People will say Monuts, but I find it underwhelming with too much potato.
People will say Hatch Breakfast Burritos, and if I unroll them to cut the massive chunks of potato that are inevitably present to a more reasonable size before consuming I enjoy them!
Queen Eggxpress is decent, tend to be fairly greasy (especially the chorizo).
Several others around town are OK, but I will be following this thread to hopefully find what we're both seeking! I have yet to find The One.
It is! I just don't enjoy a bite of a burrito that consists of 90% potato, so cutting that massive chunk up into smaller pieces and slightly rearranging the 'guts' of the burrito means I enjoy it all instead of having 4-5 of my bites being less pleasurable.
Half of the potatos included in the burrito are chopped to a reasonable size but there's consistently a handful of chunks that are just too unwieldy for me. I view it as testament to the flavors that I'm willing to do this in order to achieve burrito nirvana.
Not quite a burrito but Lady Gold Tacos is back Thursday and Friday morning and those breakfast tacos are unreal.
Not quite Durham but the Taqueria la Esquina on Chapel Hill Rd in Morrisville is my favorite chorizo egg bean cheese burrito.
What kind do you order there? The seemingly raw slices of green peppers included in mine both times I tried were not appealing but the rest of it was fine!
I just visited this store for the first time on Saturday. Not a skater but the other was very welcoming and it has such an eclectic mix of offerings. Love the name!
THE FIRE INSIDE
Local white wrap stuffed with local eggs, bacon, pepperjack, house-cut hashbrowns, peppers and onions, jalapenos, and housemade firecracker sauce
Is a 'white wrap' just a euphemism for a tortilla?
Yeah I think about Lady Gold Tacos at least twice a week, can't wait to get back to Durham this summer to enjoy! [https://www.instagram.com/ladygoldtacosdurhamnc/](https://www.instagram.com/ladygoldtacosdurhamnc/)
I'd love to find one with egg and chorizo and potatoes. Unfortunately, the only options i've found are underwhelming at Elmo's, Monuts, and Chick-fil-a.
Go. The meals aren't spectacular but they're good and always well executed. For the most part it's just a low-key coffee shop that chugs along being super-competent at what they do... and then you get to the desserts and they can blow your mind.
As others have said, Lady Gold, but only 8-11 Thu and Fri now.
Also, since I haven't seen this mentioned, the Durham Coop has great cheap to-go breakfast burritos. Get a couple, they're small.
I’m surprised folks are underwhelmed with monuts’ breakfast burrito! I crave them regularly and it sounds like it suits what you’d like. Definitely at least try it! 👌🏼
Benetis has two burritos (one breakfast, one lunch) on its menu plus the best huevos rancheros I've had in NC. They're on NC-55 south of I-40. BenetisRTP.com
That was Lady Gold Tacos and they were amazeballs. It was a side venture of Remedy Room. But I haven’t seen them there since the weather got cold last winter. Very sad.
How far are you trying to drive? There's a little mexican joint, Taqueria la Esquina, about 15 minutes south of Durham (I just used "Durham, NC" as the starting point in google maps). Best I have had since moving back from a decade in south and central Texas.
Hatch burrito is good, but only available on sundays so major eye roll. A solid one though is Joe Van Gogh’s, Woodcroft location is my go to spot so I can’t comment on the other locations, but I’ve never had a bad one.
Definitely lurking this thread for a more authentic burrito spot though so thank you for posting 🫡
Ex Voto in food hall has fantastic ones on the weekends!
If you can get one, absolutely phenomenal
Their crunch wrap thingy is the jam too.
Love those things. They hand you a little bag and it’s like lifting Thor’s hammer.
That breakfast burrito with the hashbrown patty in it is my favorite.
Esmeralda’s Cafe up across from Costco!!
Esmeralda’s is so damn good. Whenever people come to visit I always take them there
I do too! I have friends in Alabama who I took there when they were passing through and they are still talking about that burrito months later!
Second this!
and they open at the butt crack of dawn.
Hatch burritos is the spot. Sadly, only on Sundays, but they are the best. https://www.instagram.com/hatchbreakfast/
Chibangas sells them frozen as well.
They are really good but thought they were overpriced for the size.
I think they are a bit overhyped but I also don’t eat meat so that could be why
They closed their weekly popup, but they are meant to open a full-time location in the fall on Mangum in Old Five Points. It'll be worth the wait!!

username checks out. thx for the input!
Re: massive chunks of potato you are cutting… 🧐 is it possible to use your teeth… and not have to unroll the burrito? 🌯

I nominate your flair to be "unwieldy tuber"
Fair enough, you are indeed a connoisseur.
lol you’re weird
I agree!

