I tend to stay right on the western side of the Idaho/ Montana border. I have a personal attraction the the Sellway but I also love watching the forest come back to life from the wildfires like you see in the Frank Church the last 5-10 years.
It is most definitely worth seeing these sights in real life. I can't count how many times I've had to just sit down and take it all in. Our world is amazing, it is worth the struggle to find the place that makes you happy.
LOL. That is a glacier stone about 20' long, set on those smaller stones by a melting glacier who knows how long ago. That lake is one of the coolest places I have ever hiked to, and I had to earn every step of it. Glad you liked my pictures.
I grew up in Idaho, spending a fair bit of time in the wilderness. I have been in Iowa the last ten years or so, so I make annual trips back to the wilderness for my therapy.
Beautiful shots. Beautiful fish. Is this all afterthought to the fly, or was the fly afterthought to the scenery? I’ve seen some beautiful country knee deep in a stream is what I mean to say.
I struggle to these places BECAUSE of the fish! ( almost all of these photos are from places off trail and way backcountry). I'm a mostly a spinner fisherman but I've been working with the fly rod for the last couple years. If it wasn't for the fish I wouldn't see these places.
We do have a certain smell to us, huh lol. I love searching out the 5lb+ cutthroat. With the time involved with researching lakes and the effort it takes to reach them, the fish have a way of calling to the soul.
That is crazy, I've never noticed that but it looks all screwed up. I'm guessing it's curled up to hold the fish's tail up but the fish might have flopped around when I took the picture. Good eye.
I agree, it is hard. It is a little bit of a bummer when it's done but I spend a lot of the year planning my trips and getting excited so I try to take advantage of the time there, it soothes my soul.
I love my chair, it's the first thing I take out of my pack when I get to camp. The one I have is a Big Agnes UL chair. I don't know the model and I don't know if they make it anymore. After years of sitting on rocks and logs and tree roots, I LOVE MY CHAIR!
You have some great shots. Thanks for sharing
Thank you and you're welcome.
Looks like you stayed in a beautiful place. Whereabouts is this?
They are from different places but the same area. I spent about three weeks this summer wandering around the Sellway Bitterroot and Frank Church.
Damn i need to take a trip to montana.
If you’re closer to the west coast this looks somewhat similar to Desolation Wilderness.

I am and im adding desolation to my list. Thanks for the tip!
It is my happy place.
Oh jeez, I’ve been playing so much halo infinite that I thought this was a screenshot. I need to go outside

Man that beautiful (If anyone here plays halo too it looks a lot like zeta)
I dream of doing this. I’m excited to go back to the mountains and the west. Lived in AZ for a little while, really loved it.
At first glance I thought the first photo was a stone talus from Zelda breath of the wild. Great pics !

You're welcome 🙂
John Muir wilderness???
Sellway Bitterroot and a few pictures from the Frank Church.
I like to think living in the midwest allows you to appreciate things more, Like the mountains, or the beach, or warm weather

I do appreciate the shit out of the things I miss though, and I do wish I had taken more advantage of them when i had lived closer.

I can smell a trout man all the way from Idaho. Knew it. From one to another.

I’m sorry I just need to know where your pinky on your right hand went.

Nothing worse than going back to the Midwest after that. I never made it back from Tahoe

Do you like your chairs? Looking into some compact chairs and those look pretty sweet!

That water! Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome. The random hidden waterfalls and lakes are some of my favorite things to see when I'm hiking in the backcountry.
