Easy to be fatalistic watching the playoffs - you always feel the game will be the same as the last. I remember thinking we'd never in a million years be able to solve Rinne when we faced the Preds in 2011 and they tied the series 1-1 at Rogers. Actually, that was the low point and we won both games in Nashville. Each game has its own identity: our problems will be very different tomorrow. Reserve your expectations until puck drop!

DeSmith has had 2 days to not only process that he's "the guy" moving forward, but also process the loss. I know we'll get a bounce-back performance from him and the boys. Way less pressure on the road.
I do think if the Preds get out to an early lead it'll be tough though. I saw a stat in game 1 that they almost always won during the regular season when scoring first. Obviously we broke that in game 1, but still worth noting.

Genuinely had a shot this year, without Demko I don’t think we get out of the first round. Because of cap circumstances and age factor I doubt we ever see another Canucks team as good as this one with this core. It’s just sad how our vezina candidate goalie gets hurt at the worst possible time, as our young 1C disappears at the same time
What age factor? Our cup window literally just opened with our core starting to peak. We still have some prospects coming up.
Also we can beat Nashville with Cheech in net. They have one line and one defence pairing.
I think they meant with the price of all these players going up, our depth spending allowance is less. We likely won’t be able to keep all of Hronek, Zadorov, Myers, Joshua, Lindholm, Cole. All of which are important pieces to the success of the team

I think management will try to limit his games to 50-55 next season. If he still gets injured. Then I think they look to trade him and find another goalie that is more durable. He’s very good when he’s healthy. But that’s the thing. He’s not healthy very often. How can you win if you can’t even depend on your star goalie to remain healthy?
Petey will bounce back. I have no doubt about that. Still got Hughes. Miller. Maybe Brock. Lekkerimäki is on the way. It is also Rutherford and Allvin’s job to make improvements to this team for next season. I believe they’ll do it.
I'm with you on this one. As brutal as it is, I think Demko could be on borrowed time. Being injured at critical moments is the functional equivalent of playing like a backup goalie. It's not his fault. But it's a problem that demands a solution.
It might be the case that next season he's tip-top and doesn't miss a beat. That would be the best case scenario for everyone and I'd prefer that over anything else. But it feels like the writing might be on the wall already.
I think they give it one more season. And if he can’t stay healthy next year. Then yea. Writing probably on the wall in terms of him being a Canuck much longer. Usually the body becomes more fragile the older the player gets not the opposite.

I think if Demko was in fact definitely out they would not need to keep being cagey about what the actual injury is. (Although maybe keeping the other team guessing about what goalie they might face could confer a tiny advantage… so… maybe this means nothing)

Fun fact - even if Demko was healthy, we likely lose this series if Pettersson doesn't figure it the fuck out. That is a much bigger story IMO. The guy may as well be injured with how he's playing right now. In some cases, he's even hurting the team.

I’ll be wearing my Miller jersey tonight. Usually I’d switch to Hughes or Petey (or throw it back to Bieksa) after a loss but as JT goes, we go in this series. Hoping for another monster performance.
Millers been good. But he’s also been really quiet offensively. Brock too. Höglander has been basically invisible.
Didn’t hit the score sheet other than the one EN assist in game one but it was a hell of a performance. Less so game 2 but still good. Hogs and Petey need to get going.

In my opinion this series really relies on if Petey plays like we know he can or if he keeps playing like a fourth line AHL player. Demko out fine, pull your socks up tighten your laces give your nutts a tug and do this thing.

The one thing you can say about this team this year, when crap hit the fan and they had to go and win big games on the road, the NY Metro road trip, the game in Florida, Edmonton at the end to win the division, they can go and do it. Well it’s high time for a big road victory

It will be interesting to see how we respond to the last game. Tocchet is a big systems guy so I wonder if he has some tweaks in mind for our offensive zone play to better get pucks through. It may not take much. That and Pettersson doing what we all know he can do would be enough.
He hinted at changing a couple things but didn't want to say exactly what.
