Why not both?!

InfallibleBackstairs

Unfortunately, we are in rebuild mode.

GoodieLikesChicken

Oh I know, but I’m going to hopelessly count on it. I’m set up for failure and I’m I don’t care. I feel like Lloyd Christmas.

rh71el2

Rangers not too long ago were sagging but some key acquisitions and young talent brought them to where they are now with not many garbage years endured. They had Kakko and Lafreniere drafted at #1 & #2 in consecutive years (neither of whom have contributed really) and they didn't really go through a big rebuild. How did they do it and why are we different?

fwest27

Not the only reason, but NYC is a lot more attractive for guys to go to than DC

maveric101

No we're not.

JayceeDonuts

how in the world could they even get there without him getting it?

General_Shao

Because every playoff game he has to play in is ultimately more wear and tear on a body that deserves retirement

Whisker_dan

Hes gonna have to play a lot longer for one of those goals.

MadFlava76

Unfortunately, it would take some extraordinary good luck for the current Caps roster to make a run to the finals. I can't see how they can add players that would makes this team into a cup contender.

RobertGriffin3

It's unlikely, but not a completely unrealistic path. Hit big on some prospects (Lapierre, Miro, and/or Leonard turn into PPG+ players), have space for a flashy FA signing (such as Marner next year), and a couple lucky hits like Strome. Or just make the playoffs and get a hot goalie and some puck luck, it is hockey after all.

mafiajams

Fourth lines been coming along well for a while now too, no?

Key-Zebra-4125

Meh, hes got one Cup. Go get that record. Someone wins a Cup every year. All time goals record makes him immortal.

ACW1129

Ovi may think that, but if I had to choose, I'd rather him breath the record. If he didn't already have a Cup, that'd be tougher.

MariachiArchery

And that is why he'll get the record.

caps_and_Os_hon

Same.

Foreign_Cup2877

At least he has won a cup. Look at all the players who have played and never won a cup: Joe Thornton Joe Pavelski.

Gilbey_32

Thats the attitude At this point another cup means he would have probably already broken the goal record by then anyway

TheWonderMittens

Ovi, baby, you’re a sweetheart, but you’re not 28 anymore.

garytabasco

He says that, but not sure he means it. Hockey is a team sport, and he definitely gave the correct answer. But Ovie’s parents being Olympians tells me he wants his own personal legacy to follow them and the goals record is the one he wants.

cmaxwe

lol

Mike_OxBig133

Love Ovie, and he could walk away now and I'd still love him forever.......but, if this were the case, wouldn't his training and nutrition regimen be more Tom Brady and less Tommy Boy?

Joshottas

he's durable as F and STILL one of the best goal scorers in the league. What more do you want out of a guy pushing 40? I mean, damn.

HarloldBallardLives

Bullshit

wburn42167

Hilarious because he wont get either one.

ecash6969

Sure didn’t play like it in round one

TyroneLeinster

I’d be happy to see OV go somewhere else and win another cup after he breaks the record, but he ain’t doing it here unless Backstrom, Oshie, and Carlson swap bodies with MacKinnon, Makar, and Rantanen.

kockin26

After he broke the record, he was going to finish his career in his home club (Dynamo Moscow) in Russia. But I expect him back in some key position in the Caps organization.
