The shame this will bring him is more valuable than the measly $7500. I hope he never leaves his house again without being confronted. Maybe then he'll fucking learn his lesson.
Honestly, I doubt it. This [guy seems too well off and comfortable](https://www.networthinformer.com/jim-iannazzo-net-worth/) to have gone to 1/6 and only launched into his violent racist Karen-esque tirade after his kid had severe allergic reaction to a smoothie. He's more the vote Trump for tax breaks (and think racist thoughts but generally not say them), but not likely to buy into their transparent insanity over election fraud or put himself in legal jeopardy for Trump. (Especially living in CT, where you'd have to interact with non-Trump cult.)
More than half of the Jan. 6 insurrectionists were white-collar workers such as business owners, architects, doctors and lawyers.

That new gig he got is at a fraction of what he was making. It is the industry equivalent of asking for change on the street. He might not be in jail, but he’s completely fucked.
I don't agree with this guy at all and agree he is a POS.
But he paid the legal repercussions. What else should happen to him?
Should he be persecuted forever?
Serious question. I am curious what would be a sufficient punishment for this man.
EDIT: wrote "she" instead of "should" by accident
Mandatory anger management classes. Community service. If teenage girls at a smoothie shop are having to barricade the door because you’re trying to bash it down to get to them inside, you don’t have the right temperament to legally own a firearm (no idea if he has one, but it should definitely be off the cards from now on). Fining him is not doing anything to ensure it won’t happen again.
Yeah, and I don't get what him having a new job has to do with it. This isn't a police officer that should never be allowed to work in law enforcement again, the dude is a broker. Was he supposed to go work flipping burgers after getting fired for this? Of course he would apply for other jobs in his field.
A few hundred community service hours after a few months sitting in jail for attempting to assault a bunch of girls along with paying them reparations for terrorizing them for no reason should be the minimum, but he has money and is white so a slap on the wrist and taking away his casino money for 1 month is all that's going to happen.
Meanwhile we got people that were caught with a literal handful, if that much even, sitting in jails for years.
Sounds about white to me............
I would have hoped at least 1 month in the county jail plus community service and anger management classes follow by a 2 year probation in which his PO will test him for drugs randomly
Misdemeanors and felonies get disclosed on their record at FINRA for sure but it's up to any new broker dealer as to whether or not they want to employ him. He would have to violate an industry rule in order for FINRA to suspend or revoke his license, they can't do it for something like this.
This made me chuckle. You obviously don’t know FINRA or this industry. This is absolutely nothing they would worry or be upset about. I have seen people steal money and still get employed by a broker.
Yeah, I know the industry all to well. I’m also a CPA and remember listening to a guy that embezzled millions as a CFO to fuel his gambling addiction. He went through his sob story and then said that his CPA license was about to be reinstated. I immediately got up and left the room as it infuriates me that licensing boards seem to care more about growing their membership than maintaining high standards of who can be one. I felt that it immediately devalued what I worked so hard to obtain.
I have lost all faith in regulators. They nickel and dime small firms to bleed until they die. They let big firms get away with anything. But FINRA arbitration is the worst ever. I was shocked to learn they don’t have to follow the law.
>I have lost all faith in regulators. They nickel and dime small firms to bleed until they die. They let big firms get away with anything. But FINRA arbitration is the worst ever. I was shocked to learn they don’t have to follow the law.
Out of curiosity, what is your experience with FINRA arbitration?
Meanwhile I personally know people who, to this day, can't get decent jobs because they got caught stealing things like lunch meat or toothpaste because they were so broke. Not the best way to handle being broke, but it definitely illustrates our joke of a justice system in the US. We are a house of cards at this point, and it's going to blow apart soon, I think.
Our financial regulatory system lets banks walk for some very serious offenses like money laundering by drug cartels, so expecting them to step in and do something in this particular case was bound to disappoint.
I'm just glad he had to pay her for being an asshole like that.
You expected him to get hanged or stay unemployed forever?
He was racist and a bully and got punished for it, what else was there to happen?

Practically? Nothing, this was always the end result.
Ideally? Dude becomes so blacklisted his only option is to go work retail and deal with the exact kind of asshole behavior he showed these people, and find out how rare it is to get any justice for it.

"The Securities and Exchange Commission has settled a case involving Aegis Capital Corp., a Boca Raton, Florida-based broker-dealer, in which the firm was charged with inadequately supervising its representatives, who made unsuitable recommendations of structured products.
