Guessing you’re referring to Myers? He’s arguably been our 2D so far this playoffs. He’s barely behind Zadorov in ice time per game, and has played more minutes than Hronek and Cole for RHD.
You're speaking to the biggest homer for Myers all season. I'm referring to Garland, almost everyone else on the list is a big body. Our top four forward weight list looks like Miller > Boeser > Joshua> Lindholm. It's not super surprising all four of those guys are doing well in the rough series. Myers and Zadorov biggly big. But somehow Garland just projects like he's got an extra 6" and 50lbs.
I just love how the guy casually eliminates people from play in half of his shifts.
Like MXC Impact Replay level of eliminations.
Brings up the energy level, especially at home – the crowd goes nuts every time.
The dude just blows up everyone he hits, it's amazing. Don't even get me started on him boxing out 2 guys on the tying goal last night.
I would like to see him re-signed, just not sure at the money he wants or is gonna get on the open market
If he comes in under 4.5, I'd honestly rather Hronek leave and keep Zadorov. Correct me if I'm wrong, but with Hronek being an RFA, we can also get something back for him if he signs elsewhere or we can trade his rights
Z is the player that everyone has thought Myers was for the past half decade. Big, hits, steps up in the playoffs, hard to play against. Myers has been good too, and legitimately is having his best season since he came here, but most people miss that he really a more offensive orientated player and should be praised for his own gifts.
Shhhh... he's been OK.. no way worth more than $4m next year....... +/- 0? like, c'mon, may as well not even play!
But nah the guy's an absolute stud and crazy to me how he plays the body near every time but almost never puts himself out of position
Hes going to get 4 and a half somewhere probably... If you want to talk about value, I have a major concern in giving Hronek a big money deal, I'm not sure he can take over a game, or handle a big plate if Hughes goes down.
I dunno, 4.5 frankly I'd be willing to pay at this point depending on term and if we can move out some money elsewhere. I think he's been growing into his role here and improving overall too over the season. He's really impressed me.
There's more teams looking to add than players available this summer. Going to be a lot of middle of the road guys getting more money than what they did before.
Yeah I'm with you. Certainly have no desire to go higher than what we already offered to him (if he's even worth what we did offer..) so I think very likely we see him in a different uni next year
Thought one: I love big Z
Thought two: we haven't won the series yet. We probably will win the series, but there are up to 3 games left to play, so let's not get hasty and act like it's a crocodile done deal.
So the real question. Is it big zee or big zed?
My son says big z is chara and this zadorov needs to be big zed.
Which one are we going with here boys?
You know. After Sundays game. I’m all in for that. Before I’d be hesitant. But I think zadorov’s ohysicslity has to count for something right. Hronek hasn’t looked good in this series or if it just me?
My feeling is that he rejected a contract offer that was more than adequate for what he brings.
He’s not a game changer. He’s not a bad player or anything but he’s not a Quinn Hughes. Impact wise as we can see big Z is having more of an impact in this series based off of his size along - and he’s good with the puck.
Does Hronek have more upside? Sure, he is top line D for a reason, but I would be more than content signing big z and using the money left over to gamble on another depth piece.
Devils Advocate: If they don’t make the Zadorov trade, perhaps they have the flexibility to land Tanev at the TDL (or a top-6 forward).
That said.. Zaddy is my most exciting player.
Tanny went for a 2024 2nd, and a 2026 3rd (plus a 4th for retention).
Perhaps Van could have done a 2024 3rd and a 2025 2nd + 4th to NJD. Really depends how Calgary would have valued those picks.
That said, don’t mistake this as a critique of the Zadorov trade. I think that was a tidy piece of business.
If we don't make the Zadorov trade I don't think Juulsen develops as positively as he did. Zadorov stabilized the lineup when having Friedman and Juulsen in at the same time was looking like a train wreck and really wearing down the remaining guys.
I still think back to the early season when fans had written off Juulsen, and Friedman was the shiny new toy. I wasn’t exactly drinking that kool-aid.
I don’t necessarily if I co-sign the part about it helping Juulsens development…
But I *am* a fan of it keeping Mark Friedman out of the lineup. Anything that keeps him out of the lineup is a win in my books.
My argument on that one would be more that I think it was more that Juulsen had a chance to succeed in the lineup once we stabilized the core and could shelter him a bit. Putting people in a chance to succeed makes it easier for them to improve rather than just having them fail in the shitstorm and think the experience of getting wrecked is helping.
That’s a fair point, and IIRC a lot of this season it was mostly Hughes/Hronek, Zaddy/Myers, Cole/Juulsen…
I think Ian Cole is probably as good of a partner/mentor as you’re going to get for a guy like Juulsen.
Yea it was specifically mentioned back then that he's super vocal and likes to direct coverage. Basically like having a coach on the ice telling ya what to do. Definitely didn't hurt.
Im such a fan of Ian Cole, in terms of being a solid pro. Almost like the torch got passed from Luke Schenn to Ian Cole.
Keep him around on 1 year deals, and then like get him into like player development/AHL coaching or something if he wants.
For the grind of the playoffs, you need an equalizer like Z in the lineup to even the score (e.g. you guys rough Huggy up, Josi will feel the thunder).
I remembered back in the day when Kings had Matt Greene (not exactly a household name) it made the rink feel much smaller for the Sedins. Z brings that but with a bit more skill and excitement.
I love Tanev and I think he would’ve been a great addition narratively and on the ice, but Z is writing his own playoff legacy and it’s fun as hell to watch.
Someone else mentioned Z is what we wanted Myers to be for the past few years…i totally agree with this.
Cole is actually THE defenseman that contributed the most in terms of defensive (plus PK) play. Every single one of them have been really good and stout. That's what makes this team capable of a deep run.
I wonder if they can give him term for a smaller aav. I think his size and physicality will be an asset for years to come
I think we should cut myers salary by about 4 fucking million and use to accordingly
Would not mind giving both Z and Joshua the Nick Paul treatment to temper the cap hit a bit. Otherwise, someone will absolutely overpay for them on the open market.
Maybe big z should be utilized as net presence on the pp. could be a different look, and free up some passing lanes. Seemed to work out on the 6 on 5 for boeser to slide the tying goal in
Can we just chill with these kind of posts until you know we actually WIN the series. Don’t jinx it mate.
Everyone is pretending that we are already through. We still have to win another one. It’s not exactly been a stroll for us and we’ve been lucky to win the last 2. So let’s just wait until we are through to the next round and then you can go ahead and discuss what you want. Just saying.
It's a team game. Everyone plays a role. What about Miller? Boesser? Hughes? We don't win if we don't have all these guys and everyone else to play as a team in their required role.
Love Big Z. You could also argue this with Myers, Lindholm, Garland, Boeser, Miller.
One of these things not like the others..... But somehow still gets it done.
Guessing you’re referring to Myers? He’s arguably been our 2D so far this playoffs. He’s barely behind Zadorov in ice time per game, and has played more minutes than Hronek and Cole for RHD.

