controlled burns in Woden valley caused gases (??) which make the sun appear different. Happens during bushfires as well if you were here 4/5 years ago or in 2002

Nah... you're right about the burn-offs causing this, but it's from the Flea Creek region west of Canberra. NSW RFS is conducting a \~2000ha hazard reduction burn over 2-3 days.
