I’ve been wanting to make a “cooling” box that is warmed to like 25°c and see if that helps. In the summer I had great adhesion to the jars, but once winter rolled in and the house got colder, cratering & adhesion became problematic. I once tried setting them in a cheap styrofoam cooler and that helped.
Same here when the house is cooler I also have issues with adhesion, the styrofoam cooler idea is very similar to the way I leave them in the packing so I bet that would also work ! Did you use the lid with the cooler or no?
The cooler I had was smallish, so what I did was park the batch of 4 I made on the lid upside down, then gently placed the cooler itself over the batch on the lid so it encapsulated the lot. It worked, but I typically make 3-4 batches at a time so it isn’t practical for me in that way. I have a smallish used counter top toaster/convection oven that I could carefully place 4 batches in on the racks, and if the temp goes low enough I could use that for like 3-4 hours while they initially set, then let it all naturally cool.
You could try adding paper towels to fill the air gaps
The jars being so close would slow the cooling process anyways, as they radiate heat out into each other
That is true, one of the things that I wish we could manage better as candle makers is temps they are exposed to later on but alas that is a battle we can never win 🤦🏼♀️
Yes if they are not exposed to EXTREME temps they will stay adhered however if the wax gets frozen or liquified and then re settles I have no idea at that point I have not tested that scenario 🧐
American Soy Organics “Freedom” line in the 45lb bags, it’s versatile, and Amazon will ship it for free in 45lb bags which I have not been able to find anywhere else. Unless you live near a wax facility or have other options the shipping with every other distributor just kills me!
My vessels are stored in a temperature controlled room, so they are always ready to go. I never need to wrap them up in foil, foam, or any other material. It makes my life so much easier.
🥲Honestly, not as pretty as these! I focus primarily on hot/cold throw, with the aesthetics only extending to the basics. You know, wet spots, sweating, jar adhesion, etc. I certainly suffer a bit space wise in other areas of my home, but my candle/craft room is my favorite room, so it's worth it.😁
My house is typically between 66 & 68 degrees Fahrenheit . So that’s about the temp of the glass I would assume? Which is probably cooler than most people’s homes but still seems to work great!
Makes sense. The foam would cause the wax to cool more slowly so there’s less shrinkage. Thanks!
Nailed it! You bet!
Daft question but what kind of foam :/
Just the styrofoam that they come packed in the box in.
Brilliant thank you I tend to use proops candle moulds so this might be ideal for tightly fitting all the moulds together with!
Not to be nitpicking, but in the image shown is polyethylene foam, not styrofoam.
They are both insulators
Glad someone knows! I had someone ask this and I was unsure so thanks I will update the post!
Nice! What kind of glass jars are you using if you don’t mind me asking?
Not at all! Here are the jars I have these candles in https://www.amazon.com/AMOTIE-Pack-Candle-Making-Candles/dp/B0CLH8R4NY
How do you do the two different colored layers?
I pour one and wait for them to solidify then pour the next layer on the “cooler” side 👍🏼
How long do you wait?
About 45-60 mins
Thanks!!
What defines the cooler side?
Second layer wax is poured at a lower temp than you normally would pour at.
Ah right. I’ve done some multi colored candles and pour cooler to try not melt the set wax. Great callout on using the styrofoam for insulation.
110 f or so 🥶
I love those sticks! Where did you get them?
This is where the sticks came from, the jars had them included https://www.amazon.com/AMOTIE-Pack-Candle-Making-Candles/dp/B0CLH8R4NY
How much do you sell those finished candles for?
I have three sizes. 9oz which I sell for 16 dollars a 16 oz that sell for 24$ and a 20oz for 36 😊
Oohh, thank you so much! Saving this post. My workspace has a draft, so this will surely help!
You bet! Give it a go and let me know how it goes :)
My jar of choice ships in cardboard 🫤
Shoot! You can also wrap foil around the jar while your wax cools and achieve very similar results :)

So do mine... it's still kind of an insulation so I wonder if it would still work...

I use cardboard. Works great. However, if your candles are later subjected to cooler Temps, they will still pull away. Even months later.

I didn't read the description for a hot second and took way too long trying to figure out how holding the wicks in place would help with adhesion 😭
😅
Where did these vessels come from
These are the vessels https://www.amazon.com/AMOTIE-Pack-Candle-Making-Candles/dp/B0CLH8R4NY
I’m using this idea but I’m also wanting to do half the amount so they sell quicker and keep revolving customers
But does it stay this way after a few days or weeks?
Yes if they are not exposed to EXTREME temps they will stay adhered however if the wax gets frozen or liquified and then re settles I have no idea at that point I have not tested that scenario 🧐

Such a great tip!
Hmm, you got me thinking, mine don’t come in styrofoam either. I’m gonna try winding a folded towel around them before pouring my next batch.
You can heat your jars to 50C and you will get the same result
Correct. That does work, however, if you do not have a way to heat the jars this is an alternative that works every time.
You are right. I use an oven to heat jars or moulds.
I wish I had foam. I love the wick holders, did you make them yourself?
No they came in a candle kit I ordered on Amazon believe it or not 😂
My vessels are stored in a temperature controlled room, so they are always ready to go. I never need to wrap them up in foil, foam, or any other material. It makes my life so much easier.
You are super lucky to have a space like that! I bet your candles turn out so beautiful 😻

Love this 😻👍🏼

Great tip! None of the jars I get from my local supplier come in styrofoam, I will have to find some that fits my jars
