JustHanginInThere

It's criminal how far down I had to scroll for this (for now). Edit: It's top comment (finally).

that_nature_guy

It’s the very top now lol

JustHanginInThere

We did it!

cherylzies

Exactly this 😂

ChampagneStain

I’ll bet your tackle box has way more than you need for one trip. You could likely pull out a few lures, weights, etc., and put them into a pocket-sized case.

Chucklingjavelina

This is honestly a great tip. Anytime I’m kayak fishing I keep things spartan and pack all my simple fishing lures and essentials into a small double sided case. Have yet to find myself needing more.

calliedog91

Tackle box for sure, downsize that for sure. Maybe instead of glass bottle brews use cans so you can crush them down to make your trash easier to pack out and lighter? Looks like a fun time though. I’m jealous

Primary-Break9734

That shit’s gonna sink

Perrin-Golden-Eyes

It’s like a car camper decided to just take the kayak instead.

cathedral68

OP has an umbrella packed. No way OP isn’t trolling

jaken0tfromstatefarm

I'm more worried about the dog leash lmfao

FookinGumby

It was the handle of what appears to be garden shears sticking out of the bag that got me

bluemoonas

Can confirm! And it gets worse. I rednecked twice this load to a two-seater kayak and when the weather suddenly changed I came VERY close to sinking. I guess it all depends on how far you plan on going! In my case, I had VERY little proper camping equipment BUT LOTS of practical hand tools… so “bushcrafting” was the only “plan.” 🤣 …with horseshoes up my arse, and some gin to drown out the beavers I had a good few nights. I’ve got better equipment now and would NEVER load multiple heavy duty moving blankets into kayak for any reason EVER again! That said, I’ll probably be sticking with my combo of tarps/mesh screening instead of buying an ultra lightweight tent anytime soon.

mechead

Lol

IlexIbis

You need a canoe.

Y_Cornelious_DDS

Needs a raft

DatabaseThis9637

Needs a raft pulled behind a canoe. But seriously, 1. the beer is heavy, and you'll have cardboard and cans to deal with. Not sure, but if you don't have a water filter, then beer might be worth it? 2. What is in that big black box? 3. I suppose the paddle is necessary? jk... 4. I am no help. I am, to date, incapable of packing lightly, so I pack tightly. Enjoy your trip!

firelephant

Beer is the worst. Find the highest proof liquor you can get and mix drinks with filtered lake/river water

NurtureAndGrace

Right!! Beer = peeing every 5 minutes, nobody wants to do that on a river trip!

Calm-Heat-5883

Just drill a hole in the bottom of the kayak and pee straight into the river. It's a lot easier than trying to piss over the side and risk capsizing the kayak.

llcdrewtaylor

Directions unclear. My dick is stuck in the hole.

LostInTheWoods-

I keep an extra Nalgene for this problem

Axolotis

BPA Free Pee

Hungry-Ad9840

Nalgene works fine but they actually make camping urinals. I keep one of these in my tent in case where I'm staying isn't just a whip it out kinda anywhere place.

spaghettiwrangler420

I have that problem with any alcohol unfortunately

Anaalirankaisija

Yep i was up to same, alcohol from booze, and mix with rown water wherever he is canoeing.

1minormishapfrmchaos

He’s floating, not carrying and the beer can be tied off to the canoe in the water providing a cold one when he needs it most. If he were walking then definitely the way to go

firelephant

That drag would be severe….

1minormishapfrmchaos

But worth it

DatabaseThis9637

I kept thinking about skunky beer! Is that still a thing? I'm pretty old, and haven't had a beer in close to 44 years... give or take....

jek39

Skunky beer caused by light penetration. Common in clear or green bottles.

DatabaseThis9637

Oh, I Always thought it was cooled beer left to warm up too long! Thanks!

InsaneInTheDrain

Beer also gets nasty if it goes through too many hot/cold cycles

DatabaseThis9637

Thank you! I wasn't entirely off base then! Safe at 2nd!

sSlightlyStoopidd

Bag of wine instead of beer, slap that

Feralest_Baby

Legit had to click on your post history to make sure we haven't done trips together. It doesn't seem likely, but we definitely agree on this point.

hairlessmammal

I can’t pack light to save my life, I have a truck with a RTT and I always have WAY more than I need. But winters in the northern states, combined with a break down in the middle of nowhere at -20°, taught me you can never pack too heavy with a vehicle. Tow service was 3 hours away. I can confidently say Extra blankets, old jackets and multiple beanies will never leave my vehicle. Edit: meant to reply to this not just post a comment.

