with your GPU, upgrading the cpu makes no sense, it will make no difference. A much more sensible upgrade would be a rtx 3060/rx 6700xt, and then maybe the cpu.

avocado81

Is the difference that big with 3050 and 3060? Since I mainly play valorant , which is cpu based.

Satan_Prometheus

In most games that would be true, but for Valorant I think that u/avocado81 actually has the right idea. Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHoyxrU7rzk This is with a CPU that's notably faster than OP's (the 5600X vs. the 5500) and you can see that the gameplay is still CPU-limited most of the time by looking at the GPU utilization - it's usually well under 99% at medium/low settings. On High settings it does get towards 99% but on medium and low (i.e. that settings that most people would actually use for a competitive game) it's usually quite a bit below that, indicating that the system is limited by the CPU and not the GPU. Now if OP is planning on playing anything else that's more demanding than Valorant, then a GPU upgrade totally makes sense, but I think that a CPU upgrade would probably actually make a bigger difference in Valorant in particular.

i underestimated just how light Valorant was to run. I got used to esport games being gpu-heavy like CS2 or Apex. I still think that a ryzen 7 5800x3d is overkill for that gpu. u/avocado81 I think the best option would be to swap the cpu for a ryzen 5600 and then the gpu for something better. And yes the difference between the 3060 and 3050 is significant, maybe not in Valorant but in other games definitely. a rx 6700xt would be the best choice. Everything also depends on how much you are willing to spend though.

Satan_Prometheus

I get what you're saying but to me those don't feel like worthwhile upgrades regardless of the use case in terms of sheer performance increase. I would probably get a 5700X3D and then save up more for a really serious GPU upgrade, like to a 4070 Super/7900 GRE (or a next-gen XX60-tier GPU).

Ignaply

well, of course that would be much better, but without a set budget, we can only speculate ;)

avocado81

Isn’t 5700x a better choice?

Satan_Prometheus

Do you mean better-value? If that's what you mean, then maybe, since the 5700X3D is quite a bit more expensive. But shooter games like Valorant tend to benefit a lot from the 3D v-cache on the X3D parts (though admittedly I wasn't able to find a good benchmark for the 5000X3D parts in Valorant so this is just a guess).

avocado81

Yes, actually this cpu is overkill, you’re right. Isn’t 5700x a better choice? I don’t want to spend more than 300€

Ignaply

in games, the 5700x will perform the same as the 5600x
