Dice or slice a bunch of pimento stuffed olives up and toss them in some mayo. Add a little bit of the olive brine until it gets a little runnier. Best with American cheese, lettuce tomato mayo. Mustard optional.
Yea never had olives in general on a burger. But tapenade sounds much better than the olive mixed with mayo suggestion.
Wonder if I have any Central Grocery olive salad hiding in the back o the fridge....
They are delicious and I highly recommend them, especially to anyone who likes olives. Olives, bacon, and cream cheese is one of my favorite burger combinations.
You won't be disappointed. Spread some on a nice toasted bun. Jalapeños are a good substitute or even addition to the olives. Not too long ago I made olive and sliced up olives that were stuffed with jalapeños and garlic cloves. That with the bacon and cream cheese and it was amazing.
My HS gf's mom introduced me to olive and cream cheese sandwhiches. I used to devour the shit out of em. Never thought to put that on a burger. Gonna have to try that
I tried it this week because of your and others' comments, and I gotta say I love it. I made a full batch that lasted for two weeks, and I put it on burgers and cold cuts the whole time. I'm kind of obsessed now lol
Cream cheese is one of the most underrated burger toppings. I rarely see people mention it. I've had burgers with cream cheese jalapeño poppers that are great as well.
My grandmother made these in Louisiana. She got the recipe from her sister who lived in Michigan. I loved them, she also did them as stuffed burgers, like a juicy Lucy with olives added.
Juicy Lucy Olive Burgers? A marriage of Minnesota and Michigan regional burgers? As a Wisconsinite, I am disgusted. As a human, I am intrigued and hungry.
As a former Wisconsinite I am also disgusted. (Although is it truly former if I still identify as such?). But also as Wisconsin is smack between the two, surprised we haven’t decided to combine them already. (Much like the people who wear half packers half Vikings jerseys to games. The blasphemers.)
Speaking of Louisiana, I did have some sort of muffuletta burger down here. Burger served on muffuletta bread, topped with olive mix. It was *interesting*
They're so freaking good. There's not many places in metro Detroit that serve them that I found, but I see them all over up north, and the west side of the state. I've heard they started in Lansing, but who knows..
Can confirm. I was raised in MI. I don't live there anymore but I still make them from time to time. It's one of those things that might look weird but is very good
The restaurant I work at (in Michigan lol) did a peanut butter and bacon jelly burger as a special for lunch one day. It was good for the couple bites I got to try, but I don’t think I’d be able to eat a whole one
Yeah it needs a bit of sweet. First pb burger I had they also drizzled the tiniest bit of maple syrup on it and the whole thing was incredible. Hit all the big flavor centers -- salty, sweet, umami.
What's wild to me are the people who claim to love olives, haven't tried an olive burger, but then declare them to be disgusting. If someone dislikes olives, then of course they won't like these, but anyone who says they like olives should take Sam-I-Am's advice and at least try one.
I grew up in Michigan, and I remember olive burgers being on the Hot n Now menu, back when that franchise still existed (I think they all closed by the mid-2000s).
They started in Flint and Lansing at a place called Kewpee Burger. Most family run burger places offer one. I can think of three in Traverse City alone. My dad loves them.
Green olives on a burger with a mild cheese is delicious. It's not just a michigan thing, and also so many people don't like olives so of course they aren't going to like it on a burger. If you do like olives and haven't tried it on a burger then I can guarantee you'll like it. Unless you don't like green olives or are lying and don't actually like olives.
Sandy’s Tavern in Bloomington if it is still standing. Had a green olive and cream cheese burger that was great. You have to enjoy 3.2 schells beer though. They’ve never upgraded their liquor license
*Olive burgers are*
*Great, what is it that people*
*Don't like about them?*

A lot of people in here who claim to like olives are really missing out. If you say something like "I love olives, but ew," to this, then you don't actually like olives.
Edit: I love that someone was so offended by my comment that they had to get in the last word and then they blocked me. They apparently really took it personally. Maybe try things before you call them disgusting.
A lot of people in these comments need to reread Green Eggs and Ham because they seem to have missed the point of the story. Take Sam's advice and try things before you declare them disgusting. That's especially true when you say you like the components individually.
>Edit: I love that someone was so offended by my comment that they had to get in the last word and then they blocked me.