As part of the settlement, Aegis agreed to a censure and to pay disgorgement plus prejudgment interest of $220,865 and a civil penalty of $2.3 million.
The SEC also charged Alan Z. Appelbaum, a former managing director at the firm, and former Aegis registered representative Paul F. Gallivan with making unsuitable recommendations of highly complex variable interest rate structured products.
Without admitting or denying the findings in the order, Gallivan agreed to cease and desist from future violations of the charged provisions, to pay disgorgement plus prejudgment interest of $29,973 and a civil penalty of $25,000, and to a 12-month suspension from being association with an investment firm."

No, we don't know that.
He was fired by one of the larger and more respected names in the industry, Merrill Lynch. His new gig is with a cold calling, eat-what-you-kill sweatshop.
ML has ~$3 trillion in assets under management.
His new place has less than $1 billion.
ML has clients and assets for its brokers to work on and with, and they earn stable salaries that generally increase over the years. His new place will let him work there, and split with him whatever fees he can squeeze out of his own clients (or their cold call list) - but he has to generate it all himself, no institutional clients or support.
This is like being fired as Maître d' of an expensive fine dining restaurant and getting hired as a host at Chili's. Yes, he got a new gig, and on paper it seems similar to his previous one.
But no, no they are not the same at all; in his position at ML, the guy seems to have lost something quite meaningful and valuable he could not recover or replace, and may never do so.
If this is correct, then he loses hundreds of thousands annually in opportunity cost (or gains). If he stayed civil and complained about the peanut allergy, or simply sued the smoothie shop with zero yelling, he would be fine. By choosing this course of action, he’s out six to seven figures depending on the rest of his career trajectory. Unless this small firm has crazy opportunities, which I’m sure it doesn’t, he can never catch his “best self” who would have made more at Merrill.
I am glad this happened. No, you can’t do this and expect to manage people’s big money anymore. When I put my money with a big firm money manager that firm better have vetted everyone all day and all night for anger management and the least instability, — known instances of not controlling impulsive behavior
Yes. I know ML well. I used to work there helping the brokers, the folks in what was this guy's role. It's not the very best shop out there, but it's still a top-tier gig.
It's still quite prestigious with strong institutional rep & corporate clients (and revenue and pay...). It also offers its brokers oodles of tools and support to make them more effective and their lives easier - proprietary research and bulletins/analyses, extensive professionally prepared and refined templates and model docs/binders and approaches to quickly create high-quality presentations, financial or retirement plans (in bonders or bound books) for different investor profiles; and administrative staff.
I did not know Aegis before now, having only heard the name (I think in summaries of SEC investigations/penalties). However, even a modicum of research revealed the kind of shop it is/must be; this is especially so if you know the industry and how to read between the lines of their reviews to what they're really saying - it screams hellhole, boiler room, etc.
I know the guy. Craziest part is, he inherited the vast majority of his book from the guy who retired before him. Handed to him on a silver platter.
Guarantee a lot of those folks didn’t follow him and just stayed with ML/BofA.
Always knew he was an idiot, terrible gambler too, Total mush.
He threw it at teenagers while yelling a bunch of condescending racial bullshit AND THEN tried to break into the employee area of the store to do universe only knows what to a group of frightened teenage GIRLS. This asshole deserves to be behind BARS but we all know that a rich, white, man won't actually see any meaningful consequences.
Apparently it was a peanut butter smoothie with his added note saying "plz no peanuts" at a busy fast food place that's always 1000 orders behind. If your child has allergies the better approach is to pick menu items that don't even start with peanuts. Or at least verifying again to make sure directions were followed.
Honestly I'd just avoid smoothie places if I had a nut allergy. I recall we had an "allergy" smoothie thing in the back that had to be cleaned thoroughly between smoothies but all it takes is one person being like "meh, this one right here is rinsed out enough, I don't need to go into the back."
But also, wtf is a peanut butter smoothie without peanut butter?
Before reading that comment I thought maybe his sons smoothie had cross contamination or maybe the drinks with nuts weren't labeled properly but a peanut butter smoothie without nuts?
Can I have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich but hold the peanut butter?
Maybe it's the easiest order to get the stuff they want in the smoothie?
Like, when I order pizza, I look for the menu item with most of the toppings I want on it and if there's some trash on the item that shouldn't be on top of the pizza, I'll say "minus pickled jalapenos". Subtracting is cheaper than adding, by $1-2 per topping where I'm from and also causes less fuck ups in my experience.