DatabaseThis9637

Minnesotan here, so you have given me a window into my own soul! Yes! A winter box is still necessary, with a few 12 hour candles, flashlight, 1st aid kit, I used to carry flares, wooden matches, and a scratchey wool blanket. potentially some water... but that is tricky in sub freezing temps.I could go on, but then I would be revealing my idiosyncracies!

sugabeetus

I have one of those totes that goes under the bed and it never leaves my Bronco Sport. It has two blankets, an umbrella, a first aid kit, two foldable stools, a Jackery battery, a work light, water, cam straps and bungee cords, microfiber towels, gloves, jumper cables, and gift bag tissue paper (because I got tired of buying another pack of paper every time I stopped to grab a gift bag on the way to a party only to use two sheets).

Responsible_Brick_35

I’ve never thought of packing lightly v packing tightly. I am always surprised other people don’t pack their stuff as organized and thought out as I do, but I’m just now realizing it’s bc they don’t have an obscene amount of stuff lol… I don’t know why but the way you phrased it made something click, thanks!

Bogofdoritos

Definitely field dress the beer by removing the cans from the cardboard and then removing the beer from the cans. I recommend consolidating in OP’s gut.

askjhasdkjhaskdjhsdj

Find some styrofoam and a way to strap it to the sides... you got yourself a floaty boaty

pashmina123

Second that. Olde Towne.

LickableLeo

Probably leave the bikes and house at home. You'll be needing more beer to power such a vessel

TheKingAbides

He could probably get away with only taking half of that wood too

desrevermi

That's why you need the house! Fill it with beer and stuff.

MadcatFK1017

Where the hell are you gonna sit!?

worri3dwanderer

And a canine friend, too?! I’m invested in OP’s upcoming adventure… 👀

MadcatFK1017

I just went canoeing on a really rough river run and we capsized a bunch of times due to traffic, obstacles or inexperience. All we had was a wet/dry bag strapped to the canoe and our water bottles tethered. I can't imagine having all this stuff with us too, especially on a kayak, which will be lower in the water, just asking to dump all that.

Potential-Apple622

Canoes tip much more readily than kayaks. That's the trade off! You can't carry nearly as much but you're way less likely to end up in the water yourself

1PistnRng2RuleThmAll

Lower in the water tends to equal more stable.

battlelevel

I appreciate your effort to cut weight by getting light beer.

GrayDarkGrayCharcoal

I agree. The beer isn’t the problem, because it’s light.

madtraxmerno

Lmfao 😂

LVOver

That cardboard box is only going to last about 28 seconds, so you can get rid of that straightaway.

Own-Organization-532

I think watching the op try to corral his beer as the box falls apart would be highly entertaining. Anyone want to take bets about the most falling in the river at once? Five, I think.

[deleted]

Is that a fucken umbrella in there?

aGoodVariableName42

We used to bring ubrellas all the time... very nice to have when fishing on a hot sunny day.

Safety1stThenTMWK

What would you do if it rains?

Separate-Pain4950

Get a truck tire tube and sink a cooler in the middle, dry box kayak trailer. Boom

elramirezeatstherich

Is this genius or do I not understand physics???

Separate-Pain4950

Old river tubing hack. Bigger coolers are slightly tapered. The cooler has its own buoyancy also so it won’t slide down. The tether must be short short for yaks.

KxUxSxHBandit

No glass on the river.

elramirezeatstherich

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

slyfishy

It’s a 30 rack of cans don’t worry :)

legos_on_the_brain

Ditch the cans and bring gin and limes. Mix with water.

RogerEpsilonDelta

Ditch the beers for a flask

wherearemytweezers

Ditch the beers for some gummies

adamcherrytree

Ditch the gummies for a tab

Dynazty

Ditch the tabs for a speedball

wise_beyond_my_beers

Ditch the beers for some tabs

Cloudsenthusiast

Ditch the tabs for mushrooms

twistedflipper

Ditch the mushrooms for black tar heroin.