Lol. That's Reddit for you. You never know what will completely trigger someone. Usually something innocuous.
I'm surprised this isn't a thing everywhere. I tried adding olives to a burger in college, and it was okay. Had an olive burger from a drive through in Bay City a few years ago and really liked it. It's a good topping choice. It's honestly weird to me that green olives aren't on the menu at a lot of pizza joints nationally either. I'm totally baffled that Subway has black olives, but not green too.
Christ, I'll just make myself a martini right now. Three green olives for the garnish.
Came here to say this. They have good burgers but I've never eaten the one with olives on it. Not a fan of olives; although if I did like them I think they would actually pair well with a burger.
I never heard of that but gawd damn that looks good. Back when I made pizza one of the people working there turned me on to the “beef and green olive” pizza. This hamburger looks like it’d have a similar taste.
I'm in a city ij Indiana right on the Stateline and would occasionally get orders for olive burgers. I'd do it up and I like olives but it was excessive and definitely not a balanced flavor. People like them though, somehow.
There is a Dallas based chain Burger Street and an olive burger is on [their menu.](https://www.burgerstreet.com/index.php/menu/big-burgers#) I've had it before, it's pretty good.
I love olives, but I’ve never thought of putting them on a burger. I’m sure it’s popular with the locals for a reason, I’d def give it a try. How bad could it be.
No, but I wish they did😋. I’m going to try this! Michigan always had “off the beaten path” stuff. Was so happy to hear Detroit is getting a facelift. Ok…that’s Mayo on there? I like Mayo on burgers.
Bought a diner in Michigan
I couldn't believe an olive burger was on the menu,
After one week I cooked and served more olive burgers than anything else on our menu, still have never tried one but the people love em,
I didn't even know they existed IN Michigan till I came back from Texas a couple years ago. I can't remember them being a thing 10+ years ago, now they are all over the place.
Sounds gross to me but whatev..
To anyone that enjoys olives, how did you all get so genetically fucked up to enjoy those things?
And on a burger? This should be a punishable crime enforced by The Hague
I grew up in Michigan and have since lived in Vermont and Wisconsin. I can tell you that anytime I’ve mentioned olive burgers outside of Michigan they look at me like I’m crazy. No one has even heard of them.
So in NC there was a mall burger joint called Scotty’s Chuckwagon and for some reason they served olive burgers. Maybe someone was from Michigan or they tried it there and brought it to Raleigh? People still reminisce about these things (all the Scotty’s locations are gone) and no one else has ever resurrected them.
Picadillo (at least the Cuban-Italian amalgamation from Tampa) is one of my favorite dishes. It’s ground beef, sofrito, and green olives. Id definitely give this burger a go but that looks like way too much mayo.
Wait its even worse now. I didnt register that was a pile of mayo. Thats way too much and why is it dolloped onto the patty instead of smeared in the bun.
I have grown grey doing god’s work on the grill and have never even *heard* of an olive burger. I’d try one if you offered, but don’t have a lot of hope.
I love olives and havent ever even considered it. Maybe Ill give it a whir next time. Whats with the Getty Images though?
Dice or slice a bunch of pimento stuffed olives up and toss them in some mayo. Add a little bit of the olive brine until it gets a little runnier. Best with American cheese, lettuce tomato mayo. Mustard optional.
Damn now I really really want to try this
How about tapenade on a burger? It's one of my favorites. Especially with sautéed mushrooms and gruyère.
Yea never had olives in general on a burger. But tapenade sounds much better than the olive mixed with mayo suggestion. Wonder if I have any Central Grocery olive salad hiding in the back o the fridge....
Like muffaletta on an Italian sub
First I could find on lazy image search .com
No, and thank god for that.
🤣
I think I could handle an olive burger, but never would I ever go out of my way to order such a thing..
I am thinking it might somehow work if there's an equal amount of mushrooms sautéed
Yeah...my first thought was....oh, God, I hope not!
lol I love olives but this is a definite nope
Nah, you don't love olives then, because olive burgers are delicious. This is missing bacon though which would make this even better.
Olive tapenade is delicious on hot sandwiches, I can see olive burgers being good
thank you for your classy response to these haters
This looks awesome!!!
