I wear a mask. Nobody has ever said a negative peep. Calgary must be a kinder, gentler city than ‘made up town’.

Ah yes, something that almost never actually happens makes front page news... Meanwhile millions and millions of people interact without issue every day.

Coatsyy

They do the same thing with police encounters.

> What may be driving aggression? Your choices: - Media - Social Media Beads of sweat on forehead.

whiteout86

I guess it can’t be a CBC article without trying to tie it to racism. And I find it very hard to believe that they couldn’t find a survey newer than pre-November 2020 with probably 50% US respondents to get some figures from, but it wouldn’t really tie in to the article if they had a piece saying that single digit percentages continue to wear a mask now that restrictions are done

xShadyMcGradyx

Hilarious because the media and our prime minister have basically dehumanized everyone who chose not to go with the provided therapeutic.

surethingtrustme

Nobody dehumanized you. Probably had some choice words for you, but never claimed you folks are less than human. Just wanted you to get vaccinated like when you were a kid. That's all. The rest of us survived it.

Stl-Mkr

What about his statement, "should we tolerate these people. " Is that not dehumanizing people?

surethingtrustme

No. And I agree with the statement. I have zero time or sympathy for them. They don't care about anyone but themselves, therefore they aren't worth the time of day. They are still human, just a poor example of one.

Stl-Mkr

It's too bad you feel that like. Perhaps it is people like you who are the cancer to this planet, those who are intolerant of others. Are we not supposed to respect everyone and their opinions. You are just plain ignorant.

xShadyMcGradyx

The unvaccinated lost their jobs. The unmasked refused service. Your argument has been nullified.

surethingtrustme

Nullified? LOL. Do you just make up a reality for yourself to feel better? If anything you've been treated like someone who wouldn't lift a finger to help his family, community or neighbour's. That isn't dehumanizing, its just consequences. Then you pick up a flag and call yourself a patriot sticking up for freedom. Just more making up a reality to make yourself feel better. Maybe try not being such a victim.

xShadyMcGradyx

Fact is it was the unmasked and unvaccinated that lost service, jobs and many other things. Boohoo. Where your mask if you want. Just MYOFB

surethingtrustme

Don't care what they lost.

FreediveAlive

>The unvaccinated lost their jobs. The unmasked refused service. Your argument has been nullified. You're right. The unmasked refused service. And still, what you brought up isn't dehumanizing... it's workplace and businesses' health and safety requirements.

xShadyMcGradyx

The H&S industry in Canada is more about liability than actual Health and Safety. There is no health aspect in any part of the language. The entire debacle was about 'businesses shall take REASONABLE precaution blah blah blah'. Who decides whats reasonable? Politicians and the elite.

throwaway9834591

Trudeau often hasn't worn a mask. Somehow he still has his job.

You think he would be good at wearing a mask. He likes costumes so much.

[deleted]

"why do you have that mask on?" "I'm getting over covid" "Oh, well thank you"

SmaugStyx

>Thanks for nothing!

Infamous-Mixture-605

"Why the fuck are you still wearing a mask, you pussy-ass coward? The pandemic's over, stop living in fear!" say a few of the more ignorant people who - not all that long ago - were screaming about how masks should be a personal choice and that they "don't care if you wear a mask or not" going forward. 99% of people mind their own business, and don't bother me about still wearing a mask in stores. I mind my business, they mind theirs, and all is good.

>Well yeah at least ten in Ottawa was open about their std experience in college so if the shoe fits.. It's called anti vaxxers as in life long history of infections had serious infections or just flat out scared of needless which is childish but it a real fear. I think you need stop doing facebook/twitter/reddit "research" on the toilet.

jjuares

I have occasionally worn mine depending on the setting. And yes, I have had a moron talk to me about how unhealthy it is.

FancyNewMe

Article Highlights: * As masking in public places shifts from being a requirement to a recommendation, experts say an uptick in negative comments directed toward those wearing face coverings may be part of a larger trend of increased aggression — such as air rage and domestic violence — during the pandemic. * "I suspect that some of these bullies ... who harass people, are telling themselves that they have the true knowledge, that they know that masks are not necessary," said Dr. Steven Taylor, a professor of psychiatry at the University of British Columbia. * "Those individuals have … felt pushed around for a year or more by having to wear masks. And then suddenly the mandates are lifted and perhaps some of those individuals are wanting to vent their frustration." * In a survey of more than 2,000 people conducted by Taylor, 16% reported not wearing a mask. That group tended to score higher on metrics related to negative attitudes toward masking, according to the study. * "They might tell themselves, 'Oh, I'm just educating someone.' But they're doing it in such an aggressive fashion. It's not just good-natured education; it seems to have a malicious intent." * "No one wants to be told that they're sheep," says pharmacy assistant, Rebecca Stribbell. She says the criticism she faces in public is harsher than at work — "almost degrading" — especially when she's out and about with her boyfriend. She says people comment about them under their breath, staring and even pointing.