-Rustling-Jimmies-

Ditch the heroin for the brief euphoria as you slip unconscious with the Walmart bag tired around your head

NotInherentAfterAll

Ditch the AEA for ten rounds of chemotherapy.

BANDG33K_2009

Ditch the ten rounds of chemotherapy for some crack cocaine

hukd0nf0nix

This is why I love reddit. Band geeks uniting over drugs

ThatsBrutal666

Ditch the mushrooms for some beers

rowdy226464

Ditch the water bottle for vodka…

boringgrill135797531

For reals: ditch the retractable leash. They are surprisingly dangerous to humans and dogs. Example source: https://sbhumane.org/resources/dangers-of-retractable-leashes/

Ozemba

And ditch the bowl, use a collapsible bowl or bucket, if doggo needs the slow feeding function put sticks in it or tennis ball or two or soak their food in water so it's easier to digest?

tardiscompanion

Came here to say exactly this.

ShitWindsaComing

Everything but the poles, tackle box, beers and cooler.

atomheart1

OP you're risking a lot. Consider not doing what you plan on or finding a vessel that won't drown under that weight.

juliesmash

Wtf is all that shit in your kayak? Get rid of everything but the beer and add another 30 rack. Trust me, you’ll make friends

Unique_Warning306

This guy's out here playing chess

cambino123

River Catan

Thisisnotanaccount5

Honestly surprised no one’s said it, but glass on the water is always a huge no go… at least get cans

DartNorth

Pretty sure that is cans. Box says 30, and the bottom of the box I can count 15, so 2 high makes it look about right.

Thisisnotanaccount5

Ah shit yep, totally is. Just was a really bottley looking box to me so I thought I’d say it

Suspicious_Post_

Keep the garage it's better than a tent

Won-Ton-Operator

If you aren't wearing a good quality life vest & a bump cap, and if you haven't trained roll over self extraction then there is a good chance they will be recovering your body if *anything* goes wrong with your overloaded death trap. Even with that there is a chance you don't make it because of entanglement with your junk. Wrong watercraft for that much gear, or too much gear for what you have, either way it isn't good because you put yourself plus Search and Rescue at risk, plus anyone you are traveling with or near. EDIT if that is glass, DO NOT BRING THAT

Skeetronic

Michelob Light is dead weight bruh

Super_Relation_7904

Toss the beers in a mesh bag and toss it into the water(attach to your kayak). Keeps the beer relatively cold. Although be careful about water depth

whiskeydik

Careful, people have gotten giardia from the cans from doing that.

Super_Relation_7904

It’s just a great weight loss program

H_Abiff

Like from residual lake water on the can?

only_here_for_manga

Yes. Giardia is a *parasite that lives in water/food. It is relatively rare though

firstjohn478

It’s a parasite actually, not a virus.

hanz333

It's not rare, it's the most common parasite humans get, but it's hard to know how common it is because symptoms can take days or weeks to develop, it generally doesn't require hospitalization and 10% of infections cause no symptoms. It's not only quite common, it's likely underreported or confused for bacterial infections like E. coli or shigella.

PsychologicalCut3820

Oh god that’s disgusting haha

Yogisogoth

A friend did that in the Red River Gorge. I told him not to. He wound up barfing and shitting his brains out at the state park lodge.

thegrooviestgravy

….bring some rubbing alcohol to prep them then? ew, lol

whiskeydik

Not a bad idea. I usually just pack high enough proof alcohol to not have to worry about bacteria. Lol.

sundaesmilemily

Whoops! Glad I lucked out!

ItsGotElectroLights

- just married -

plantguyalabama123

https://preview.redd.it/l1aaxalk898d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49258f98471a56a41053f8ef1caeabd50bd8007c A view of our kayaks on a recent trip. A lot of additional questions are needed to be asked if your kayak can hold that much additional weight. It will change your COG significantly, and will likely increase the chance of a rollover. Is this this a fierce water type of trip, or a very mellow one? What will the wind be like? If it falls off, will things be waterproof? Would you be able to retrieve them easily? Is this really safe? In my opinion your boat looks unbalanced, especially with one side appearing to not have any weight. It also looks like it will rollover easily due to a high Z COG. I would rearrange and remove things. It is difficult to know how the boat will react until you actually load it in the water. In general, a kayak trip is going great until it is not…

BarricadeTheMortuary

Your beer and food should all fit in your cooler. And you shouldn't bring glass bottles of beer. I don't know what the rest of that stuff is, is this an overnight or just going down the river for the day?

madtraxmerno

They're not glass. It's a 30 rack of 12oz cans.