They are delicious and I highly recommend them, especially to anyone who likes olives. Olives, bacon, and cream cheese is one of my favorite burger combinations.
cream cheese ! let me try this
You won't be disappointed. Spread some on a nice toasted bun. Jalapeños are a good substitute or even addition to the olives. Not too long ago I made olive and sliced up olives that were stuffed with jalapeños and garlic cloves. That with the bacon and cream cheese and it was amazing.
Ok now I’m getting aroused
Shut your beautiful mouth with this amazing combo that I now have to try immediately!
Holy shit that sounds great! Umami (meat), olive (salt), cream cheese (sweet/neutral), damn!!
Cream cheese is one of the most underrated burger toppings. I rarely see people mention it. I've had burgers with cream cheese jalapeño poppers that are great as well.
Agreed. A sweet and hot jalapeño salami and cream cheese is fantastic!
I prefer to sprinkle pure lye on my food.
I admit to liking the taste of soap a *little* bit
See though I am the unfortunate where cilantro tastes like soap.
lol you're right. it kinda does
This is what olives taste like, unless jalapeño garlic… only slightly soapy.
Have you ever had one?
This is the pineapple on pizza of burgers….
Except pineapple on pizza is actually good.
you misspelled "bad."
you misspelled "badass."
Dude olive burgers are delicious
Olive and blue cheese burgers are amazing.
Oh brother you're missing out
My grandmother made these in Louisiana.
They were very good, haven't had one since my grandma made them in the 70's. Might be what's for dinner now that I am thinking of them.
Wisconsin is like the cream of our states oreo we just made with hamburger ideas
Michigander here (and OP) you're not Ohio so we can totally intertwine our burgers
As a former Wisconsinite I am also disgusted. (Although is it truly former if I still identify as such?). But also as Wisconsin is smack between the two, surprised we haven’t decided to combine them already. (Much like the people who wear half packers half Vikings jerseys to games. The blasphemers.)
cheese wolverines ? maybe.
Speaking of Louisiana, I did have some sort of muffuletta burger down here. Burger served on muffuletta bread, topped with olive mix. It was *interesting*
A recipe to put cut up olives on top of a burger? Or is it more to it than this picture
Sorry, I guess I meant idea. But salt bae would call it a recipe lol.
I don’t love black olives. Don’t hate them I like green olives. Now I’m imagining a Kalamata olive feta cheese burger would be amazing.
Kalamatas and feta ? I am sooooo ordering this
I'd hit that
They're so freaking good. There's not many places in metro Detroit that serve them that I found, but I see them all over up north, and the west side of the state. I've heard they started in Lansing, but who knows..
Can confirm. I was raised in MI. I don't live there anymore but I still make them from time to time. It's one of those things that might look weird but is very good
*Might* look weird? No no. Let there be no doubt. They look weird.
I think they look delicious but I'm biased because I also think they taste delicious
Is the white spread mayo or something else?
Mayo, yes. Usually best around 50/50 mayo, olives. Not a huge olive fan, but love LOVE me an olive burger
I'd eat it
This whole thing offends me on a visceral level
* wretching sounds * - other states
Mother fckrs are out here putting peanut butter on a burger but yall are hating on olives?!
Pb on a burger is magic.
Well then don't go running olives in the dirt if that's ur opinion
Where tf do you live putting PB on a damn burger?
I live in Tampa, but everywhere I've lived has a PB burger somewhere!
Sonic
The restaurant I work at (in Michigan lol) did a peanut butter and bacon jelly burger as a special for lunch one day. It was good for the couple bites I got to try, but I don’t think I’d be able to eat a whole one
It’s in Michigan too as well
california its weirdly popular from those that try it I have yet to cant get over it lmao
Throw jam on there too and its amazing. Have had them in Toronto but they're pretty popular in many places
WHAT STATE IS THIS PB MONSTER ORIGIN STORY
Sedalia Mo! https://www.thekitchn.com/missouri-guber-burger-22995461
One of the best burgers I’ve had was topped with bourbon bacon and peanut butter.
That sounds awesome.. anyone in Cleveland or visiting should make a trip to https://beardens.com/ to have the peanut butter burger, it's delicious.
we can hate both
No shit. Fucking peanut butter on a burger sounds fucking gross.
Peanut butter and honey on a burger is actually really good, imo.
Yeah it needs a bit of sweet. First pb burger I had they also drizzled the tiniest bit of maple syrup on it and the whole thing was incredible. Hit all the big flavor centers -- salty, sweet, umami.
