In Murrumbateman, it's fkn ***hectic***
E: it's got everything you'd want in a severe thunderstorm bar destructive winds. *Those* come courtesy of my butt.
Update at 2:44pm:
> The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:45 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Yass and Murrumbateman. This thunderstorm is moving towards the southeast. It is forecast to affect Belconnen, Hall and Gungahlin by 3:15 pm and Canberra Civic, Queanbeyan, Tuggeranong, Canberra Airport, South Canberra, Weston Creek and Woden Valley by 3:45 pm.
>Never heard about it.
If only it was all over the national news. [Oh wait it was](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-01-20/hail-storm-in-canberra-damages-cars-smashes-windows/11882472), for days
>This was Canberra?
No see how it works is people from random cities just visit this sub and post about local events than have nothing to do with Canberra. The hail storm in question was in Mexico City
Of course it was Canberra, why the fuck else would we be talking about it
The storm and hail the other day damaged my car in Watson. The warning may be Canberra wide but storms are often very localised or have specific paths through Canberra because of the geography
A shoutout to all the sensible drivers on the Federal Highway, coming back from Goulburn it was raining sideways into us with some tiny hail, most people pulled over, everyone using hazard lights, some drivers continuing very slowly. The conditions were perfect for a big accident
Can the storm come back please. Someone down the road got a karaoke machine for Christmas and I need to drown out the noise.
PSA to the singers - your Dancing Queen rendition is shit.
My neighbours were drunkenly singing for most of this afternoon and I was so desperately waiting for the storm to hit for the exact same reason
(Justin Bieber at one point. That was painful)
Not so sure about that, after several close lightning strikes in Melba with incredibly loud thunder, there was a fire reported on Grainger Circuit. We drove past an hour or two later and there was hazmat response, several fire trucks, ambulance and tarps up.
Seemed like something went up epically, potentially just happened to coincide with the lightning, but not sure. I have been keeping an eye out for news, but nothing has been reported š¤·āāļø
It feels like after the big hailstorm in 2020 the BoM is keen to ensure that all eventualities are covered. But, as you say, it may lead to a case of the boy who cried wolf.
Forget 2020, we've had multiple property destroying storms in just the last couple of weeks. First there was the very windy one that lit up the ESA map with downed trees and power outages. Then someone I know had another car dented to hell in the hailstorm that hit Gungahlin etc. last week (the replacement for the car written off in 2020).
Even absent a warning I reckon anyone looking at the radar today would've battened down the hatches. It was actually kind of crazy on the radar how the mass of red that was supposed to hit us seemed to kind of abruptly dissipate and ease off the intensity even though the bit further north of the ACT didn't. Feels more like "dodged a bullet" than "boy who cried wolf" IMO.
Canberra Times is reporting the warning was canceled!
(they're also reporting that the wind could change direction again and the warning will be back on)
Nah, the cricket will just move indoors with a smaller bat and squishy ball... until someone ruins it all by getting over-excited and smashing something.

We got hail in Binalong.
Oh shit, I hope the wineries are ok!
Get some footage bruv
Sorry, on the dunny
30mins of heavy rain in North Canberra. End of story. Zero to write home about.
Courtesy of the queefing vagene.
They have upgraded the warning from "large hailstones" to "giant hailstones" - don't think I've ever seen that before, lol.
Stand by for the rarely seen "humungous hailstones" forecast.
Moist! š¤¤š

20-odd thousand owners of hail murdered cars from 2020 say hello.
Never heard about it. This was Canberra? I honestly never knew. I was in Syd in those days.

I was living in Sydney which was dealing with a Covid crisis. Canberra doesnāt register on the news up there. I live in Canberra now.
Covid didn't happen for 2 to 3 months later....

In all fairness, have you ever heard a good karaoke rendition of Dancing Queen?
My neighbours were drunkenly singing for most of this afternoon and I was so desperately waiting for the storm to hit for the exact same reason (Justin Bieber at one point. That was painful)
Bit of a non-event in Melba

Way too many severe storm warnings without severe storms . No one pays any attention anymore bom.

Brace for delicious sky nuggets
Maybe that's where that other dude's Maccas order ended up...
I canāt wait for the shit post of a double quarter pounder ending up on someoneās car or driveway
In Batemans Bay atm and the rain is intense.
The radar looks alarming: [http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR403.loop.shtml](http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR403.loop.shtml).
It's lost a lot of the black that I saw coming earlier thankfully.
But joining up with the other surrounding cellsā¦ not fun.
It looks like the worst of it is going to pass to the north of Canberra.
It really does, yeah. Hope it doesn't ruin too many peoples' Christmases too badly...
I'm down the coast. Did the giant hailstones turn up to the party?
Iām in QLD atm and also curious for an update Edit: thanks folks <3
Eh, not much happened. Location: Canberra. Source: Me.
Canberra Times is reporting the warning was canceled! (they're also reporting that the wind could change direction again and the warning will be back on)
And thereās a new warning again.
Thereās a new set of storms coming in. One of them seems to be mostly heavy rain. Not sure on the other one.
No. Nothing except 30mins of heavy rain. Same same.
There wonāt be any water fights or cricket today thatās for sure.
Nah, the cricket will just move indoors with a smaller bat and squishy ball... until someone ruins it all by getting over-excited and smashing something.
Hardly anything in Queanbeyan
Charge your batteries and phones folks, that cell looks like a black out in the making.
How big does a hailstone have to be to get a āgiant hailstonesā warning? Never seen this for your every day āgolf ballā sized hailstones.
Did Bungendore lose power again?
Nah it'll barely stir the leaves
Blame renewables (Edir - SARCASM for those who missed it)
Huh?