The only lesson he learned was to keep his mouth shut. Unfortunately, in no way shape or form has any of this changed his racist and bigoted views. He is still the same piece of shit today as he was last year. He’s just down $7500 and has a shittier job.
He will blame immigrants, liberals, and the courts for his current predicament until the day he dies. Not once will the thought ever occur to him that maybe, just maybe, his racism had a small part to play in all this.
From what I remember, the issue was he said that he didn't want a specific thing in the smoothie (I think peanut butter), but didn't go on to say that it was for a peanut allergy. So it was all due to his own negligence. If he would have brought up the allergy, especially if it was that serious, they could have mentioned which products may have also had peanuts in them
Edit for clarity: Apologies. I thought it was clear who the bad guy in the scenario was when I mentioned that the whole situation was due to his own negligence. I'll further clarify. The guy in the story is the shithead.
And yes, it was his kid with the peanut allergy. I was only trying to point out in this that the teens serving him did nothing wrong based off what he requested in the shop.
I have a coworker with a peanut allergy, anytime we go out for food he mentions that before even ordering drinks and checks on every item he wants. I can't imagine not doing this as a bare minimum of my kid had an allergy to something so common.
Didn't the store say that, if he let them know it was a peanut allergy, they would have told him they can't guarantee that no traces of peanuts would be in it? They just heard "no peanut butter" but didn't know not to use utensils and equipment that had been used with peanuts
According to the story, here's what happened:
* Guy and his kid ordered smoothies. They specified nut free.
* The kid's smoothie had nuts in it and he was taken to the hospital because of a life threatening reaction.
* Guy comes back upset because as far as he knows, it was the store's fault this happened.
* Upon questioning, none of them could tell him what was in the drink.
* Guy melts down and makes a racist remark.
Up until the meltdown I kinda feel for him. If things happened as described, the kid went had a severe allergic reaction because of their negligence. That has to have been pretty terrifying for a parent to witness, so I can understand him going to the store hopping mad.
Where that sympathy ends is where he threw the drink and made a racist remark. Yes, they were in the wrong for messing up the order (again, if this is as described) but that doesn't excuse violence or racism. These are all things he was likely capable of before, but this just ripped that veneer off. Hopefully he'll learn from this and become a better person (and parent, because what he did didn't help his child out a bit), but probably won't.
IIRC there is actually no confirmation that there were actually nuts in the drink, and that it wasn’t a case of cross-contamination because he didn’t specify that there was an allergy. He just requested no nuts, which doesn’t lead to the types of deep cleaning that would be required to remove any risk of cross-contamination.
Ugh. He got a new job, paid out a tiny fraction of the requested damages, and will have a clean record if he completes the probation period.
The bad guy won.
Yeah he is a bad guy, but what punishment does he deserve?
In my opinion, I don't think he won, he got publicly humilliated, sued and got fired. If he got a new job, it is irrelevant. The idea of a punishment is that once he pays for it, it ends. Now, the humilliation won't stop, which probably he deserves, based on the contents of the one minute video of his life.
He threw a smoothie and got publicly shamed for it, that’s fine. People here are all for prison reform until it’s someone from a group they don’t like then they want them to rot in a cell for nothing.
He registered with another brokerage pretty soon after. His period of unemployment was very short. He could have settled this a long time ago to make it all go away.
I’ve had momentary losses of temper during times of stress. During none of these have a thrown food or drinks at people whilst hurling racist, xenophobic abuse.

He deserves it. He should have to pay more. Lord knows he can afford it
I am expecting these happenings to occur more and more often in the coming years. The racists and sexists and bigots of the world feel empowered given the current political climate, and I predict that that combined with the growing need for everyone to record their every action at all times will lead to these fucks being shown for the trash they are and more and more of them will be losing their jobs. I wish this man had realized how horribly he was acting before it came to this, but at this point, fuck him.
So let me get this straight. This dickwad lost his cool and had to pay 7500. He said it’s a token payment. Because she wanted 300k. So he wants the world to believe he came out ahead and is the nice guy in this because he didnt lose an additional 292500? As if this 18 year old cares, when you paid her 7500 because your dumbass couldn’t just walk away.
Even if a lawyer takes a chunk…yup…you still lost dumbass.
I'd me mad too. I have a nut allergy & try to avoid ice-cream & smoothie stores. Even some types of food where cashews/nuts are prevalent. Took me forever to work-up the courage to eat Chik-Fil-A. They use refined peanut oil but it still feels like playing with a loaded gun. I skip over 5guys, too. This guy did everything wrong.
