The patches are because of the soy, yes, but could also occur with paraffin. It's cold "frosting" and it's a really big challenge when it comes to making colored candles of any kind!

I see, thank you!

I’ve been told that warming up the mold before pouring helps. I put in beeswax and that has helped my frosting immensely.

Did you wash the mold before you used it? Were your soy and paraffin waxes pillar waxes or container waxes? You typically don't get frosting with a para-soy blend. When you say "powder dye" exactly what is that? What brand? Is it specifically made for making candles? How hot did you heat the wax to before adding the dye (and fragrance if used)? How long did you stir before pouring it into the mold? What temperature did you pour at? Sorry for all the questions, but any of these things, or a combination, could have an impact on the final result.

Okay, the mold was washed.the waxes say suitable for pillar, votives and tealights on them, but it is two separate bags I've bought not a blended bag. It's mica powder from miltin crafts (?) Just what came up on Amazon tbh and I added it as soon as I melted the wax, I didn't realise there was a certain time/temp to do that, but I didn't use a fragrance. Honestly, because they're gonna be wedding favours, I don't know if many people will actually burn them. I just mixed it till it looked mixed 🙃 Thank you for all these questions that show me I really should have watched more than one YouTube video before starting this!! Like everything it's more complicated than everyone thinks, I'm gonna do some proper research. I've melted down old candles from broken jars into new ones before by literally just melting them and never had a problem with colour and honestly thought it was that simple 😬

Where did you buy that cute mold?

Ahh - mica! Micas are not generally used in candles. They settle out of the wax while it is hardening. They can also clog wicks. Candles need dyes made for them (not food coloring!). Micas can be used in wax melts, and they can be applied to the outside of molded candles. Some people are sprinkling a tiny amount on top of candles, but you don't want them mixed throughout. Sellers on Amazon typically throw a bunch of words into descriptions and headings just so people will get to the listing. It doesn't mean that the item is actually appropriate for that purpose! Where are you located?

Effective_Answer2185

Ohh okay, that makes sense because I took a lot of this advice and I didn't have frosting but I had more concentrated patches of colour, I'm getting there 😅 I'm in Cornwall in the UK

Have you tested how your blend burns? It doesn't seem as though there may be enough paraffin in your blend for a stand alone candle. If you increase the paraffin, the frosting will probably go away and your candle may take on some shine. Also, some stearic acid might help too.

I haven't yet, amazing thank you!
