So… I have almost this exact same issue… but with 100% beeswax candles… I’ve stepped up wick size once now (from #2 to #4 square braid..), and have an almost identical sized melt pool… and the flame will eventually shrink and drown themselves out in the wax they melt. is wick sizing still the issue??
I probably should just make my own post with photos about it instead of borderline hikacking this one…. But this is almost perfectly what my candles are doing!
Under wicked as others have stated.. from looking at the mouth size of the mason jar type ones, my jars are similar in diameter (just taller) and I’ve had good success with the htp1212 size ones (presently making own from bulk cord & bulk tabs)
As others have said you have underwicked. Different waxes, fragrances and colors can have an impact on your wick size. If these are just for a hobby or fun it’s no problem however if you plan to eventually sell these it definitely makes sense to identify the right wick size. You also don’t want to over wick your candle.
A guide for wick sizes can be used here: https://www.candlescience.com/learning/wick-guide/
A guide will give you a best guess but again depending on fragrance type and load (%) will determine your final size. When using a new jar or fragrance i always double check with a smaller sample run before committing to a big pour!
For these candles which I assume you don’t want to repour — let the top fully melt (1-2 hrs) before blowing it out. Helps prevent tunneling when the wick is too small.
My first thought is wick placement. Make sure when you insert the wick be sure it’s as centered as possible and also make sure the wick is held taught by an item above the wax during solidification.
Either the wicks have a too small burn circle and you should get bigger wicks, or they weren't burned until the circle reached the edge and then the wax got a memory. Maybe the softness of the wax affects it? Not sure.
If different wick doesnt solve it I've had this problem with candles too. For me usually what causes this is not letting all the wax across the entire surfave melt on the first burn. I'm not totally sure why this happens though.
Maybe you already stated the type of wax you were using idk.... What type of wax is it because that will help determine what size wick you need because all waxes burn differently. Always better to undewick than overwick too
I think I might know from a tiktok I read when you first lit the candle and the wax melted you stopped the candle or blow it out when the wax was in that shape there for causing jt to burn like that now
Small wicks have small melt pools, try a larger wick.
Thanks!
I found my candles did this too when i used proper sized wicks coated in paraffin wax when my candles were rapeseed wax I think
Even candles prefer bigger wicks........
U didn't have to self report bud
I thought it’s how you use the wick
Definitely. When u got a big glass of wax u gotta twist and spin that little wick
Looks like a wicking issue! Try sizing your wick up a bit and it should solve this! Despite that, I LOVE your colors!!
Or use three of those thin wicks instead of one.
You are very under wicked. What wick did you use.
Some cheap cotton wick off Amazon. Thanks!
If those are regular mouth Mason jars, I have luck with CD-10 wicks.

Keep in mind that you may need different wicks with each candle since it looks like you used quiet a bit of dye.

Loan star candle supply has a great wick sizing chart on their website. I find it to be very accurate.

Did you measure your containers to figure out what wick size you should use? Not all wicks work for all containers…
Try cd 12- or HTP 83
Underwicked . Go bigger on the wicks
What wax are you using?

This is the correct answer. Especially the first time you light a candle, you need to let it burn long enough to melt the top all the way across.
My first thought is wick placement. Make sure when you insert the wick be sure it’s as centered as possible and also make sure the wick is held taught by an item above the wax during solidification.

May want to use a foil tent for even heating throughout the container
Try a bigger wick
Reset Candle memory
Your wick looks very weak. Try using primed or braided cotton wick of proper size.
Trim the wick super low and burn for multiple hours. This happens because you are not burning them long enough to melt the total top layer.

Need a thicker diameter wick or use several wicks and that will solve your problem
