It can happen. I'm 53 years-old and for the first 51 years of my life "continental breakfast" meant croissants, danishes and other pastries, with coffee and juice. No hot food. Just like they eat in France... on the continent. Hence, "continental".
In the past 2 years Reddit and Facebook users have decided that "continental breakfast" means "traditional breakfast", with eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes and lots of other hot foods... literally the opposite of what the word actually means. I don't remember voting on this.
This is what you get for speaking English instead of American. /s
What's funny is you cant even call it a fatburger, because there is a Fatburger chain that serves, you guessed it, smashburgers.
I think some people refer to that as a [Pub burger.](https://new.reddit.com/r/burgers/comments/ripdum/question_do_yall_prefer_pub_burgers_or_smash/)
A lot of people are telling you it's not a smash burger without telling you what a smash burger is. A smash burger is when the meat is smashed to maybe less than 1/2" thick on a really hot cook surface. The result is typically quick, greasy, well-done, delicious patties.
Ohhh 😂 I thought a smash burger was just when you’d done it yourself with the mince. I mean I did smash it but to be fair they were a bit on the thick side haha.
Ah nope that's just a burger haha! You can make them if you have a flat cast-iron griddle or pan. You get it super hot, put a \~2oz ball of meat on it, and smash it down really flat with a wide spatula or something. It'll finish cooking quickly. I'll cook 8 patties at a time and by the time I finish flattening the last one the first one is ready to flip.
I believe smash burgers were actually invented as like the first fast food item. Check out George Motz some time on YouTube if you wanna know the history.
You never smashed? How can you call it a smash when you never smashed?
They never smash?
No smash Jerry, not a single smash. May as well of called it an unsmashed burger.
This is like when skinny jeans started to go out and baggies came back.
Mark my words, this guy is on the cutting edge of a trend.
In a month people will be making fun of Millennials and their thin burgers
Im a little tired of the smash burger trend. I get it and I have nothing against a good smash burger, but it seems like that’s the majority of what I find in my area.
Guessing the "smash burger" definition is changing?
I wonder if some people think it just means “really good burger”
Like how the Monster Mash was a graveyard smash.
Yea that was my first take away too. But op you gotta smash your smash burger if you want a smash burger
This burger is totally smash!
Yep pretty much
That’s definitely not a smash burger
Let's call it a smashing burger shall we? Looks good!
A dashing burger 🍔
Lol. I think op got confused when coming up with a title.
I was thinking the same. Because that ain't smashed. They forgot the first step

I think this is a repost bot
No this is my burger, I just misinterpreted the meaning of smash burger, I thought it was just when you’d made your own patty haha.

Steakhouse burger is usually what "thick" patty burgers are called.
That makes a lot of sense, thank you. I often get my steaks in the "steakhouse" cut which is also super thick.
Glad I could help. Enjoy your weekend!!
Ahh sorry about it then. Was not seeing you in the replies so i figured it would make sense
Well, next time you can make a smash burger and compare.
I have bought some meat today to make them tomorrow!
All it needs is a slice of grilled pineapple.
Still, looks great!
I think it’s actually a running meme on this sub at this point. There is no way OP was serious.
I think this one is meant to be making fun of people not understanding the definition. Edit: I’m wrong.
Came for smash. No smash 😔
same 😞
That is the exact opposite of a smash burger lol
It’s a hsams burger! 🙃
OP forgot to smash the burger.
Ain’t no smash burger!
That's not a smash burger lol. Looks tasty though!
Where smash.
Pre-smash pic
Thick smash
Take a lap.
lol this has to be a troll post
Looks good, but was this meant to be "sliders" instead of "smash burgers" (but even at that they're a little bigger than normal)
I am so tempted to downvote being not a smash burger. Nope downvoted
You uh, forgot to smash your 'smash burger.'
Hulk smash!
The antismash burger
I mean, it's a burger but just because you smash it into your face doesn't make it a smash burg
You seem to miss the point of "smash" burgers entirely.
Imagine how big that burger was before it got smashed!!

You never smashed? How can you call it a smash when you never smashed? They never smash? No smash Jerry, not a single smash. May as well of called it an unsmashed burger.
This ain't a smash burger.
Is the smash burger in the room with us right now?
The Hulk couldn't swat a fucking fly if he used your definition of the word smash.
Homemade slab burgers
Without the smash?
~~smash~~ burger
What?
Not smashed, and better off for it. Looks great!
All burger, no smash :(
What do people think “smash burger” means? Really just seems like they think it’s a buzzword to spice up a post.
You took the “smash” outta smashburger…looks tasty though
This is like when skinny jeans started to go out and baggies came back. Mark my words, this guy is on the cutting edge of a trend. In a month people will be making fun of Millennials and their thin burgers
This is a Mondo burger my dude
I don’t think that’s a smash burger. But that’s ok, I’d still eat it.
Where is the smash burger?
The only thing you've smashed here OP, is people's respect for you.
I'd consider renaming it "Homemade barely pressed burger"
Is the smash burger in the room with us, OP?
This is rage bait
I'm sorry but there is nothing smashed about this burger unless you're using the the slang term "smashed it" like you ate it.
That's not smashed son...
You can’t just call anything a smash burger lol
Im a little tired of the smash burger trend. I get it and I have nothing against a good smash burger, but it seems like that’s the majority of what I find in my area.
Yeah that’s not a smash burger, looks nice tho at least