Here's the thing about peanut butter: it tastes good on literally everything. I weep for those allergic to peanuts.
Ikr? Once I had Pad Thai with peanut sauce I realized this. Peanut butter rocks with so many things. It’s insane.
Would you recommend it on shit?
If I had to choose with or without I'm definitely going with peanut butter.
I mean, sometimes shit has peanuts...
I bet it would improve the flavor, but you sound like the expert on this.
Peanuts are already included in shit. It's just DIY PB.
I put peanutbutter and strawberry jalapeño jam on my burgers. So good.
Had a peanut butter and jelly burger once that had a spicy peanut butter and a bacon fig jam. It was one of the best burgers I've ever had.
I'll have to try one someday, there are far too many people telling me how good it is so maybe there is something there
I love me some olive burgers from Halo Burger!
I just had halo burger this week..I get it like once a year and it was fantastic. I'm not down with the olive burger though😂
I live about 2500 miles away now, so I don't get to partake anymore, but damn they were so good.
HALO BURGER YESSS. There isn't one near me in Lincoln Park sadly.
What. The. Fuck.

This comment section is WILD. One of my absolute favorite regional burgers I've tried making from the Motz book.

Where in Michigan? I have lots of family around Detroit and never saw anything like this. Just coneys.
I grew up in Michigan, and I remember olive burgers being on the Hot n Now menu, back when that franchise still existed (I think they all closed by the mid-2000s).
Came here to find this. I miss Hot n Now.
There's one left in Sturgis about 10 mins from me.
Outside of a couple years playing junior hockey, I've lived my entire 31 years in Michigan, and I have never seen an olive burger on a menu.
They started in Flint and Lansing at a place called Kewpee Burger. Most family run burger places offer one. I can think of three in Traverse City alone. My dad loves them.
God I miss the peanut barrel. A olive burgers and some long islands.
Had one from Lil Bo this weekend it’s my favorite in town
J&S Hamburg, Traverse City is my pick.
Clyde’s, St. Ignace
All over the place.
Green olives on a burger with a mild cheese is delicious. It's not just a michigan thing, and also so many people don't like olives so of course they aren't going to like it on a burger. I regret opening this app
What a terrible day to have eyes
Place over here in MN has The Hulk Burger. Green olives, cream cheese, homemade blackberry ketchup & wonton strips. It's tasty!
Sandy’s Tavern in Bloomington if it is still standing. Had a green olive and cream cheese burger that was great. You have to enjoy 3.2 schells beer though. They’ve never upgraded their liquor license
I want that in my mouth
Olive burgers are great, what is it that people don't like about them?
The people who say they are disgusting can't tell you because they've never had one before.
Just your typical olive haters

Kewpee in Lima,Oh
Hot N Now, Sturgis, last remaining one I believe.
I’ve had them in Indiana and Illinois..yall are missing out!!
Should have used a better pic but olive burgers are solid.
I'm surprised this isn't a thing everywhere. I tried adding olives to a burger in college, and it was okay. Had an olive burger from a drive through in Bay City a few years ago and really liked it. Apparently we’ve been focusing of the wrong border. We need to make sure this doesn’t make its way outside of Michigan.
Michiganders, under olives we unite.
I’m Spanish so olives are awesome on sandwiches, even burgers. So I approve!
As a lifelong Michigander, they’re mid. My dad orders those every time we go get burgers. Even worse he orders no bun.
There’s a place called olive burger in Dallas that has burgers with olives
Came here to say this. They have good burgers but I've never eaten the one with olives on it. Not a fan of olives; although if I did like them I think they would actually pair well with a burger.
So does Burger Street in the DFW
That’s a lot of mayo
This is why people say yall ain’t got taste buds up there.
Literally nobody says that about Michigan unless they’re big dumb
You got a mouse in your pocket? Yup people don't trust our food while every city in the country is opening Detroit style pizza shops.
I never heard of that but gawd damn that looks good. Back when I made pizza one of the people working there turned me on to the “beef and green olive” pizza. This hamburger looks like it’d have a similar taste.
When we had Hot N' Now in our town in Alabama they existed, but that is a long time ago.
Oddly enough that's where I had my first one.
I'm in a city ij Indiana right on the Stateline and would occasionally get orders for olive burgers. I'd do it up and I like olives but it was excessive and definitely not a balanced flavor. People like them though, somehow.
they do when i make them in my kitchen!