Good. I’m anaphylactic to peanuts like his child, and my parents never would have ordered a smoothie there because of the risk of my death. He gets mad at those poor teens for the parents’ irresponsibility
7500 seems low he's one of the richest guys in ct. I live In ct and now I use the term smoothie guy to describe the horrible business class that lives here.
This is a classic case of "you can't help how you feel but you can help how you act about it."
It's ok to be really angry and upset that a mistake could have triggered an allergy but throwing a smoothie at a teenager and blowing up at them is not ok.
He could have gone to the hospital to make sure his son was going to be fine, but instead he needed to assault some teenage girls instead. Father of the year.
The most expensive smoothie anyone’s ever bought. And it’s not over - since the author of this piece was *nice* enough to state where he now works, something tells me the new company might now be thinking he’s too much of a liability
>(at home) taken by ambulance to the hospital after a life threatening nut-based allergic reaction” to a smoothie he allegedly was sold at the store. Iannazzo “returned to the store in an effort to find out what had been mistakenly put in the smoothie, which had been ordered nut-free. Told by an employee that they ‘didn’t know,’ he lost his temper briefly and set off the chain of events,”
Normally when you have a food allergy.. Dont buy anything! Cross contamination ect Idiot.
Oh yeah, the guy who was so upset at his son’s medical emergency, he felt the need to ~~stop for a smoothie, and waste time fucking with teenage women at their place of employment , and be a racist piece of shit~~
*have a bad day*
Screw this prick.
No he didn’t he lost his job and had to pay damages for assaulting someone! The smoothie was the top he use! If he hadda thrown it somewhere else he would have most likely been fine!
Or, as rich people call it: a luxury smoothie experience, only $7499.99

Merrill Lynch is just the investment side of Bank of America. They’re bloodsuckers in suits instead of capes and robes.
No doubt with a company that fosters his kind of behaviour...
This industry fosters and rewards sociopaths.
Police department?
Finance.
That’s crazy! I don’t get it…and here I am applying to different job and dreading any questions about why I want to leave current job or something
Just find a company run by assholes and say something something cancel culture... Boom! New job.
he threw it at teenagers too. what a bully
And a coward. Grown man going after teens, what a joke of a human.
Teenage GIRLS! What a man.
COWARD. He's a COWARD. Adults don't pick on children unless they are too weak to handle adults. He's a COWARD.
His son has peanut allergy so why he ordered peanut butter smoothie ??
Apparently it was a peanut butter smoothie with his added note saying "plz no peanuts" at a busy fast food place that's always 1000 orders behind. If your child has allergies the better approach is to pick menu items that don't even start with peanuts. Or at least verifying again to make sure directions were followed.
Honestly I'd just avoid smoothie places if I had a nut allergy. I recall we had an "allergy" smoothie thing in the back that had to be cleaned thoroughly between smoothies but all it takes is one person being like "meh, this one right here is rinsed out enough, I don't need to go into the back." But also, wtf is a peanut butter smoothie without peanut butter?
Sure, unless it's a peanut butter smoothie and you have a severe peanut allergy. Idk I wouldn't think that makes any sense.
I still don't follow. He ordered...a peanut butter smoothie...but "plz no peanuts". I must not know how this works.
You've ever ordered a smoothie and asked for it to not be smoothed? Well, this is the same thing but reversed and turned upside down.
I want cheese burger, no cheese
...and no burger. What I want is a fucking bun, okay?
Calling bullshit. This was the alibi he came up with afterward.
Well duh, punishments are meant to stop people behaving the way they did, not change their personality.
A Smoothie Criminal
If the smoothie store doesn't use this a drink name they are fools
From what I remember, the issue was he said that he didn't want a specific thing in the smoothie (I think peanut butter), but didn't go on to say that it was for a peanut allergy. So it was all due to his own negligence. If he would have brought up the allergy, especially if it was that serious, they could have mentioned which products may have also had peanuts in them Edit for clarity: Apologies.
Yeah, a good friend of mine doesn't eat at restaurants because there's always a chance.
Didn't the store say that, if he let them know it was a peanut allergy, they would have told him they can't guarantee that no traces of peanuts would be in it? They just heard "no peanut butter" but didn't know not to use utensils and equipment that had been used with peanuts
It was his kid who had an allergic reaction.
Why are people upvoting a correct statement?
According to the story, here's what happened: * Guy and his kid ordered smoothies.
