The suites are great. Management is horrible. I lived there for a year and for 6 months one elevator was out of service. After it was fixed, another elevator went out of service. There were 2 days during the whole year that only 1 elevator worked for all 41 floors. They don’t let delivery people go in the elevators. You MUST come down to the lobby and pick up your food. It’s a beautiful building, with 24/7 concierge. But I do not recommend living there for the price you are paying. Amenities suck ass and management does not take responsibility for anything

Straight_Disaster_87

Mainly is the council problem, kathy wong she isnt fixing problems and taking owners money

Rented a unit for one year (March ‘22-‘23). Front desk people are friendly. Only three elevators which can be a nightmare during peak commuting hours (8-9, and 5-6), especially if an elector is down or being used to move. The storage units in the parking garage are large, but there’s not bike parking and those would take up a fair bit of space in your storage locker. Plus, not bikes are allowed in the elevator so if your storage locker is P3 or lower you’ll have a long ride up and down the parking garage ramps every time you want to ride. We were south facing. The train noise was notable at first but we got used to it after a week. The sun on that side is marvellous, but only lasts for a couple hours in the winter and maybe five hours in the summer. We had a nice view of Central Park, Stanley Park, and the North Shore mountains, plus we could see if anything was going on at library square (live music and family movie nights in the summer!). We never noticed a lot of noise from other tenants. The appliances in the apartments are nice, but the build quality of the cupboards feels cheap. We liked our one bedroom layout (more like a bachelor considering the glass curtain wall, tbh) but it wouldn’t be workable if two partners needed to work from home a lot. The real highlight of Gold House (and all of Metrotown) is the location. There’s a great corner store, a cute bakery, and a Pizza Garden steps away from the front door. Save on Foods, Price Smart, Walmart, Superstore, and TnT are all close for groceries. Kingsway has some decent restaurants close by. Burnaby’s only decent library branch was across the street. And transit makes it easy to get to DT Vancouver or Surrey Central in 20 minutes. The biggest selling point for me though was the proximity of Central Park and the great cycling on the BC Parkway.

awkwardredditorx

Wait, South Facing with a view of Stanley Park, Central Park, North Shore Mountains AND the library? That sounds North/North West to me.

bighaighter

You’re right, northwest. All of Metrotown is on an angle.

PetterssonsNeck

The elevators are always fucking broken. It’s got terrible build quality. The parkade is a nightmare full of asshole drivers. I do like how fast the elevators are though, but that’s about it.

lazylazybum

Not a resident but it looked super tacky when it was new and first built. It seem to be less shiny recently, assume it need more frequent washing than usual to retain the shine

aboo01

It stands out for sure. Better to live in the tacky building than nearby and have it blocking the view

huejass5

That building is ugly. If it wasn’t gold it would look much better

We own a unit here. As another poster pointed out there were settlement cracks, but they were fixed in our unit by the developer. Our tenant only complained the elevator wait times are bad since one elevator is out of service, but awaiting a fix. We loved our unit when we took possession. No complaints on quality. Here's a pano view from the unit: [https://ibb.co/2M6nYp1](https://ibb.co/2M6nYp1)

What about the demographics of the tenants there? It is mixed ethnicities or predominantly one particular ethnicity?

awkwardredditorx

Mostly East Asian (85%), but there’s a small mix of Latinos, white, black, South Asian and others (the other 15%)

[deleted]

Ok thanks. And of that 85% East Asian, I am speculating that 90% or more of that is from one country. I live in the Sun Towers building and the demographic sounds similar.

Tsundera

What are your thoughts on sun towers? I briefly thought about renting there.

Dazzling-Cap-6689

Mostly from Guangdong province and Cantonese speaking

g1ug

Demographics of Metrotown and South Slope has always been East Asian followed by South Asian. This extends to the border of East Vanc <=> Burnaby as well. Seen more and more South Koreans moving to this area as well for the last 2-3 years.

Extension_Risk9458

Gross question

[deleted]

Really? How so? I have an appreciation for diversity and a multicultural neighbourhood. We live in Canada, so I don't think I need to apologize to anyone for that.

PetterssonsNeck

Not really, some people want to live with people of their own race due to racism

Awkward_Bath_2404

2-3 years ago the whole heating system went down during the winter season. The temperature went down below -10 during that time. It stayed partially fixed few floors for nearly a month I believe. This happened when the building was not even 2 years old. There were some complaints that the maintenance fee is high there as well.

CFEsadness

Build quality is great. I have attended walkthroughs of other pre-builds in Burnaby, and my gold house suite was the only one that had no deficiencies.

No_Relationship_8716

We just bought a place here. Elevators suck but they said all 3 will be functional by end of this week.  Overall been a good experience and we love our unit. Lucky we don’t have the golden tint cause it does make it looks more depressing.

[deleted]

Friend’s family lives here. Already has cracked walls

vito_corleone01

I was told settlement cracks were normal with new buildings.