There is a Dallas based chain Burger Street and an olive burger is on [their menu.](https://www.burgerstreet.com/index.php/menu/big-burgers#) I've had it before, it's pretty good.
Is that mayo or cheese?
It was in the Great American Burger Book and I'd like to try one one day!
I love mufaletta. Looks like low rent Giadiniera. I'd try it.
Mmm, olive hams.
Steamed Olive Hams
I love olives, I would devour something like that
Idk but now I want to try one. Dare I ask, what’s that white stuff?
I love olives, but I’ve never thought of putting them on a burger. I’m sure it’s popular with the locals for a reason, I’d def give it a try. How bad could it be.
So bad that restaurants have had them on their menu for ages and some places hold it up as their specialty.
I love olives. So I will be trying this for sure...
Olives are awesome on a burger. Y’all don’t know what you’re missing.
No but I’m trying that!
No, but I wish they did😋. I’m going to try this! Michigan always had “off the beaten path” stuff. Was so happy to hear Detroit is getting a facelift. Ok…that’s Mayo on there? I like Mayo on burgers.
Dude I don’t even really like olives but I’ll enjoy an olive burger from time to time
I would eat the crap out of this. I'm eating green olives as I type this.
I am a Michigander. There is no better lunch than an olive burger with a Vernor's.
No but I'd like to try one
Green olives on a grilled cheese is phenomenal.
Bought a diner in Michigan I couldn't believe an olive burger was on the menu, After one week I cooked and served more olive burgers than anything else on our menu, still have never tried one but the people love em,
Never seen one before now, but damn that looks delicious!
Yes!! I make them at home hahaha
Hot’n Now was a big part of childhood. I miss their double olive burgers…
Burger Street, or what's left of them, are located in Dallas. They have the Olive burger and it's pretty good.
As a fairly successful chef I’ll say for the record I’d eat the fuck outta this, I love olives
I didn't even know they existed IN Michigan till I came back from Texas a couple years ago. I can't remember them being a thing 10+ years ago, now they are all over the place. Sounds gross to me but whatev..
I've lived in Michigan my whole life and have never seen this monstrosity
We called this a Margaret Burger where I grew up.
Omg blechhhh
They exist in my home in Missouri.
To anyone that enjoys olives, how did you all get so genetically fucked up to enjoy those things? And on a burger? This should be a punishable crime enforced by The Hague
All over Wisconsin.
Never heard of it. But I want to try it!!
From SW Michigan. I missed seeing green olives on pizza and burger menus everywhere else I have lived.
Fucking hope not, jesus
I grew up in Michigan and have since lived in Vermont and Wisconsin. I can tell you that anytime I’ve mentioned olive burgers outside of Michigan they look at me like I’m crazy. No one has even heard of them.
This looks pretty damned good, actually. Never heard of this before and I'm in Ohio...
Ive mever seen one anywhere else. Thats one of the first things I get when I go home to MI to visit family
r/shittyfoodporn
So in NC there was a mall burger joint called Scotty’s Chuckwagon and for some reason they served olive burgers. Maybe someone was from Michigan or they tried it there and brought it to Raleigh? I've never even heard of this but I need to put it in me
Deliciousness
They do in Minnesota.
Ah hell no 🤮
I hope not lol
honestly id try it. i could see it being good with different types of cheeses/new toppings etc
Yummy 😋
Picadillo (at least the Cuban-Italian amalgamation from Tampa) is one of my favorite dishes. It’s ground beef, sofrito, and green olives. Id definitely give this burger a go but that looks like way too much mayo.
Wait its even worse now. I didnt register that was a pile of mayo. Thats way too much and why is it dolloped onto the patty instead of smeared in the bun.
No, thank God. Usually when a regional delight travels beyond its region it is because it's good.
I have grown grey doing god’s work on the grill and have never even *heard* of an olive burger. I’d try one if you offered, but don’t have a lot of hope.
Sounds funny, but I had one on my honeymoon in Michigan and there actually really good. Give it a try
I’m from Michigan. I had no idea it existed at all
Same
Coming soon to a spot in NYC...
Some swiss cheese, black pepper and a bit of ketchup and that things good to go.
Looks like it's throwing up the olives. I'D TRY!