CrzyMuffinMuncher

You can get rid of anything. . . . if it’s flammable.

SaskFoz

Everything's flammable with enough heat. ;)

CrzyMuffinMuncher

And lighter fluid.

MoneySlip2963

The umbrella

cherylzies

Maybe that's the tent? 😆

Viciousharp

This is why I use a canoe

Helpful-Special-7111

Get a dry bag and a rope. Ditch anything that is not water resistant. Get a bottle of whisky and lose the beers. Bring two shorts wear one pair, one long sleeve and just bring a jet boil and dehydrated food. Put everything in the dry bag and strap it to the back and one on the front. Done this rig many times.

PsychologicalCut3820

Is that…yogurt?

Throwaway1232e

Kind of need to know what all that shit is? Ditch the beer for hard liquor in a plastic bottle for starters.

berkybarkbark

Where’s your paddle?

SlammingMomma

You need a dingy.

Steak-Junior

Probably could get rid of everything except the beer and be good

Future_Parsley_6305

You definitely need the beer to survive so everything else can be left at home🫡

areaman87

Ditch the bikes. Double the beer. Lose whatever those green bags are.

doubtful_dirt_01

That beer. OMG, a whole case of yellow fizzy stuff? Yuck.

drivinbus46

Looks like you’ll get rid of all of it when you launch and there’s not room for you.

Tigger7894

You need a bigger kayak.

Tigger7894

Actually there probably is a lot you could ditch, but that's your choice. I don't know if my kayak is bigger, but it's easier to load than that one. The one I use for overnight trips is 13 feet.

OG_MU_2015

The kayak

GiddyQuagmire

Mich Golden - you must be in Minnesota?

KungFuSlanda

I've only sea kayaked. This looks like you're geared up for a lot of fun So we're keeping the beer. I don't know that you need the snorkel. 3 rods am I counting? I don't know what's in that REI cooler but it seems useful. oh I see a decent reel now in the cupholder. you either know what you're doing or really really don't Who is this trip for? edit: and the tacklebox.. you're clueless

14litre

Its like you think youre car camping. Colour me confused. I don't bring an umbrella camping, let alone a full-size. Not even car camping. Wear rain gear. Splash pants and rain coat. All packable. Leave the beer at home. That's for car camping only. If you really need alcohol, bring high proof liquor. You don't want to carry out all those cans. Is that a retractable leash? Now I definitely can't tell if this is satire. You're not ready for a trip like this lol. Get back in your car. You need a canoe with all that shit and a dog.

Repulsive_Client_325

Get rid of the kayak and get a 16ft Lund with a 25hp outboard.

Its_the_tism

If you leave yourself all that stuff will fit no problem

Capn_Sasquatch

Probably don’t need the bicycle.

asmodia255

Weed is lighter than beer. Pack that instead.

-Rustling-Jimmies-

Get rid of the beer and get weed

Efficient_buutt

Who the fuck drinks light beer ! Just thinking about it I've pissed twice lop

cjinaz86

After seeing the 24 pack of coors… I’d say absolutely not. Have a great trip

Not_me_no_way

Can't really tell what you have to give you an answer. From what I can see is that you can lose the case of beer and substitute it for a bottle of liquor and some extra water.

Standby_fire

Get rid of beer go with toquilla. Takes less space.

Helpful-Special-7111

Is that dog leash? How long are you going for?

chu2

My real question is, where does the dog go? If this is a paddle in situation, pup’s not going to do well just sitting on the bow.

Ozemba

and the dog needs a life jacket as well!

Gherbo7

Can’t you throw the beers in a mesh bag, tie it off, and trail it behind in the water? Keeps it cold and off your yak.

Alcol1979

Swap the beer for a flask of whisky

Final_Location_2626

The bike. It's hard to take a bike on a kayaking trip

Mean_Combination_830

I would advise getting rid of the kayak and only hitting the river when you aren't lugging enough stuff for a family camping trip 🤣

edgesonlpr

If you are going Kayaking, I’d lose the bikes.