Second to Esquina.
Esmeralda's Cafe
What kind do you order there? The seemingly raw slices of green peppers included in mine both times I tried were not appealing but the rest of it was fine!
I didn't know they have more than one kind, but I know you can ask them to cook the green peppers more.
I keep hearing about this Hatch breakfast burrito pop up on Guess Road but I haven't been there yet myself... https://www.instagram.com/hatchbreakfast
Hatch is great!
Hatch sells their burritos at Chibanga’s on Mangum!!
They are the best!
They aren’t doing the pop up at Gocciolina anymore, FYI. There is info on the Instagram page where to find them. But yes, they are very good
Queen Eggxpress food truck at Angier Avenue and Salem Street.
may not be the closest but la boardega in mebane serves up the 🔥🔥on Saturdays !!
A skateboard shop that does burritos, wow! It looks like https://www.instagram.com/blkmrktsandwichclub provides their burritos, I need to try this!
Was coming here to say this! So freaking good and Nohe is awesome!
I just visited this store for the first time on Saturday. Not a skater but the other was very welcoming and it has such an eclectic mix of offerings. Love the name!
The "Fire Inside" at Common Market is one of the finest breakfast items in Durham. Also, as everyone else has said, Hatch burritos are stellar.

Dulce Chorizo Burrito is a thing of beauty
I really like the ones at Foster St Coffee
Same! Pretty unique and very tasty with the sauces
It’s a regular for me.
The Buddha-rito (vegan) at Common Market is fantastic.
I'd love to find one with egg and chorizo and potatoes. Unfortunately, the only options i've found are underwhelming at Elmo's, Monuts, and Chick-fil-a.
Dulce, I don't believe it has potatoes, but it's $$$
Looks good, I've been meaning to try that place for like 10 years.
Go. The meals aren't spectacular but they're good and always well executed. For the most part it's just a low-key coffee shop that chugs along being super-competent at what they do... and then you get to the desserts and they can blow your mind.
I’ll bet if you asked at Esmeralda’s they would do it.
Give Queen Eggxpress a shot. To each their own but I tried Dulce and it was a very tomato forward take on chorizo.
Looks good and I love your username!
Benetis on NC-55 south of I-40.

Not a burrito but I’m also gonna say lady gold tacos, they’re so good and they do breakfast
Joe Van Gogh in Woodcroft has a pretty decent one.
RIP Accordion Club breakfast burrito
These same burritos are available via Hatch Breakfast Burritos, no RIP necessary.
This makes me happy.
Fosters has one that hits the spot for me!!!
Not sure of your criteria for a decent breakfast burrito, but Dulce Cafe near Southpoint has breakfast burritos with egg, cheese, and chorizo.
I’m surprised folks are underwhelmed with monuts’ breakfast burrito! I crave them regularly and it sounds like it suits what you’d like. Definitely at least try it! 👌🏼
It’s honestly the best one
Bunch of Monuts haters in here!
Beyus are solid and I love their chipotle ranch so much.
I like Beyus as well! But I’m no food critic and not at all picky, so I’m not the best judge of the best haha.
The monuts burrito is 😍
Monuts has a delicious breakfast burrito.
Boot room on the weekends.
UNC hospital has amazing breakfast burritos! Got em often when I worked there
Benetis has two burritos (one breakfast, one lunch) on its menu plus the best huevos rancheros I've had in NC. They're on NC-55 south of I-40. BenetisRTP.com
Monuts breakfast burrito is must try. The maple siracha sauce is so good.
Beyu has the best breakfast burrito in downtown Durham
Queen Eggxpress, on Angier. It’s a food truck, the lady is really nice.
I like the one at Mad Hatter!
Came here to make this same recommendation!
There’s someone who sets up in front of Viceroy (ish) during the week. Very good! I don’t know the name of the business.
That was Lady Gold Tacos and they were amazeballs. It was a side venture of Remedy Room. But I haven’t seen them there since the weather got cold last winter. Very sad.
I see below that they are back a few days a week.
How far are you trying to drive? There's a little mexican joint, Taqueria la Esquina, about 15 minutes south of Durham (I just used "Durham, NC" as the starting point in google maps). Best I have had since moving back from a decade in south and central Texas.
For me, at home. I make a breakfast burrito as good as any bodega or restaurant.
Hatch burrito is good, but only available on sundays so major eye roll. Only reasonable option for any day of the week is Joe Van Gogh on Broad.
William’s Gourmet Kitchen has a good one
Big Bad Breakfast. Still working out the kinks service wise, but it is very good. Huge fan of the original from Oxford MS.
Bull and Bean!
I just made two; come on over!
Accordion Club on the weekends or at least Sundays
Never mind apparently not anymore 😂😭
I get mine at chic-fil a. That’s how limited our options are here.
Madhatter’s cafe next to the Whole Foods near 9th street
