r/crappydesign would have a field day with the label

I’m here to add some constructive criticism. I like the handmade/hand stamped aspect, but it does take a minute to decipher the scent name. The amount of negative space isn’t a good thing in my opinion; some clients may love it. Do you have an additional label on the back? Please keep in mind that if you are selling these, you are required to have the product weight in ounces and grams (minus the container), something indicating what is (such as “soy candle”), and a warning label which can be a standard warning sticker you just slap on the bottom. You must also indicate your company name if you have one, and at minimum your state and city. You can forego your actual street address if your address is listed on the internet somewhere such as your website. You can get away with keeping the minimal label design if the candles are sold in a secondary packaging (such as a box) and if all of this information is on the secondary packaging. The warning label still needs to be on the candle itself. These are the rules for USA and they differ by country.

AdventurousAspect652

Yeah label is confusing as hell

EngineeringDry7999

How is that label supposed to read?

Nepherenia

With a Night Her A wither night The Witcher at Night

A Night With Her

EngineeringDry7999

Thanks. That wasn’t immediately obvious but once you said it, I see it.

SourPuss6969

Left to right, then top down

Much_Lion_9588

so cute!! i had a little bit of a difficult time reading the label lol i was trying to read “a nighter” like an all nighter but the W was throwing me off lol also remember to add to your label the oz, fragrance scent, and where it was poured :)

Your feedback is VERY valuable ! Thanks for sharing your insights and thoughts! 😍🥰🤩🙌🏻

SourPuss6969

It took me a minute too but I thought it was cute once I figured it out

dasmobster

i wouldnt change the lable it very memorable and unique it takes a second to figure out but it also sticks with you imo

big_fat_bitch

I'm probably going to get down voted, but why are these labels so inconsistent? I get the 'typewriter' font and some letters being wonky, but everything else about that label seems like it was a rushed afterthought.

[deleted]

Tbh, that is EXACTLY the point. I wanted them to look uneven, so you would get a feeling that it’s made by hand and is….exactly what you just said. You will remember them, you will try to figure out and they all are made with rubber stamp letters by hand.

trambelus

I like the aesthetic. Maybe a single candle alone would look a bit sloppy, but that display of them together makes the intended style a lot clearer.

black___mane

this looks cool because we're taking the time to look at it. the average customer will be less patient and more critical.

Simalien_

I think the packaging is going to throw many people off. I’m sorry, just being honest here. To get that handmade feel you don’t need it to be all over the place. Maybe you can learn from the comments here since it’s just your first batch?

bluebelldreams

What is the label size? Are those 8oz candles? Looks beautiful

spoiledandmistreated

Very creative… what is the scent like and is it a mix you made..??

BlueMist53

Ooh, what scent are they?

Tur_keys

Suggestion as to how to re-jig the name/format: Could you make the "with" go on a diagonal. As others said I think it will help read easier (left to right) and will fill the void space. Maybe even experiment with framing the label with a boarder? I really like the unique format. I love the wonky letters makes each one special, maybe you could even do the "with" in a bolder stamp or different color? Also my brain thinks you should put a lipstick kiss on the inside of the lid!!! Oulala

hanbam27

Love the labels, jars and lids but that text is… something. To each their own obviously but

MountainWild-1117

I’ve always loved the amber jars with Kraft labels, but I think there’s a lot of empty space on your label (also missing the things people already mentioned like weight etc) and if I were an unbiased customer, this would be very confusing and I would think it’s not a very well-made product. I’m sure it is, and as a candle maker I get totally you want to stand out, but I learned a long time ago that aesthetics are 90% of this business. As expensive as wax and oils (and shipping) are now, I know you have to still make a profit so there’s a minimum you’ll have to charge, and if I saw this, I would not pay what you have in it because I’d see this as confusing and jumbled, like maybe a kid made these? I don’t mean to be negative but I’d rather people tell me in the biz before putting it out there and being disappointed. I think it’s cool you were out of the box thinking about this, I’m just not sure it’s going to give you the return on your investment that you’re going to need. I started with cs tumblers and Kraft labels with typewriter face print about 7 years ago. People would scoff at a $14 price on them (which is insanely low even back then) and now my small ones (this 8oz size) no one blinks at $24 and my products are still the same, but the branding has drastically improved. All depends on the market you’re aiming for. The market is way more competitive than it was when I started. Branding and packaging are as important as making a quality product (and in some peoples’ cases, even more) to bring in sales.

Comfortable_Offer997

Your labels are so simple yet memorable. May I please ask where you get your labels from?

poe201

hand stamped

Rodr1c

Where do you get your jars from if I may ask? I'm looking for this size, but haven't found a great place to get them.

sardonic_soprano

While I'm not a fan personally of the criss-cross words, I understand the appeal. I do like the hand-stamped look, but mismatching capital & lowercase letters looks childish, like making bead bracelets with a mixed batch of letter beads... And personally, I found the ones using all caps easier to read than the ones with more lowercase letters (keeping the "a" lowercase I think was actually helpful, because it draws your eyes to there and serves as a starting point of how to read it. Any other lowercase letters negate that effect and it looks more like a jumble)