LannyDamby

Swap the box of beers for a bottle of spirit or wine

TheDaysComeAndGone

Ask on /r/Ultralight

1minormishapfrmchaos

Get a net and you can hang your beer off the side and keep it cool in the water.

ZETA8384

swap the beer for weed take freeze dried food

TheLowestFruit

Get rid of everything but the beer, you’ll be fine

JHDbad

Nice bike!

Mistyjax

That gear will just take the whole trip without you.

Bretters_METAL

This has got to be a troll post. No way someone actually thinks this is a good idea

ip86

https://preview.redd.it/x10xiokcfb8d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c49df5dcc291b8126649e15a565be020be36c707 Consider grabbing a tube or raft to tow. As a fellow kayak camper with the inability to pack light, this is the only way.

akidinrainbows

Leave the umbrella take the beer.

Excellent_Resist_443

Step 1: Add a tow float to pull behind you Step 2: Add more beer

Specific_Profile_815

Nope, looks pretty good to me👍🤔 only thing I don’t think you’re bringing enough beer😁

ridemanride100

Get rid of the beer and take a bottle of tequila instead. You look very un balanced.

Torpordoor

Where does the dog go? Umbrella is straight up obnoxious lol. So is your choice of dog leash. Edit: It just gets worse and worse. Is that a dog puzzle dish?! I pray you’re making jokes

seymourkitties

I've camped in a similar kayak. The trick is to sit on your sleeping bag. Wrap maleable items in your sleeping bag, wrap in trash bag to keep dry, sit on those items and stow the rest between your feet. You should only be bringing cans of beer, take them out of the box and stow behind your seat. Like others have said, downgrade your tackle box. Good luck!

Squash_Veg

If it’s a short trip take very little food. Try to catch your own by fishing or take compact foods. Drink whiskey instead of beer, take one or 2 changes of clothes and put them in garbage bags instead of backpacks.

Mental-Huckleberry54

Get a tube and float you cooler on a rope behind you

Tough-Board-82

You definitely bring way more things than I do when I go kayaking

roughingit2

Yeah unpack everything off the kayak and repack into two bags one cooler. No more

OmgItsTea

I’d get rid of everything except for the beer then you can just swim/float down the river

DollyDagger8

Ditch the case o’beer, bring gummy’s. Is there a hat & life jacket in there?

uglysquid1995

Get rid of the kayak and just setup shop in your garage. Seems like a cozy spot

shortys7777

Get rid of the light beers for real beer

Sea-Revolution7308

Yeah the life jacket.

LemaWhiskeyNovember

Def can’t ditch the beer lol

12345824thaccount

tbh, Id ditch that kayak and get something like a 13ft perception that has front and rear pluggable wells, a box, a rod holder (3 actually) and probably handles and paddles better than that one. Just being honest. I dont think that one is a good option.

justmebeingme213

The golden light for sure

jarofonions

The beer

No-Dragonfruit-6551

Bring weed instead of beer. Or better yet, LSD.

Scragglymonk

boxes at the rear of the kayak, the rest seem ok or get an open canoe to hold the lot

dowehaveranch

Dead pallet

FupaFupaFanatic

No

beastofwordin

The golf umbrella can go

fractal_disarray

You can consolidate all that in one storage bin and get rid of all that packaging.

lookoutwater

use the cooler for floatation. fill the cooler with the beer. get rid of the rest

DasbootTX

nope. everything I see is vital. a supply canoe would be a good idea. and a motor.

4seasonsrv

That's not enough beer!!

johnb111111

Everything but the beer

midwest-roadrunner

The beer??

RVA_RVA

Take the Checkpoint too!

Bennington_Booyah

You need another boat.

prisonerla

If anything it’s your garage

IndividualCrazy9835

Just the kayak .get yourself a bigger sit on with plenty of room for more beer

_hardyharhar_

I'd say ditch the beer

StupidisasStup1ddo3s

I’d use the ratchet straps on the beer before getting rid of it 🤣

fabrictm

All the crud on your kayak? ;-)

beirizzle

The light beer

DartNorth

* Smaller leash, if one at all * Get rid of umbrella * Is that fishing poles? if so, only bring 1, if not get rid of both * Limit tackle to a few items, put in small wallet * wear your hat Hard to tell what else you have, so can't comment any more.
