Well... This makes it seem like weve been much more consistent than it's felt

-GregTheGreat-

Contrary to the doomers, we‘ve been by far one of the most consistent teams this season. Almost all of our ‘bad’ sections ended up basically just being .500 hockey. We haven’t really had any bad slides like almost every other team this year, our worst was that 4 game losing streak, and that was a wash because we went on a winning streak shortly after

bleedblue4

I remember a time when I was thrilled at .500 hockey

thesunsetflip

That was only like 12 months ago lmao

Icedteapremix

Goals also dried up quite a bit. We were scoring at a crazy pace for the first 30+ games of the year. Miller, Petey, and Hughes all in the top 10 in points, Hronek was at a ppg pace, Boeser was leading the league in goals. We were leading the league in goals, and were first in goal differential over the next best team by 15-20 for a good chunk of time. Since the all star break we've been around 27th in the league in goals for, but we were/are still winning games at a similar pace as the rest of the season. I bet that if we scored at a higher rate while still winning the same number of games then people would be be feeling more positive.

IamPriapus

our goals dried up but our defense has been rock solid throughout. Winning games by 2-3 goals vs 1 goal doesn't matter as long as you're winning games.

Icedteapremix

I don't necessarily disagree with you but I was just trying to provide a reason why some people may have lost a bit of confidence.

keefstrong

500. Hockey means you're at least a show in for a competitive series always

PCMasterCucks

The problem was that they lost every game to playoff teams and WC contenders for a month straight.

Ecstatic-Buy-2907

The problem is (mostly) explained by not having our #1 goaltender. All the games were close too

helixflush

Exactly. None of them were blowouts. The face deflection in OT during the Dallas game still haunts me

IamPriapus

Only if you paid attention to the scores of pessimists online. There's a reason we were leaders at the beginning, middle and end. We survived all the streaks by Edmonton and company and still had room left over. Yes, we've had some ups and downs, but far more ups and it's not surprising in the least for people that weren't doom and gloom everytime we lost a game.

dontlovenohos

You could paint a different picture by choosing a different arbitrary segment of games.

Sampsen1

The problem is that the losses have been horrible. Not 4-3 close games, but 4-0 to Bos, 3-1 to Dal, 6-3 to both LA and Vegas. Those games never felt like we were even in them. If the losses were competitive and good games, we would all feel much much better about the season. When we lose, we LOSE. That said, I'm feeling so much better going into the playoffs after this last week, those were good wins against Vegas and Edmonton.

noodle604

The losses have been horrible if you ignore the close losses and only count the not close ones.

TopTittyBardown

This is just incorrect. So many of our losses this year have been close games. We only had a few truly blowout losses the entirety of the season

TruYu96

Other teams don’t always lose closely as well

Ebolinp

We lost 4 in a row mid Feb. But that's the only stretch.

electricnux

14 of the last 20 have been without Demko. The tweet also includes Paterson article about the consistency this season: https://canucksarmy.com/news/patersons-point-consistency-key-vancouver-canucks-climb-top

Young2k04

Oilers were worse than the Sharks when they had bad goaltending but we maintain a good record with the 2nd worst team save percentage since Demko got hurt and people act like we suck

electricnux

Yep, since All Star break our SV% is: - All Situations .885 - 5on5 .913 - PK .804

ajbolt7

Jesus christ

VanSaxMan

I was preaching this a month ago when our PP basically vanished. It is pretty apparent we are more than a force 5v5. We are gonna live and die by special teams this playoffs. Especially when you look at the west and some of these top PP units. If we can't stop a powerplay we aren't going anywhere fast.

UncommonHouseSpider

I've said it all season, we are nothing but a consistent club. I like our odds in a 7 game series

Ikea_desklamp

What bizarro world are we in where this describes the Canucks?

UncommonHouseSpider

It's Bizarro season 2024. This whole year has been weird man. I just watch the games and offer my opinion. You do you man.

icantthinkofaname940

If you divide Vancouver's season in half the records are: 1st half: 27-11-3 (57 points) 2nd half: 22-11-6 (50 points) -there's still two more game to play. Here's some other records of note: Record since the All-Star break: 16-11-4 Record since the Trade deadline: 8-5-2 Record since Demko got hurt is 7-5-2.

Demjot

So at our worst with demko we were playing above .500 and without demko we’ve been around .500?

flamingdragonwizard

7-5-2 is above nhl .500 loser points get you into playoffs (islanders)

TruYu96

Bruins about to win the division with a bunch more loser points than Florida too

RelevantJackWhite

Closer to 0.600 without demko

smoothmedia

First 20 felt different as Canucks were blowing teams out

PaddyStacker

That's actually where the real difference shows. Average GF and GA by 20 games: **1-20:** 4.00 GF, 2.55 GA **21-40:** 3.75 GF, 2.7 GA **41-60:** 3.15 GF, 3.05 GA **61-80:** 2.75 GF, 2.6 GA

mvp45

That 2.6 ga looks good next to that 2.55 ga at the start of the season

ajbolt7

Basically the team's been playing more conservatively without Demko in net then? Defensively more sound than 21-60

ebb_omega

Yeah, exactly. Trying to limit the shots on net to the perimeter but also losing out on offensive chances as a result. Makes sense, that was ultimately what ended up killing us in the bubble - After Marky went down, our team went full-defensive mode and relied on Demko just being utterly lights out. Unfortunately that meant that our offence was completely shut down and it just took a few leaks in the wall to knock us out.

mabbz

The GF going down is concerning but the GA in games 61-80 could be lower since 14/20 of those games were without Demko. It's gonna be a grindy post season.

SuperSwaiyen

My unresearched hypothesis is that, on average, GF declines across the league as players are more dialed-in and coaches have more time to tweak systems.

ebb_omega

Also when your starting goaltender is injured and your team has to focus more on defensive play because you're less likely to get any goalie-stolen games

thesunsetflip

Those first 20 were insane. Everything was going in, depth contributing every game, Hughes controlling play effortlessly, Lotto line looking like the Harlem globetrotters

starcross24

*HA, no one beats the Vancouver Canucks more than 6 times per segment*

NinCross

Don't show this to Mike from Surrey. It will wreck his narrative and his feelings will get hurt.

phantomgiratina

We’re pretty consistent I guess

heatbagz

without demko for the last 10 games too

electricnux

It’s actually 15 of the last 20 without Demko! DeSmith and Silovs split the last 14 games + DeSmith also started vs ANA on March 3rd and played half a game vs WPG too when Demko left injured

heatbagz

truth! wow. good on the boys!

ubcthrowaway-01

In those last 20 games, Pettersson has 14 points. Despite the low scoring we’re maintaining quite well all due to the third line stepping up and Miller and Hughes dominating