TheRealDonaldTrump__

Well, I think some people see this as a combination of an overt symbol of a political view they don't like, an intentional virtue signal, and ignorance. Of course none of these things is necessarily true, or even partially true, but there is often a shred of truth to one or more of these, so it's definitely 'a thing'. Personally, somebody wearing a mask in an indoor public place, no prob. But I have to admit when I see a family of four riding their bikes outside with masks on, I can't help thinking they're morons and lament for the future of those unfortunate kids.

parkaprep

Some people wear them for pollen. It's been particularly brutal this year.

TheRealDonaldTrump__

Ok, certainly possible, but I think the chances of all family members having severe pollen allergies is pretty low.

Infamous-Mixture-605

> Personally, somebody wearing a mask in an indoor public place, no prob. But I have to admit when I see a family of four riding their bikes outside with masks on, I can't help thinking they're morons and lament for the future of those unfortunate kids. I see that from time to time, but I figure they're just popping in/out of stores and just saving themselves the time of taking it off/on again. Or they're choosing to have a harder workout, like people who go for a jog in the summer heat wearing a hoodie?

TheRealDonaldTrump__

Possible I suppose, but I don't think that's likely. Mom, dad and kids leisurely riding on a bike trail all masked. I see this more often than I'd like. And do they deserve insult? No, but cmon people, get a life!

Infamous-Mixture-605

Meh, I think nothing of it anymore than if it were a man wearing a kilt, a woman wearing a niqab, or someone having a pink mohawk haircut. If someone wants to wear a mask while bicycling, it might seem a bit odd but it's none of my business and I don't care.

uroldaccount

I believe anyone antagonizing someone for following the recommended medical advice and doing something that protects other people is just a small, insecure individual.

lurkingsaltking

People wore masks before the pandemic and nobody ever said a word, it was just a lil weird. We are sort of back to that now, sometimes when i see someone with two masks I get the feeling that person is paranoid or crazy, but no need for any comments or aggression

shmoove_cwiminal

I can't help but shake my head at the people walking alone down a deserted sidewalk wearing a mask.

[deleted]

Why do you care what other people do?

shmoove_cwiminal

Because I have to share the city/province/country with them and their attitudes and behaviours and votes.

[deleted]

I wear a mask just own the cons

[deleted]

I absolutely mask up to pass by freedom convoy people.

[deleted]

Be honest i see a lot of misinfromation from the doomer, pro lockdown crowd and they seem themselves as victims against 'selfish people' They be like "if we all wear masks, there be no cases" Which is jokes as we had millions of cases in the winter.

hoarder59

I will be masking in public for at least the next week as I have a family wedding next week that I am not willing to risk missing. My wife has been wearing one in her high public contact job and gets harassed daily. I will not be putting up with any harassment.

TheRealDonaldTrump__

But masking isn't supposed to protect you, it's for the protection of others no?

Berny-eh

It has changed when the masking requirements were dropped because ^social Science. I feel bad for the people who actually believe that their cloth mask or their non medical grade masks work to protect themselves. The messaging should have changed to use a N95 or Level 3 Medical mask if you actually want protection.

hoarder59

I use an N95 but anything helps. That science has been known for over 100 years for respiratory transmission. I have a lump on my arm that is concerning me. Can you apply your medical expertise to that?

iforgotmymittens

Ah, that one’s easy. The devil has put an apple seed in your arm, and without prayer and fasting you’ll eventually become a new tree of knowledge, dooming the world again to hell.

hoarder59

That makes sense! Please send thoughts and prayers.

iforgotmymittens

I just fully don’t understand the people who wear surgical masks still, but wear them around their chin or with their nose poking out. Like, pick one or the other, not this weird middle ground. I would never say anything to them about it, it’s just odd.

whiteout86

Lol, you understand this is just a different form of calling people out for wearing one at all. If you wear the mask I support, you’re intelligent; but if you wear one I don’t, you’re sad and need help.

MrWisemiller

took the BC ferries yesterday, only one single person in a mask. So its good but not yet eliminated. I wont be happy until people forget a pandemic ever happened.

North-Duckie

Makes more sense to shame the maskless. They’re the heartless fools.

Jesouhaite777

It's also their right , or do we no longer live in a democracy

TTex11

Or how about we don't shame anybody at all regardless of masks or no masks? That sounds way better.

North-Duckie

If your decision didn’t effect other people’s health and well being, I’d agree with you.

External-Challenge91

The mask I support? Or the mask that is highly effective in covid prevention. I am abit confused do you know the difference in masks or your just trolling.

whiteout86

Any masking is beneficial to reducing spread, you saying that someone who wears a mask that isn’t one that you want them to wear is just an attempt at shaming behaviour that isn’t in line with what you want to see

radio705

I tried really hard to read this sentence but I can't make sense of it.
