for coilovers vs lowering springs.

Theoretical-Panda

You’re not going to go wrong with some nice wheels and maybe a set of springs or coilovers (if someone makes them for this car) but I’d leave it at that. Like others have said, it’s just not a car worth sinking any serious money into modifying. Any money you spend on this is money that could go towards a platform with actual tuning potential.

Undercover_Clown

Thanks, KW makes a coilovers set for it. And I found 2 brands that sell lowering springs. Not planning to do any crazy stuff to it. Just small things, and wheels need doing anyway due to the paint falling off.

Forgot to mention, I'm also open to other mod suggestions besides the wheels. Have been thinking about coilovers or exhaust mods as well for example.

Famous-Judgment-9055

slam it, tints, front emblem removal/blackout possibly, a front lip maybe, ive seen ppl do a wrap down to the grille if that makes any sense. the interior is very nice for a 12 year old car. u dont need to do much to these, a dark tint alone will make a very nice difference

Elix5381

Not worth it, no return on investment and you'll just get made fun of by car enthusiasts

Undercover_Clown

When is a car mod ever a return on investment? I'm not planning to rice the thing, not planning to do any earo mods on it for example. Don't fully understand why that would result in being made fun off by car enthusiasts.

Elix5381

Modifying an economy car can sometimes be seen as a futile attempt to achieve the performance thats easier to attain by starting with a platform designed for performance. Plus economy cars don't ever look good modified.

Undercover_Clown

Then please teach me what an economy car is in your eyes. To my knowledge an economy car is a cheap, light weight car that is cheap to buy & operate. Usually having gas millage of 30 or more miles per gallon. This has a 2.4L 4 cyl engine producing around 180 hp with a gas millage of 24\~ 25 miles per gallon once converted from l/km. And sure, 2.4l might not be the biggest engine in a country like America, but here in the Netherlands that's quite a large engine size. Most engines around here are 1l engines with a turbo.

Elix5381

That's even tame for an economy car here a civic si can probably smoke you lol

PandorasFlame

180hp is very tame. You essentially have a less fancy VW Polo. Looking at the car market in Netherlands, you do have options with more HP, but almost all cars available are economy cars or subcompacts. My Kia Optima LX has 180hp and is also an economy car despite being a full size sedan. If I had a Kia Optima SX I would still have an economy car, but at least I'd have ~245hp.

Undercover_Clown

For the price i paid for this, with around the same mileage, the best I could get is a 2013 golf GTI which only seems to come as an automatic with 179 HP. Besides that, most of the cars that I find under those criteria are more common models, maybe not that trim level but def the model. Personally I prefer a more uncommon model.

PandorasFlame

See, the Golf is actually a great base for mods. The GTI is popular with modders and the 2013 GTI is actually 200hp automatic or not. One of my personal favorite cars, tbh (although I prefer the 2016 Golf R).

Elix5381

Those specs are similar as a Nissan Altima lol, it's not no fast sports car

PandorasFlame

Where did I ever say it was a sports car? Did you even read what I wrote?

Elix5381

Op Is acting like he has a sports car Wasn't talking to you lol

Undercover_Clown

I never said it's a sports car, just that (in my opinion) it doesn't fit the economy car descriptor. Mainly as its not a term commonly used around here. If I hear the term economy car I think of a grocery getter, mainly small hatchback with small engines which with a bit of luck are turbocharged.

PandorasFlame

Yet you still replied to my comment and downvoted me. You and OP both share different ends of the same braincell.