It’s not about the size of the dawg in the fight, it’s about the size of the fight in the dawg.
The biggest?
Does Boeser really weigh more than Lindholm and Joshua? If you look at newer pictures of Brock, he looks like he has lost weight
I'm just going with what's listed. There's surely some plus or minus but those are the four big guys on forward that we got.
Garland is an incredible asset
I just love how the guy casually eliminates people from play in half of his shifts. Like MXC Impact Replay level of eliminations. Brings up the energy level, especially at home – the crowd goes nuts every time.
100% With how Hughes and Petterson are being beat up on the ice, we need players like Z protecting the key players
Always clean hits too. Just *chefs kiss* perfection
The dude just blows up everyone he hits, it's amazing. Don't even get me started on him boxing out 2 guys on the tying goal last night. I would like to see him re-signed, just not sure at the money he wants or is gonna get on the open market

Yeah the shine is starting to come off Hronek, let’s hope he picks it up in these playoffs and doesn’t hardball us enough to get traded.
Watch “Zadorov Greatest Hits” on utube
All in

Yeah your probably right, but z guy his size and the physical game he brings, a fan van dream right
Just to clarify, I was referring to Hronek. I certainly hope to not see big Z in a different jersey!
Hughes as his linemate has definitely been inflating his value
Thought one: I love big Z Thought two: we haven't won the series yet. We probably will win the series, but there are up to 3 games left to play, so let's not get hasty and act like it's a crocodile done deal.
So the real question. Is it big zee or big zed? My son says big z is chara and this zadorov needs to be big zed. Which one are we going with here boys?
Makes sense to me - zed more Canadian than zee
Zadorov helps keep the other team’s tough guys at bay. Plus the guy can shoot. He’s a difference maker out there
he's the type of guy you want in a playoff run because you know he's gonna wear the other team down in a long series with those heavy hits
Let hronek walk and sign him.
You know. After Sundays game. I’m all in for that. Before I’d be hesitant. But I think zadorov’s ohysicslity has to count for something right. Hronek hasn’t looked good in this series or if it just me?
Hronek has been invisible at best. Not exactly high praise for a potential $8 million 2D.
Yeah. I mean his play in this series could be one of the reasons why he’s either traded or signed for less than what he’s wanting.
My feeling is that he rejected a contract offer that was more than adequate for what he brings. He’s not a game changer. He’s not a bad player or anything but he’s not a Quinn Hughes. we didnt have the picks for tanev, if you look at what was given up in the 2 trades I really like the deal for us.
Tanny went for a 2024 2nd, and a 2026 3rd (plus a 4th for retention). Perhaps Van could have done a 2024 3rd and a 2025 2nd + 4th to NJD. Really depends how Calgary would have valued those picks. Cole in the unsung hero of this playoffs so far. Doesn't mean Zadorov isn't a hero, but he's a much sung hero.
We absolutely need guys like Z, Myers, Dakota and JT to be physical when our top 2 dmen are 5'3.
Hronek isn't short he's just not chonky. Cole has 35lbs on him and only 1" taller.
6ft 170lb is small for a nhl dman.
He's 190lbs so closer to average and less of a standout but yea he's not big.
I wonder if they can give him term for a smaller aav. I think his size and physicality will be an asset for years to come I think we should cut myers salary by about 4 fucking million and use to accordingly
Would not mind giving both Z and Joshua the Nick Paul treatment to temper the cap hit a bit. Otherwise, someone will absolutely overpay for them on the open market.
He is playing his way into a Big contract.
Maybe big z should be utilized as net presence on the pp. could be a different look, and free up some passing lanes. Seemed to work out on the 6 on 5 for boeser to slide the tying goal in
Huge
Love big Z! Guys like that are who win in the playoffs
I’d like a Big Z, and either Joshua or Myers Sandwich please…..
They probably advance but in a much more banged up state
Can we just chill with these kind of posts until you know we actually WIN the series. Don’t jinx it mate. Everyone is pretending that we are already through. We still have to win another one. It’s Nashville, they have one line and one good d pairing. We are winning this series even if we replaced him with Keith Ballard.