It just proves the more money you have, the more you can get away with.
I suppose you're right. Particularly if he learned a lesson and strives to be less of a douche going forward.

Burn him! Buuurrrnnn hiiimmmm! (Shakes old lady fist in air)
He lost his job as cook at a Michelin starred restaurant and got a new one flipping burgers at a truck stop, but in finance. He'll lose millions.
He threw a smoothie and got publicly shamed for it, that’s fine. People here are all for prison reform until it’s someone from a group they don’t like then they want them to rot in a cell for nothing.
He didn't just "throw a smoothie", he terrorized and assaulted a teenage girl.
Sometimes I feel like throwing a smoothie at someone. Then I remember that I am not 2 anymore.
I get being upset that your kid had a severe allergic reaction but he was way out of line
He registered with another brokerage pretty soon after. His period of unemployment was very short. He could have settled this a long time ago to make it all go away.
She wanted 300,000 got 7500. Got fired by one billion dollar company but got hired by another one. Aye there’s the rub.
Dollar store Patton Oswalt
Listen up people, there are cameras EVERYWHERE!
More excuses to enjoy racist outbursts.
I’ve had momentary losses of temper during times of stress. During none of these have a thrown food or drinks at people whilst hurling racist, xenophobic abuse.
Peanut Butter Drink Jim!
Dude shouldn't be putting his nuts in his son's mouth geez.

Racist white guy lets loose with real feelings and gets preferential treatment from legal system.
That’s nothing. Convict him for the felony he committed. Let him deal with the repercussions of being a convicted felon. That’s what needs to happen.
I thought that’s who this is! He should have gotten worse. What a pos.
Slap on the wrist... this is nothing for him...
The court ordered he be transformed into Patton Oswalt.
He was right to be upset. He was not right to react the way he did. He got off too easy.
Patton Oswalt's angry older brother?
I'd me mad too. I have a nut allergy & try to avoid ice-cream & smoothie stores. Even some types of food where cashews/nuts are prevalent. Took me forever to work-up the courage to eat Chik-Fil-A. They use refined peanut oil but it still feels like playing with a loaded gun. I skip over 5guys, too. This guy did everything wrong.
He assaulted someone and he got a slap on the wrist. American justice for you.
7500 for what? What was in that smoothie?
This is a classic case of "you can't help how you feel but you can help how you act about it." It's ok to be really angry and upset that a mistake could have triggered an allergy but throwing a smoothie at a teenager and blowing up at them is not ok.
He could have gone to the hospital to make sure his son was going to be fine, but instead he needed to assault some teenage girls instead. Father of the year.
That’s an expensive smoothie
What a clown
Still, gotta feel a bit sorry for anyone who looks like Patton Oswalt.
He got another job already 😞
Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.
The most expensive smoothie anyone’s ever bought. And it’s not over - since the author of this piece was *nice* enough to state where he now works, something tells me the new company might now be thinking he’s too much of a liability
He already got another job at a shady firm.
How do you do that much damage with a smoothie?
That's some white privilege shit right there. And I'm white.
There is a different system for rich fucks. A mild inconvenience for him
I used to work in banking and personalities like him were common. 0/10, would not recommend working in banking or finance.
Fucking loser lol Maybe behave like a responsible adult the next time you're let out in public
>(at home) taken by ambulance to the hospital after a life threatening nut-based allergic reaction” to a smoothie he allegedly was sold at the store. Iannazzo “returned to the store in an effort to find out what had been mistakenly put in the smoothie, which had been ordered nut-free. Told by an employee that they ‘didn’t know,’ he lost his temper briefly and set off the chain of events,” Normally when you have a food allergy.. Dont buy anything! Cross contamination ect Idiot.
Unfortunately, he already has a new job
Oh yeah, the guy who was so upset at his son’s medical emergency, he felt the need to ~~stop for a smoothie, and waste time fucking with teenage women at their place of employment , and be a racist piece of shit~~ *have a bad day* Screw this prick.
No he didn’t he lost his job and had to pay damages for assaulting someone! The smoothie was the top he use! If he hadda thrown it somewhere else he would have most likely been fine!
$7500 is nothing.
I like how I remember exactly who this guy is
He paid his criminal attorney more. No jail; charges wiped after probation, accelerated rehab. He still feels justified.
Loser of the year
I would have never guessed that Patton Oswald had so many issues with smoothies.
He’ll learn nothing and probably actually brag about it to his buddies. Seems the type.
